Waiting and waiting for election results?

Begins now the wait… It could be Friday before we know who won Georgia, opines the shrewd analyst of all things political, Randy Evans, an Atlanta lawyer and member of the State Election Board.

Three reasons, he says:

  • Long lines could mean that some vote-counting won’t start until after 9 p.m. Polls close at 7, but those who are there can vote, however long it takes.

  • Some 242,522 absentee ballots have to be counted, starting at 7 a.m. on Election Day. The counters are sequestered. If there are questions of improper voting, or outright fraud, ballots can be challenged. This year 2.2 million votes were cast early, a figure that includes the absentees. In the George W. Bush-John Kerry race four years ago, 422,485 early votes were cast.

  • Finally, notes Evans, “there are the provisional ballots and the challenged ballots.” If somebody shows up without proper photo ID, for example, he casts a provisional ballot and has 48 hours to produce proper identification. Disputes to clear up eligibility can be time-consuming. If it’s close, Georgia may not know the results for days, he says.

With early voting and with the prospect of a historic outcome, blacks will undoubtedly vote in record numbers. Four years ago about 72 percent of black registered voters cast ballots; for whites, it was about 80 percent. Traditionally blacks, who overwhelmingly vote Democratic, turn out in lesser percentages than whites. That surely won’t be the case this year.

The impact could make for close races. In 2004, Bush won Georgia by almost 550,000 votes out of the 3.3 million cast. He defeated Kerry here 58-41, carrying 133 of Georgia’s 159 counties. Kerry carried 26, primarily Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton, a pocket of poor rural counties in Southwest Georgia and a smattering of counties running from Columbus, through Macon to Augusta.

Georgia gave Bush his second-highest vote margin, second only to Texas, where he won by 1.7 million.

Making up 550,000 margin for the conservative is ordinarily unlikely in Georgia, a state that has not voted for the Democrat in a presidential race since 1992. Bill Clinton won then by 14,000, but only because Ross Perot pulled 300,000 votes here. The lesson for Third Party voting is: Never again. The consequence of voting for protest and message candidates is that they don’t win — they enable the election of the less desirable candidate.

Ordinarily a known liberal can’t win statewide in Georgia. But that is changing. Blacks are on the verge of constituting 30 percent of registered voters. That’s usually the indicator of whether the electorate will chose a Democrat or a Republican. With a few exceptions, state House and Senate districts that are 30 percent black in registered voters are represented by Democrats.

Had Democrats done a better job of recruiting candidates, today might have been a big day. Instead, even with highly motivated Obama voters flocking to the polls, there’ll be no significant results to show for it under the Gold Dome.

At present Republicans control the Georgia House with 106 of the 180 seats. Democrats have 73. One vacancy exists. But 142 of the 180 seats — 81 Republican and 61 Democrats — are uncontested in the general election. Of the 38 that are, only four are open seats. Republicans are likely to lose seats, probably about five to seven. One Republican seat in Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale, now held by Robert Mumford of Conyers, was abandoned without a fight because new residents had given it a solid Democratic majority.

In the State Senate, too, Republicans will retain control and it’s unlikely that more than one or two seats will be seriously contested. The GOP has a 34-22 majority. Only 18 seats are contested, 13 Republican and 5 Democrats. Many of the Democratic challenges are in solidly-Republican districts where they have no hope of winning.

In the Congressional races, the one that’s most competitive is in Middle Georgia, in the 8th Congressional District, where Democratic incumbent Jim Marshall is being challenged by the former commanding general of Robins Air Force Base, Rick Goddard. It’s a winnable district for a Republican, but about a third of the district’s registered voters are black and turnout will likely favor Marshall.

Those who have voted already, stay home. It’s one vote per person, not one vote per county or one vote per name.

Everybody else, go. Prove the pundits wrong.

So you think jobs are going to trinkle up? Got news for you—those medium and small businesses that fall just in Obama’s new tax brackets are already making plans to cut employees and stop contributing to 401K plans. I’ve heard of at least three in the last week who are doing this.

Whether we like it or not, jobs come from people and companies that have money. Those jobs Obama wants to open up are in building up our roads and bridges—government jobs paid by you and me, the taxpayer.

So do your little celebration dance all the way to the unemployment line!

No, jobs don’t trickle up. Our middle class will continue to shrink and eventually dwindle into third world status if we continue to give the largest tax cuts to the topmost income earners and ignore the middle class which form the backbone of America. Yes, give the top income earners their fair share of tax cuts but balance it with a healthy tax cut for the middle as well.

Has GW Bush’s economic plan worked? How much deficit are we in? Is our economy healthy after 8 yrs ?

On the other hand, Bill Clinton’s economy strategy was one that led to creation of millions of jobs, a growing middle class, and a sizeable surplus. That is part of what Obama wants to implement. Contrast that with GW Bush’s plan that McCain cannot differentiate his from.

We cannot continue doing the same thing and expect a different resullt!!

According to the Obama plan, the topmost income earner would be $200,000 per couple depending on what day you catch him.

Putting the entire blame of our economic problems on Bush is naive—didn’t you ever watch those School House Videos that explained how the president couldn’t do anything without the approval of Congress? Whether anyone in either party want to admit it, it’s both of their faults along with a sizable potion of the American public for being so greedy for buying things we can’t afford.

