Not content sitting home this Sunday night watching the Academy Awards on your 25-inch flat screen?
At least two local organizations will offer viewing parties for the film industry’s biggest night of the year.
> Oscar Night America —- Atlanta will hold one of 52 “official” parties sanctioned by the film academy on Sunday night. The black tie-optional event begins at 7:30 p.m. at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The viewing party, which benefits the Center for Family Resources, will feature the live telecast, a silent auction, a cigar bar, dancing, hair and makeup touch-ups by the Bob Steele salon, and appetizers and dessert, with one complimentary cocktail.
7:30 p.m. Sunday at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta. Tickets are $50.
> Women in Film and Television Atlanta will host its annual Oscar Night Social & Viewing Party at Stats in downtown Atlanta. The red carpet begins at 6 p.m., with the ceremony at 8. Stats has HD screens throughout the bar, and patrons can participate in WIFTA’s Oscar ballot competition.
6 p.m. Sunday, Stats, 300 Marietta St. N.W., Atlanta. Admission is free, with food and drinks individually ticketed. Entry ballots for the competition are $5 each.
