ODDS AND ENDS: QB Hill won’t be lured from Curry, GSU

From staff reports

Friday, January 30, 2009

Lithia Springs quarterback Kelton Hill was tempted by the prospect of playing right away at Appalachian State and other schools, but he’s maintaining his commitment to Georgia State, even though the Panthers won’t play their first game until 2010.

“Coach [Bill Curry] is coming to our school [today]; this will be the fourth time he has come here,” Hill said. “It was nice that they told me I could come in and start, but I like [Curry], and I’m sticking with Georgia State.”

Hill had a visit planned to Appalachian State this weekend, but he said he isn’t going.

Lineman loyal to Tigers

Lovejoy offensive lineman Andre Harris toyed with the idea of taking other official visits, but he says he’s sticking with Auburn, despite the upheaval the Tigers have gone through the past two months.

“I had four visits left, and I could have taken them,” said Harris, who said after Auburn fired Tommy Tuberville that he would consider other schools. “They’re free, and you get to go to some new places. I was going to take a visit to South Carolina, but I didn’t end up doing it.”

The departure of South Carolina quarterback Chris Smelley, who transferred, played a part in the decision not to visit, Harris said, and he’s excited about some of the other players heading to Auburn.

“I’m just hoping [Auburn] can get a top 10 class together,” he said.

Lineman wavers on BC

Things aren’t exactly running smoothly around Boston College football right now, and as a result, Wheeler offensive lineman Nick Klemm finds himself at odds with his commitment to the Eagles.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Klemm was 100 percent committed to Boston College, but that was before the coaching turnover, including offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. taking a job with the NFL’s New York Giants. Klemm made an official visit Dec. 12.

After returning from an official visit to Maryland last weekend, Klemm’s choice now comes down to a two-team race between those two schools.

K-State woos Cairo QB

Kansas State is making a push for Cairo quarterback Angelo Pease.

“He is going to take his last official visit to UAB or Kansas State this weekend,” Cairo coach Tom Fallaw said. “He is going to talk it over with his family.”

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Pease already has taken official visits to Troy and Georgia Southern.

“He will probably decide what he wants to do after his last visit,” Fallaw said.
