Map of potential magnetic levitation “maglev” train going from Georgia State MARTA station to Turner Field. FYI — attached are two maps, one provided by the company that shows the planned route of the train, and another for your use, that shows a good map of the area. The Braves exploring the idea of creating new, magnetic train to shuttle fans from the GA State MARTA station to Turner Field. But the company they’re looking to partner with, Marietta-based American Maglev Technologies, has a terrible track record of failed projects elsewhere. In Volusia County, Fla., founder Tony Morris built a test track with government grant and county money, but abandoned the project when the money ran out. Morris then took the technology to Old Dominion University, where he promised to construct a working system by 2002. But the technology never worked properly and several companies sued him for unpaid bills for equipment and construction work. And federal funds for the project fell through after 9/11. Last year, Cobb County declined to pursue the train options because of “the lack of existing US experience.” Story will see how serious Braves are about train plans, whether they are aware of Maglev’s past troubles. Deadline Thursday 080813 5 p.m. Photo: According to Janel, we have photos of the train shot last year but that did not run. I can schedule fresh assignment, if desired. Map: I’ll see if I can get a map of potential route.
