Hacking Palin
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Ever since John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, the left has been wild with rage and frustration. The woman simply drives them up the wall. The old guy, they had measured: Run against him as a Bush clone, goad him into over-reacting, prompting a display of ill temper, and count on a few senior moments to win Barack Obama the coronation they are convinced he deserves.
With Palin, they’re grasping for the stuff — the material, the appeal, the line of attack — to bring her down. Dig in. The dirt-diggers are out in full force. Hackers broke into the Yahoo! e-mail account used for official business and distributed on the Internet personal messages — nothing consequential, but personal — that they stole from it.
“This is a shocking invasion of the governor’s privacy and a violation of law,” the McCain campaign responded in a written statement. “The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them.”
The spin from this is not that sleazy political operatives are so unnerved by the prospect that Palin lit a fire under Republicans and is drawing more women and Independents to McCain that they’re willing to break the law in digging for dirt. Oddly enough, the spin is that — as the Associated Press reports — “the disclosure Wednesday raises new questions about the propriety of the Palin administration’s use of nongovernment e-mail accounts to conduct state business.”
If Palin survives the frantic efforts to trash her, she’ll clearly be tough enough to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office. The Left really is desperate to break this woman.

Just who is John McCain? That is my biggest question.
I fear he has completely capitulated to the “the Republican Machine”. If elected, will he revert to the real John McCain or will he continue on with this charade? Because believe me, it is quite the charade. Before he chose this Palin woman as his VP, I had comfort in either man becoming President. McCain had somewhat proven himself as above the party BS, had shown to have a more reality based view point than the current buffoons in the White House. Now I just do not know what to think. John McCain is the “Incredible Hulk” and I do not mean that in a good way, you won’t like him when he is angry.
I agree with Jay on the choosing of Palin as someone that the blanks can be filled in as one sees fit. I will go one step further though. I believe she is the party’s hedge bet. I think they see McCain as old and cancer stricken and she is a way to get a back door President that can be completely manipulated, another Bush, a little too dumb to even notice the maneuvering.
Be afraid America, be very, very afraid.

Good morning all. I partially disagree with our genial host this morning. While I agree the loony left has been on a feeding frenzy, manufacturing lies about Mrs. Palin and her family, I think the insanity has mostly passed now. While none of our moonbats here have yet apologized for even the obvious lies – parentage of the newborn, for example – they have begun to rein in the crazy stuff. I perceive the motivation is more political than moral – they realized they were pushing the center to the right with the crazy lies, and thus arrested their bizarre stories.
To my point: I think our leftist friends will agree that the criminal invasion of Mrs. Palin’s privacy ought to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Republishers of the stolen private materials ought to be prosecuted, as there is no good faith “public policy” angle to the stolen materials. Evil deserves condemnation, and I would respectfully ask our leftist friends to affirm the common standard.

“Run against him as a Bush clone, goad him into over-reacting, prompting a display of ill temper, and count on a few senior moments…”
So, Jim, you admit these faults of McCain! You left out flip flopping (as recently as this week concerning the Financial situation).
Sarah Palin is a vibrant personanlity. That said, anyone who has their personal e-mail account hacked into should be p** and it is a violation of law. But were they “political operatives”? How do you know? Do you have additional info you’d like to share?
The attraction to hack in is partially her fault. I am not justifying breaking the law. If when doing the state’s or City’s business you used the state network, then she may not have had this attraction to hack. Besides there is a way to discuss things w/o content records; it’s called a phone call.
Maybe it was the Feds looking for terrorists. Remember under recent legislation, you do not have to have just cause to investigate, wire tap, or seize information….the Bush way. While now you hide behind the law and the constitution, the repubs have continued to shred both. But now you want to use it. The same goes for lieing.

