Condo of the Week: The Mansion

Luxury high-rise in Buckhead offers stunning views, services

For the AJC

Although they had never lived in a high-rise, when Holly and Rick Wolfert, both 54, were looking for a second home in Atlanta, it was high-rise living that attracted them.

Their primary residence is at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, but since Rick has recently launched a commercial finance company, they knew they would be spending more time in Atlanta during the week, as well as time on the weekends enjoying the attractions the city has to offer.

Rick and Holly Wolfert chose the Mansion on Peachtree in Buckhead for their second home.

Because the building was not finished when they bought their condo, they were able to tweak the design.

Getting there

Take I-85 north to Exit 29 (Ga. 400). Take Exit 2 (Lenox Road) and turn right. At second light, turn right onto Peachtree Road. Turn left into Atlanta Financial Center, North Tower, for valet parking for sales center.

A search of high-rise buildings in Buckhead ended at the Mansion on Peachtree, where they found the ambience and services they wanted.

“The reason we chose Buckhead was because of the location,” Holly said. “It has great restaurants, including Craft outside the Mansion and Neo inside, along with shopping and an easy drive to Midtown or downtown for museums and entertainment at the Fox and various sporting venues.”

What provides that ambience: The Mansion is run by Rosewood Hotels and puts all the amenities of a fine hotel at its residents’ fingertips. “The staff of the residences and the hotel is so pleasant to us,” Holly said. “They make us feel like family in that they always seem to be happy to see us. While services like the resident valet and permanent concierge are not yet in place, we use the services of the hotel, and it’s just been wonderful. Everyone is so accommodating, from the security staff to the residence manager, Ann Walker. They are so very service oriented that they have taken care of all of our needs and more.”

Designing their home: The Wolferts bought a unit that occupies half the 47th floor. The developer had selected Harrison Design to do the plans for the space, and since the couple bought before the building was finished, they were able to tweak the design to suit their particular needs. This was especially appealing because they had just finished building their home at Reynolds Plantation and didn’t want to take on another large design project so soon.

At a glance

The Wolfert home has two bedrooms, a study and 2½ baths. The two also enjoy a wraparound terrace that is not standard on every floor. From their bedroom, the view is of downtown Atlanta. From the guest bedroom, it’s the green treetops of Buckhead and Brookhaven. “I was concerned that the bright city lights would keep us from sleeping, but I told Rick one night that the lights were actually calming,” Holly said. “He was the one who insisted on this view, and he was right.” They began enjoying their Atlanta pied-á-terre in November.
