The Atlanta Track Club masters women's competitive team set an American record in the 50-59 age group of the 1,600-meter relay at the USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston.
The team of Linda Lowery, Trenice Mullis Dubow, Mary Richards and Leslie Chaplin Swann ran the event in 5:02:25.
Equestrian
The Webb Bridge Middle School team will compete in the National Hunt Seat Finals for the Interscholastic Equestrian Association this weekend in West Springfield, Mass. The team qualified with a third-place finish at the Zone 4 Regional event at the Georgia International Horse Park.
Team members are: Lauren Reed, Natalie Reed, Alex Edquist, Lexi Ruppel and Taylor Gill.
Running
Bethany Bishop Griggs of Smyrna was the overall women's winner at the Run for Recovery 5K in Gainesville. She finished in 22:06.
Kristine Serkedakis of Marietta finished seventh in the women's 55-59 age group at the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K in Charleston. She finished in 50:06. Other local runners among the top 100 Georgia finishers included: Andrew Bickell, Marietta, 44:48; Linda Wood, Marietta, 46:25; Elizabeth Rocco, Acworth, 46:39; Karen Martin, Marietta, 47:10; and Wills Allen, Smyrna, 48:12.
Triathlon
Eric Elbel Sr. of Marietta won the men's 65-69 age group title at the Red Hills Triathlon in Tallahassee. He finished the 1/3-mile swim/16-mile bike/3.1-mile run in 1:37:50. Nathaniel Goodwin of Kennesaw was fifth in men's 30-34 in 1:28:00.
