South DeKalb health care center to open Saturday

A Lithonia medical center that provides health care to the needy and uninsured opens in its newly renovated and much larger home tomorrow morning.
The grand opening celebration of the new South DeKalb Center for Healthy Living will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the new facility, 2699 Klondike Road.
The center provided care for 1,500 patients in its first year in 2007, all from a cramped granite cottage behind a funeral home on Main Street. After an article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution earlier this year, the clinic raised nearly $300,000 to renovate a nearby home that will allow it to double its patient load.
The celebration will feature health screenings and information, as well as social activities. Participants can also register for free flu vaccines at the center on Nov. 21 and 22.
