It’s truly vital that we keep Chambliss

We fiscal conservatives may indeed find ourselves in the wilderness after Tuesday. If so, the first duel will be why we were uncompromising when the consequences were so severe.

A filibuster-proof Senate, if combined with a Barack Obama presidency and a Nancy Pelosi-led majority in the House, will lurch this nation to the left with consequences that may take decades, if not generations, to undo.

Some conservatives part ways with U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss because they believe him insufficiently pure on spending, on offshore drilling and on immigration, areas where he’s inclined to find compromise with Democrats.

Admittedly, he’s not Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, the Senate’s Dr. No on earmarks. Nor is he South Carolina’s Jim DeMint, ranked by the National Journal as the most conservative senator. But neither is he in the company of Republicans Gordon Smith of Oregon and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, all of whom are dead-center. With announced and expected departures, the Senate moves even further leftward — how far depends on Tuesday.

By Wednesday morning, we could have a mystery man elected president, one with a history of associating with radicals without seeing or hearing their extremism; an untested mystery man who declares he was always right yesterday but never seems to make a decision when it matters. He’s a mystery man with a running mate, Joe Biden, who is fully knowledgeable about foreign policy, but, as John McCain noted, doesn’t necessarily reach sound conclusions. “In Iraq,” said McCain of Biden, “he had this cockamamie idea about dividing Iraq into three countries” and on national security issues, “he’s been wrong on a number of the major ones.”

Given the possibility that we’ll elect a president who can’t judge character and a vice president who, with knowledge and experience, can’t get it right, the Senate race in Georgia is enormously important.

We will come to know Barack Obama only after he is in the White House. We’ll know whether he’s able to resist pressure from interest groups and liberals who believe they should go for broke quickly.

In that milieu, Chambliss’ contest is huge. Give the left a filibuster-proof Senate, and in addition to a legislative tsunami, there will be a concerted effort to pack the federal courts, including the Supreme Court, with activist judges who’ll carry out the left’s agenda long after liberals again lose political power.

“The Democrats have not been letting us get either district or circuit court judges approved over the last seven to nine months, as promised,” said Chambliss from his road tour of Georgia last week. “If there’s a filibuster-proof Senate, from the Supreme Court on down, he would be able to appoint very, very liberal judges, and there would be nothing [Republicans in] the Senate could do to stop that.” He continued:

The biggest fear that you have is that they get that filibuster-proof Senate, even though it is a long shot. If they do, Barney Frank has said the first thing they’ll do is slash defense by 25 percent. They’ll pass the Employee Free Choice Act and write a secret ballot away from everybody” in the workplace.

He spells out the consequences. In addition to increasing taxes, Democrats will “increase spending on social domestic programs like we have never seen before.” He is not exaggerating. Our grandchildren and theirs could be paying for the excesses of an unchecked Obama administration pushed by the Angry Left.

Purists among conservatives find themselves drawn to the Libertarian message that urges us to be adult, be responsible, pay the bills. The reality is, however, that about half the country has become vested in Big Government. They’re addicted. The task now is to find a way to wean them and to nurture them back to self-reliance.

There’s too much ground to cover to play petty games now. A Libertarian vote in the U.S. Senate race is a vote for the Obama agenda. No question.

“A vote in protest is really a vote for the Democrats,” Chambliss said, stating the obvious. “I have never cast a vote to raise taxes. I have made sure our defense community is strong and robust.” When you look at the positive things out there, the things all conservatives agree on, Chambliss notes that he’s with the purists 80 percent to 90 percent of the time.

A protest vote in 1992 got us Bill Clinton. A protest vote now could get us a filibuster-proof Senate.

Couldn’t agree more, Jim. I am a libertarian, but certainly have a pragmatic streak. If we lose Chambliss, I can foresee where he would be the 60th vote.

Well, I don’t know what the big ag people will do if old Saxby ain’t returned to the Senate. They won’t have nobody to lean on EPA and CDC to keep them from studying the effects of poisons used on big farms. And they won’t get billions of bucks in the bills Congress passes. The big ag people will probly give up and stop farming and we will all starve to death.

People hold it against old Saxby just because he first wanted to let a few million illegals get legal so the big ag and chicken folks would have a cheap source of labor. Well, he changed his mind pronto when he heard from about 5 million folks back home. In the end he voted Right, and that makes him OK in my books. At first he got bamboozled but he seen the light on his own.

I know most folks don’t know much about what old Saxby does up there. That’s because most of his work is Secret. Don’t go thinking he don’t do nothing just because his work is Secret. He works hard to keep bills of the librul Democrats from being voted on. That’s the reason Wooten says we need to get him back in the Senate. See, even Wooten don’t know what old Saxby does with the rest of his time. That’s how Secret old Saxby’s work is.

If it wasn’t for folks like him we wouldn’t be able to talk about a do-nothing Congress on account of Congress would do something. And that would be a bad thing. Old Saxby is the sand that gets in the gears. And every farmer needs a little sand.

Well, a bunch of us down at Billy Bob’s was talking last night about weather we would accept a 1000-buck check from the guvmint if this Obama gets elected and puts in his tax plan. A few said it would be evil to take money that had been took from people like AJCCommie and Raghead and other well-off folks like that. They said it would ruin Trickle Down. Which we are still waiting for.

But most of us decided that 1000 bucks would buy about 70 cases of PBR and besides AJC Commie and Raghead already got so much money from My President’s tax cut they wouldn’t miss the little extra they’d have to pay. So we said if it comes down to taking money from a few people or suffering a dry gullet, then we have to take care of the dry gullet first.

Anyhow, I’m laying in beer and pork skins for watching the election returns Tuesday night. If things start going bad for us godly Republicans and old Saxby, I’ll turn my back to the TV like I always do when I hear things I don’t like and drink lots of beer and go light on the pork skins. I’m just hoping old man McCain can turn things around. I would hate to have to move to Alabama so I wouldn’t have to hear people asking when they learned I’m from GA, “Say, didn’t you vote for this Obama?” The shame of it all would be too much to bear.

Have a good Saturday everybody. Note to Sister Dusty’s big-lug sons: Tuesday night could be a bad time for visiting your Mama. If things go the way the experts say, you don’t want to be around that house. You ain’t too big to get slugged.

We’ve had socialism in this country for two centuries, but it was always socialism for corporations and the rich. How dishonest it is for Republicans to claim Obama is a socialist when they have benefited from corporate socialism from the start of American industrialization. Or haven’t you noticed that Bush is not exactly a disciple of Thomas Jefferson?

Good morning.Too bad Saxby doesn’t have the popularity that the two Senators from Maine command.Snowe rakes in about 70% of the vote each time she runs and I read that Collins is double digits ahead of her opponent in this year’s race.Saxby should take a page out of their playbook, maybe.Voter approval means a lot come election day.

Today marks the first anniversary of me becoming a non-consumer.365 day ago I decided to make a conscious effort to reduce my spending on non-essential material goods. The wife and I purchase only what we actually need.

The year has been an unqualified success. We have a pile of money to prove it.We have a laid back life style that’s hard to beat. The restaurants, coffee shops, hardware stores, building centers miss us,but we don’t miss them.My Scottish forebears would be proud.

On a heavier note,Tuesday looms.Vote for McCain.Remember, please that a vote for a third party helps get Obama elected. We cannot let Sister Dusty slip over the edge Tuesday night.

Fine Jim, if it’s so vital, you may keep Saxby. You and the rest of the righturds can keep him, maybe you’ll want to construct a closet or an exhibit of some type to keep him fresh.

Saxby has not only shown that he’s bad for our state and our nation but he’s proven himself to be the worse sort of racist southern stereotype. His call yesterday for his supporters to vote for him because “those other people are voting” is disgusting.

You should take him with you and all of you move to Alabama or some other redneck racist enclave. Maybe you, Saxby, W and Sarah Palin can establish your own little hideout after we send him home.