Drilling for oil in U.S. won’t help gas prices Editorial Athens Banner-Herald | Story updated at 6:45 pm on 9/17/2008
Paul Sakuma/Ap Gas prices are seen posted at World gas station last week in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Just when the sting of filling up at the gas station had begun to ease after the summer price spike, drivers once again are having to dig deep at the pump. Gasoline prices skyrocketed to new highs Sunday because of concerns about hurricane damage to Gulf Coast oil rigs and refineries and a surge in demand for gasoline driven by rumors of shortages and fears of ever-rising costs.
Anyone who hoped that this summer’s foray into $4 a gallon gas was just a one-time ordeal and that prices would settle back down to Earth surely now must know turbulence in our energy markets is here to stay.
Politicians - especially those in the midst of election campaigns - are peddling their fix for our energy woes. For Republicans, and even some Democrats, the solution can be reduced to a simple slogan: “Drill baby drill.” By expanding U.S. oil drilling offshore and in areas previously off limits, such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, they argue we can increase supplies, lower prices and become less dependent on oil-rich foreign countries. Democrats argue increasing fuel efficiency and exploring alternative sources, such as wind, solar, fuel cells and natural gas, are the keys to lower costs and energy independence.
These strategies make for good sound bites, but even under the most optimistic circumstances and timelines, their benefits are years, if not generations, away.
While the issue of whether to grant more offshore drilling rights is dominating the energy discussion these days, it’s worth remembering it takes five to 10 years for a new offshore oil drilling site to be located and begin production. And, as we’ve seen in the past week, locating such facilities along the Gulf Coast carries inherent risks during hurricane season. The area, which is home to a quarter of our domestic oil production and almost half of the nation’s refining capacity, has been hit with two hurricanes in the past month that brought the oil industry there to a standstill.
Drilling for more oil isn’t the only long-term fix being bandied about. Republican vice presidential nominee and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has characterized recent progress on a natural gas pipeline in her state as the nation’s salvation from the vice-like grip of foreign energy suppliers. But despite all the ballyhoo, that pipeline exists only on paper and is, at best, a decade away from supplying fuel to the rest of the country.
Lastly, although progress is being made toward developing and expanding alternative fuel technologies, it will be some time before these options are a cost-effective choice for most consumers. That said, if gas prices continue the steep climb seen in recent years, more and more drivers might decide it’s worth spending money up front for better fuel efficiency down the road.
All this is to say that we need to get used to riding the gas price rollercoaster. No matter which party is in control of the White House or Congress after the November election, our fuel options and costs aren’t likely to improve in the next few years. Until a genuine solution arrives, try easing some of the pain at the pump by turning off the A/C, checking your tire pressure, tuning up the engine, avoiding idling and driving the speed limit. These days, making your car even a little more fuel efficient can pay off.

If I were Sarah, I would be concerned. I would be asking the question, “If they would hack into my e-mail,” what will they do next? All Americans should be concerned. This is a form of terrorism.
Regarding the use of a personal e-mail account for public use, I held an important position at a company a couple years ago. It was a large company and e-mail was the primary vehicle for communication. I was a driven manager, as were many others. We took our work home. Much of our work included sending reports to each other via e-mail. I never would have asked the company to provide me with an e-mail account for home use. Instead, I used my own internet service (which I payed for) to tap into the company’s e-mail via a special address.
I believe that there is not enough focus on the terrorist nature of this e-mail attack. To focus on the fact that Sarah used her personal e-mail account (which she payed for) in government business, is just trivial.

Well, if this ain’t a case for Law and Order, I don’t know what is.
I say the guvmint needs to use its spying power to track down the person that stole the e-mails. We already look at everybody’s e-mails and listen in on their phone calls anyway. As part of the War on Terrists, of course. Just hire more people to go thru everybody’s PC. You don’t need a warrant no more. And while you are at it, go ahead and publish the name and address of every librul that writes in on this blog.
Something else is bothering me though. What kind of cheapskate state uses Yahoo e-mail for state business? Everybody knows when you use Yahoo you do it to keep from paying anything. Don’t Alaska have any money, with all that oil?
Well, I’ll go ahead and post this. I’m here at a gas station hiding in a broom closet to keep people from seeing what I’m writing. It’s kind of dark, but if people don’t know I’m in here, they won’t be able to steal what I write.
Have a good day everybody.

If Sarah Palin wasn’t using personal email accounts for government business, I don’t think anyone would be interested in her personal email accounts. Once you began to do government business with a personal email account, it’s NO LONGER PERSONAL or an invasion of privacy.

