LITTLE FIVE POINTS
Mike Geier’s Kingsized Holiday Show With Dames Aflame
You don’t get much bigger in stature and vocal boom than Mike Geier, frontman of soulful swing rockers Kingsized. His sprawling Kingsized Orchestra incarnation, complete with horn section, trims the musical tree with a set of seasonal glam at this all-ages event. The Dames Aflame dancers will be kicking their stocking-shrouded gams along to the music. And those bearing an unwrapped toy donation for Toys for Tots get an on-the-house holiday portrait with Lil’ Santa.
$22.50. 8:30 p.m. Dec. 13. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave., Atlanta. 404-249-6400, www.ticketmaster.com.
DOWNTOWN
Playhouse Disney Live!
Playhouse Disney Live! wangles stars from popular kiddie shows “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Little Einsteins,” “My Friends Tigger & Pooh” and “Handy Manny” for a musical stage show. The show calls for plenty of audience interaction and lucky tots may even get invited onstage to boogie with the cast.
$15-$55. Noon, 3 and 6 p.m. Dec. 14. Philips Arena, 1 Philips Drive, Atlanta. 404-249-6400, www.ticketmaster.com.
WESTSIDE
Winter Festival
Since shopping bags are practically glued to some of our hands during the holidays, linking a pair of hopping retail, restaurant and service spots with a bridge is cause for celebration. Mix that with holiday revelry and you have the Westside Winter Festival.
A new footbridge crosses the railroad tracks and connects both Westside Urban Market and White Provision Co. Together, it’s known as the Westside Provisions District, which is home to popular restaurants like Bacchanalia and JCT Kitchen and retailers including Savvy Snoot and Knoll.
The festival bubbles with seasonal activities. Need a photo with Santa? Make an appointment at B. Braithwaite boutique. Learn how to make your own gift cards and decorate wrapping paper at Terra Cottage. Staff from Sprout and Seed Factory will pass on their ornament-making knowledge. Atlanta-based cookbook author Virginia Willis is set to sign copies of “Bon Appetit, Y’all” at Star Provisions. And Bungalow hosts a trunk show boasting jewelry by Michelle Toole. If you can stay out of the shops at noon, when the bridge ceremony takes place, the first 250 guests score a free special edition bridge T-shirt.
Festival attendees will be encouraged to pass on a donation to the Atlanta Union Mission’s Howell Mill Road campus, My Sister’s House, which is a full-service, nightly emergency shelter. Essential items like diapers, clothing and toiletries will be accepted, as will monetary donations.
Free. 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Dec. 13. Westside Provisions District, 1198 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta. 404-872-7538, www.westsidepd.com.
