GREATER ATLANTA

ATV drivers could face tougher rules

The city of Woodstock could become the second government in Cherokee County to strengthen its rules on all-terrain vehicles.

Tonight, the Woodstock City Council will be asked to consider adopting an ATV ordinance similar to one approved by the County Commission last month.

The commission’s ordinance calls for a fine of as much as $1,000 for ATV drivers who ride on public lands and roads. It’s meant to address complaints about ATV riding trails around Lake Allatoona.

A draft ordinance would give police enforcement powers in the lake area, as well as a system of trails the city is developing.

Dunwoody parents get national kudos

The school council at Dunwoody’s Kingsley Charter Elementary School has been named by the education publication PTO Today as its national parent group of the year. Parents last school year put in 8,002 volunteer hours —- a 333 percent increase over the year before.

Kingsley council members are the first group from Georgia awarded the publication’s national honor. If the school’s name doesn’t ring a bell, consider this: It is also the place where Sally Foster —- yes, there really is one —- started a school fund-raising effort that grew into the empire we know today.

VENT OF THE DAY

Why is it that we never get to read any father-in-law vents?
