Gwinnett Braves looking for 400 part-time workers at new stadium

Need a job? Like baseball?

Well, the Gwinnett Braves are hiring.

But be warned: The jobs are very part-time —- no more than 71 days a year, and the big benefit isn’t health care or a retirement plan. It’s the chance to sneak a peek at the Atlanta Braves’ rising stars from time to time.

The Gwinnett Braves, the top minor-league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, are moving to a new stadium near Lawrenceville beginning in April. And they need scores of new stadium workers to do everything from taking tickets to keeping the outfield looking pretty and lots in between.

The team is looking to hire about 400 people, said spokeswoman Courtney Lawson.

“For Year 1, we want to make sure every position is covered,” she said. “Customer service is a top priority for us. We want to make sure everyone who comes to the new stadium is welcomed well and has a great time.”

The Braves already have a front-office staff, someone to wear the giant groundhog mascot suit, a radio announcing team and recently held auditions for a stadium emcee. The team is now looking for people to fill these positions: event security staff, guest relations, ushers, grounds crew, bat boys, maintenance workers, ticket sellers and camera operators.

While the team wants workers who can commit to as many dates as possible during the summer, Lawson said managers realize not every stadium worker can commit to working 72 games on 71 days, starting April 17.

Lawson said the team already has gotten a few hundred applications for jobs and is using the same standards as its big-league parent to get the best talent for the positions.

Training begins in March, Lawson said.
