‘Two less Obama voters….’

I’m sure the person who posts as “Dagny and John’s Love Child” won’t be bothered if I do this. His comment from the thread below is such a perfect distillation of a certain attitude that it just had to be highlighted where all could admire it.

“One good thing about Jennifer Hudson’s family tragedy - two less Obama voters.”

A 57-year old grandmother is killed in her home, as is her 29-year-old son. A seven-year-old child is missing and there is every reason to fear for his survival as well.

And “Dagny and John’s Love Child” expresses pleasure that two Obama voters are now gone. Presumably, the possibility that seven-year-old Julian King is also dead is also cause for pleasure, because he too might have grown up to be an Obama voter.

I’m thinking Love Child ought to come back on line and apologize, or be banned from this blog. Any comments?

Jay,

Our posters on the right never apologize or admit they are wrong.

Tis a dark place they dwell. One more week until their heads explode and we will see much worse.

They will be the permanent minority forever marganilized as kooks.

yep, you should ban me - we all know that freedom of speech is for the left only - I just enjoy stirring the poo a bit, and getting your goat - and upsetting your golf game enough to have you make this special post just for me - proves that I was able to do so.

Maybe you should ban anyone who is not an Obama supporter now and avoid the rush later…

Apologize for what, stating that even amidst tragedy there can be a little good news? And, the seven year old would be too young to vote for Obama - unless he gets the term limits over turned - or if Acorn can get to him and sign him up, he might be able to vote at 11….

Don’t worry about the ban, I won’t be back

Jay

I think a sincere apology should be in order and if not followed by banishment.

I have long said these blogs are long on personal attacks between bloggers, name calling and vitriolic responses and very short on reasoned debate. I have to watch myself from time to time to keep from being desensitized and drug into it.

A glimmer of hope?

That said the above title forces me now to relate a conversation I had after church this morning.

A friend came up to me and stated he had voted early this week and something interesting happened. I asked what, and he replied that a black lady in front of him kept trying to get the attention of another black lady farther behind him in line. Finally, their eyes met and the first lady silently mouthed the words, “who are you voting for”? The second lady then silently mouthed back “McCain”. The first lady gave her a thumbs up …………

Time will tell …………..

There will be no apology Jay. You may see a few who always try to justify anything, come on here and make comments such as ‘all democrats are baby killers,’ or some other such trash. We see this every day.

The comments are disgusting, but as usual Bookman’s outrage is selective. Liberal hate mongers can say what they want because Jay shares their hate, but don’t be hating on anyone who he doesn’t hate.

Just another example of Bookman’s value system being selective based on the offender’s ideology.

Jay B,

As I’ve mentioned before you bring these things on yourself by making special posts up for bigoted comments from the right. On the other hand your abject hypocrisy gets highlighted every time you do since you practically beg for any hateful comments you can get from the left, especially if it’s about Sarah Palin or her kids.

By Mr Snarky

Those types of comments are indicative of the basic problem with certain people in our society: they don’t view people different from themselves as human beings. It’s not a white or black or rich or poor thing…its just what happens when someone is systematically abused or taught to abuse. They view others as less than human and become less human themselves. I feel sorry for these people. It’s hard to be snarky about such evil.

I am more than disgusted. I disagree with just about every Republican leaning blogger but I do not hate any of them nor wish them ill. The idea of free speech and free thinking is ingrained in our culture and our laws and there will always be some who take things to far. I pray for Ms. Hudson’s family as I pray for the young reporter and her family in Arizona. I wish them all God Speed. Politics aside I pray for Nancy Reagan’s quick recovery. We are all Americans and God’s children so the evil thoughts of a few can not be allowed to rip us apart. I don’t understand a person like that nor how they sleep at night in peace. Anyone of us can be a victim of a senseless crime so weep for them, don’t rejoice. I would give up my very precious right to vote to bring any of them back and take away the nightmares their families are living. Somethings are above politics.

No Corporal, I wouldn’t call you or anyone serving their country in the military a baby killer. When bombs are popping, horrendous damage will occur.

That’s why our defense system (which I believe should be strong and maintained), should be used to DEFEND our country. Those warmongers in charge who misuse their power will, I believe, ‘reap the whirlwind.’

