When Rush Limbaugh is the real RNC chairman…

Right-wing blogger Dan Riehl makes a critical point about the Limbaughs, Hannitys, Malkins and Coulters that the conservative movement ought to ponder deeply:

“For all the benefits the Right realizes from Right-side talkers they are, by and large, entertainers. There are plenty of exceptions more interested in discussion and informing, certainly. But some of the largest also tend to be the most provocative. That shouldn’t be a surprise as with all entertainment today, the most provocative and even outrageous gets the most attention and even the highest ratings.

But that also makes it rather easy for the opposition to paint conservatives as unreasonable, intolerant and, on a few occasions, even hateful. The fact is that is not the case for the overwhelming majority of conservatives and Republicans.”

The modern conservative movement has no real leaders at the moment, and the “right-side talkers” are filling that vacuum — setting the party’s agenda, deciding which political figures will become popular and which will be cast aside, and in effect performing all the functions that those legendary (and pretty smart) guys in smoke-filled rooms used to perform for the party.

But at the end of the day, they are indeed just entertainers, and their primary self-interest is to focus on the issues and controversies that will bind their audience more closely to them for their own financial reward. You see the consequences of that everywhere. U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, for example, was just repeating the garbage he hears on talk radio when he called Barack Obama a Marxist with tendencies toward dictatorship, a statement for which he has now apologized. Talk radio is providing the party’s talking points, rather than vice versa.

Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly et. al don’t really care whether there’s a Republican in the White House; in fact, their ratings go UP when they have a Democratic administration to rail about. They are quite content to fixate on silly little things that don’t resonate at all among the general voting public but that get their own audience all fired up and angry. And again, if that makes their audience seem foolish to the rest of us, they don’t care. They still cash those seven-figure paychecks.

With the exception of Riehl, the conservatives haven’t figured that out yet. They don’t yet realize how often they get played, how often their own best interests and the best interests of their entertainer/leaders diverge.

Until they do….

How does that song go? “True colors come shining through”? Except in this case, the colors are badly tarnished by the right wing bloggers and commentators. The Republicans don’t really understand as yet that the Dems have captured the middle, and perhaps some right of the middle (like former McCain supporters) who can’t stomach the true colors they are seeing in current Republican voices. Let Limbaugh and friends bloviate…it is, as you say, mostly entertainment, although of the basest sort.

O’Reilly is a different breed than Limbaugh and Hannity.

The two most important decisions Bill Buckley ever made were 1) driving out the ‘kooks’ (anti-Semites) from the Conservative movement back in the 50s and 60s, which was arguably what kept the young movement from suffering a fatal and self-inflicted wound over the failure to get segregation and the Civil Rights movement right and 2) the decision to embrace - or at least, not distance itself from- the rising AM radio contingent, led by Limbaugh and Savage, when it starting gaining strength back in the early and mid-90s.

Looked at this way, the acrimonious departure of Chris Buckley this year really is a turning point in the history of the movement, the moment where it has to face up to the pact its made with its devilish evil twins, the rabble-rousers who frankly, owe nothing to the party and therefore operate almost like kings in it. They can veto anything they want — well almost, they couln’t stop McCain’s nomination — but their movement can’t veto them. But maybe that’s about to change.

Corporal Not according to the latest reports. But they are not done or confirmed stories. So until the Obama camp responds to the reports judgment should be withheld.

I am for choice and actually for vouchers but it has been a long practice I disagreed with. If you are a publicly elected official I believe it should be mandated that your child attends public schools. It is a terrible blow of non-confidence for the president to not put their children in public schools. That says to teachers and administrators, that I think we can get it done the right way but you all are still not good enough for my children.

Just had kind of an odd thought.

You all know how the right wing radio folks are making a lot of noise about the threat of a newly reimposed “fairness doctrine?” Even though the left barely ever mentions bringing it back, and even though Obama (as far as I know) ever bothered taking a position on the issue?

Is it possible that righties like Dan Riehl, in the story linked by Mr. Bookman, keep bringing it up because they’d actually like to have the Fairness Doctrine back? Because that might rein in the AM talkers a bit, or at least provide some balance to their shows?

Kind of a “stop me before I kill again” kind of deal?

Ok, it’s not an odd thought, it’s kind of a crazy thought, but I’ve heard crazier.

