> The art: “Boundary Issues.” Atlanta architects Brian Bell and David Yocum transform a corner of the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center into a totally different spatial experience. Let’s call it “renovation as a work of art.”

> The back story: Curator Stuart Horodner asked the pair to make a piece in response to a photo series by the late Gordon Matta-Clark, which documents the process of taking off the walls of a house to reveal the interior.

> What they did: Bell and Yocum, who founded an up-and-coming firm called bldgs, applied the process of removal and revelation to the Contemporary’s main gallery. After reconnoitering the interior and exterior, they decided to remove an interior wall, some Sheetrock and the bricks that had covered up a window. They cut away the Sheetrock so that it followed the curve of the hill that the gallery abuts.

> What they revealed: The original, dramatically angled corner of the gallery (and an additional skylight) hidden behind the wall. The brick walls dating from the late 19th century, partly stained into a serendipitously great pink and gray abstraction. A sense of the world outside, including that the gallery is partly below ground, which, weirdly, induces a different bodily sensation.

> What they accomplished: A new personality for the gallery, a new sense of space, time and light.

> Bonus: The rest of the show, which was reviewed in Friday’s Go Guide, is engaging, too.
