Atlanta's gas prices reach a new high

Atlanta recorded its highest average gas price for regular unleaded Saturday at $4.048, according to the American Automobile Association, which surveys gas stations for its Daily Fuel Gauge Report, fuelgaugereport.com.

The average price for regular unleaded in Atlanta rose from $4.037 Friday to $4.048 Saturday morning. That's up from $3.99 a month ago, according to AAA.

Nationally, the highest average price for regular unleaded also was recorded Saturday at $4.103, from $4.101 Friday and $3.989 a month ago.

Many Georgians chose not to hit the roads this holiday weekend with gas prices up across the state. A year ago, the average hovered just under $3.

On another Web site that tracks motorist reports, atlantagasprices.com, the local average gas price snapshot reported $4.055 Saturday, from $3.975 a week ago.