Huh? I believe I stated Roe vs. Wade could have been overturned when the R’s controlled everything.

Actually, I’ve posted this several times. I’ve also noted a lot of rather stupid remarks in response, such as “Oh but-but-but, we believe the states should control etc. Humbug. To those who respond in such a manner, my question is “Why do you value unborn babies so cheaply?”

My views of abortion are very conservative. As a matter of fact, I know no Democrats or Republicans who believe abortion should be utilized as a method of birth control.

I do; however, believe there are many ways to kill babies in addition to abortion. If a vote was enacted to reverse Roe vs. Wade, I’ve no problems with it. Perhaps then those CONCERNED people could support a health care program, support programs to enhance the economy, shore up social security, and a million other things to help the working poor, children and the elderly of this great nation.

Or the one who asserted “It has not been proven that nicotine is addictive.”

Or this lie - “Most Canadian physicians who are themselves in need of surgery, for example, scurry across the border to get it done right: the American way.”

How about “There are more American Indians alive today than there were when Columbus arrived or at any other time in history. Does this sound like a record of genocide?”

Or maybe “Now I got something for you that’s true—1972, Tufts University, Boston. This is 24 years ago—or 22 years ago. Three year study of 5000 co-eds, and they used a benchmark of a bra size of 34C. They found that the—now wait. It’s true. The larger the bra-size, the smaller the IQ.”

And lest we forget Rush the “compassionate conservative” - “Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat. Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is a White House dog?” And he puts up a picture of Chelsea Clinton. Chelsea Clinton was 13 years old.”

When Saxby Chambliss runs an ad touting Obama as a socialist, as he did recently, it puts the lie that the crazy mean spirited conservatives are just on the radio and tv. There’s at least one in the Senate, and he is appealing to the base to vote against the possibility of having a DEM majority in the Senate, on the basis of Chambliss getting to be the dis-loyal opposition, reading the news into the record, as his filibuster, wasting time while our economy is destroyed. We already saw the confession of Greenspan, that he made a grave error in judgement on the mortgage crisis because he ‘believed in’ an ideology of letting the market work out its problems with no controls. Chambliss is an ideologue, using hate speech to rile up the base. VOTE for Martin and put all Americans back to work. No one wants a handout. The 12% unemployed and underemployed Americans want real jobs. VOTE MARTIN and start the projects we need, bridges, rail, and high tech industry. Be a part of history. Get in line and vote.

Corporal! Hello again. If I may be so bold as to wax esoteric with you…

If, to the One Who Knows You Before You Were Born, even the unconceived has been been identified, wouldn’t any form of birth control be merely pre-emptive abortion?

Have you ever used, or been party to the use of, birth control?

If so, how and where do you draw that line in the sand? If not, how should others?

And if a life is life, sanctified all, how then do we justify ending it at any age, even as collateral war damage?

TIA for your thoughts, respectfully. If you’ve already discussed this topic, feel free to send me downstairs to read up.

Thanks for the well thought out points.

1) Personally I am a purist and believe that life begins at conception and should be protected from that point period*. You know what that means. Prevent the pregnancy but don’t end it.

2) Realistically and politically I will take what ever I can get to save lives (similar to the underground railroad during slavery and those who were able to save a few lives during the holocaust). If the Surpeme Court wants to rule from the time a heart beat can be detected I’m for that. If it’s from the time a brain wave can be detected, I’m for that. Anything is better than what we have now …… abortion on demand as a method of birth control.

3) The arguement that a baby several months developed in the womb is not a human being just because its oxygen comes from the mother instead of its lungs is absurd on its face.

4) The truly sad thing is I have debated many pro-choice people who agree with me on the physiological concepts but still say - so what?

Reihl says that the right-wing yakkers make it “rather easy for the opposition to paint conservatives as unreasonable, intolerant and, on a few occasions, even hateful.” He goes on to say that “that is not the case for the overwhelming majority of conservatives and Republicans.”

But, if you look back at a lot of the rhetoric during McCain’s campaign, you will see that he, Palin and many others jumped on the fear and prejudice bandwagon. Calling Obama a socialist. Saying he “palled around with terrorists.” Saying, as Michelle Bachmann did, that there needs to be an investigation of legislators for “anti-American” activities. Saying, as did Robin Hayes, that liberals don’t believe in God, don’t love America, and don’t work hard or achieve anything. Implying, as did Elizabeth Dole, that her Democratic opponent was Godless and wanted to do away with Christmas. And how many speechifiers at the RNC let the occasion pass without joining Limbaugh and company in railing at the “liberal media”? Not many.