Whether you vote for Buckley or Saxby does not impact whether Martin wins on November 4th. There are 3 possible scenarios: (1) Saxby wins with 50+% (2) Martin wins with 50+% (3) runoff. I can guarantee you one thing, Martin will not get to 50%, so you don’t have to worry about him winning on Nov 4th. A runoff is almost inevitable at this point. After Nov 4th, lets see where the senate races shake out and whether Saxby would tip the scales one way or the other in terms of 60 senators for democrats. If it would, then vote for Saxby in runoff. You can still vote your conscience on all matters right now.

With or without Martin there will be no filibuster-proof majority - a few Democratic (and two independent) defections are more likely than Republican. Rather than focusing on the (purely partisan) “horror” of a Democratic majority, it’s time for Wooten to face up to the failure and collapse of Ray-gun-ism.

Retire, Wooten. Your day is done.

Chambliss: “The Other Folks Are Voting”

Via John Cole, the Politico reports on Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ candid assessment of what motivates Republicans in his state:

The Republican is outwardly confident, but there’s urgency in his voice as he tours North Georgia, trying to boost turnout in his predominately white base: “The other folks are voting,” he bluntly tells supporters. Just in case anyone was confused about who those “other folks” are, Chambliss gave this quote New York Times:

The development is not lost on Mr. Chambliss. “There has always been a rush to the polls by African-Americans early,” he said at the square in Covington, a quick stop on a bus tour as the campaign entered its final week. He predicted the crowds of early voters would motivate Republicans to turn out. “It has also got our side energized, they see what is happening,” he said. Former Sen. Max Cleland, who was beaten by Chambliss in 2002, expressed concern in an interview with the Huffington Post about a “white backlash” to Barack Obama in the South. But he also touted the “historic numbers in terms of registration, African-Americans and young people” that is changing the region’s political landscape in “fundamental” ways.

If Saxby is the thing that you have to save you are in bad shape. Even more so if you claim to be a conservative. Saxby is a shallow, dishonest, hypocritical oportunist. He is the poster boy for what happens when conservatives give up their principles to attract religious nuts, anti-science screwballs, fear mongers, bigots, and assorted others freaks to get elected. Saxby is a Republican in name only (RINO) and a vote for Saxby is no different than a vote for a big spending democrat. The republicans are in this position because of people like Saxby. Any true fiscal conservative would be wasting their vote only if they voted for Saxby. Your principles should determine your vote, not your vote determining your principles. We have a chance to send a message to all Republicans in Congress that you will be held accountable by your base.

Lately, Republicans are no different than Democrats. They both love to spend, just that Democrats want to finance it through taxes on wealthy and Republicans finance it with debt (which effectively is a tax on us all, just a much, much larger one for my generation and the next). Republicans have shown no loyalty to fiscal conservative voters, so why should we be loyal to them?

Saxby is on the record as saying the filibuster should not be used to block judge appointees (he and Isakson wrote an opinion article about it in 2005 in the ajc). Therefore, it doesn’t matter whether democrats have 60 or not bc the filibuster should be off the table for judge appointees according to Saxby (I agree with him on this, because it completely goes against our constitution). Further, if the concern is on filibuster proof legislation, that doesn’t matter whether you have 60 or not since Saxby is no different than democrat in terms of fiscal responsibility. And, even without 60 there would be filibuster proof legislation because of he and the gang of 10 (or however many it will be after nov 4th) that pass supposed “bipartisan” bills where liberals get everything they want and conservatives get nothing.

If you are putting your faith in Saxby Chambliss to stop the democrat steamroller, you are crazy. He is no different than a liberal when it comes to fiscal policy. To me, there is NO difference between Saxby and Martin. And if you think Saxby wouldn’t trade his vote on liberal judges and liberal bills for votes on his farm subsidies for rich “farmers”, you are disillusioned.

Filibusters obstruct the Senate’s duty By U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) (As appeared in The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

Article II of the Constitution clearly states that, as members of the U.S. Senate, it is our responsibility to give “advice and consent” to presidential judicial nominees. It is what this president and every president deserves. It is what the American people want. And most importantly, it is what the U.S. Constitution requires.

Yet for the past two years, the Senate has failed to carry out this duty because the minority party has filibustered several of President Bush’s judicial nominees. The minority has blocked the majority from having an up-or-down vote. Not only does the Constitution require an up-or-down vote, denial of an up-or-down vote goes against basic principles of fairness; it also is unprecedented in Senate history.

We believe it is time to end this obstructionism and fulfill our constitutional duty. That’s why we are supporting Majority Leader Bill Frist in his effort to restore a 214-year Senate tradition whereby judicial nominees are confirmed by a simple majority.

The Constitution specifies those few times when the Senate must have a two-thirds vote, such as to ratify treaties or override a presidential veto. But when it comes to confirming the president’s judicial nominees, the Constitution does not require a two-thirds vote for confirmation. The Constitution clearly states it is the Senate’s responsibility to give advice and consent.

We both wholeheartedly support discussion and debate regarding judicial nominees. It is important for each judicial nominee to have his or her qualifications examined, undergo thorough background checks and be asked tough questions. But it is also important that after a time of extensive debate, there must also be a time for a decision.

A judicial nominee’s qualifications should matter most, and that nominee’s qualifications should be the sole criterion for approving or disapproving a nomination. The debate should be on their legal experience and knowledge. It should not be reduced to partisan politics. It is especially important that judges don’t legislate from the bench and that they put the law above their personal views, politics and ideology.

The president has nominated good, decent and highly qualified people for federal judicial posts around the country that desperately need to be filled. All 100 senators should be afforded the opportunity to fulfill their constitutional obligation to cast an up-or-down vote on all nominees.

The people of Georgia and a majority of folks across the country understand the beauty and simplicity of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers’ vision for us. They understand the fairness of allowing an up-or-down vote on each nominee. What they don’t understand is why the Senate has stalled judicial nominees.

Like many Americans, we believe that our nation’s judicial system should be put above partisan politics and under no circumstances should either party obstruct the courts from doing their important work. In this particular case, the Senate must give each nominee a fair, up-or-down vote to fulfill its constitutional duty.

The question is simple and our responsibility clear. Every judge nominated by this president or any president deserves an up-or-down vote. It’s the responsibility of the Senate. The Constitution requires it.

  • He is a draft dodger (if it makes you feel better, let’s call him a draft “avoider”) who was so vile in is first campaign that John McCain would have nothing to do with him in the United State Senate.

  • He supported the nationalization of America’s banking system, supported government regulation of free enterprise salaries, and supported the redistribution of America’s wealth to the banking industry.

The reality here in Georgia is that our US Senate race is going to be a runoff.

There was an exit poll posted at Daily Kos yesterday that showed Allen Buckley getting 5% of the early votes here in the Peach State.

I urge all of you that might have missed the three televised Senate debates that were broadcast during the last 3 weeks to go to the websites of WSB TV, WALB TV, WMAZ TV or CSPAN and watch the debates. It’s 2 1/2 hours of your life, nothing blows up and there are no scantily clad women to distract you. Yeah, it’s dry stuff but you will see and hear some interesting statements.

All the interesting stuff comes from Allen Buckley. On immigration, economics and defense he has some striking proposals. He’s the only candidate that has publicly sworn to not accept a dime of special interest money. He’s also the only candidate in this contest with some fire in his belly. I like fire in the belly.

Senator Chambliss performs exactly as you would expect an incumbent to. He bloviates on about his voting record in a somewhat detached manner, kind of like he’d really rather be anywhere but here at a debate.

Martin has trouble staying on topic and seems really confused about who he’s running against. I think the top gaffe of this race occurred during his closing statement at the WSB debate, when he said if you want somebody who’ll look after your interests, Saxby will, and I won’t, or something to that effect.

