The muscular figures have been on the market for less than a week, and the phone has not stopped ringing at Herobuilders.com.
“I don’t think I’ve slept more than six hours since Sunday,” said Emil Vicale, the owner of the small company in Oxford, Conn., that spawned the toy-memorabilia figures, which sell for $27.95 to $29.95.
Not since it brought out Baghdad Bob — Mohammad Said al-Sahhaf, the Iraqi information minister — in 2003 has the company seen such sales, Vicale said.
The company has dozens of political action figures, from Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton to Vladimir V. Putin and Tony Blair.
No figure is too obscure for the company to emulate or mock.
“The thing is, I’m not too political, even though my Web site is very political,” said Vicale, who insists he never even votes.
