Where part of the $6 million goes

The state Legislature allocated $6 million in its 2009 budget to Local Assistance Grants —- money earmarked for spending on local pro-jects, such as buying school equipment, improving parks and improving community centers and care facilities. Here is how these funds will be spent in Gwinnett:

Gwinnett County

$20,000: Construct sidewalks, transit shelters and landscaping of the corridor between Lanasol Drive and Amwiler Road along Buford Highway.

$20,000: Assist with operation expenses for the International Family Center Inc. domestic prevention and parenting classes and programs.

$5,000: Assist with funding for materials and equipment to aid the Gwinnett Village CID with infrastructure improvements.

Auburn

$20,000: Aid in the purchase of books and equipment for new library.

Dacula

$50,000: Restore turn-of-the-century schoolhouse for the Harbins Community Club.

Lawrenceville

$40,000: Assist the city of Lawrenceville with traffic and community development improvements.

$20,000: Assist with developing walking trails and alternative transportation connecting neighborhoods.

$20,000: Engineer transportation corridor connecting downtown Lawrenceville with Georgia Gwinnett College.

$20,000: Assist with re-opening wells as supplement to existing water supply.

Lilburn

$10,000: Purchase equipment for emergency communication centers.

Snellville

$5,000: Purchase new office computers with related software for the Snellville Parks and Recreation Department.

$10,000: Purchase and implement citywide geographic information system for all city departments.

$5,000: Purchase two solar-powered traffic message boards and speed trailer for the Snellville Police Department.

Sugar Hill

$7,500: Assist with funds for infrastructure improvement.

Suwanee

$7,500: Assist with the purchase of equipment to provide security lighting.

Braselton

$3,000: Aid in the purchase of library equipment.

Gwinnett County Board of Education

$35,000: Assist with funding for the infrastructure improvements at Collins Hill High School.

$8,000: Assist with funding for the purchase of technology equipment and supplies at Charles Brant Chesney Elementary.

$8,000: Assist with funding for the purchase of technology equipment and supplies at Chattahoochee Elementary.

$8,000: Assist with funding for the purchase of technology equipment and supplies at Harris Elementary.

$8,000: Assist with funding for the purchase of technology equipment and supplies at M.H. Mason Elementary.

$8,000: Assist with funding for the purchase of technology equipment and supplies at Parsons Elementary.

$20,000: Assist with funds to aid in the purchase of materials and supplies for the completion of a classroom construction project at Grayson High School.

$10,000: Provide materials and necessary funds for the North Gwinnett cluster to train teachers in best practices through the North Gwinnett High School Foundation.

$10,000: Expand reading mentoring project for Everybody Wins.

$10,000: Increase availability of arts training for school teachers.