So it’s not just the radio talk show hosts. Until the leaders of the Republican party reject these views instead of pull them out of their bag of tricks, who can blame us for thinking they characterize the party as a whole.

By Greg Mendel

Hannity, Limbaugh & Co. are vital to what remains of the Republican Party. As soon as the weight of Republican dogma, greed and incompetence finally crushed our economic and political system, the wingnut nation was brainwashed into believing the Democrats were responsible for an 8-year Republican frat party that is still going strong.

(For the record, Barack Obama is not currently President. Democrats have a majority in congress, but not control of congress. Republicans are still in charge. Henry Paulsen is the current Republican Secretary of the Treasury, and responsible for fiscal policy.)

And what are Republicans doing? Looting the treasury, as usual. Secretary Paulsen used the same kind of sky-is-falling tactic to steal a $700,000,000,000 (and rising by $billions) handout from taxpayers as Condi Rice used to push the invasion of Iraq.

Americans who don’t regularly wash their brains with winger talk radio are noticing that the Republicans are distributing the massive handout like drunken sailors in bars and bordellos. It’s no surprise every incompetent, mismanaged corporation in America is lining up for a share of the loot.

The High Priests of the Elephant Cult continue to lead the tribe’s faithful in screeching about imaginary socialism. Meanwhile, wingnuts are content to be robbed blind by real capitalists. Hannity and Limbaugh are laughing all the way to the welfare-enriched bank.

Corporal @ 1:12PM. Prior to the 2006 election, the R’s had control of the Housse since 94, the Senate since 2002, and of course after Bush was elected, they also gained the Supreme court. Conservative Republican presidents, such as Mr. Bush, do not appoint liberal judges.

In addition, the R’s had the majority of State Houses, State Senates as well as the majority of governors.

The bottom line is that the Bush administration could have overturned whatever they wished, during that time.

This issue is not a subject that can be used for finger pointing at the Democrats. The little doggie will no longer hunt.

All the columnists/MSM news anchors in the MSM already agree that the, 52/46 split, election signaled a mandate for progressive socialism. Healthcare will become a constitutional right. “Living wage” jobs will be manadated. And the government will become more kinder and gentler. “The majority of conservatives and Republicans are not unreasonable, intolerant or hateful. In fact, moderate Republicans and Democrats, IMHO, have much more in common than most realize.” — Morningstar

Worth repeating.

That’s why I’ve tried to be more careful with my labels (not always succeeding). Republicans in government are officially Republicans. We do have a Republican administration.

I take issue with the extremes of both sides, although they usually use the party labels. For me, extreme right-wingers are “wingnuts” or dead-ender members of the Elephant Cult. Extreme left-wingers are “organic fascists,” and just as ignorant, annoying and fanatic as their right-wing brethren.

Conservatives are actually conservatives, and rare. These days, I’d call them “moderate.” Or maybe “rational.”

The current incarnation of the Republican Party — the Bush/Neocons — are, in my opinion, radical, not conservative at all. As of Nov. 4, they gather in Wal-Mart parking lots to listen to the Gospel of Rush & Sean.

If anyone mentions them they are immediately called “liars.”. Also, NO ONE is allowed to question anything about Obama without being labeled with numerous derogatory remarks. They treat Obama as a benevolet provider for them and he should be held in kingly reverence.

The moderate GOPers are going to have to be the one to row these idiots in. They’ve killed their party, and they are going to have to take some responsibility for that.

The Limbaughs of the world are not Republican, they are dangerous freaks who incite hate - kind of like what we saw at the McCain rallies. McCain had enough sense to put his foot down and stop it - Palin didn’t - shows what kind of person she is - she was energized by the hate.

“Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly et. al don’t really care whether there’s a Republican in the White House; in fact, their ratings go UP when they have a Democratic administration to rail about. They are quite content to fixate on silly little things that don’t resonate at all among the general voting public but that get their own audience all fired up and angry. And again, if that makes their audience seem foolish to the rest of us, they don’t care. They still cash those seven-figure paychecks.”