On partial birth abortion, Obama has stated (((on an issue like partial birth abortion, I strongly believe that the state can properly restrict late-term abortions. I have said so repeatedly. All I’ve said is we should have a provision to protect the health of the mother, and bills that came before me didn’t have that))).

I maintain that if the R majority in the supreme court had wanted to overturn Roe vs. Wade anytime since 1973 they could have done so. The Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973, by a 7-2 vote, and 6 of the 7 justices in the majority were republican.

My point is this: This is constantly used as a political tool. Until the last election when the Dems gained a slight control, the R’s controlled everything. It (Roe) could have been reversed at any time. Heck, it still could!!! Note Supreme Court anyone???

So, let’s give up the nonsense such as letting each state have control (you don’t want that) what Margaret Sanger did in the 1800’s etc. etc. Abortion is a political tool, and the R’s will make no changes. It’s the best political tool, perhaps the only one, they have going for them at present.

Not that it’s anyone’s business but mine, but I’ll state it anyway. Personally, I’m in favor of abortion ONLY in the most dire circumstances such as rape, incest, or the mother’s life is at risk.

As repulsive as the comment was, I don’t think you ought to ban him just because he’s an idiot.

I think if someone attacks someone else personally and nastily on the blog, the attacker should be banned for a while — sort of like timeout for my one-year-old. But if your opinions are vile but stated civily then you, Jay, should let it go. Or highlight the idiots comments as a blog post and hold it up to the light of day.

Love Child is very similar to an eight-year-old cussing in school. He knows he’s being inappropriate and doing it just to see if he can get a rise out of other people. He’s an idiot and knows he’s an idiot, but it’s the only way he can get anyone to pay attention to him.

Bookman,

You think we are so “unconscious” that we find acceptable such comments as the one you have chosen to point out? Of course not.It is plainly inhuman and ignorant. But…besides the utter callousness of that comment, it is not far from many others here.

I myself have had my life threatened specifically, a death wish given by a lib. Also cancer. Insults are routine. Although I objected vociferously to a death threat, the comment was never dropped and no one anywhere seemed to notice. (The original comment was made on Wooten’s blog.) As you see, extreme hate has become a habit for some. These SOCIOPATHS DON’T CARE. They are present on both “sides”. Apologies are meaningless.

But be careful how you point out such activity unless you do it for all, not only conservatives but libs also. There’s plenty to point out. You seem to try for some human refinement. But even in that, you are mainly offended by one whose politics are not yours. Broaden your net a bit on the social misfits….

The traditional media are playing a very, very dangerous game — with their readers, with the Constitution and with their own fates.

The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling. And over the last few months I’ve found myself slowly moving from shaking my head at the obvious one-sided reporting, to actually shouting at the screen of my television and my laptop computer.

But worst of all, for the last couple weeks, I’ve begun — for the first time in my adult life — to be embarrassed to admit what I do for a living. A few days ago, when asked by a new acquaintance what I did for a living, I replied that I was “a writer,” because I couldn’t bring myself to admit to a stranger that I’m a journalist.-ABC News

By AJC/DNC Management

October 26, 2008 4:22 PM | Link to this

Yes, the media are liberal. Even so, it is obvious that this election is different. The media are open and brazen in their attempts to influence the outcome of this election. I’ve never seen anything like it. Virtually all evidence of Obama’s past influences and radicalism — from Jeremiah Wright to William Ayers — have been raised by non-traditional news sources. The media’s role has been to ignore it as long as possible, then mention it if they must, and finally dismiss it and those who raise it in the first place. It’s as if the media use the Obama campaign’s talking points — its preposterous assertions that Obama didn’t hear Wright from the pulpit railing about black liberation, whites, Jews, etc., that Obama had no idea Ayers was a domestic terrorist despite their close political, social, and working relationship, etc. — to protect Obama from legitimate and routine scrutiny. And because journalists have also become commentators, it is hard to miss their almost uniform admiration for Obama and excitement about an Obama presidency. So in the tank are the media for Obama that for months we’ve read news stories and opinion pieces insisting that if Obama is not elected president it will be due to white racism. And, of course, while experience is crucial in assessing Sarah Palin’s qualifications for vice president, no such standard is applied to Obama’s qualifications for president. (No longer is it acceptable to minimize the work of a community organizer.) Charles Gibson and Katie Couric sought to humiliate Palin. They would never and have never tried such an approach with Obama.-Mark Levin NRO

You know what an Oblahma loss would do to these people?

