ELECTION 2008: Lasseter officially in hunt

Former Duluth Mayor Shirley Lasseter was the only candidate to qualify for a county race in Gwinnett County on Wednesday.

Lasseter's qualification fulfills a previous announcement to seek the Republican nomination for the County Commission seat being vacated by District 1 Commissioner Lorraine Green.

Green is running for chairman of the Gwinnett board in the July 15 primary against incumbent Charles Bannister.

QUALIFIERS

These candidates have qualified as of Wednesday:

Lorraine Green, Republican, incumbent commissioner and owner of an environmental engineering firm

Charles Bannister, Republican, incumbent commission chairman and former state legislator

Bruce LeVell, Republican, Duluth jeweler who serves on the boards of MARTA and the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District

Carol N. Hassell, Republican, former Suwanee City Councilwoman and public relations executive

Shirley Lasseter, Republican, director of public safety education for the Georgia Department of Insurance and Fire Safety and the former mayor of Duluth

Board of Commissioners District 3

Mike Beaudreau, Republican, national accounts manager for Ricoh

Doug Stacks, Republican, Dacula, planning manager for the city of Lilburn

Board of Education, District 1

Carole Boyce, Republican, Dacula, incumbent

Board of Education, District 3

Mary K. Murphy, Republican, incumbent

Board of Education, District 5

Louise Radloff, Norcross, incumbent

Ravindra Kumar, Democrat, Lilburn, researcher and teacher

Ralph Villani, attorney, Democrat, former teacher who later went to law school