Such hypocrisy. Bookman is correct of course. However, he utter lack of self-awareness prevents him from seeing that this description could be made of him just by substituting “Democrat” for “Republican” and “six-figure” instead of “seven-figure”.

I mean does Bookman think that his griping about Limbaugh “resonates” with anyone besides his own “fired up and angry” audience.

But at the end of the day, they are indeed just entertainers, and their primary self-interest is to focus on the issues and controversies that will bind their audience more closely to them for their own financial reward. You see the consequences of that everywhere. U.S. Rep. Talk radio is providing the party’s talking points, rather than vice versa.

I started reading before my fourth birthday, and I’ve been reading ever since. I have always gotten the bulk of my news from books and newspapers. I remember reading the newspaper when I was in the second grade during the Cuba missile crisis, looking at the grainy U-2 photos of the Russian launchers, reading the captions and columns and columns of stories and analysis.

My Dad bought three newspapers on Sunday, the Syracuse Post-Standard, the New York Daily News (before Murdoch and the propaganda) and the New York Times. I read from all three of them, all through grade school and high school, spending at least an hour and a half on Sunday with the papers.
When I moved to Atlanta, I was probably one of the last people to subscribe to both the Urinal (Managing Editor Jim Woo-tan Klan) and the Constitution.

So I am a reader. Many of us are.

Many Americans aren’t. Many Americans can’t or find it difficult.

Those folks are prime candidates for hate radio lies and propaganda, and Faux News fantasizing. Lacking an ability for critical analysis and thinking, like baby birds they swallow whatever BS Mama Rush or Hannity-poo spit down their throats.

Since they can’t - or won’t read - their already poorly-functioning minds are warped and stunted even more.

Whenever I see a question about Obama, or see some idiot observation being charged, all I do is check Rush’s site, et. al and BINGO, I see where the filth originated.

Just read this in regards to that elusive birth certificate which proves Obama isn’t native born:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

INTERNET POWERHOUSE ANDY MARTIN ASKS PENNSYLVANIA SUPREME COURT DISCIPLINARY BOARD TO EXAMINE ATTORNEY PHILIP BERG’S PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

(NEW YORK)(November 12, 2008) Andy Martin has asked the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board to investigate the conduct of anti-Obama attorney Philip J. Berg of Lafayette Hill, PA. “There have been a lot of questions, and criticism, swirling around Mr. Berg’s behavior,” Martin stated. “I thought his behavior merited a look by the Disciplinary Board. That way there can be a fair and impartial examination of his claims and actions.”

A copy of Martin’s Statement, which is part of Martin’s form complaint, (faxed to the DB today, November 12th) follows:

November 12, 2008

Philip J. Berg contacted me in mid-August about a complaint he proposed to file in federal court. He sent me the complaint to review, and I advised him the complaint was nonsense. He was suing the wrong parties in the wrong court for the wrong relief. Berg said he wanted to “enjoin the Democratic National Convention,” which caused me to question his sanity. He pleaded that Barack Obama was “born in Kenya” when there is not a shred of credible evidence to support this claim.

He filed his complaint and then began issuing a series of asinine news releases about the progress of his lawsuit.

Berg is playing on the vulnerability of people who intensely dislike President-elect Barack Obama, and using his inflated accusations to solicit money from the public. He constantly exaggerates or misrepresents the facts. In early September persons acting on his behalf claimed there was a “court order” for Obama to produce a birth certificate. No such order existed.

Then he claimed Obama was in “default” and had “admitted” he was born in Kenya. This was compete nonsense. As someone who is a genuine critic of Mr. Obama, I know firsthand what confusion Berg creates with his false and misleading claims. Most recently he or persons acting in concert with him have suggested that the U.S. Supreme Court “ordered” a response to his nonsense. The Court has done nothing of the sort. The court’s rules simply provide a thirty-day period for responses.

I don’t know whether Berg suffers from an emotional disturbance, or is merely a money-grubbing huckster, or what, but Berg’s behavior is undermining public faith in the integrity of the Pennsylvania legal profession.

Berg has been disciplined in the past for misconduct:

who ever made the observation that these morons should be hauled into court to answer these bogus allegations is correct

This is a pretty easy to understand scenario for the dim among us:

Gun enthusiasts nationwide are stocking up on firearms out of fears that the combination of an Obama administration and a Democrat-dominated Congress will result in tough new gun laws.