Yes, we need a change but Obama is not it. I’ve already seen upclose what his election to the White House would mean for working people—the demise of good paying jobs due to increased taxes on businesses.

It is $200K/single or $250k/Joint. It’s not businesses. You are just regurgitating what you hear on talk radio. These are the same people who convinced you to vote for GW Bush twice.

The people on the right claim businesses pay no taxes because they eventually pass the taxes on to consumers. Yet, they turn around and claim AGAIN that American businesses pay 2nd highest in taxes in the developed world. Well, which is it? Either businesses pay taxes or they don’t.

You can spin Obama’s economic policies all you want but the Obama campaign actually has a tax calculator on his website that anyone can enter his/her income and figure out how much tax cut he/she gets under the plan.

And NO, it is not naive(Good God!) to blame the failures on GW Bush. He turned our record surplus under Clinton into a record deficits. You couldn’t question his policies without being branded a terrorist-lover, anti-American, unpatriotic etc. It’s still going on with Republicans! Thanks to GW Bush’s expensive endlesss wars, our national coffers are bankrupted. We now owe China more than we can afford.

Under his watch, we experienced the HIGHEST expansion of government in US history, and an unprecedented level of job shipment overseas while he kept giving billions in tax cuts and no-bid-contracts to corrupt CEOs. The size of our middle class has never experienced this rate of shrinkage.Question: How do we pay the national debt GW Bush has saddled us with??

Perhaps you also need to spend more time investigating the irreparable damage this administration has done to America both at home AND our IMAGE abroad.

Incredibly, you seem LIKE YOU WILL STILL VOTE FOR GW BUSH IF HE QUALIFIED TO RUN AGAIN. You people who voted for this administration TWICE OWE AMERICA AN APOLOGY BEFORE YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT ASKING US TO VOTE REPUBLICAN AGAIN!!

Can you PLEASE tell me when was the LAST time a sitting president WOULD NOT appear in public with the nominee of HIS OWN PARTY to campaign for him to be president.???? WHAT DOES THAT TELL YA??

Nope, don’t listen to talk radio—heard those changing numbers right from the candidates themselves.

And as I said before Mr. Bush can’t wave a magic wand and make everything go his way—that’s what the congress is there for, to provide a checks and balances. But wait, Chris Dodd and Barney Frank were too busy collecting their campaign funds from those big wigs on Wall Street(according to Poltico.com) with Obama running a close third in collections.

You can say what you want but this economical problem is a collective mess that should be shared with the White House, Congress(which has a 9% approval rating—even lower than the president) and yes, even us, the American people. Bush wasn’t the only one spending that surplus—heck, he can’t even spend it unless the congress passes his budget.

You can blame Bush all you want—but the truth in the matter is that Congress is equally a fault as are the Amercian people spending money that they couldn’t afford. One man can not bring down an economy—but an entire government can. And please remember, Chris Dodd and Barney Frank ignored the problems with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and why? They were getting too many donations from these two to regulate them.

Would I vote for Bush now? No and if I had a better choice, I wouldn’t vote for either of the candidates from the major parties. I’m voting for the candidate that best respresents my values—not killing viable babies in the third trimister because the mother doesn’t want it, taxing hard working people who worked their way through school and made tough choices only to have to pay for those who don’t even pay taxes. And if the news I’m hearing from local businesses, job losses are going to explode to the highest level in years. Small and Medium business are running scared and reacting so.

Look folks who are talkin about job loses, and “taxing hard working people … only to pay for those who don’t even pay taxes” ad infinitum, get some facts. You are just repeating what the politico talkin heads have said - and they lie.

Here is the effect of the Reagan/Bush tax cuts that John McCain wants to continue. The data is from economists at the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities. Go to their website to get facts to feed your brains.

1) Since 2002, 66% of income growth has gone to the top 10% of income earners. That means that 34% has gone to the bottom 90%. How much of that did you get.

2)“Not since 1928, the eve of the Great Depression, had the top 1 percent claimed such a large share of the country’s income.”

One more piece of data: “Though productivity grew by around 20 percent from 2000 to 2007, the real income of middle-class, working-age households has actually fallen $2,000, down 3 percent.” (Economists Robert Rubin and Jared Bernstein in an editorial piece 11/3/08, New York Times)

All tax policy redistributes wealth; the current tax policy redistributes wealth upward. Even Karl Rove has said that the concentration of wealth has to be addressed as a policy issue. The current policy is not sustainable. If you take income away from the middle class you rob the small businessman of his buying public. He won’t be able to keep adding jobs because he won’t have enough customers.

Capitalism is not a panacea for society’s ills - it is an economic system that assumes each person acts in his own self interest. As we have seen in the current financial meltdown, markets do not self regulate and ultimately, greed overcomes common sense. It takes government regulation to limit abuses. It takes tax policy to balance against the over accumulation of wealth and keep the market functioning.

We were not “socialists” or “communists” before tax rates on high income people were cut and we will not be “socialists” or “communists” if we change them. In fact, look at what Rubin and Bernstein said in the article cited above when they recommended raising tax rates on high income individuals back to what they were in the Clinton administration: “It’s worth remembering that rates at this level helped finance deficit reduction and public investment that contributed to the longest economic expansion in our history.”