To make this clear: The ‘hack’ wasnt done by ‘the lefts’ or even by ‘hackers’. It was a bored 20yo who read in the news about Palins yahoo-adress. He didnt ‘hack’ the account. He just used the ‘dont remember your pw?’ funtion, wich asked you 3 questions in order to change the pw. This 3 questions were: 1. Birthday. 2. Zip-Code 3.The place you first met your husband. Information that is widely available. Even moreso that she is now a VP-candidate.
It is very DISTURBING, that someone who could get the power of the POTUS is so NAIVE (not to say dumb) to use an so badly secured private-mail adress for confident conversation.
You have to ask yourself this: If even a 20yo boy can OUTWIT Mrs. Palin, how will she stay up against SERIOUS Threads like terrorists or the Russian and Chinese Intelligence agncies?

I have a friend who used to be a contracted, professional hacker used by various large companies. They hired him to test their defenses against intrusions by other hackers.
Wait until he or someone like him cracks Obama’s and Biden’s email accounts and posts their private communications onto the internet. Hmmmmmmmm.
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander…. Politics is war. It ain’t gonna change.
Be careful lefties…. Obama hasn’t been been crowned emperor of America yet. Maybe he should remove the “President” tag on the back of his seat in his chartered plane until he finishes the race. Oh yeah… We still have this thing called an election. You need to win it to become the President of the United States.
This reminds me of those liberals who believe that every child should receive a trophy whether or not they win just so nobody’s feelings get hurt. The world is a tough place. Somebody wins and somebody loses. Every single poll tells us this race is dead even. Anything is possible in November.
Hollywood and Northeastern liberals can’t stand people who think differently than they do. They love to blather on about unity but WTF does that mean??? Unity…. huh???
In my opinion they tend to be the most dismissive, arrogant, self-rightous, naive, passive, gutless, socialist, and godless people in the country. They call other people stupid if they have a different opinion. They try to censor opposing viewpoints or speakers if they don’t like what they hear. Unity???? huh????
A radio station in Chicago had an author on who wrote a book that the Obama campaign didn’t like. They actually tried to prevent the station from broadcasting the interview… Sounds like Hugo Chavez or Vladamir Putin to me. Drink their Kool-Aid or you are a Nazi…. huh??????
I can’t stand George Bush, or Cheney or Rumsfeld or Ashcroft. I would have prefered to see someone like Mike Bloomberg or Ron Paul on the ticket. However, I believe in the concept of free speech and will defend that right to my death if necessary.
Hacking emails is just the start of what these whack-jobs are about to do. Put your seatbelts on tight. This is going to ugly.

Dear Goldie @ 8:50, no, I disagree that (1) a covert pursuit of terrorists who hold malicious intent is in a class with (2) publishing private correspondence of an individual. I understand your unwillingness to differentiate the former legal and justifiable use of government guns from the latter unjustifiable breach of decency – it’s a leftist thing.
Dear Jason @ 9:06, ok, I’ll bite – why is use of a private email service a violation of “public records laws?” Sounds ridiculous to me, but I’ll entertain an argument. Do the laws also outlaw private written diaries or use of a personal cell phone?

I am a conservative democrat from the Midwest. I am not as concerned sir as you suggest about the Governor from Alaska. I do, however, think you miss the point. Our nation is in no condition to elect a VP for President. We are in the midst of an economic crisis and, well, the GOP Presidential nominee admits that he doesn’t know much about the economy.
In a capitalist nation, being on the Hill over 20 years, McCain should be ashamed of himselves, not only McCain but the Arizonians that have voted him into office over and over again.
This election is not about CoverGirl or Charlotte the pig, it is about very real issues that have the American people in their grips.

I can see how some Republicans would think that this hacking was done by Obama, because you are IDIOTS. Do you really think that He would sacrifice an election to read her private email. Palin could have had sex with a bear and her followers would still think that she is the best thing to come along since sliced bread. This was probably done by the McCain camp as an excuse to delete her email account so that she doesn’t have to present the evidence in the ” troopergate ” investigation. Judging by that town hall meeting with McCain, she is still the straight man in a Las Vegas lounge act.

LIBERALS START QUOTING EXCERPTS FROM PALIN’S PRIVATE MESSAGES.
How low can Democrats sink? How low can the media sink when they will not assist in finding one who breaks the law?
Those here who don’t try to pick out a few lines from Palin’s e-mail and make some asinine excuse, start talking about something else.
Well, I don’t blame them trying to change the subject. I wouldn’t want to talk about the dirtiest Democratic political move in decades. There’s no way to hide this one. It smells from here to Alaska.

