Whole-grain cookies
Mars Co. has introduced World of Grains Cookies in Oatmeal Raisin, Cranberry, Blueberry and Multigrain flavors. Each 1.06-ounce single-serving pouch contains 130 calories, 15 grams whole grains, 3 grams fiber and no artificial sweeteners. Try grinding them to a powder for a twist on cookie crust. Each 4-pouch box, available at Whole Foods Markets, retails for $3.99.
Pumpkin pans
If you do lots of fall and harvest baking, consider investing in the Wilton Mini Pumpkin Pan. It’s cast aluminum and has a nonstick coating. Make little round pumpkin cakes by baking halves and “gluing” two together with frosting. Decorate the top with orange and green frosting, making leaves and stems, as desired. The pans are $30 at Sur la Table stores. 1-800-243-0852, www.surlatable.com.
Chili varieties in a jar
Hormel Foods just introduced a line of Chili Master chilis packed in glass jars. Flavor varieties include Roasted Tomato with beans, Chipotle Chicken with beans and White Chicken with beans. The Roasted Tomato with beans variety has decent, bold flavor and was more appealing than canned chilis. Topped with shredded cheese, sour cream and chopped tomatoes, these chilis would make a passable quick meal if you’re in a bind. Or heat and use as the base for a tostada salad —- or in various appetizer recipes calling for some chili, when time is short. Suggested retail is $3.69 a 20-ounce jar at supermarkets.