So if you’re undecided, or you get undecided during the next 3 days, take a chance, roll the dice, vote for Allen Buckley for US Senate. You will get a chance to rethink the matter on 2 DEC 08.

Good morning all. Saxbe is the worst senator imaginable except for his opponents. The US does not deserve a veto-proof democrat senate, not after all the damage the leftists have done via FNMA and FHLMC, and their unconscionable efforts to undermine our noble military at a time of war against the Islamists. I fully believe the leftists would even run a Marxist named Hussein for president, although Zogby and Dick Morris seem to suggest all momentum is toward Captain Queeg now. Sanity is returning.

While I hope to see Jim Wooten or our friend Glenn run against Saxbe in six years, I did vote for Mr. Chambliss two weeks ago (and specifically did not vote against his opponents.) Our immediate focus should be running a conservative against Johnny in the 2010 republican primary.

It’s imperative that Martin wins and we fire Chambliss and we will. Chambliss has been part of dismantling civil liberties, destroying the US financially, making the US hated worldwide, and killing 5000 people and severely wounding 40,000 others. Chambliss dodged the draft faking a knee injury that no knee expert would buy, and his son is a coward not going to Iraq.

    1) A filibuster proof Senate is the only way to get out of the gridlock that has this nation in the toilet thanks to 8 years of terrible GOP stewardship.

    2) Chambliss is in the pocket of a sugar company and other GOP lobbyists.

    3) Chambliss doesn’t give a damn about your civil liberties.

    5) Chambliss voted with Bush nearly 100% of the time.

    6) Chambliss sponges free airline charters for favors.

    7) Chambliss’ son Bo makes a living peddling influence with daddy.

    8) Chambliss has a plan to make sure your taxes stay high unless you make $250,000 or more. Then he’s all for tax breaks.

    9) Chambliss could give two shi*s about middle America.

    10) The whole point of change is to get rid of someone who voted with Bush 100% of the time.

The so called fiscal conservatives have given $250 billion of your money to investment banks who are not lending a cent with no strings attached. They threw away your money. AIG has not had to account for a cent of the $120 billion they alrady spent. The fiscal conservatives are financial and fudiciary fools. The disaster created by Bush is so profound, we need a 60 Senate majority to begin to fix it. It will be a colossal job for President Obama.

After Republicans have gridlocked and wrecked this country it is the ultimate chutzpah of the superficial and poorly read Wooten to want to return Chambliss to the Senate.

Offshore drilling is a pure joke that will not relieve the gas guzzling SUV mess Americans have gotten themselves in. Electric cars and fuel efficiency is the way. We are compromising foreign policy by being oil dependent and Chambliss has been a huge part of it.

Wooten wouldn’t know a compromise if it bit him in the butt. It’s all about patrician arrogance for Wooten, Phil Kent, Dick Williams, and his drinking buddies.

Olympia Snow, Susan Collins and Chambliss are 3 of the dumbest Senators in history.

Chambliss lied to you about the need for the FISA bill. Sufficient wire tapping modalities were already in place. The NSA is recording all your conversations and all your emails and if any of them are juicy they are passing them around from right here in North Georgia. Jim Bamford’s Shadow Factory documents this in detail with witnesses who were in the eavesdropping program. Chambliss champions illegal eavesdropping.

Many of the departures are from law breakers who got caught. Hooker Vitter, Ted Stevens who will be removed by losing the election Tuesday, and others are in the “Vote Bush” club with Chambliss.

Wooten is so stupid he clings to the “association with radicals” lie and it has had no ressonance with American voters. That’s why Wooten is scared into p** in his pants.

Chambliss supports a woman so dumb and inexperience that Chick Fil-a and McDonald’s servers are vetted more thoroughly and longer. She is an embarassement to America and she will be off TV on Wednesday mornning for good except for the repercussions for her in Alaska after the election. Palin’s career is throguh and with goood reason.

The best very short summary of the difference between Democarats and Republicans, each taken to the limit of their philosophy is: Republicans = Fascism; Democrats = Socialism.

Hence the Wall Street Journal is referred to as the Fascist Rag, and the New York Times as the Socialist Rag. The key to a successful government is maintaining a balance between the two. At this point in time we have tilted too far toward Fascism, and need badly to move more in the direction of socialism. We should all vote for Obama, and give him a Democratic House and Senate.

The AJC is not referred to at all, as it is irrelevent in all respects.

John the Contender and Sarah the Subverter limped into these last days hoping against hope. All else had failed, even McCain’s complete apostasy. Their flagging ticket had fallen in the polls, and they were preying for an upset for which there was no precedent.

According to a Gallup report released Monday, there have been only two upsets since 1952: Reagan vs. Carter in 1980 and Bush vs. Gore in 2000. Neither is particularly analogous to the current race.

In 1980, the candidates’ one and only debate was a week before Election Day. Reagan won the debate, and that turned the election. This year, McCain was drubbed in all three presidential debates. In 2000, the lead in the polls flip-flopped constantly. Gore eked out a popular vote win, but didn’t win the Electoral College. This year, McCain hasn’t held the lead in the polls since mid-September. And Obama already has enough states leaning his way to handily win the Electoral College, plus he’s either tied or leading in the toss-up states.

So McCain’s final volley was to brand Barack Obama a socialist, assail his associations and rile up the rurals. For that to work, everything else would have to fall in McCain’s favor. To say that it hasn’t is a gross understatement.

Oct. 19: Colin Powell endorses Obama.

Oct. 20: Al Qaeda endorses McCain.

Oct. 22: Sarah Palin gets smacked down for dressing up. (You know it’s hard out here when you primp.)

Oct. 23: The candidates personally reach out to a campaign volunteer who claimed that a black man had carved a backward “B” on her face during a mugging to punish her for not supporting Obama. The volunteer later confesses to fabricating the story. Scars all around.

Oct. 24: $22,800 for makeup. Wow.

Oct. 25: McCain’s people begin to turn on Palin, making her sound like the title character of a bad movie: “Whack job,” “diva,” “gone rogue.”

Oct. 28: The Pew Center reports that Obama leads among early voters by a margin of 19 percent.

Oct. 29: Obama buys a chunk of prime-time and broadcasts a love-in to himself, then he has a late-night rally with his former grudge buddy Bill Clinton. It looks like a coronation. McCain responds on Larry King in a room that looks like the lobby of a funeral parlor.

Throughout October: The Republican Egghead Revolt: the party’s highbrows huff that the appeal of the Grand Old Party needs to be broader than the audience of the Grand Ole Opry. Many defect to Obama.

And there you have it — a calamity of missteps and misfortunes.

Of course, anything could happen. There are three days left. McCain could still win. And, a drunk man wearing a blindfold could get a puck past Marc-André Fleury.

Yeah, unlikely. It’s a wrap. Fade to black.

Wooten is beating the same dead old horse, that Obama is a mystery man. Let’s get clear. Wooten is a mystery man. We wonder how somoene with such a child’s grasp of politics, history, and particularly the law is being paid real money by Cox Newspapers. We have dissected Obama for 2 years. No campaign has been longer or more thoroguh. Wooten thinks you’re really stupid. That’s why he’s trying to scare you with “Obama the boogie man will get you” typical McPalin politics of denegration that has no resonnance which is why Wooten is begging that there won’t be a 60 person majority.

Wooten’s patrician and very foolish arrogance actually wrote a snoopy dance column about 5 weeks ago. I guarantee you Wooten has taken that absurd column and tucked and pounded it into an area only his proctologist has seen.

Obama reached a sound conclusion we didn’t need to hemorrhage 3 trillion dollars, kill 5000 Americans, hundreds of thousands of lives of Iraqis and make 40,000 orthopedically and neurologically crippled individuals.

