Iraq

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Iraq on Thursday to visit U.S. soldiers, just two days after all American combat troops withdrew from Baghdad and all of Iraq’s cities and towns. During his visit, Biden will meet with Iraqi leaders, including President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Afghanistan

An American soldier, who disappeared Tuesday after walking off his base in eastern Afghanistan with three Afghan counterparts, is believed captured, officials said Thursday. The missing soldier was not part of the anti-Taliban operation now under way. Afghan Police Gen. Nabi Mullakheil said the soldier went missing in the Mullakheil area of eastern Paktika province.

Pakistan

A suicide bomber on a motorbike rammed into a government bus carrying workers from a nearby nuclear enrichment laboratory, killing at least one person and injuring 28 Thursday in Rawalpindi, government officials said.
