GEORGIA TECH REPORT: Jackets’ class close to complete

With five days remaining until national signing day, Georgia Tech’s current recruiting class is nearly set.
Following Carl Miles’ commitment to Georgia Tech, the Jackets are down to two unclaimed scholarships. Miles, a defensive back from Cypress Bay High in Weston, Fla., committed last weekend during an official visit.
Dontae Aycock, a quarterback for Chamberlain High in Tampa, is expected to commit to the Jackets on Wednesday.
Tech had hoped to sign 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive tackle Nolan MacMillan of The Hun School in Princeton, N.J., but he committed to Iowa on Thursday. He had been considering the Jackets, Boston College, Iowa or Virginia.
That could open the door for Wesley Tate to accept Tech’s final scholarship. The 6-2, 205-pound running back from Pope John Paul II in Hendersonville, Tenn., also is considering Purdue, Stanford and Vanderbilt.
The Jackets received a brief scare on Monday when Miller Grove wide receiver Stephen Hill, who committed to Tech last fall, listened to a three-hour pitch from Georgia assistant coaches Tony Ball and Rodney Garner on why he should defect to the Dogs.
But the 6-4, 185-pound Hill declined Georgia’s scholarship offer and an invitation to take an official visit to Athens this weekend.
Luallen glad friend will be teammate, too
Quarterback Jordan Luallen of Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind., became a bit nervous on Monday after hearing that Georgia was courting Hill.
“I’m really relieved that Stephen is still committed to Georgia Tech,” said Luallen, who committed to the Jackets last summer. “Stephen and I have been close friends since Georgia Tech started recruiting him in October. But I started to get worried that I was going to lose a future teammate and a friend, too.”
Gainesville’s Jones contemplates visit
After a weekend visit to Notre Dame and Ohio State, Gainesville wide receiver Tai-ler Jones was contemplating late this week whether to attend junior day at Florida or Georgia Tech on Saturday.
“It’s a tough decision,” said Jones, who said he planned to get input from his father before making up his mind. “Georgia Tech is a school that has already offered, so I want to go down there, get a look at their school, see the campus and meet all of the coaches.
“But Florida hasn’t offered yet. I’d be able to get a good look at them and their campus and be there in case they do offer.”
The 6-foot, 175-pound Jones, whose most recent offers came from Notre Dame and Michigan State, received an in-school visit from Florida running backs coach Kenny Carter on Wednesday.
Harrison’s Godhigh to become walk-on
Harrison running back Robbie Godhigh passed up a scholarship from a Southern Conference school to become a preferred walk-on at Tech.
“He had a full scholarship offer from Wofford, and he had a couple of other schools like Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina really recruiting him,” Harrison coach David Hines said.
The 5-7, 185-pound Godhigh will be one of 10 players expected to gain preferred walk-on status at Tech this year.