Note that absurd McCain and Wooten cannot analyze why dividing Iraq into three (it’s going to stay that way no matter what we do) is not a sound stable idea. The Kurds and Central Iraq are on the verge of war this minute. Wooten makes broad sweeping assertions but has never done the reading or research to back them up. Reading Wooten is like reading the essay of an eighth grader. It’s pathetically devoid of facts to butress his mantra.

Obama is an excellent judge of character, and his staff is going to make Bush’s parade of nepotism and incompetence look like crap.

Wooten’s bosses wouldn’t hire the moron Palin to sweep the floors at AJC and he knows it. I will say Wooten’s columns are as confused and superficial as Palin though. They have that through the prism of a 3rd grader feel.

Terms like legislative sunami which is plaguerized by the way, are the product of a completely lazy superficial mind.

We have just experienced the packing of the federal courts. Republican judges make up 2/3 of the federal appellate judiciary. Where the hell has Wooten been? I’ll tell you. He doesn’t know anything about the federal courts which is why he won’t tell you what I just did.

Appeals Courts Pushed to Right by Bush Choices

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/29/us/29judges.html?scp=1&sq=federal%20courts%20bush%20named&st=cse

“On Oct. 6, Mr. Bush pointed with pride to his record at a conference sponsored by the Cincinnati chapter of the Federalist Society, the elite network for the conservative legal movement. He noted that he had appointed more than a third of the federal judiciary expected to be serving when he leaves office, a lifetime-tenured force that will influence society for decades and that represents one of his most enduring accomplishments. While a two-term president typically leaves his stamp on the appeals courts — Bill Clinton appointed 65 judges, Mr. Bush 61 — Mr. Bush’s judges were among the youngest ever nominated and are poised to have an unusually strong impact.

Republican-appointed judges, most of them conservatives, are projected to make up about 62 percent of the bench next Inauguration Day, up from 50 percent when Mr. Bush took office. They control 10 of the 13 circuits, while judges appointed by Democrats have a dwindling majority on just one circuit.

David M. McIntosh, a co-founder and vice-chairman of the Federalist Society, said the nation’s appeals courts were now more in line with a conservative judicial ideology than at any other time in memory.

About 46 percent of Mr. Bush’s appeals court judges are Federalist Society associates, according to an Alliance for Justice review.

A study in 2006 confirmed that the judges appointed by Republicans beginning with the Reagan administration are, as the Federalist Society’s president, Eugene Meyer, put it, “a very different type of judge.”

The study, overseen by Cass Sunstein, a Harvard Law School professor who is now an adviser to Mr. Obama, analyzed whether judges voted for a liberal or a conservative outcome in 20,000 appeals court cases. It found that as a group the appellate judges appointed by Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard M. Nixon and Gerald Ford voted for a conservative outcome in 52 percent of their cases. Mr. Clinton’s judges had an identical record.

By contrast, the appeals court judges appointed by Reagan and the two Presidents Bush took the conservative position in 62 percent of cases. And that number was larger in certain ideologically charged areas, like abortion, affirmative action, environmental protection and whether states have sovereign immunity from federal lawsuits.”

US forces will soon be in Iraq illegally and President Obama will withdraw them expeditiously and stop the 3 trillion dollar hemorrhage. When they leave, the frigging lights will still not be on and Iraq will continue to horde their billions in US banks because the Republicans have been consummately stupid.

A libertarian vote is a great vote because Chambliss will be defeated in a runoff and we will have terrific representation in Jim Martin. I haven’t seen specific knocks from small minded Wooten on Martin because he knows he is an excellent person to replace the dead wood Bush vote Chambliss on Senate Judiciary.

Compared to the moron Bush, Bill Clinton’s administration was a genius administration. It left us with a surplus; Bush is hemorrhaging millions.

Sarah Palin speaks on the First Amendment by Glenn Greenwald

    http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/

“Sarah Palin speaks on the First Amendment (updated below - Update II - Update III)

Somehow, in Sarah Palin’s brain, it’s a threat to the First Amendment when newspapers criticize her negative attacks on Barack Obama. This is actually so dumb that it hurts:

In a conservative radio interview that aired in Washington, D.C. Friday morning, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin said she fears her First Amendment rights may be threatened by “attacks” from reporters who suggest she is engaging in a negative campaign against Barack Obama.

Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama’s associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks. Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate’s free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.

“If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations,” Palin told host Chris Plante, “then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”

Maureen Dowd recently made an equally stupid comment when she complained that her First Amendment rights were being violated by the McCain campaign’s refusal to allow her on their campaign plane.

The First Amendment is actually not that complicated. It can be read from start to finish in about 10 seconds. It bars the Government from abridging free speech rights. It doesn’t have anything to do with whether you’re free to say things without being criticized, or whether you can comment on blogs without being edited, or whether people can bar you from their private planes because they don’t like what you’ve said.

If anything, Palin has this exactly backwards, since one thing that the First Amendment does actually guarantee is a free press. Thus, when the press criticizes a political candidate and a Governor such as Palin, that is a classic example of First Amendment rights being exercised, not abridged.

This isn’t only about profound ignorance regarding our basic liberties, though it is obviously that. Palin here is also giving voice to the standard right-wing grievance instinct: that it’s inherently unfair when they’re criticized. And now, apparently, it’s even unconstitutional.

According to Palin, what the Founders intended with the First Amendment was that political candidates for the most powerful offices in the country and Governors of states would be free to say whatever they want without being criticized in the newspapers. In the Palin worldview, the First Amendment was meant to ensure that powerful political officials such as herself would not be “attacked” in the papers. Is it even possible to imagine more breathtaking ignorance from someone holding high office and running for even higher office?

UPDATE: The Constitution also guarantees freedom of association. Thus, by Palin’s “reasoning,” when newspapers — or Palin herself — criticize Obama for his associations, they’re threatening his constitutional rights.

UPDATE II: Brian Beutler says that Palin has a “third grader’s understanding of Constitutional rights” and asks:

If the conservative media convinces enough voters that Barack Obama is a Muslim, does that violate his right to freedom of religion?

And: isn’t Palin violating the First Amendment right to a free press by criticizing the media and convincing her followers that newspapers are biased and corrupt? For the last eight years, we’ve had an administration that has had pure contempt for the Constitution. Would it be worse to replace them with people who seem never to have read it?

UPDATE III: Jonathan Schwarz has the audio of Palin, issuing her constitutional warning, here. It’s actually more painful to hear it than read it, because you can hear her thinking about the analysis she’s making as it leaves her mouth, and she clearly believes she’s actually making an important and profound point about First Amendment rights.”

    The Biker and The Lion

A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion’s cage.

Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A New York Times reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.’

The biker replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.’ The reporter says, ‘Well, I’m a journalist from the New York Times, and tomorrow’s paper will have this story on the front page…. So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have? ’

    The biker replies, ‘I’m a U. S. Marine and a Republican.’

The following morning the biker buys The New York Times to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on front page:

If you truly put your country first you would use your platform to tell the truth about the present reality. The problem with Republicans is not their conservatism. I am a long-time Democrat and hold both fiscally conservative and socially liberal viewpoints on major issues. The problem lies with the untruths that your party espouses, which causes you to come across as phony, desperate, unethical, divisive and insulting. You think that Americans are stupid! The reason Senator McCain is struggling in this election is not just because of his disconnect with the Republican “Base”, “W“‘s shadow or selecting Governor Palin. This has been one of the most lengthy Democratic Presidential campaigns in recent memory. The American people have gotten a chance to compare the two candidates and it is obvious why they are leaning towards Senator Obama. They have more information and have had more time, especially during the Democratic primaries, to form an opinion. More educated voters, and I’m not necessarily talking about formal education, seek a better quality leader and more mature, diverse and inclusive political party. YOUR party has proven that it will not help lift America up.

Wooten has no concept of how much damage that the Bush administration has done to this country.

