Alaska Airlines plans a daily nonstop flight from Atlanta to Seattle starting Oct. 23, the company said Wednesday.

“We are shifting capacity into markets where we are seeing higher demand,” Andrew Harrison, vice president of planning and revenue management, said in a statement. “Houston and Atlanta are two of the largest markets that we don’t currently serve nonstop from Seattle.”

The airline also announced new once-a-day service to Houston. The Atlanta flight, which will mark Alaska’s entry into this market, will depart Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at 6:10 p.m. and arrive at Seattle-Tacoma at 8:35 p.m. local time.

Alaska’s parent, Alaska Air Group, has an expanded code-share marketing partnership with Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, announced last November. Delta said the expansion would bring more benefits for the airlines’ passengers.

Alaska, with its subsidiary Horizon Air, flies to more than 90 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The company also said Wednesday that it is cutting flights to Mexico by 37 percent.
