GREATER ATLANTA

Missing badges part of probe

Clayton County deputies were given new badges recently after the new sheriff discovered dozens missing.

The location of those badges is part of an ongoing investigation into missing equipment, including weapons, laptops and keys, said Sheriff Kem Kimbrough.

On Friday, Kimbrough pinned new badges —- gold, seven-point stars, on 53 sergeants, lieutenants, captains and majors. The officers turned in their old badges, which featured a six-point star.

The deputies who work on the street and in the jail will receive their new badges in the next few weeks. Starting April 1, anyone using the old badges will be charged with impersonating an officer, a felony in Georgia.

Residents to weigh in on new park

Nearly a year after Cobb commissioners approved the acquisition of the Bullard-Stockton property as a future county park, residents have an opportunity to offer input on its future development.

A public meeting on a master plan for the property is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the West Cobb Senior Center, 4915 Dallas Highway in Powder Springs.

The meeting will be an open-house format in which residents can view various displays around the room, ask questions, provide feedback and discuss planning for future development of the recreation area.

Paul Paulson of the Cobb Parks Coalition called public input on the master plan essential.

Roswell official to get “green” hair

In celebration of Earth Day, Roswell has created a “green challenge” that will require one city official to color his or her hair green on April 20.

Residents and employees will vote for their favorite elected official or department head for $1 per vote.

The winner gets to wear green hair for the day.

Money raised from the challenge will finance a light bulb exchange, in which residents can bring their old light bulbs to City Hall, and receive up to three compact fluorescent bulbs.