He has no concept of how much money has been wasted in the very recent bailouts by Paulson and the Republican administration. How stupid to give billions to insurance companies and investment banks with a line growing for handouts including Chrysler and GM with no conditions. Paulson and his five assistants all come from Goldman Sachs, and it defies credibility that they would craft such a stupid plan.

What never fails to amaze me about Wooten’s columns decrying the possibility of electing liberals is that he has long experience with conservatism and he knows what it leads to. Georgia is one of the most conservative states in the country, and, like most conservative states, it is a squalid hole. The conservative policies of Georgia have led to an uneducated, shiftless, unproductive population characterized by high rates of infant mortality, spouse and child abuse, out of wedlock births, teen pregnancy, alcoholism, and obesity? Obama, Pelosi and Reid advocate policies different from those that have made Georgia into the squalid cesspool of misery and degradation that it is. Instead of adhering to policies like those that have made Georgia into a failed state, why not try policies that have led to policies like those prevailing in California, which hav led to well educated, productive populations whose superior initiative and industry make it possible for them to pay the taxes necessary to finance the federal subsidies and handouts on which more conservative states depend to stave off the famine that would ensue if they were to depend on the initiative and industry of their own citizens?

Jim, you make absolutely no sense. Make an actual argument. Please. You point to nothing in Chambliss’ character, policy positions or accomplishments which should merit anyone’s support. He has been a “yes man” for a terribly incompetent administration. Your entire argument relies on recycling the same tired old right wing arguments used against all Democrats. You’re simply rehashing them, implying, if not outright insisting, that Obama is un-American; that any person who votes for him must be a Socialist; that anyone who dares question right wing orthodoxy on anything must be weak and delusional.

Wooten is very comfortable wallowing in the swamp of uneducated, shiftless, unproductive population characterized by high rates of infant mortality, spouse and child abuse, out of wedlock births, teen pregnancy, alcoholism, and obesity.

It’s the unedcuated meme that pays him a living writing columns based on a very low reading comprehension and actual time spent reading and researching his columns.

The “columns” can be written in seconds because they are the recycling and plaguerism of old worn out Right Wingnut aphorisms and retreaded policies that are total failures.

Wooten has yet to and cannot write a column differentiating McCain’s and moron’s economic program (what is it?) from Bush/Chambliss failed economics.

He cannot deliniate how defense is compatent under McCain or Bush.

He cannot be explicit on how a “surge” is working when it is based on a flimsy house of cards that pains Sunis to stop insurgency and postpones every important political decision. Wooten cannot say how he is going to get the electricity on in Iraq after 6 years, nor what he is going to do with the 3 million refugees from Iraq, many of whom are women with children who have lost their husbands to bombs or errant US fire.

Wooten has no answer to the dozens of civil rights violations by the Bush administration.

Wooten has no answer to why the bailouts are throwing billions away with no accountability whatsoever complements of Paulson and Bernanky, Phil Graham, and the totally overrated failure Greenspan.

Wooten has no answer as to how the American infrastructure has been neglected, or Rethugs have a policy of total oil dependance that is bleeding this country.

In short, voting Chambliss or McCain and moron is a losing proposition that has been demonstrated now for years. Of course Americans aren’t going to do that.

Indeed, Woodenhead does wollow in the swamp of the uneducated: the wsj today notes that the 3,000 political appointees of Bushie are failing to find jobs in the private sector. Clinton’s appointee’s were highly successful in finding ceo and such positions, but Bushie’s boys and girls, to quote a head hunter, are singularly unqualified for high executive positions. The sec of ecucation announced that she desired a ceo slot, and a head hunter presented her to a company looking fer a ceo. The company declined to even look at her, saying she had no ceo experience, and her education was of questionable value…of 3,000 political hacks, fewer than ten have found slots, mostly at levels two or more below their state objective…yes indeed, singularly unqualified….

Fiscal conservatives? The largest deficits in our history have come under the Republican rule. Bush1, Reagan, and Bush2. Where would our economy be now without the oil companies price gouging in the past three years, to the tune of over $150 billion in pure profit, with Exxon alone in the past two quarters stuffing $26 billion plus in the bank, all supported by Republican economics. Tax breaks for individual and corporate success, while strapping the consumer and the small business man. As proven by the Republican economic plan, keep the rich getting richer faster and the public, not so well represented by the government, in their place. Saxby has supported this plan and has reaped his benefits, let’s see if we can put America back on track for the good of the country as a whole, not just the priviledged few.
In foreign policy, Iraq is already three separate entities with the Suni, Kurds and S** all claiming stake to their own geographical areas. And Palin saying we can’t retreat from wars almost won, even Gen. Petraeus has said he wouldn’t use the word victory and the commanders have said these wars can’t be won militarily, but McCain thinks we should stay for maybe even a hundred years Finally, hanging aroud with terorists. We know Obama served on a board with Bill Ayres, they were both chosen for that board by Republicans and there were other Republicans on the same board. I was in the military, yet when I came home I protested the Viet Nam War, not to the extreme, but if those folks my age remember there were more people protesting than supporting the War. Then there is G Gordon Liddy who broke into the Democratic headquarters during Watergate, planned to bomb the Brookings Institue to destroy evidence, told the public to shoot ATF officers in the head if they came to their houses to investigate, wanted War protestors arrested and deported, as a young man, being of German descent, followed the teachings of the Nazis giving those up after becoming a “Christian”, and is a felon who was sent to jail for 20 years for his crimes and served 5 plus before being pardoned. This is a convicted felon who supports McCain by fundraisers, has radio shows speaking for McCain and McCain has said “he truly admires” . Gotta love that Fox network of distortion of the facts. The latest one is the Columbia professor, that Obama attended an event where he was there. Now it is true they know each other and the man is a Palestinian, but both have said they disagree on alot of general principles. Obama and Ayres did donate $90,000, when they were on that same board, to a study group in which the man was involved. There is one thing to remember McCain, as the head of International Republican Committee donated $488,000 to the same man, Rashid Kalidhi. It would be nice if any of you on the “right” would tell the whole story, or at least get your supposed “facts” correct. Also, that protest vote that got us Bill Clinton, got us a balanced budget with a surplus, the largest growth of jobs in history, and a raise in our personal incomes. But your “right” let’s stick with that good old Republican economic philosophy, maybe we can bankrupt the country.

consequences that may take decades, if not generations, to undo

We have those already, thanks to the neocons who’ve been in charge for the past 8 years. The far right that’s been running the show thinks “compromise” means “do it our way or don’t do it at all,” an attitude that’s stalled the government, destroyed our economy, and undone decades of progress in this country. The Republicans have become so focused on trying to make Pelosi, Reid, and Obama look bad that they’ve argued and even voted against their own bills!

Having a filibuster-proof Democratic majority may not be an ideal situation for every issue, but nothing meaningful will get done as long as the wingnuts have anything to say about it.

Perhaps shortly the filibuster, an anti-democratic maneuver in a country where the majority is supposed to rule, will be irrelevant in a year or two.

Word on the Hill is that Harry Reid is working to replace Robert C. Byrd, one of the champions of the filibuster rule, as Appropriations Committee Chairman. That’s the beginning, I suspect, of the end of the filibuster.

No where in the Constitution is there a requirement of a super-majority in either chamber to pass legislation. If the filibuster gets jettisoned, as Bill Frist threatened to do in order to get two Supreme Court judicial nominees confirmed, then it won’t matter whether the Democratic majority is 60 or 51.

Anyway, it’s time for the Senate to come into the 21st Century. The arcane filibuster rule, a relic of the last century, needs to go. It essentially gives a minority veto power over legislation supported by the majority. It thus frustrates the will of the people.

In any case, Saxby Chambliss is a disgrace to the State of Georgia. He needs to be defeated, but even if he isn’t, his election may not matter in the near future.

    @Ragnar —

Besides childishly naming “syndromes” (what you know about medicine could go on the head of a pin) you don’t have any cogent points on issues do you?

