Q&A / CHRISTIAN SIRIANO, designer
‘Atlanta … has its own metropolitan style’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Thursday, April 23, 2009
The ever-energetic Christian Siriano has been very busy since winning Season 4 of “Project Runway.”
His fall collection, shown at New York Fashion Week this spring, premieres at Saks Fifth Avenue New York, an accessories collection with Payless ShoeSource hits stores in September and his book on style should be landing on shelves in October.
Siriano is making his first trip to Atlanta courtesy of LG mobile phones (he designed a scarf and vest to hold the LG Lotus), for an appearance at Simon Fashion Now, two days of free fashion shows and style tips from about 27 retailers at Lenox Square.
Siriano said he is excited to greet fans and get a taste of what shopping is like here.
Q: What do you think of Southern style?
A: Even though I haven’t been to Atlanta, I consider it its own little world, and it has its own metropolitan style going. I’m kind of interested to see because I think there have been some musicians who have come out of Atlanta who are quite fashionable and quite cool.
Q: What made you design accessories for Payless?
A: I was looking for something mass market. The shoes are very dramatic and have a great look to them, but they are very wearable flats, slingbacks, a pump and boot. … There is something in the collection for everyone.
Q: Tell us about your first book, “Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self.”
A: The book actually did come very quickly after the win of “Project Runway,” and that has been awhile. The book is very funny and kind of kitschy. It is supposed to be entertaining and not so serious, serious fashion; kind of having style and coming into your own. It is very picture heavy and very visual.
Q: “Fierce” was your catchphrase on the show. Have you found a new one?
A: That was an overexaggerated phrase. I probably use it the same that I always have.
