Can’t ‘Video Your Vote’ in Ga.

YouTube and PBS are joining forces to urge voters to make video records of their voting experiences on Election Day. But don’t try it inside a Georgia polling place Nov. 4.

The broadcaster and online video site have rolled out “Video Your Vote” —- www.youtube.com/videoyourvote —- to encourage voters to “document the energy and excitement,” as well as problems such as excessively long lines, glitches with voting machines or “overly aggressive” voter identification procedures.

In Georgia, though, state law prohibits photos and recording equipment inside polling places, as well as the use of cellphones once voters have a ballot or are at an electronic voting machine.

Anyone in violation of those rules could face a complaint against them, an investigation and the wrath of the Georgia Election Board, Secretary of State spokesman Matt Carrothers said, though he said he wouldn’t speculate on precisely what punishment a voter taking video could face.

Carrothers says voters should prepare themselves for waits on this busy Election Day, but voting problems should be reported immediately to a poll worker.