And instead of this specious vacuous bluster on judicial confirmations, let’s have some facts. Democrats have been infinitely more accomodating to the Bush administration than Rethugs were during the Clinton 8 years:

Since the years in which Republicans pocket filibustered more than 60 of President Clinton’s moderate and qualified judicial nominees and judicial vacancies topped 100, we have cut judicial vacancies by more than half and we reduced circuit court vacancies by almost three-fourths, to 9 throughout the entire country from a high point of 32. When the New York nominees on the Senate Executive Calendar are confirmed, Democrats will have led the Senate to the confirmation of the same number of judges 158 appointed by President Bush as Republicans did, but in a much shorter time.

As these judicial vacancies have fallen under President Bush, Americans have seen the unemployment rate rise to 5.5 percent and trillions of dollars in budget surplus have turned into trillions of dollars of debt. The annual budget deficit is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. When President Bush took office, the price of gas was $1.42 a gallon. Today, it is at an all-time high of over $4.10 a gallon. The nation’s trade deficit widened eight percent in April alone due to the surging gas prices, and is now at its highest level in 13 months. The housing crisis and mortgage crisis threatens the economy.

Dear GA Values @ 3:06, if I thought the veto-proof democrat majority would spend less I would have joined your argument. I don’t. More democrats than republicans voted for the Daschel Agriculture Bill and the Kennedy Education Bill (remember, those stains on GWB all arose when the democrats controlled the Senate.) I derive significantly less grief from Saxbe’s continued presence in the Senate than I do from the democrat majority.

I also think Chad @ 2:36 is wrong about the absolute numbers and percentages of approvals, but I don’t have the links to prove it. Before there was even a bailout, Saxby voted for the biggest social spending program in 40 years, for NCLB, for pork-laden farm, transportation, and energy bills, was leaning toward amnesty and that ban on drilling, until the last 2 issues turned up the heat.

These travesties alone warrant throwing this bum out.

Then came the bailout, in which 90%+ of constitutents were demanding/begging/ pleading for him to return to conservatism and VOTE NO. Many of us pointed out - WE READ THE BILL - that the money and lattitude granted to the Sec. Treasury were unlimited. Since then, ‘poor’ Saxby has had to write a letter protesting that bailout funds are being used to pay bonuses to the banksters and Wall Street con artists.

Chambliss: “The Other Folks Are Voting”?

HP-Via John Cole, the Politico reports on Georgia Sen.

When they get their 401k statements, ‘his side’ becomes ‘their side.’

Seriously, how are y’all going to feel about putting this crook back in office in 6 months when it is revealed that the ’safe’ options in just about every 401k in the land is chock FULL of CDO’s and insurance contracts worth 10 cents on the dollar, knowing that the biggest financial fraud in history was aided by Chambliss?

Just today it was announced that the banks seek bailout of credit card debt, the major annuity issuers are losing 50% of their market value because of doubts that the annuities are funded. Yes, these annuities are the guts of many401k “guaranteed” investment options. A 401k plan I researched today had 80%CDO’s as investments.

Saxby Chambliss has been up to his eyeballs in THEFT from you and me. If you are a saver you are soon to see interest income fall to zero. If you hold stocks and bonds, the market was corrupted during Saxby’s 14 years in DC.

We begged him not to vote for that bailout, citing MORE corruption, but he voted for it anyway. Now at least 10% of the 700 billion is going to pay bonuses to the THIEVES. Do not let it be lost that Bo Chambliss is a lobbyist for these same corrupt interests. Saxby Chambliss is laughing at you.

He AIN’T gonna laugh at me, not after the way I have been after him.

Conservatives, we OWE IT TO OURSELVES AND EACH OTHER to seize the chance to finally bring the GOP back to its principles by defeating Saxby Chambliss.

You do seem to have a problem with Governor Palin’s intellect. Just a little something I thought you might enjoy.

I dropped in on a left-wing blog yesterday (might have been DailyKos, not sure) but all those intelligent lefties were claiming that Governor Palin was lying to the parents of special needs children when she said they, and all students should receive vouchers. She’s lying dammit! private religious schools won’t accept special needs children! One even went on to share a personal exerience of trying to get their special needs child enrolled in one. She’s lying dammit! Disgraceful!.

I’m thinking to myself……..”Surely these highly-intellectual leftist bloggers know that there are private schools for special needs students (admittedly, few and far between) where vouchers can be used. Even if there’s not a private special needs school available, there are many public school systems whose special needs programs excel above and beyond others.

The private school where I’m employed has only begun to accept vouchers. It’s not our goal to hold onto the children — isolating them from typicals. Nope! we work with them up to the point where we are confident that they can be integrated into the public school’s special ed programs. We recommend those that have an exemplary record in the field. They take their vouchers and go.

Know-it-all leftists don’t seem to know as much as they think they know. No! No! No!

Well, MJ, what about the Bush/Rethuglicon legacy? How long will that take to undo? Decades? Centuries? I don’t want to wait that long. Jimmy, you and your bigoted cohorts have lived in the wilderness for far too many years. Come late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning good and decent people will introduce you to the marvelous light of the new promised land! You and your bigoted cohorts are indeed uncompromising with your fellow Americans. Thanks for telling everyone that you are uncompromising. Secondly, you have railed for years about our do-nothing Congress, aways failing to mention that the progress was always blocked by the bigoted and narrow-minded republicans congressional members. Now the people want a do-something Congress and hopefully will elect the Congress that they want. And your answer is to elect blockers to filibuster any progress, to stop the will of the people. Since when has voting your conscience, your heart been “playing petty games”. How is sending 100% ideologues, you call them “purists”, to a deliberative body, the Congress ever going to get things done? Anyone with common sense knows that is a recipe for gridlock, do-nothing, failure! Hopefully next Tuesday we won’t just beat back the bigotry of the Southern strategy implemented more than 40 years ago by Richard Nixon (hum, you can tell a lot about a man by the company he keeps),but defeat it and bury it. Saxby, you bigot, welcome home!

Financial giants getting injections of federal cash owed their executives more than $40 billion for past years’ pay and pensions as of the end of 2007, a Wall Street Journal analysis shows.

The government is seeking to rein in executive pay at banks getting federal money, and a leading congressman and a state official have demanded that some of them make clear how much they intend to pay in bonuses this year.

But overlooked in these efforts is the total size of debts that financial firms receiving taxpayer assistance previously incurred to their executives, which at some firms exceed what …

Sorry Jim, but the scare tactics are not going to work this cycle. The people are mad as heck at the “Let them eat cake” attitude of the past 8 years, and are going to “vote the rascals out.” Your Greedy Old Party has enjoyed a period of total control during this 8 year period, stacking the Supreme Court with arguably tho e most conservative judges in history, given tax cuts to the wealthiest 2 percent, run up an incredible deficit that would make Reagan spin in his tomb, engaged our forces in a war that was unnecessary, alienated our friends and allies around the world, engaged in class warfare against the middle class and working poor, and you want to save your friend Ole Saxby?

Just be glad Americans never took to the guillotine, cause your friends are about to wander in the wilderness for a while, so they can relearn what small government and fiscal responsibility means - seems they forgot.

To whoever the intelligent person is who thinks I smoke crack. Ever heard of the veto. Bush1 and Reagan vetoed many Bills to keep their agenda moving. Clinton vetoed Bills also, many more once the Republicans took over the House, Thanks Newt, to keep his agenda moving. Presently though, Bushie vetoed none through his 1st four years, one in his next two years, and nine since the 2006 elections. So I guess he kept his program moving really well, but that’s OK, blame it on the Democrats. We certainly wouldn’t want to give credit where credit is due.

I have never disagreed with you but Saxby has to go. If the Dems get 55-56 Senators, it will be filibuster proof as Saxby and Lindsey Graham will conjure up some sort of “compromise” that gives the libs whatever they want and “cover” for the Republicans. Saxby has to go and then in 6 years, if a conservative is nominated by the Republicans, we will replace Martin. Martin is terible, but I will never vote for a phoney conservatieve again to preserve the Republican Party. I have already voted for Martin (early), the only Democrat I ever voted for other then Zell.

