If the Georgia Track and Field / Cross-Country Coaches Association's Top 10 preseason power polls are any indication of what to expect this fall, Gwinnett County will once again be at the top of the class at season's end.

For the boys, it is Brookwood first, Collins Hill second and Peachtree Ridge third. Parkview is fifth.

Collins Hill and North Gwinnett are one-two in the girls' preseason poll. Parkview is sixth, and Peachtree Ridge seventh.

"These polls are as accurate as can be," said Andrew Hudson, coach of Collins Hill's girls and boys teams. "For the girls, our top five runners return from last year. On the boys' side, everybody sees Brookwood as the team to beat."

Who can stop the Collins Hill girls, who've won five consecutive cross country titles?

Top runners for Collins Hill include Amanda Winslow, Nicky Akande, Allyson McGinty, Briana Crawford and Sydney Williams.

Akande and McGinty just happen to be among the top cross country runners in the state. Winslow, one of best runners in the country, is the defending Class AAAAA cross country champion. Last season, she won track titles in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races.

Parkview had won three straight boys championships before Collins Hill won the title last year. Now all eyes are on Brookwood.

"This year is shaping up to be the year of the Broncos," Parkview coach James Tigue said of rival Brookwood. "We had been ranked first the past three years, but we lost six of our top seven runners from last year. Placing us fifth [in the polls] is fair."

Seniors Michael Sexton and Doug Kalmbach lead Brookwood.