I agree that the behavior of the left is dispiteous, but what is new. Obama’s fanatical followers see Palin as a threat to their perverted views and to their messiah’s election so with a complicit national media they make big issues out of non-issues in their effort to defeat Palin. Concerning Palin’s credentials Clinton and Carter as governors didn’t have much foreign policy experience either and they ran for president. Give the woman a chance, she just might amaze everyone.

Another article about how the left is scared of Palin, about how everyone is attacking her, etc.
Palin came out with both barrels blazing at the RNC, dissed the media, called out Obama, practically slapped him across the face with a white glove challenging him to a duel - and then when the fight SHE picked begins, her and her crybaby cheering squad begin squawking about “unfair treatment” and “sexism” and “media bias”.
Yes, this is real rational conservatives: explicitly declare your mislike and distrust of the media in front of an audience of 40 million as one of your main selling points, then whine when the media doesn’t treat you with kid gloves. Launch a salvo of sarcastic jibes at your opponent and then cry “sexism” when his campaign fires back.
Either stop picking fights you don’t want to have, or stop whining when the person you want to fight with actually fights back. I’ve never seen such a group of hypocritical crybabies in my life, the same people who whined for decades about “political correctness” now crying “sexism” every other day. What a joke.

The economy is crashing but the Hollywood liberals have $28,500 per plate for the honor of being in the presence of the annointed one.
In 2005 McCain warned the entire nation about the impending crash of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Nobody listened and the democrats blocked any discussion on the subject in Congress. They did this to allow the lenders to keep giving out dumb loans to people who could never afford to pay them back.
As to the point made by Ragnar to Jason @9:06: Interesting questions. What about personal diraries and cell phone conversations. Would it be ok for the right to publish those or give out phone records on the internet. Would the leftinistas call that fair game.
One more issue…. This election is about McCain versus Obama. Not the VPs. If the leftinistas are so concerned about Palin being a heartbeat away from the presidency maybe they should consider Biden’s two aneurysms. That should be a fair topic for comparison shouldn’t it?

Man as an independent I’m fed up with it. We need a third party with the name “American United” and forget about the loons on the left and the right. We need to whats best for our country and forget your personal agendas. I’m not 100% sold on McCain but I feel that he has a better chance for change compared to Obama because he has a record of reaching across the party line and going against his own party. Obama is famous for saying McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. But if you ever took the time to research instead of spouting your talking lines, you find out that Obama voted with his party 97% of the time. Boy that’s really change and a new style of leadership! I offer a couple of real world cases for our leftists to consider:
(1) A particular government computer is used by committee interns of both parties. An intern of one party discovers an inflammatory memo of political strategy written by an intern of the other party and publishes the memo in the local newspaper. Do we condemn (a) the intern who used a government computer for a partisan political purpose, or (b) the intern who copied and published the inflammatory political memo? (Google “Miranda” “Committee” “strategy” “hack” for the story.)
(2) Am unelected political partisan uses a modified scanner to tape record a cell phone call between two politicians of the opposing party, discussing political strategies. The unelected partisan gives the tape recording to a politician of his own party, who releases the tape to embarrass his opposition. Do we condemn (a) the politician who published the illegal tapes for partisan gain, or (b) the two politicians who plotted strategy using a cell phone? (Google “Boehner” “McDermott” “cell phone” for the story.)
The left has an evil history here.

THE Captain was alarmed when He saw Mr Wooten’s headline today, thinking that perhaps Our Sarah Plain had taken ill with consumption, or perhaps had finally choked on the robotic repition of Her bull dung replete stump speech and was bringing up a rather pesky furball.
But thankfully, no. For God is great, and he would never smite one of his glossolalia gals. He has sent Her on this mission, and will see Her through.
But THE Captain would like to take this opportunity to warn all True Believers of a pending slander against St John Himself. Forewarned is forearmed, THE Captain always says, regardless of context.
It seems that some fancy pants Hispanico journalist was playing GOTCHA with Our Favorite, and set out to stump Him with trick questions about leaders of obscure and unimportant nations like Spain. (if there really is such a country. It could have been a trick question, like “Do you pronunce the capital of Kentucky loo-eee-ville or lou-uh-ville. A: Frankfurt. But THE Captain digresses.)
So be on the lookout for the koming komic kerfuffle as desperate libs try to paint St John as a senile old coot with no real knowledge of world affairs and one of America’s alleged major allies.
For as Wooten says, the Islamoliberals are desperate, and are willing to tar the Plain / McCain ticket with whatever facts they can find, like Our Lady of the Moose and her violation of public records statutes and obstruction of justice in the Troopergate matter. It’s just despicable how low these comsymps are willing to stoop.

