CLARIFICATION
> According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, state law prohibits businesses from offering free merchandise or discounts to voters unless they make the same offer to all of their customers. The law reads: “Any person who gives or receives, or offers to give or receive, or participates in the giving or receiving of money or gifts for the purpose of registering as a voter, voting, or voting for a particular candidate in any primary or election shall be guilty of a felony.” A story in today’s Living section on items area businesses said they plan to offer voters today does not mention the prohibition. The Living section is printed in advance.