Why would he repeat that oblivious line about the fundamentals of the economy being strong, saying it once in August and again in September?

Why would he threaten to not show up for a debate (after denouncing Obama for not rising to the challenge of joint town halls) so that he could go to Washington and play the shining knight if he had no plan and no prospect for success?

Why did he allow his campaign to become a host body for a Bush virus looking for someplace to infect? After working so hard to erase the image of what Senate aides called “the Bush hug,” McCain inexplicably hugged Bushies, surrounding himself with mercenaries trained in the same Rovian tactics that tore up his family — and tore apart his campaign — in 2000.

Well, I been down to the Church of Holiness this a.m. to pray that God will make people elect old man McCain and Saxby, but I don’t know if he listened to me. I got this awful feeling. Anyhow, on Tuesday the Rev. Postlewaite is going to meet us at the church so we can all march off together to vote for the Republican ticket. He ain’t as good at getting us riled up to vote as the Rev. Jim Bob Buice was, but he’ll have to do. I ain’t telling that I already voted twice and three times if you count the missus ballot that I filled out for her.

And yesterday was just a bad, bad day. My beloved Dawgs lost big-time, and I got this awful feeling in the pit of my belly. I always root for GA. It’s the only colledge where most of its fans ain’t never been to colledge. Anyway, the team got a real problem. At any one time 10 or 12 of the players are locked up in the Athens jail. Which makes it hard to play good.

Anyhow, it’s getting close to time to take the missus to Ryans for Sunday lunch. I hope they are stocked up good, because she don’t miss much when she goes thru the line.

    November 2, 2008 10:46 AM | Link to this

It seems to me that the government(we citizens) are responsible for eliminating the deficit and stabilizing our economy. The only way to do that is reduce spending(funded programs), increase taxes(income to the government) or both. If we reduce programs, which ones do we eliminate. If we increase taxes, where do we do it.

Obama has told us what he intends to do. He will increase taxes for those making over $200,000, reduce taxes on those making less than $200,000 and perform a line by line review of funded programs( the budget). Lately, he has said that he may not be able to institute some of his programs because of the deficit. He may have to look at additional tax changes also.

McCain has offered to decrease taxes while freezing new funding for programs which implies that he will eliminate programs. He intends to stay in Iraq, so he will not eliminate the $110 billion line item for the war. The question remains as to what programs he intends to eliminate and how can he eliminate the deficit without increasing taxes.

The issues are clear to me. Our economy takes precedence over any budget expenditure to foreign governments. We cannot continue to fund the policing of the world. We must place America first including a strong committment to Defense.

    Thats why I voted for Obama/Biden .

Lets talk about Chambliss, tax policy and a few economic facts. You need to be willing to step outside rhetoric and do a little research. Just a little. Below is information from economists at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Go to their web-site. I promise, the information there is not “smoked-glass and mirrors”, or “voodoo” economics. Just get some facts to feed your brain and check the accuracy of what is given below. Or, don’t and just read what is below.

The effect of the reduced tax rates that began with Reagan and were accelerated by Bush with help from Chambliss, is to create the largest concentration of wealth since 1929. 66% of income growth between 2002 and 2006 went to the top 10%; 34% went to the bottom 90%. (Now that is wealth re-distribution! How much of it did you get?) One third of U.S. household wealth is held by the top 1% of households and another third is held by the next top 9%. In other words, the top 10% of households hold 60% of household wealth, and it is growing. This economy has not created so much wealth that everyone is getting some of it. As of 2007, there was virtually no growth in median incomes since 2000. If we keep doing that there won’t be a middle class left.

Raw capitalism is not a panacea for society’s ills - it is an economic system that assumes each person acts in his own self interest. As we have seen in the current financial meltdown, markets do not self regulate and ultimately, greed overcomes common sense. It takes government regulation to limit abuses. It takes tax policy to balance against the over accumulation of wealth and keep the market functioning. (It takes other government policies, too, but I will let you research that.)

I have watched repeatedly the Chambliss ad that shows a small business owner saying he could expand his business and add jobs, but won’t because he is afraid Obama will raise his taxes. What I want to say to that business man is that if someone doesn’t change the tax policy, he won’t have a market place in which he can sell the goods or services he provides – there won’t be enough people with enough income. What I want to say to the politicians is that if small businesses are the engines of job creation then, apparently, they produce jobs which don’t pay very well.

All American’s will rue in the future our unwillingness to be taxed in the present to pay for the War on Terror. The President Bush, Chambliss (and before them, Reagan), belief that cutting taxes would ultimately lead to enough tax income to pay for defense spending has not happened. I have no faith that it will happen by continuing the current tax cuts and certainly not by adding more tax cuts to high income individuals. We all should be willing to have taxes increased to pay for this war. Certainly we can live higher on the hog if we keep our taxes low now, but our children and grandchildren will be eating pig’s feet because of it.

Neither Chambliss nor Martin has really looked at the national debt and addressed the problem of the growing debt. Maybe now is not the time because broad tax increases during a recession are counter productive. But, when economic times improve, and they will despite Republican or Democrat tax plans, the time will come when we need to raise taxes broadly to pay for our security. I don’t think Chambliss will have the courage to actually increase taxes when we clearly need to.

Chambliss? No, I don’t think so. The next time you are moved to applaud the politician who promises to keep cutting taxes, consider the debt you are leaving your children and grandchildren.

Can you name one economic initiative from Team McCain that is different from George Bush and Hank Paulson? I didn’t think so.

Notice that on not one Sunday talk show was the Hurculean Republican effort in about 12 states to vote cage and voter supress and take hundreds of thousands of voters off the rolls. The Republican Secretary of State in Colorado is facing contempt charges right now for disobeying the court.

Everyone of these battles in the courts have been lost by Republicans and I’ve named them specifically in previous comments.

Moron Karen Handel and her Moron Attorneys General even filed a futile breif on October 29 2 days after they were ordered to give every vote the opportunity to count. Wooten doesn’t realize this, because Wooten doesn’t know how/where to read the briefs/motions.

We know the Wooten bigots have been calling Obama a lot of names, but get used to the one that will apply: Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States.

By 8PM Tuesday, contrary to nitwit Elizabeth Hasselback’s prediction, you will know that Obama has won Indiana and Virginia and McPalin’s path to 270 will have been completely blocked.

The stupid 527 ad linking Obama to Wright in Ohio, Penn, and Florida for $2.5 million will only get more votes for Obama because people know it has nothing to do with governing this country.

Note the Dems didn’t run adds showing the video where the witch was purportedly removed from Moron Palin. Te witch hunting preacher didn’t exorcize the witch from Moron Palin successfully.

Rick Wilson, the consultant who made the ad, says “this is the base giving a collective direction to where the campaign should have gone a long time ago.” It remains to be seen whether this will actually help John McCain, or just feeds the wingnuts what they want to hear.

Moron Palin repeatedly lied and said she would release her medical records, but is refusing to do so to the end.

Historically every VP and Presidential candidate but McCain and Palin have done so in the US.

The Republican administration gave Goldman Sachs a $9.8 billion bail out and they are paying out bonuses of $11 billion.

It’s truly vital to remove a miserable bottom-feeder whose blind ambition would lead him to impugn the honor of a decorated veteran, one who gave his legs and his arm for his country, in a war he should not have been forced to fight, forced by people like ol’ Saxby.

He’s a blot on democracy. I hope he enjoys retirement.

