BASEBALL

BROOKWOOD

The Broncos beat rival Parkview 10-1 to improve to 21-1 overall, 9-0 in 8-AAAAA. Pitcher Alex Beebe (6-0) gave up four hits and one unearned run with two strikeouts over six innings. Offensively, Chase Hawkins went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, Ronnie Freeman went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, Grayson Flack went 2-for-2, while Ross Heffley, Ryan Lewis, Buddy Jones, and Jon Robinson each had one hit.

GAC

Greater Atlanta Christian topped region rival Buford 6-3. Pitcher Andrew Steckenrider got the win for the Spartans (15-4, 10-2 in 6-AA). Steckenrider (8-0) scattered five hits and struck out 12. Brent Burrows struck out the last batter of the game to get the save. Patrick Savage went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ian Graham hit 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

MEADOWCREEK

The Mustangs defeated Clarkston 10-4 as Tony Duarte led the way with a three-run home run and four RBIs. Also, Tri Nguyen contributed with two hits and two RBIs, while Josh Lee pitched a complete game with three earned runs allowed and eight strikeouts. Meadowcreek is 3-12 on the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

NORCROSS

The Lady Blue Devils lost 4-3 on penalty kicks to Harrison in the first round of the state playoffs. The game was scoreless at the end of regulation. Goals were scored by Jenna Hanington, Julie Ellenberger and Jami Lupuloff. Norcross finished its season 11-6-1.

GIRLS TENNIS

COLLINS HILL

Collins Hill beat Marietta 3-2 in the first round of the state tournament Thursday. Eagles winners were Emily Flood (No. 3 singles), Kelly Sullivan and Erin Ensley (No. 1 doubles), and Abby Owensby and Kelsey Arnall (No. 2 doubles). Collins Hill is 12-6 and will face Walton next.

GAC

Greater Atlanta Christian defeated host North Oconee 3-0 in first-round state playoff action. Spartan winners were Chelsea Sanders (No. 2 singles), Jessica Tuggle and Rebecca Gray (No. 1 doubles), and Brooke Lewis and Elizabeth McMurray (No. 2 doubles). GAC is 15-4 and will face Pepperell in the second round on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

GAC

The Spartans swept host Morgan County 5-0 in the first round of the AA state tournament. GAC winners were Chad Day (No. 1 singles), Will Lewis (No. 2 singles), Ryan Miller (No. 3 singles), Kyle Walker and Jake Montgomery (No. 1 doubles), and Brad Bartlett and Austin Collins (No. 2 doubles). GAC moved to 17-2 overall and will face Marion County in the next round.