Last month, as an Obama win looked increasingly inevitable, there were more than 108,000 more background checks for gun purchases than in October 2007, a 15 percent increase. And they were up about 8 percent for the year as of Oct. 26, according to the FBI.

So if people are buying guns because they know that Princess Oblahmi is going to outlaw them, why would they not sell off assets in the stock market when they know Oblahma will be raising capital gains taxes?

Duh.

Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly et. al don’t really care whether there’s a Republican in the White House; in fact, their ratings go UP when they have a Democratic administration to rail about.

Well duy, jay! Did you think we needed to be told that?

With the exception of O’Reilly (who’s made that blatantly obvious of late), I listen to Hannity on occasion and Limbaugh, never.

O’Reilly does reveal things that the MSM choose to ignore. During this campaign season, I’ve had friends tell me they’ve started listening to conservative talk radio and watching Hannity. They’ve never done that before but I’m guessing they plan to continue until next election.

Abomi:

Referencing your contention about the current direction of the stock market….

“The Bush stock market has now lost 2365 points. Unfortunately there is still almost two months left in his term.”

It is equally a fact that over 50% of that drop (almost 1350 points) has occurred since Election Day.

While I would contend that some of the losses would have occurred regardless (in response to the current economic situation), it is equally plausible that some of the losses are occurring in response to investors retracting holdings in preparation for the tax increases threatened by Obama during his campaign. To expect that those with capital holdings would just sit idly by as redistributionists promise to confiscate more of their at-risk investments and earnings is foolish and asinine.

If you threatened to come to my house to rob it starting on January 20th, then I, as a rational individual, would take steps to secure and protect it. Since Obama’s platform was basically as such using the power of governance (instead of a gun or club), those with means are likely reacting as one would expect.

For education purposes, this is why tax increases usually lead to -decreases- in revenue to the Treasury as they stifle economic activity. They make for good political rhetoric playing to class envy and jealousy for the acquisition of power, but are a consistent failure as a governing philosophy spreading misery and dependence to those whom it claims to help.

And as an aside, I do find it funny that the consistent accusation on this thread is that listeners of Limbaugh, Hannity, and some of the other conservative voices are allegedly “mind-numbed robots regurgitating the talking points that they hear daily”. Last I looked, it was not their listeners who were attending mass rallies droning chants of “YES WE CAN” and parroting meaningless slogans like “CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN” with minimal ability (for many of them) to actually vocalize why they supported the candidate. If the ability to give a coherent, logical reason for support of a candidate was required, I contend that the results would have been very different.

JAY BOOKMAN, What is your deal with talk show hosts? Is it because they have a much wider audience than say, the liberal media? IE ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC and CNN? I mean, Rush came in to radio after Reagan got rid of the Fairness Doctrine. He’s an entertainer. That’s what he gets paid for. So what? At least he can actually influence people. What do you do? Rewrite what others have said and try to pass them off as your thoughts. Also, I highly doubt you’d have an audience because you never have an original ideas.

The greatness of people like Rush is that they so get under the skin of the liberals. If you don’t like him or you don’t agree with him, you don’t have to listen to him. It’s not like he’s making policy or anything. I don’t listen to him and it doesn’t seem to affect my life one bit.

JAY, What you don’t seem to realize is that Rush Limbaugh does not sit around thinking about what you say. AJC is losing subscribers like Hitler lost followers after WW2. He doesn’t care what you or Cynthia Tucker think or say about him. You have no audience other than all 20 or 30 of the same half-wit bloggers who agree with you. Limbaugh has over 30 million listeners. Jay I’m sorry but you are nothing more than a Chiuaua nipping at the heels of a giant. Sorry Jay but you lose on this issue. Please try and find something you may be able to win on. Topics like sanitation in Atlanta, Penn State football or maybe public schools vs. private schools. I’m not trying to give you topics but beating up on talk radio is a no win for you. As I remember it, Boortz tore you a new one a few months ago. Care to cry us all a river?