The very thought is worth a McCain/ Palin vote all on it’s own.

Yesterday morning, I alluded to this abhorent behavior/speech by some very bitter, very angry old men.

This needlessly bitter left vs. right construct and this ongoing hyper-partisan enmity hurts us all.

I admit that I have, at numerous times, contributed to it. And I regret it.

To some extent or another, we all respond poorly, even hatefully, when we feel we are unjustly attacked. And virtually all of us have done some attacking.

And since it is past time that we all come clean, I want to single out someone who has been IMHO the paragon of someone who has improved his conduct and approach. I believe no one here can touch him in this regard.

Andy.

I’ll say it again.

Andy.

He continues to take a lot of unprovoked personal attacks/punishment and I have a long, but fortunately receding, history of taking it from and giving it to him.

Yes, he is also culpable at times, but given that last year IMHO he was one of the meaner SOBs on these blogs, who initiated more than his share of unprovoked personal attacks, I find it encouraging that now he shrugs off an enormous amount of it.

And I think he is to be commended for it.

I also think much of the schtick, mean spirited and dishonorable as some of it is here, is just that. These words, no matter how foul, only have as much, or little, power as we give them.

Bans in my opinion, though sometimes warranted, are a slippery slope and I am not much of a fan of them. But I also think that as a community WE have the right to define and demand some basic civility and what we will not condone.

To me, the very best part of these “discussions” are the chance to learn, be inspired by or research some new knowledge.

I also believe the vast percentage of us have relatively normal, contented and successful lives. And that everyone here has our strengths and make our contributions, because we care deeply, for our communities, our country and the rule of law.

The person in question, made his own choice this morning. I believe it was the wrong one. The American people are very forgiving of each other.

And a little contrition goes a long way…

We can and must do better.

Well, Jay, this is quite the quandary. Clearly, none of us like what Dagny said. I mean, what was there to like about it unless you proudly sport a pointy white hood or something similar. You called him out on the carpet and gave him an ultimatum — apologize or be banned. He came forth and, in his own way, explained himself. He might even consider it an adequate substitute for an outright apology and I must admit that I have heard worse apologies and maybe even words from others that were just as offensive. Who knows, some may have even been offended by one or two of my own kind and considerate comments. So, Jay, I have to give Dagny credit for at least replying to your challenge in a civil tone and, at the same time, I have to believe that his words should not go unpunished. I think most of us have jumped him and let him know that we did not like what he said and that should serve as at least partial punishment — if he has any feelings at all, that is, and I think he does. So, maybe outright banishment is excessive unless Dagny is or has been a repeat offender who refuses to change his ways. Just saying….

Per TN Gelding:

1) “War is immoral.”

2) “If left to the Pentagon U.S. troops would still be dying in Vietnam.”

I beg to disagree:

1) “It is immoral to not fight evil.”

Luke 22:36 “He (Jesus) said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.”

2) “If left to the Pentagon (instead of the politicians) we would have dispatched North Vietnam as we did the Nazi’s, South Vietnam would still be a free nation, and the 1st Air Cavalary Division would be sitting on the DMZ there as the 2nd Infantry Division sits on the Korean DMZ.”

3) When civilized man can no longer stand the horror of war and refuses to fight, then he will surely be killed or enslaved by the uncivilized who can.

We’ve had two 23-year-old males here tossing Molotov cocktails to burn down Gene Scrutton’s John McCain sign in the Sellwood neighborhood.

In Minnesota, graffiti messages (“u r a criminal resign or else”) were spray-painted on the garage of U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman’s St. Paul home.

A 23-year-old Michigan man, a Democrat, has admitted to plotting to detonate a homemade bomb in the tunnels near the Republican convention.

In the Washington, D.C., suburbs, a motel with a McCain sign on its lawn received threatening calls and a McCain-signed pumpkin patch was vandalized.

In central Florida, the Republican headquarters manager told police he believed that his home with two McCain signs was shot up because of his support for McCain.

It doesn’t involve physical violence, threatened or real, but “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart’s “[expletive] you” to Sarah Palin in a recent comedy (?) act suggests how far we’ve gone in the age of the unhinged.

