BABY PENGUINS AT ZOO--March 1, 2013 - Atlanta - Jennifer Odell, Associate Curator, mammals and birds, with African Penguin chicks, that were born within a few weeks of each other in early January. Part of their development includes getting used to contact with humans. Caring for penguin chicks at the Georgia Aquarium is the local part of an international effort by the aquarium to help conservation efforts in South Africa, where the Georgia folks support an initiative to rescue orphaned, abandoned and oiled penguins. At the Aquarium there are chicks that are hatching -- and have hatched, and trainers working with infant penguins, expanding on our knowledge of this endangered species. BOB ANDRES / BANDRES@AJC.COM