Jay,

For quite some time I’ve noticed that, in your postings, the ratio of your own words to those that you’ve copied and pasted from other journalists has gone way up…in favor of copied work. Seriously, is this all it takes to be an op/ed writer? If so, I’m going to start setting aside 20 minutes every day to start my career in journalism. Please, bring something fresh to the table. There’s only so much gloating over the election, quoting of dubious polls, and fawning over Obama that readers can take. As a centrist, I rarely agree with you, but I used to look forward to reading your columns to get some adrenaline pumping. Recently, though, I’ve been very disappointed. Rock the boat, man! Have a unique thought and present it to the world! Scrutinize everything. Question everything. That is the power of journalism. Otherwise, you’re just a Kool-Aid drinker. In this case, it’s Obama flavored. I know you have a brain in your head. You wouldn’t have gotten where you are if you didn’t. Please, just be a little more objective than subjective. We all know your favorite won, but he isn’t perfect, and if it wasn’t for the mistakes of Bush, he wouldn’t be anywhere near where he is right now.

Obama flavored Kool-Aid because people believe and want a change. Repub 8 years= 2 war fronts, almost 5000 soldiers dead, countless others with mental and physical injuries, Wall street fails and tax payers moneys being used for bailout, citizens gouged on gas prices, citizens being gouged on air line prices, TSA and Homeland Security hardly downsized government, Q Bay Cube biggest crock of the war. And you call these mistakes by Bush.

Found this very morning in the AJC:

“One expert sees a darker motive driving some post-election gun purchasers.”

“Why are white people buying assault weapons?” said Ben Agger, a sociology professor at the University of Texas at Arlington who wrote a book about the Virginia Tech slayings. “I almost hate to say it, but there is a deep-seated fear of the armed black man, because Obama now commands the military and other instruments of the justice system. They are afraid Obama will exact retribution for the very deep-seated legacy of slavery.”

— Chicago Tribune reporter James Kimberly contributed to this report from Chicago.

Apparently our congressman is not the only one that sees an issue with Obama as president…. But will anyone sound bite this writer from Chi-town (O’s home place) and say anything bad about what he said? No of course not!

Why didn’t Paul Broun speak up when Bush started the prpogram?

The “Civilian Response Corps,” as it is called, was launched two years ago by the Bush administration, after a bipartisan vote by Congress and the urging of Republicans including former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

“History shows that ‘civilian national security forces’ bode ill for citizens,” Broun said in the statement.

Aw,

What a bunch of BULL S**!

This is your opinion and your objective to silence talk radio!

Sounds like left wing propaganda talk to me without any facts!

No leaders? What leaders are in the Dem Party, and name one thing that they or the sorry Congress (Dem controlled for the last TWO Years) has done for America!

Nothing!

That is what I thought!

And to you: Citizen of the World

That was not rhetoric about Obama’s associations, (Ayers, Wright, & Farrakhan)it is the truth!

Answer this: How does one stay in a church for TWENTY YEARS and claim to state that he did not know that the Pastor is a Racist, Hate America, and a Blame America numbnut?

Second, the Socialist ideas of Robin Hood (Obama), I’m going to increase the taxes on people making >$200k, and redistribute it to the government dependent welfare people that will continue to vote for me! This No Experience Chicago Thug states that he is going to fix the country, now that is rhetoric!

Finally, it was the Rep Party that was needed to pass the Civil Rights Act back in 1964, not your Dem Party alone. As far as Racist, it was your party that has made comments like “the only Black people in the White House are the wait staff”! Former President Clinton, that just stated this year, that the Obama Campagin “played the race card” on him. Plus, you have Former Klansman, Robert KK Bird in the Dem Party? What about that? Oh yea, the liberal media gave all of these a pass as well! It was the Dem and the liberal media that contiunes to BASH Palin! Talk about being Bias!

My question is: Where is the outrage about that? I agree that there is corruption in both parties, but to point fingers to the Right, Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, these guys as I see it, report the facts and the truth, unlike the AJC, New York Times, and the like.

Therefore, Clean up your own house first!

Enough Said!

“There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all… The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic… There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.” Teddy Roosevelt

Thank you. I am glad someone finally poinited out the facts about the “entertainers”. They exist on both sides of the isle and have the same agenda - making money. It’s too bad so many accept what they say as gospel.

John, It most certainly is OUR business where the Obamas put their daughters in school. We the people pay his salary with our tax dollars. Obama and many politicians are AGAINST school choice. Change we can believe in? Not hardly.

