$2,000 car hits market in India

The Nano, a pint-sized $2,000 car designed to put car ownership within reach of millions of the world’s poor, goes on sale in India in April. But whether the Nano will revolutionize the auto industry has yet to be seen. Automakers will be watching closely. “A year ago, I would have said the United States is not on our radar screen,” Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata group, said. Now, “we see an opportunity for a low-cost car. In this economic situation we can see perhaps there is a place for it.”
