Fresh off four Grammy nominations, Atlanta hip-hop artist Akon is in the house at his new $1.65 million estate in Alpharetta.

Riding the critical and popular success of his second CD, Akon, whose given name is Aliaune B. Thiam, closed the purchase of the six-bedroom, eight-bath home at 13940 Atlanta National Drive on Jan. 25. Akon has most recently lived in Cumming. Akon was last year's Billboard pop artist of the year.

His new 5-acre estate includes a pool, six-car garage and 1,200-bottle wine cellar.

Its 20-foot by 30-foot kitchen features black granite countertops, a fireplace, four sinks and two ovens. The estate includes a caretaker's apartment, a dining room that seats 12 people, a media room, and a paneled library with a coffered ceiling.

An inlaid marble floor and crystal chandelier grace the two-story entrance foyer of the 12,500-square-foot home. In addition to the bar and billiards area, the terrace level includes a spa, sauna and steam shower next to the fitness room.

Atlanta National is a gated, guarded community by a Pete and P.B. Dye-designed golf course set among 240 acres of North Georgia forest.