Obama’s tax ideas will restore income to the middle class. If they have income, they will want to spend it. Small businesses can add jobs because lots of people have money to spend. Small businessmen will also make more money.

Saxby is a Republican in name only (RINO) and a vote for Saxby is no different than a vote for a big spending democrat. The republicans are in this position because of people like Saxby. Any true fiscal conservative would be wasting their vote only if they voted for Saxby. Your principles should determine your vote, not your vote determining your principles. We have a chance to send a message to all Republicans in Congress that you will be held accountable by your base.

Lately, Republicans are no different than Democrats. They both love to spend, just that Democrats want to finance it through taxes on wealthy and Republicans finance it with debt (which effectively is a tax on us all, just a much, much larger one for my generation and the next). Republicans have shown no loyalty to fiscal conservative voters, so why should we be loyal to them?

Saxby is on the record as saying the filibuster should not be used to block judge appointees (he and Isakson wrote an opinion article about it in 2005 in the ajc). Therefore, it doesn’t matter whether democrats have 60 or not bc the filibuster should be off the table for judge appointees according to Saxby (I agree with him on this, because it completely goes against our constitution). Further, if the concern is on filibuster proof legislation, that doesn’t matter whether you have 60 or not since Saxby is no different than democrat in terms of fiscal responsibility. And, even without 60 there would be filibuster proof legislation because of he and the gang of 10 (or however many it will be after nov 4th) that pass supposed “bipartisan” bills where liberals get everything they want and conservatives get nothing.

If you are putting your faith in Saxby Chambliss to stop the democrat steamroller, you are crazy. He is no different than a liberal when it comes to fiscal policy. To me, there is NO difference between Saxby and Martin. And if you think Saxby wouldn’t trade his vote on liberal judges and liberal bills for votes on his farm subsidies for rich “farmers”, you are disillusioned.

Filibusters obstruct the Senate’s duty By U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) (As appeared in The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

Article II of the Constitution clearly states that, as members of the U.S. Senate, it is our responsibility to give “advice and consent” to presidential judicial nominees. It is what this president and every president deserves. It is what the American people want. And most importantly, it is what the U.S. Constitution requires.

Yet for the past two years, the Senate has failed to carry out this duty because the minority party has filibustered several of President Bush’s judicial nominees. The minority has blocked the majority from having an up-or-down vote. Not only does the Constitution require an up-or-down vote, denial of an up-or-down vote goes against basic principles of fairness; it also is unprecedented in Senate history.

We believe it is time to end this obstructionism and fulfill our constitutional duty. That’s why we are supporting Majority Leader Bill Frist in his effort to restore a 214-year Senate tradition whereby judicial nominees are confirmed by a simple majority.

The Constitution specifies those few times when the Senate must have a two-thirds vote, such as to ratify treaties or override a presidential veto. But when it comes to confirming the president’s judicial nominees, the Constitution does not require a two-thirds vote for confirmation. The Constitution clearly states it is the Senate’s responsibility to give advice and consent.

We both wholeheartedly support discussion and debate regarding judicial nominees. It is important for each judicial nominee to have his or her qualifications examined, undergo thorough background checks and be asked tough questions. But it is also important that after a time of extensive debate, there must also be a time for a decision.

A judicial nominee’s qualifications should matter most, and that nominee’s qualifications should be the sole criterion for approving or disapproving a nomination. The debate should be on their legal experience and knowledge. It should not be reduced to partisan politics. It is especially important that judges don’t legislate from the bench and that they put the law above their personal views, politics and ideology.

The president has nominated good, decent and highly qualified people for federal judicial posts around the country that desperately need to be filled. All 100 senators should be afforded the opportunity to fulfill their constitutional obligation to cast an up-or-down vote on all nominees.

The people of Georgia and a majority of folks across the country understand the beauty and simplicity of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers’ vision for us. They understand the fairness of allowing an up-or-down vote on each nominee. What they don’t understand is why the Senate has stalled judicial nominees.

Like many Americans, we believe that our nation’s judicial system should be put above partisan politics and under no circumstances should either party obstruct the courts from doing their important work. In this particular case, the Senate must give each nominee a fair, up-or-down vote to fulfill its constitutional duty.

The question is simple and our responsibility clear. Every judge nominated by this president or any president deserves an up-or-down vote. It’s the responsibility of the Senate. The Constitution requires it.

Don’t even look at that politoco junk—I go directly to the congressional record and look up how these men vote. Funny thing about Obama—he gets a 100 from everybody, even groups that oppose each other. Doesn’t take rocket science to see that the man is talking out of both sides of his mouth.

What I’m reporting is what I’m experiencing. Business cutting back on their 401K and raises, cutting jobs and whispering under their breath that it’s because of the Obama tax hikes. And these are companies that are growing despite this economy.

As far as parital birth abortion, maybe you need to go read up on your candidate. Not only did he vote to repeal it, he introduced a bill in the IL state house to not render aid to a baby born alive during a botched abortion. And that’s directly from the Chicago Newspapers.

He is a draft dodger (if it makes you feel better, let’s call him a draft “avoider”) who was so vile in is first campaign that John McCain would have nothing to do with him in the United State Senate.

He supported the nationalization of America’s banking system, supported government regulation of free enterprise salaries, and supported the redistribution of America’s wealth to the banking industry.