I joked at first about some of it. When a reader sent me my column covered with dried feces, I looked on the bright side. He could have said he wouldn’t …. on my column. I took comfort in the fact law officers visited the Iraq War foe (a peace advocate!) and the liberal critic (a Portland public school teacher!) who threatened my family. But the constant expletive-laced rants, the nifty Nazi-Hitler-German references, the holier-than-thou hate for any opposing view from the half-informed — well, it’s not what our public discourse should be about. It wasn’t in a better age. If I sometimes responded in kind (and I did), forgive me.

i just have one question for love child.

what does obama have to do with the fact that this family has lost two members and possibly a third? are you that heartless and bored with your pathetic excuse for a life that you have to stomp on someone while they are already down in the dirt?

lemme put it another way….. lets say that it was YOUR mother and YOUR brother who had been killed possibly by YOUR ex. lets say it was YOUR child who was snatched away from you and you had no idea if he was forced to watch the killings or if he was even still alive.

if someone had started making stupid and heartless comments about those tragedies, would you simply sit there? or would you want something to be done about it?

personally, i think your genitalia should be removed and shoved inside out down your throat along with a very slow acting poison. i think you should die from a thousand paper cuts after being dipped in lemon juice.

but that’s just my opinion and that’s nothing compared to what i came up with during the Lorena Bobbitt issue. of course, i thought she was in the right there so maybe i am the one who is skewed .

however, what you have done by intentionally causing this hurt to this family, is something that you and God will sort out. that is of course, IF you make to God. you may have to deal with the devil. though i imagine it would be hard to talk while burning in a never ending pit of brimstone. have a good night.

Freedom of speech means you will not be arrested for whatever you say. It does not mean anyone is responsible to give you a platform to say whatever you want to say. This is Jay’s blog. He is not required to give you a platform. The media is not required to give you a platform. Schools are not required to give you a platform. No one in the government or private sector is required to give you a platform. There are people on the corner downtown on any given day expressing themselves to their heart’s content. Why don’t you get a corner downtown and spew your evil and hateful thoughts.

While I’m at it, Wal-Mart is not required to promote your religion. If your religion cannot stand on its own philosophy then it’s pathetic. I’m sick and tired of people trying to use the freedom of speech and religion to dictate how other people live their lives and run their businesses!

this entire page is sickening. a little boy is missing in the hands of some sick murderers, a family that believed in god and contributed to their community is torn apart as their mother and brother lie dead… and you people have the gall to conflate that with politics??? its just sick.

seriously. think about it for just a minute.

Please ban that vile creature.

I’ve heard so much of this disgusting racially-based crap, it’s really hard to read blogs, online papers, etc.

I am sticking to fiction these days.

Good ol’ Dagny’s has made vile comments before.

Somehow I think that Ayn Rand would be appalled that that creature is using her characters to identify itself.

I am amazed at some of the folks here who are somehow either blaming Jay for the nasty, vile comments, or somehow defending this piece of feces, by saying that other “liberal’ bloggers have done the same (or nearly the same).

I don’t recall ANYONE EVER celebrating the death of anyone on this blog. That goes beyond calling anyone a “babykiller.”

If you can’t make the distinction, maybe someone should take your computing privileges way.

AJC? Get some help. I’ve never seen so much hatred an anger coming from one person. Stop defending the crap by positng t!t-for-tat cut and pastes you are so infamous for.

What that fool said was INDEFENSIBLE. He does have the right to say it, but Jay also has the right not to allow HIS blog to be polluted by it.

Excuse me, have you even been looking at some of the garbage that has been throw at Republicans? Sarah Palin in particular. Don’t moan about how awful some of the comments directed at Democrats. Eights years of attacks on Bush to Republicans in general. Don’t even attempt it. The left and it’s henchman have been doing this since Al lost the election.

When I went to school we were taught about a constitutional right to free speech. Other than the shouting “fire” in a movie theater, everyone pretty much has accepted the rights as such, within the defined parameters.

These rights have allowed other perversions to be committed in the public venue, such as the burning of the American flag. When compared to that, Dagny’s repugnant comments pale in comparison, and relevance. No need to hold him up to public ridicule either, because he has already done that quite nicely.

