At least one metro Atlanta business has moved to protect its employees in Mumbai, India, after violent attacks against Westerners there killed at least 82 people and wounded 200.
Delta Air Lines spokesman Kent Landers said the Atlanta-based carrier checked with its U.S. employees in India after the incidents and is “working to bring them home safely.”
“I do know that we have been in contact with our employees who are in Mumbai,” Landers said. He said those employees would have returned in any case as part of their regular work schedules.
Delta began nonstop flights between Atlanta and Mumbai on Nov. 1, replacing similar daily service between New York and Mumbai.
At Sandy Springs-based UPS, spokesman Norman Black said, “Nothing has impacted our operations there. There’s nobody to evacuate, so to speak. Our operations around the world are staffed by local people. All of the employees in India are Indian. One hundred percent.”
And nobody was hurt from UPS’ local staff, Black said.
Indian authorities said at least four suspects were killed after the attacks. A motive was unknown, but Mumbai has been the scene of Islamic terrorist attacks in the past.