To vote for him is to reward these type behaviors.

Chambliss: “The Other Folks Are Voting”?

HP-Via John Cole, the Politico reports on Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ candid assessment of what motivates Republicans in his state:

The Republican is outwardly confident, but there’s urgency in his voice as he tours North Georgia, trying to boost turnout in his predominately white base: “The other folks are voting,” he bluntly tells supporters.

Just in case anyone was confused about who those “other folks” are, Chambliss gave this quote New York Times:

The development is not lost on Mr. Chambliss. “There has always been a rush to the polls by African-Americans early,” he said at the square in Covington, a quick stop on a bus tour as the campaign entered its final week. He predicted the crowds of early voters would motivate Republicans to turn out. “It has also got our side energized, they see what is happening,” he said.

The ignorant, ranting comments that this blog attract are so vile they cause me to be nausated. Paul Krugman, Pulitzer-prize winning columnist at New York Times wrote a very insightful column on yesterday about the Republican rump— the party of mean, vindictive, non-thinking,racist people who are left in the Republican party (along with Rush Limbaugh, of course) after the intelligent and moderate Republicans have abandoned ship, leaving the reactionary and racist “wingnuts” in charge. The new face of the Republican party are those screaming maniacs at McCain/ Palin rallies shouting, “off with his head!, or that confused old lady with the bad hair-do muttering that “Obama is Arab”. Seriously, how are y’all going to feel about putting this crook back in office in 6 months when it is revealed that the ’safe’ options in just about every 401k in the land is chock FULL of CDO’s and insurance contracts worth 10 cents on the dollar, knowing that the biggest financial fraud in history was aided by Chambliss?

Just today it was announced that the banks seek bailout of credit card debt, the major annuity issuers are losing 50% of their market value because of doubts that the annuities are funded. Yes, these annuities are the guts of many401k “guaranteed” investment options. A 401k plan I researched today had 80%CDO’s as investments.

We begged him not to vote for that bailout, citing MORE corruption, but he voted for it anyway. Now at least 10% of the 700 billion is going to pay bonuses to the THIEVES. Do not let it be lost that Bo Chambliss is a lobbyist for these same corrupt interests. Saxby Chambliss is laughing at you.

Look at who attended McCain’s rallies and compare them to the people who attended Obama’s. Obama’s is more representative of America and it’s time people learn to get along with each other. And to the Whites, Hispanics and others who vote for Obama, I applaud you. Character in action.

If Barack wins, all you hate-spewing Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck fans (also acerbic Ann Coulter, et al) need to step back and realize that YOU are the ones OFF BASE with the direction of the country. Think: If you LOSE the presidency and especially if you also LOSE more seats in the House—what does that tell you? Sometimes you have to look at yourselves when things go wrong for you.

We have had to deal with Bush for the past 8 years and the venom of Rush, etc., for 20. All that hate speech from Rush 3 hours a day (that you Repubs feed on) has adversely affected our civility, and the poor decisions of the Bush administration have adversely affected our entire country and its standing across the world.

Thank God, it’s about to be a NEW DAY. Step back and give it a chance to flourish.

Oh me! I didn’t hardly sleep a wink last night.

When I got home yesterday Channel 2 news was running a report about hundereds of voters that voted in GA and in another state this election. They showed one guy in front of a big mansion in Florida that had voted in GA and FL too. They even showed his big mansion in Atlanta. He must of been a librul.

Anyhow, Channel 2 had checked the voter rolls in SC and TN and FL and AL and found all the ones that voted in two states. This Handel woman was on TV saying these people are in big trouble.

The reason I was so upset is because if they can check the GA voting rolls against the voting rolls of other states, it won’t take them long to start checking the voting rolls of GA counties and find out I voted twice, once up in Rome and once in Forsyth County.

I halfway expect to come home and find flashing blue lights in front of my trailer. Now flashing blue lights up here at Simpsons Trailer Park is nothing new. Just not in front of my trailer. Except for the time I shot out the TV on account of some librul talking trash on it.

Anyhow, I’ll be watching the returns tonight, with one eye peeled for cops coming in from outside. All you godly Republicans need to get out there and vote for old man McCain today. Just don’t do it more than once. I learned too late it ain’t worth it.

Hey Concerned Woman - by “trickle down” don’t you mean the “crumbs from the table” system? As far as Dubya having only limited power, didn’t he railroad through the ill-named “Patriot Act” practically single-handedly (in order to further gut that ol’ Constitution that the government sees as such an inconvenience)? Hey Cornbread Fred—No, I don’t mean the crumbs. I mean jobs, real jobs that are being phased out due to the threat of an Obama tax hike for business. I’ve heard of three companies doing this just this week—that after we got a letter from my husband’s company saying that they won’t match his 401K contributions due to the ‘poltical and economic landscape of our country.’

And the ‘Patriot Act’ still couldn’t have been enacted without the approval of Congress. I know, a republican Congress did that but who are you going to blame for that recent $700 billion dollar bailout the democratic controlled Congress just voted through?

As far as Republicans jumping ship, that’s no different than eight years ago—in Paulding County, I know of several elected officals who had always served as Democrats jumping ship to the Republican party because they wanted to keep their job.