Banning the ‘Love Child’ smacks of oppressive of expression. It is the first step what may be next, such as selective banning, maybe because you don’t like the ideology, or just don’t like the person’s moniker. Or, if you are Obama/Biden, it becomes no longer allowing certain Orlando, Fla., TV personalities to ask “impertinent” questions of your boys on live television.

I smell a trend from the left, and that trend is more foul than anything some idiot posts on a blog.

Obama/Biden ‘08 - making it easy to be stupid, and oppressive

An apology is not necessary from “Dagny and John’s Love Child” because it would not be sincere. Frankly, anyone who can express such ignorance that is truly how they are. Keep in mind you truly reap what you sow and you reap from the same seed that you sow. If you can find pleasure in someone dying I pity you. I would be really careful of how you treat people in this world it comes back to play. You may not feel it now but you will.

Jeebus, what a way to miss the point.

The First Amendment does not give trolls the right to stir poo on privately owned threads on a privately owned blog. The Atlanta Journal Constitution is not required to give a public forum to hatemongers.

If the United States Secret Service were to ban him from this site, you might have a point, however odious and tinged by hate-speech it may be.

This girl just lost her mother, her family, and all you people can think about is the next President! This shows how we as people have really become evil! No matter who we vote for or what color we are we should always respect and care for each other. But it seems that we don’t have that in our hearts anymore. Race has came back into play and its turned our world into HATE! I will pray for her and her family and for you so call CHRISTIANS!

I don’t think an apology should be issued, the man has the right to say what he wants no matter how blindingly stupid, nearsighted, insensitive and absolutely insane it it. However, I do think that we should be able to excersize the same free speech rights to call him an evil, blindingly stupid, nearsighted, insensitive, and totally insane jerk.

You are an insane jerk! There is no reason that the death of a child is a good thing, especially not because he would have grown up to vote for Obama. The thing that I dont understand about ignorant McCain supporters is how they are suppose to be the ‘conservatives. the christians” No Christian person would ever think such a thing much less write it online. I was going to vote republican until I saw how truly hypocritical it would be, because the republicans and racist people out there are proving that they are moving the country into the wrong direction….GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jennifer Hudson’s Brother and Mother actually voted early. So although they are no longer with us, their vote still counts. For that I’m glad and grateful for early voting!!!!!! sorry to dissappoint you, but they already voted for OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!! ahahahahahahahahahahaha

An argument could be made for the right to freedom of speech, Love Child, but your remark is in egregiously bad taste.

Spirited debate of relevant issues should be welcomed in society, but making ugly, tasteless “jokes” should not be encouraged.

BAN!

@ Dagny and John’s Love Child: Guess what, it’s not all about you. While you digest that distressing fact, consider learning what the First Amendment actually means. It means the government cannot prevent you from expressing yourself; it says nothing about blogs hosted by newspapers. You want a forum to spew your vomit, feel free to get an account on Live Journal, Blogspot or any of several others. Or, if you have the coin, set up your own ISP and feel free to ban all the liberals, if that’s what makes you happy.

In the meantime, do shut up until you grow some intelligence.

@ everyone else: Damn - yet another person who failed out of basic civics. How the hell do they graduate from school?

To try and celebrate a heinous crime? For any Political angle? If this was truly done, then that fool will find his or her fate. If this was a plant like ‘Joe the Plumber’ for political gain, you had better stop. We the people will vote, or stay at home and wished we had voted, but after Nov. the 4th, Jennifer Hudson’s family is still dead. Never sacrifice the permanent for the immediate. If Jennifer Hudson’s people set up a scholarship or something that people could give towards, so we could express our loss that would be awesome.

As much as I am all for free speech, there is something called decency, which I have found sorely lacking in McCain/Palin/GOP supporters, encouraged by Palin with her ‘pallin’ around with terrorists’ and other incendiary comments. Here is a prime example of such.

The even sadder thing is the miscreant who said the above is proud of his statement.

Jay: You shouldn’t be surprised. Conservatives in Tennessee have put such thoughts into action on more than one occasion—the “Tennessee Tuxedo” assassins most recently, and GOP political activst and church-shooter Jim Adkisson earlier this year.

Be glad the right-wing losers here are restricted to idiotic WORDS rather than actions.
