Slain apartment invader identified

College Park police have identified a man shot and killed early Sunday while reportedly robbing a home as 23-year-old Calvin Lavant Jr.

Another suspect in the home invasion at the Southern Lakes apartments on Lakemont Drive is still on the loose, but College Park Police Department spokesman Officer George Williams said an arrest is imminent.

Police said two men forced their way into an apartment at 2:54 a.m. Sunday, where about 10 people were celebrating at a birthday party.

After robbing them of cellphones and wallets, the men and women were moved to different areas of the home. One of the male victims, who had a gun, shot Lavant, who was found dead outside the complex.

Lavant was also a resident of Southern Lakes, according to police.

An unnamed woman at the party was shot in both legs and her left arm, Williams said Monday. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Her condition was unavailable.