By W Chambliss

November 4, 2008 8:35 AM | Link to this

Lets talk about Chambliss, tax policy and a few economic facts. You need to be willing to step outside rhetoric and do a little research. Just a little. Below is information from economists at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Go to their web-site. I promise, the information there is not “smoked-glass and mirrors”, or “voodoo” economics. Just get some facts to feed your brain and check the accuracy of what is given below. Or, don’t and just read what is below.

The effect of the reduced tax rates that began with Reagan and were accelerated by Bush with help from Chambliss, is to create the largest concentration of wealth since 1929. 66% of income growth between 2002 and 2006 went to the top 10%; 34% went to the bottom 90%. (Now that is wealth re-distribution! How much of it did you get?) One third of U.S. household wealth is held by the top 1% of households and another third is held by the next top 9%. In other words, the top 10% of households hold 60% of household wealth, and it is growing. This economy has not created so much wealth that everyone is getting some of it. As of 2007, there was virtually no growth in median incomes since 2000. If we keep doing that there won’t be a middle class left.

Raw capitalism is not a panacea for society’s ills - it is an economic system that assumes each person acts in his own self interest. As we have seen in the current financial meltdown, markets do not self regulate and ultimately, greed overcomes common sense. It takes government regulation to limit abuses. It takes tax policy to balance against the over accumulation of wealth and keep the market functioning. (It takes other government policies, too, but I will let you research that.)

I have watched repeatedly the Chambliss ad that shows a small business owner saying he could expand his business and add jobs, but won’t because he is afraid Obama will raise his taxes. What I want to say to that business man is that if someone doesn’t change the tax policy, he won’t have a market place in which he can sell the goods or services he provides – there won’t be enough people with enough income. What I want to say to the politicians is that if small businesses are the engines of job creation then, apparently, they produce jobs which don’t pay very well.

All American’s will rue in the future our unwillingness to be taxed in the present to pay for the War on Terror. The President Bush, Chambliss (and before them, Reagan), belief that cutting taxes would ultimately lead to enough tax income to pay for defense spending has not happened. I have no faith that it will happen by continuing the current tax cuts and certainly not by adding more tax cuts to high income individuals. We all should be willing to have taxes increased to pay for this war. Certainly we can live higher on the hog if we keep our taxes low now, but our children and grandchildren will be eating pig’s feet because of it.

Neither Chambliss nor Martin has really looked at the national debt and addressed the problem of the growing debt. Maybe now is not the time because broad tax increases during a recession are counter productive. But, when economic times improve, and they will despite Republican or Democrat tax plans, the time will come when we need to raise taxes broadly to pay for our security. I don’t think Chambliss will have the courage to actually increase taxes when we clearly need to.

Chambliss? No, I don’t think so. The next time you are moved to applaud the politician who promises to keep cutting taxes, consider the debt you are leaving your children and grandchildren.

By Jo

November 4, 2008 8:40 AM | Link to this

Unfortunately for the rabid, angry conservatives, this election is about more than incorrect arguments regarding taxes(made by people who seem to have a rather dubious understanding of economic policy), and more about helping the middle class of Georgia. Jim Martin isn’t as charismatic as Saxby. He’s not a good ol’ boy. But he’s smart, ethical, tough, and cares about the people of this state, which is a lot better than a porker like Saxby who cares more about his golf clubs than doing his job.

Jim Martin’s going to win.

Saxby is running for re-election to his own seat. His was a slam dunk unless the team, from the candidate on down, royally screwed up every decision.

Saxby misunderstands his electorate on everything these days from STOPPING illegal immigration, not just ‘organizing’ it better, to the Bailout, to the prescription drug bill, to the Bailout, to the oil tax increase he supported in August during a year of gas crisis, to the Bailout.

The worst part is that he blames the national situation rather than himself. Saxby absolves himself of responsibility for his voting record.

By Saxby Chambliss SOCIALIST

November 4, 2008 8:45 AM | Link to this

Saxby has ignored his constituents, betrayed his base, harmed his state and his nation. If his previous voting record were not enough, the energy bill that he “reached across the aisle and came up with” should be enough to convince anyone that Martin certainly could do no worse.

I am very much a conservative, but there is no way we should return Saxby to Washington, better to have an uber liberal Martin for six years and then send someone with principles to represent us. IMO, Saxby is worse than worthless, and labeling him RINO is an insult to RINOS.

After Nov 4th, lets see where the senate races shake out and whether Saxby would tip the scales one way or the other in terms of 60 senators for democrats. If it would, then vote for Saxby in runoff. He opines about the budget mess of this country like it has been a peaceful time for America.

The people who perished in 9/11 deserved the action we took in AFG. and Iraq. That costs money people! Wake up.

If you don’t think we should be there? Just ask Gen. Petraus for his opinion…. He know more than just about anyone if we should have inveaded these 2 countries. He says yes Yes we did the right thing Research his opinion and you will see………..

Where America screwed up was giving politicians in congress to much control on what happened in theatre….. Instead of unleashing the full brunt of the U.S. Military, taking care of business and come home.

