FISH GOTTA SWIM, BIRDS GOTTA FLY

And you've gotta love Chattahoochee Nature Center's many activities this weekend.

Starting with the "Family Pond Study" at 11 a.m. Saturday. Ages 7 and up with an adult helper can explore what insects and fish live beneath the surface of the water. This activity is included in the admission price of $5; $4 for seniors, and $2 for ages 3-12. Kids under 2 get in free.

And while you're there, you'll see lots of butterflies in the air as the "Live Butterfly Release" takes place, also at 11 a.m. See the beauty of many native varieties up close and personal. It's included in the price of admission.

Then stick around for "Raptor Mealtime" at 2 p.m. That's when the center's staff will teach you all about the diets and feeding habits of the great horned owl and the red-shouldered hawk.

And finally, don't leave before dark, or you'll miss the "Night Hike" from 8-10 p.m. Join a naturalist on a journey outdoors to see what happens at night at the center and enjoy a summer campfire. Hikers must be 5 or older and the cost is $8.

On Sunday, come on out to the center's "Family Canoe Day" starting at noon. This class teaches kids 5 and older, along with their parents, about canoes, and how to paddle them. It ends with practice on the nature center pond. Registration is required for this activity and the cost is $15. Call 770-992-2055, Ext. 237, to reserve your spot.
