McCain to campaign for Chambliss in Cobb

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will campaign for U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., Chambliss’ campaign has confirmed.

Chambliss is locked in a tight runoff with Democrat Jim Martin that will be decided Dec. 2.

The post-election race has attracted national attention as Democrats attempt to get a 60-vote, filibuster-proof majority in the upper chamber and Republicans try to prevent it.

Martin has asked President-elect Barack Obama to come to Georgia for his campaign, but so far Obama has not confirmed a visit.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will campaign for Chambliss on Sunday in Georgia.

McCain’s visit to Cobb County will be one of his first public appearances since he lost the presidency to Obama on Nov. 4.

McCain will be the featured guest at a Victory Rally for Saxby Chambliss at the energy center at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. That event is open the to public, and there will be a private fund-raiser afterward.