You can blame bush for some things but you must lay most of the blame at spineless politicians for the $10 Billion a month we spend in Iraq. Nancy Pelosi et al……

As for the Fannie and Freddie bailout due to the mismanagment and negligence of duty?????
Franklin Raines- Obama’s key economic campaign advisor and former Fannie CEO during the debacle

Barney Frank- Democrat Congressman from MA

Chris Dodd- Democrat Senator from CT

Along with Pelosi and Reid (for their stonewalling of any proactive legislation to reel in Fannie and Freddie for the past 7 years)should be brought up on criminal charges for this bailout.

If you don’t beleive that the above is true and that the Reigning Democrats have screwed the pooch while using the media bias to blame Bush?

Obama supporter Warren Buffett is also ‘happy,’ for the Saxby Bailout gives a government GUARANTEE of his 9% preferred stock dividends, while frugal Georgians are capped at 3 to 4% on their savings.

The Kuwaiti’s are also happy that the Saxby Bailout saved their 10% preferred from being wiped out.

Finally, the Morgan Stanley crowd is HAPPY that they get $10 billion in bonuses courtesy of the Saxby Bailout. They are also HAPPY to get 1% money from the SAxby Bailout that they can reinvest at 4%.

Saxby is HAPPY because he has so many happy idiots supporting his theft from them.

Hello, Concerned Woman! Thanks for replying, glad somebody’s out there! I understand your concern for businesses. But let’s not jump the gun worrying about what them ol’ democrats are going to do. In the early ‘90’s (during the Clintonista regime), seven other people and I put together a small engineering business and were able to make it thrive. Admittedly we burned a lot of midnight oil and devoted a lot of effort to it but that would have been necessary anyway. We reached a point where we successfully attacked larger businesses’ customer base and weathered storms through administrations of both parties. Let’s stop the partisan garbage and all strive for a better America and a better world. By the way, describing Obama as talking out of both sides of his mouth - isn’t that a requirement for politicians anyway? And when I get Jim to go out for a night of drunkenness you’re invited. The international business and financial law firm Bryan Cave continues to expand. It will combine with the financial and real estate law firm Powell Goldstein of Atlanta on Jan. 1, the firms said Monday. The combined firm will continue to be known as Bryan Cave L.L.P.

The firms said the combined Bryan Cave would have more than 1,200 lawyers and and other professionals in 25 offices around the world.

“This combination expands our reach into key markets in the Southeast and in Texas through the addition of one of the most highly regarded firms in the region,” Don G. Lents, chairman of Bryan Cave, said in a statement.

“It will enhance our ability to assist our clients in those markets and also deepen further our resources in several important practice areas, including services for financial institutions and in capital markets and real estate finance,” Mr. Lents said.

Powell Goldstein has offices in Atlanta, Washington, Dallas and Charlotte, N.C.

For its part, Bryan Cave has added offices in Milan, Hamburg, San Francisco and Paris within the past 17 months. The firm represents a wide variety of business, financial, institutional and individual clients.

German To be fair, I think the case for Iraq can be made, and can be disputed, depending on who you rely on for actionable intel…….

Bush did not want Iran (another possible target, because he did not wat them going nuke on us) Syria was to seeled off (most of their population resides in the western part of the country. Saudi Arabia, (the most logical choice) was never an option bacause of our bases there, and the oil we rely on(never mind the Bush ties to the Saudi Royal Family).

Iraq was the spot because it is central it has a history of ties to Muslim terroists world over and would suck in, all the zealots that wanted to wage war. If they all came to Iraq, it removed the threat of them coming to America which they most certainly would have. Some actually did, and in some cases were picked up before they could commit more terroist acts.

These things were not publicized on purpose. America wanted the attention focused on Iraq. That part of the strategy worked. The unfortuanate byproduct of the strategy is apathy. Americans are an apathetic nation, and the politicians seize on this to insert themselves where they do not belong. This screws with any military operation.

Not so much my opinion. Talk with a command officer who has served in theatre.

For me, I would have prefered Iran be the recipient of U.S. Military love, but the risk of sending the world into more chaos than its in was too great for some. Overall though the Iraq invasion was the right thing to do in order to perserve the life we have here. Sure somebody gets screwed and somebody benefits in war.

Every President has their “pets” that benefit by their holding office. Republican? Democrat? It makes no difference. President play the hands of history they are dealt. Some better than others.

Gosh Jim, looks like you’ve gotta lot of new fans today. Different names same leftists?

It’ll all be over soon enough — except for the crying. If it’s an OBlahMa win, the crying will come later once the pain of their decision hits ‘em where it hurts. Not only them, but those they profess to care most about.

Stratfor takes a look at The ‘World Electoral Map’

The bulk of East Asia generally favors Sen. John McCain. That includes Taiwan, China and South Korea. Mostly on free-trade policies. Taiwan is in favor because of trade and security.

“Ole Europe” — France, Germany, Spain and the U.K. favor OBlahMa. They feel that his inexperience will allow them to lead/share with America’s first “Europeanist” administration.

In contrast, “New Europe” — particularly Poland, the Czech Republic and the Baltics — would prefer a McCain presidency, especially because of the perception, whether right or wrong, that Obama would renege on American security commitments to the region in light of Russia’s resurgence after the Russia-Georgia war in August.

Latin America has a relatively ambiguous stance toward Obama. Although increasingly influential Latin American leftist leaders revile Republicans across the board, there is no question that McCain has shown more interest in Latin American issues. The chief challenge an Obama presidency will present for Latin America will be opposition to potential and pending free trade agreement renewals or revisions.