By John

November 13, 2008 9:30 AM | Link to this

CommunistAJC;

We the people pay salaries to thousands of people. I have never heard a requirement for them to send their children to any specific school. I personally know that school choice has existed for at least fifty years. My parents chose to send their eleven children to Catholic schools. I walked by my local public school every day. They got no tax breaks, subsidies, etc for doing so. They still had to pay federal, state, and local taxes. What you so-called school choice people want is a handout from the government to pay for your choice. You can believe that!

By dave

November 13, 2008 9:36 AM | Link to this

John - Obama can choose where he sends his girls, because he’s got the money. Those of us who don’t, don’t have a choice, even though we pay for government schools with our tax dollars. How about Mr. Obama letting us choose on which schools we spend those dollars? John, only a “progressive” could find the logic in your thinking.

By John

November 13, 2008 9:54 AM | Link to this

Dave: My Father was a maintenance worker at the Post Office, my Mother was at home. He still paid taxes to support government schools and chose to spend his money on sending us to private school. To me that sounds like a true conservative.

BTW, the federal government only contributes a small portion of the tax dollars spent on schools. The majority comes from local and state sources. The best thing Obama could do for education is to give them some relief from so many regulations. Other than that, your problem is with your Governor and locally elected officials.

Jay, you could quite easily be talking about yourself instead of the other guys when you said:

They are quite content to fixate on silly little things that don’t resonate at all among the general voting public but that get their own audience all fired up and angry. And again, if that makes their audience seem foolish to the rest of us, they don’t care. They still cash those seven-figure paychecks

I fall out laughing when I hear people call into Rush and Hannity’s shows and say things like…”thank God for you… I get all of my news from you..thank you for teaching us about this political system…” and such. I cannot help but the shake my head in disbelief and disgust.

I always though these two guys were political heavy hitters and had some scholarship on the subjects they so “effectively” discuss - LOL….

Here are excerpts from these guys’ Wikipedia entries!!:

“Hannity graduated in 1980 from St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary high school, located in Uniondale, New York. Described as “an indifferent student”,[4] Hannity dropped out of New York University and Adelphi University for financial reasons. He later decided to pursue a radio career.[3]”….

“Limbaugh graduated from Cape Central High School, in 1969. His father and mother wanted him to attend college, so he enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University. He dropped out after two semesters and one summer; according to his mother, “he flunked everything”, even a modern ballroom dancing class.[4] As she told a reporter in 1992, “He just didn’t seem interested in anything except radio.”[7]”

Limbaugh’s birthdate was ranked as 175 in the Vietnam War draft lottery. No one was drafted above 125. However, he was classified as “1-Y” (later reclassified “4-F”) due to either a football knee injury or a diagnosis of Pilonidal disease.[8][4]”*

Basically, they found a way for him to dodge the draft. These two stooges found a niche and got rich. Well actually Hannity modeled himself after Limbaugh and Rupert Murdoch used his relative youth to take this madness “mainstream”. But that’s why they are so extreme. They are such LOSERS it’s the only way they can eat because they have nothing else to offer the world. Now I understand not all paths are the same and not all people can afford college (I myself took a non-traditional path). But I think the narrative on these guys speaks volumes about them. They never studied abroad, or attended prestigious institutions…or were a part of any political/community organizations or movements, YET……If people in our country would open their eyes, investigate, compare and contrast….peel back the layers on things we’d be in such better shape.

I’d like to see an expose on the education of the rightwing pundits, including Hannity, Limbaugh and Glen Beck. It’s my understanding that these three completed high school, but nothing further in their education. That makes sense, really, since their appeal is to uneducated, working poor whites. As P.J. O’Rourke just called them in his article in the National Review, they are “cracker trash.” Funny he says that about his own readers.

Wasn’t it SNL that “entertained” us with smear attacks on Sarah Palin? Wasn’t it the main media that would never write about Obama’s background? We heard about Mc Cain’s houses but never about Obama’s relatives in poverty? The media was the most unfair and unbalanced ever and it was so easy for Fox and Rush to bring in even more listeners. The truth sells.

According to PEW, Rush Limbaugh’s audience is the 2nd most educated of any media in this country. His family has a history of ambassadors, judges and lawyers. One becomes very smart listening to Rush and there is no turning back as you begin to realize how little the liberal media wants you to know about Democrats.

Rush is no conservative. Actually, Rush is becoming more and more a liberal. Why? Because he drank the Conhspiracy Theory Kool aid:
