Bradley Silverman has longed for his moment on the Jeopardy! stage for six years.
Tonight, the 16-year-old Alpharetta boy gets to flex his mental muscles on TV for brainiac game show supremacy.
“I don’t really care if I won,” he said Thursday night, following the airing of the first half of the game show final round. “I just wanted to win as much money as I could.”
Although he was only in second place after the first half of the finals on Thursday night, he’d amassed $26,000.
He gets to keep his winnings, regardless of where he finishes in tonight’s final competition in the national Teen Tournament.
The show, which will air at 7:30 on WATL, was filmed in Culver City, Calif., in early October.
“He’s been wanting to do this since he was 10,” said Howard Silverman, Bradley’s father. “He didn’t sleep the whole time he was in [California].”
Bradley is a junior at Centennial High School in Roswell.
He hopes to major in engineering at MIT, Princeton or Georgia Tech.
He plays tennis and is a member of the National Honors Society, the school math team and Academic Bowl team.
So he was prepared for Jeopardy!-style competition.
“I really enjoy watching it … especially teen week, because I know more than most people,” Bradley said.
Except when it came to really tough questions.
He was stumped by “Celebrity Scents,” naming various colognes and perfumes.
“That’s more than most of our shows,” host Alex Trebek said of the high dollar amounts the teens closed with. “We usually only get as high as maybe $15,000.”
Although he can’t give away the outcome of the finale, Bradley said he was thrilled just to be there.
“Thousands of people try out and only 15 get to play,” he said. “Then to be in the top three … it was an honor.”