In the Middle East the sentiment is mostly in favor of McCain — particularly in the United States’ strongest allies, Israel and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia wants the United States involved in Iraq as a bulwark against Shiite influence in the region. Neither wants to see the United States conclude negotiations with Iran that would result in U.S. troops simply leaving, and most are worried that Obama is leaning toward a compromise with Tehran at all costs.

Finally, the most active opponents to U.S. foreign policy today — Iran, Venezuela and Russia — are hoping for an Obama presidency, operating under the belief that it would grant them some breathing room.

Breathing room to do what?

Another interesting tidbit from a British think tank that met over the weekend. They predict an OBlahMa win, BUT…..

On domestic issues such as education, nearly all of Obama’s policies have been seen before. He predicted that many young college students who were among his strongest supporters would feel severely let down after the election.

I do think Obama will win, but what he’ll do in office is tarnish the politics of hope and lead to more disillusion and cynicism.

The U.S. is split by identity politics and lacked the sense of purpose to bring order to an increasingly fragmented world. “It simply doesn’t know what it stands for anymore,” he said of the U.S.A.

There’s that divide and conquer thingy.

The Democrats and OBlahMa rise to identity politics. Conservatives know what America stands for.

Breakin’ it down! OBlahMa will disappoint his supporters with the exception of Russia, Venezuela and Iran.

Isn’t that just like…..so kewl?

Catch ‘ya later Jim. They gave us the day off to vote. I’ve already done my duty, so I’ll use it to update lesson plans.

Mike B…

“Military Love” for Iran??? Sounds like you are pretty trigger happy!

The argument that attacking Iraq would keep the terrorists away from the U.S. has been made over and over. However, in the process, getting tens of thousands of civilians killed in a different country is okay? Do you have actual proof that terrorists who fought the U.S. in Iraq would have attacked inside the U.S.? I seriously doubt it. I find it interesting, on the other hand, that the Iraqi oil fields have been divided up between U.S. oil companies… don’t you?

Where do military commanders get their intel from? I would imagine from agencies such as the CIA. Now, wasn’t it the CIA who reported that Iraq had WMD’s?

Geman My older brother just retired from 22 years in the U.S. Army Special Forces, and has put “boots on the ground” in both AFG and Iraq in a commanc capacity. He was also for some time imediatly after 9/11 a military liason to civilian law enforcement concerned with domestic terrorism.

The information and back up he has is so scary its borderline unbelievable…. I did not beleive him until I saw some of what he had back in early 2002……

Positively scary. I know I have know credibility here with you. I have no way to prove anything I say (nor the time to dig for evidence to post) but just open up your mind to the possibility.

Sure companie like Halliburton are working the system… They are also providing other valuable services too. This unfortuately is the nature of U.S. warfare. Should we not fight because a few companies are going to benefit? Hell no…. Did we go to war so that a few companies can benefit? I know what some will say, but Hell No….We did not.

Would the war be over if politicians had stayed out of it? Probably. Better Iraq than the U.S.A……Hell yes.

I’d be willing to bet that 80% of the blogs here today are by people who don’t even live in Georgia, but are sent out from DNC HQ with their anti-Saxby rants to try and get Martin elected.

Barack Obama was 8 years old when Bill Ayers was orchestrating terroristic attacks against America. Oddly enough, that was the same time that John McCain was suffering torture by the enemy in the Hanoi Hilton to secure Senator Obama’s freedom.

Senator Obama chose to use his freedom to associate himself with the former (Ayers) and not the latter (McCain.)

For me the choice was clear. I voted for the U.S.A. when I voted for McCain.

To the post that questioned how we can say our businesses are taxed at the 2nd highest rate in the world and then say that they pay no taxes - here is your answer. Corporations pay no taxes. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t taxed at the 2nd highest rate in the world (soon to be #1). They pass on the tax to consumers of their product. The tax is factored into the price they charge which is then collected and passed onto the government. All taxing corporations does is put these businesses at a disadvantage in the global market. That results in loss of jobs because the jobs don’t belong to America, they belong to the businesses that create them. If you want to see more jobs leave America, raise their taxes. Government raises more revenue when they lower taxes not raise them (look up the Laffer curve if you dont believe it)

Hey Mike B……. Gee how about what Carl Rove has said……

(CNN) – John McCain and his aides are still banking on a come-from-behind victory Tuesday, but the GOP’s most famous political strategist has already called the race for Barack Obama.

Karl Rove, the man widely credited with engineering President Bush’s two successful White House bids, is predicting the Illinois senator will take the White House in an Electoral College landslide, winning 338 votes to John McCain’s 200. That would be the largest Electoral College victory since 1996, when Bill Clinton defeated Bob Dole in a 379-159 rout.

Watch: Kenyans pulling for Obama

In an Electoral Map posted on Rove’s Web site, the Republican mastermind predicts Obama victories in several key battlegrounds, including virtually all of the states where polls suggest he currently enjoys a slim advantage. In fact, Rove believes Missouri is the only crucial battleground state McCain will carry, while Obama scores victories in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, and Iowa. Rove also thinks Obama will win traditionally-Republican Virginia.

