Background: Cycling advocates say that due to high gas prices, this summer could be plagued by bike injuries. Take the area's dearth of bike paths, add aggressive motorists, then toss in bikers who haven't been on the roads for decades.

Across the metro area, bike business is booming. Sales of new bikes are up and people are bringing older bikes out of storage and having them reconditioned.