I was a registered republican until 2004 when I went Independent and cast a vote against another four years of Bush. In the last four years, my former party has made me so ashamed that I find myself voting wholeheartedly for Obama. A party that has become wholly defined by its rejection of anything other than straight, white, Christian, male values, and that is intollerant at best and blatantly racist in my opinion is bad enough. Add to that a completely reckless approach to globalization and national security, plus complete disregard for the country’s fiscal health, and I’ve really had enough. Throw Saxby out with the bathwater and show the country that Georgia has entered the 21st century.

    From Glenn Greenwald:

“Bush has not commanded approval from a majority of the nation since early 2005, making him arguably the most disliked president since polling on the question began in the 1930s. A Washington Post-ABC News tracking poll last week put Bush’s approval rating at 24 percent and found that McCain had made little headway in separating himself from Bush or his policies.”

The red blood of the Baracuda and the blue blood of the old man married to the two hundred millionairess is swirlin’ in the water goshdarnit and it tastes delicious.

The arrogant Wootens, the Dick Williams’ and the Phil Kents, and very probably the Bush clone Saxby Chambliss are going to be put on their butts come Tuesday night.

These arrogant people did everything they could to steal our votes spewing platitudes like “we gotta win in Iraq” with not even a child’s understanding of the dynamics in Iraq.

There has been a non-stop effort to stomp on the Constitution and eviscerate it since Bush and the prick Cheney took office, and it’s being rejected this week.

Chambliss was in full support of the disaster to bail out any multibillion dollar company that is paying billions in bonuses next month with your hard earned money. Wooten thinks this is fantastic.

Make sure you vote to remove Chambliss and get the Republican scum pruned from the federal agencies in this government.

Karen Handel tried to steal your vote on the grounds one initial in your name didn’t match on multiple lists. She and the AG of Georgia violated Section 5 of the the Voting Rights Act by being so arrogant they refused to preclear their failed attempts to vote cage.

Wooten and his ilk view themselves as arristocrats despite the fact that they have an elementary school child’s grasp of government and the law because they are simply too lazy to read.

Wooten is taking welfare from Cox Newspapers.

It’s truly vital that we repeal the egregious illegal Patriot Act.

On Wednesday, Judge Henry Kennedy Jr. (AJC doens’t report it because it’s just too hard for them to understand) ordered the Justice Department to produce White House memos that provide the legal basis for the Bush administration’s post-Sept. 11 warrantless wiretapping program.

It will be appealed to the D.C. Circuit and the Supreme Court no doubt by either party (several are suing DOJ).

President Obama’s team will review the egregious cases pushed by the government and the people trying to foreclose your liberties in court will be removed from DOJ and all current litigation will be reviewed for stances destuctive to your civil liberties.

The jack booted Wootens have tried to wiretap every communication, email, in the US.

So let me get this straight… Chamblis gets rewarded for his years of sitting up in DC and doing nothing with reelection JUST to keep the Democrats from getting a filibuster proof majority? Conservatives have slipped to a pathetic level. Maybe you all should take an election cycle or two off and retool your whole perspective. Something is broken in the conservative movement. And slapping a bandaid on it by reelecting a useless Senator is simply proof.

When I see Wooten “begging” to keep a good ole boy in office (and for that matter members of the government that brought us this mess), it lets me know that they are frightened that a government for the people, by the people is more scarier than all the lies and fear that they’ve presented to the public. Goodbye, Saxby. You’re yesterday. So Long, Jim, your weak analysis of things are no longer needed. Oh, and take your partisan and misguided politics with you. It is very important that we get a moral and compassionate man such as Obama in office. End the tyranny of the Bush regime. I am told Obama is a good and upstanding man by his supports and the media. Full of integrity and true to his convictions. He truly shows these qualities by continually supporting the right to choose to pith, cut-up, or burn with a solution defenseless individuals, fetuses for the p.c., that just so happen to be in the womb. Up until you “pop out”, he, as the moral and compassionate messiah, is good to go with these measures. He will obviously use his moral compass, compassion, and intelligence to work in our best interests also as that is all he can do as the choosen one.

“Looking at the comments written on the website of my local newspaper, I see the effect of twenty years of right-wing media, the cultivation of outright cultists.

The writers are absolutely convinced that ACORN is carrying out massive election fraud, that Obama’s birth certificate is a forgery and he’s not an American citizen, that the Wall Street debacle is due solely to the Democrats (especially Barney Frank) insisting on giving loans to poor people, and that black people will riot against white people if Obama is elected. Again and again, they repeat the same lies in the same language, such as claiming that McCain’s rallies are smaller because “his supporters have jobs” or insisting that all Obama supporters are “deadbeats looking for a handout.” I can get a pretty good idea of what the radio jocks and Fox News are talking about that day, simply by noting the avalanche of comments on the paper’s website and seeing the same talking points repeated in message after message.

These writers’ response to having the lies of the right-wing pundits debunked is simply to repeat the lies more vehemently, with a lot of gratuitous (not to mention misspelled and ungramatical) insults thrown in.

Their attitude unfortunately reminds me of the mean and ignorant types who have served as the “muscle” for fascist political groups throughout history and around the world. What will they do with their fear and hatred if Obama wins the election? Who will try to channel it, and to what ends? — pdxtran, Minneapolis” This comment is particularly apropos for all the Republican comments on every Opinion column in this newspaper.

There are/were a lot of republicans who are really democrats dressed up as republicans. You know who they are! If the marxixt Obama wins then republicans will dress up as democrats and run for office. This not nuclear science. However, conservatives have lost the true meaning of being conservative. I don’t like seeing a party with a 60 seat majority in the Senate (if it had to be one, full disclosure, I’d prefer the Democrats). But if that 41st Republican seat goes to Saxby Chambliss, I’m all for a 60 seat majority. On some issues, Chambliss at least isn’t always a blind arch conservative. However, Saxby has run some of the most disgusting campaigns I’ve ever seen. Chambliss embodies the horrible views people have of politicians. He’ll do anything to get elected, from degrading his opponent to outright racism. I’ve never met the man, but he’s run multiple campaigns that prove he’s an awful human being.

Saxby has ignored his constituents, betrayed his base, harmed his state and his nation. If his previous voting record were not enough, the energy bill that he “reached across the aisle and came up with” should be enough to convince anyone that Martin certainly could do no worse.

I am very much a conservative, but there is no way we should return Saxby to Washington, better to have an uber liberal Martin for six years and then send someone with principles to represent us. IMO, Saxby is worse than worthless, and labeling him RINO is an insult to RINOS.

Barack Obama’s close friend from Chicago is Rashid Khalidi, the head of middle east studies at Columbia U. Obama’s friend, Rashid Khalidi was instrumental in bringing Iranian mad man mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia U. Khalidi raised money for Obama when he ran for the US House. Khalidi was also a member of the PLO press corps back in Beirut Leb. in the 70’s. The PLO has many umbrella Muslim terror groups that seek Israel’s destruction. Barack Obama chose this man as his friend. A man’s choice of friends is a barometer to his soul and intentions.

News Flash: Saxby is in the pocket of the rich. He supported the onion growers and chicken processors desire for a “guest worker” program in their quest for cheap Mexican labor and stood against immigration reform that would be fair and provide a dignified alternative. Because many of those poor people have little choice and will work for near slave wages, it is un American to allow such exploitation, even if the exploited are willing due to poor alternatives. If we are going to truly help these folks, let’s do it and not choose the side of exploitation. Saxby is a pimp and is only interested in maintaining domination for those who exploit others and have earned little themselves. Some things never change.

Mystery man? Obama has been in a spotlight for over two years. Every interview he ever gave, every bit of audio and video, has been scrutinized in depth. And the worst things that have been found out about him is….

he served on a board with a recognized expert on education. (and what about McCain palling around with a convicted felon who tells people how to kill federal officers? Dont hear about that do we Jimbo?)

he wants to ‘spread the wealth’. I guess Jimbo wants to ‘concentrate the wealth’ since thats the only other alternative. [idiot] Thats whats happened the last few years. Hows that workin out folks?