McCain is toast…

Jon,

Your post is interesting. If all you say is true, did the financial instituitions fail because they invested their tax funded profits in their businesses(more jobs and resources) or did they take their profits and distribute them to those at the top? Is it not true that these firms failed under the Bush tax system? Do you really believe that lowering taxes will help by creating more low paying jobs for Americans or will it create more profits for those at the top? Did you factor in outsourcing labor to India and China? I believe that we both know the answer to this whole mess that is called capitalism. Those with the money and power want to keep it while those without want to get it. Sounds like class warfare to me. Bush and Chaney(government) took care of themselves and people like you. Obama and Biden(Government) offers the best choice for those who want in on the the profit train.

Middle Class Tax Payer @ 11:15:

At least you posted some new material from the RNC and Fox News.

And what, exactly, makes you think such a thing? Is it because you’re limited, by available resources, to enjoy that to which I am so priveleged?

About Stratfor

Stratfor is the world’s leading online publisher of geopolitical intelligence. Our global team of intelligence professionals provides our Members with insights into political, economic, and military developments to reduce risks, to identify opportunities, and to stay aware of happenings around the globe.

Stratfor provides three types of intelligence products:

  • Situational Awareness - News is a commodity that you can get anywhere on the Internet. Situational Awareness is knowing what matters, and an intelligence professional’s responsibility - Stratfor’s responsibility - is to keep you apprised of what matters without wasting your time with clutter. We provide near real-time developments from street revolutionary movements to military invasions. OJ’s latest arrest and mudslinging in Washington and Brussels don’t make the cut.

  • Analyses - Stratfor tells its Members what events in the world actually mean. We also tell you when events are much ado about nothing. Oftentimes the seemingly momentous is geopolitically irrelevant and vice versa. We discern what’s important objectively - without ideology, a partisan agenda, or a policy prescription.

  • Forecasts - Knowing what happened yesterday is helpful; knowing what’s going to happen tomorrow is critical. Stratfor’s intelligence team makes definitive calls about what’s next. These aren’t opinions about what should happen; they’re analytically rigorous predictions of what will happen.

  • You should try it sometime MCTP. It filters out the noise on which people like you rely so much. It’ll cost ‘ya though — just like an OBlahMa presidency. Bein’ a dem, you probably couldn’t afford it on the $1.37 a day your One has promised.

As such, He urges all Right Thinking True Believers to join Him in a pact to withdraw utterly and totally from cooperation with the Godless Democrats and their False Messiah, to promise to provide no succor nor comfort to these Satanic forces.

Ragweed’s Gulch is one alternative, but be honest…how many of these UberRoarks will be able to resist a quick trip to town for a Thickburger and a stop at the Cheetah? Right, not many. As for Sister Dusty, where will she be without her daily dozen Krispy Kreme fix? Right. And who really thinks they will give up cable TV?? Most of our brethren have become dependent upon Col. Rush and Major Hannity, and have (admirably) quelled their ability to think for themselves. TV is essential to Our Lifestyle and Intellectual Vitality.

So as we can see, retreat to the Gulch does nothing.

So in the spirit of These Times, THE Captain urges all disgruntled and disaffected True Believers to do the Right Thing. Close the garage door, turn on the Hummer, and drift away into the waiting arms of Jesus. A handful of Xanax washed down with a fine Scotch, or in Dusty’s case, a bargain vodka. Be creative!! However, THE Captain wishes to discourage more overt shows of auto-demise, such as self-immolation, sucking the .45, or tossing oneself on the MARTA tracks. That would be unseemly, and it would never do for our Final Statement to be impolite. Such street theatre is the baliwick of granolamunchinglesbothespians and their pot smoking Democrat leaders. Let us not go there.

So, precisely at the moment that St John concedes the race, let us all “turn out the lights”, metaphorically speaking, and leave the lazy Islamunistorastawelfarians to fend for themselves in the darkness, without the help of the Productive Class members like Ragnut and Dusty and Mr Wooten, those who contribute so much to Our Way of Life. That’ll show Those People who’s boss!!!!

If Obama wins and he attempts to govern from the far left like he preaches, the economic crisis will not end in 2009, taxes will go up on all of us, not just “the rich” and his party will be devastated in 2010 just as the Democrats were in 1994 after Billary tried to do the same thing.

Unfortunately for all you leftist cheerleaders out there, Big O is only one man. He has to deal with Congress, not all of whom, (even the Democratic ones) agree with all of what he proposes to do. Good case in point, in 1992 Bill Clinton attempted to get the Striker Replacement Bill through Congress. He had a Democratically controlled one too, but three Democratic Senators voted against it and it failed. Ditto his and Hillary’s healthcare plan. And if you think Big O is gonna single handedly reform healthcare I want some of the stuff you are smoking. How much money do you think the insurance companies have to throw around to these Congresscritters to see that it doesn’t go through?

Bottom line, Big O is NOT the Messiah or the Antichrist, he’s just another inexperienced politican who will say what the people want to hear so he can get elected. McCain is no better.

Something is just not feeling right about the turnout numbers being reported in GA. How did we have less people voting this year than in 2004 with the population growth, the explosion in new voters who registered, and this high profile campaign. It has to me more than “people were scared away by the long lines in early voting”. Early voting helped to reduce the lines on election day. This is why I know the best way to go will be the runoff election for the Senate seat because I believe a lot of votes have gone “missing”.
