THE VENT
Thursday, November 06, 2008
C’mon, people. An extra hour with the time change and you’re still sashaying into church late?
A big thank you to those poll workers who worked long hours with patience, efficiency and pride. Thank you.
Not long ago, I was buying gas today in case it went up tomorrow. Today, I am waiting until tomorrow to buy gas in case it goes down. I am so confused.
I don’t think the minimum wage is too high, but I do think it isn’t meant to be a living wage for people over 18. If you are over 18 and working for minimum wage in a full-time job, then you didn’t take advantage of the educational opportunities available to you.
It was such a beautiful day that I opened my car windows for the first time in about 30 years. The wind and traffic noise was deafening. So much for that.
We are in a financial crisis. The reason there are 15 people in line at Wal-Mart is because they only have one register open.
The vent about making yourself so valuable to your employer that he can’t afford to fire you also applies to marriage.
More wisdom: Not everyone lost their jobs; most people simply overbought.
Anyone notice how the trees are saying, “OK, we’ve had it. We can’t fight the drought any longer?” I see so many dead trees. It just breaks my heart.
Why don’t we tax all golden parachutes over $1 million at 90 percent?
You know you’re getting old when the “oldies but goodies” music is now from the ’70s.
Can someone please explain why judges in Georgia overwhelmingly feel the need to resign before their term is up?
I would stop flying, but first I have to stop wanting to go anywhere.
Apes are still around because both men and apes descended from a common ancestor.
I strongly believe the diabetes case rate closely follows the fried chicken consumption rate.
Maybe Exxon Mobil can join the feds in helping with the Wall Street bailout.
If the feds lowered the interest rate to 1 percent, why is my variable interest rate loan still at 8 percent?
The opposite of a “perfect storm”? An “imperfect calm.”
Now that the gas prices have come down, when are all the food prices going to come down?
Although I appreciate it, I don’t understand why I have to buy my own house, car, life and liability insurance but expect my employer to furnish me with health insurance.
I spent $100 replacing all my light bulbs with compact fluorescents. They make an annoying hum, cast a “public restroom” glare and have made no noticeable difference in my electric bill. And one of these “five-year bulbs” has already burned out. Now I have to go to the recycling center to discard it.
Why is the level of customer service so much better at Publix than at the post office? The employees at Publix are accountable to someone.