getalife at 9:19, again, sir, you hit the nail on the head.
With such an abysmal record of failure and incompetence to cut and run from, the bible-thumping cons are indeed obsessed with this no-name, never done squat woman.
Not surprising.
To wit, our esteemed columnist writes vis a vis Ms. Palin, …the left has been wild with rage and frustration…
Funny, what rage and what frustration does this man refer to?
The angriest, most venomous bloggers here and in the real world are practically always those of the lunatic fringe’s far right wing.
You know, Bush voters.
Those with a pronounced proclivity for violence, as evidenced recently by the good Hannity, O’Reilly and Limbaugh reading “conservative” murdering innocent liberals at a children’s play.
And racism, as demonstrated by the sleazy bar owner in Marietta selling Obama monkey t-shirts.
This over hyped, loud-mouthed element of the repulsive Republicons is no longer fooling anybody but their dwindling selves.
America is flat sick and tired of these “agents of intolerance” and incompetent, immoral corrupt bumblers.
And their buffoonish enablers like the mother of all empty sloaganeers, Dustbin.
And will almost certainly hand them a second consecutive ultra-embarrassing pummeling come November.
It is the RIGHT thing to do.
So, after decades of this hijacked, neo-con infested GOP, the sane center is not much surprised at yet another non-family values, family values, non-conservative conservative.
The book-burner wannabe appears to prize political exposure over raising a functional family…

Jim, the only common sense conservative I have seen so far is Ron Paul. McCain is losing his mind. He doesn’t know if he is coming or going. Palin is a religious fanatic in a very scary way. Someone who says “It’s Gods Will for this, It’s Gods Will for that, or Gods Plan for this, and God’s Plan for that, sure doesn’t belong in the second highest place in the country!
I don’t agree with snooping into someone’s privacy, and that goes for the Republicans doing the same thing too. You fail to mention that they have warrant less wiretaps, phone taps, scanning of our e-mails, and who knows what else.
They argue that if you haven’t done anything wrong then there’s nothing to worry about. Come on!!!
What happened to their claim of LESS GOVERNMENT!
I guess for Republicans LESS IS MORE, more or less. So that’s your idea of common sense conservatism? I would like to see your idea of non-sense conservatism.
By the way since you now have my e-mail address maybe you can hack into my e-mails and check me over in the name of “National Security”.
Like some Republicans say; it’s only illegal if you get caught.

“Dear Jason @ 9:06, ok, I’ll bite – why is use of a private email service a violation of ‘public records laws?’”
From the Alaska Public Records Act: “A person having custody or control of a public record who denies, obstructs, or attempts to obstruct, or a person not having custody or control who aids or abets another person in denying, obstructing, or attempting to obstruct, the inspection of a public record subject to inspection under AS 40.25.110 or 40.25.120 may be enjoined by the superior court from denying, obstructing, or attempting to obstruct, the inspection of public records subject to inspection under AS 40.25.110 or 40.25.120.”
Public records are defined as “books, papers, files, accounts, writings, including drafts and memorializations of conversations, and other items, regardless of format or physical characteristics, that are developed or received by a public agency, or by a private contractor for a public agency, and that are preserved for their informational value or as evidence of the organization or operation of the public agency.”
Therefore, Palin’s use of undisclosed private e-mail accounts(“writings…developed by a public agency”) to discuss government business (the “operation of the public agency”) constitutes “obstructing the inspection of a public record.”

WTF???? Have you forgotten about your Islamoliberal friends who want to NATIONALIZE the oil companies. How about the Dems who want to force automakers to build cars that meet their desires not the free market’s?
Don’t forget about those on the left who want MANDATORY EQUAL TIME FOR BOTH PARTIES ON TALK RADIO.
Who’s the communist?
To each his own. Freedom of thought. Freedom of assembly. Freedom of the press. Protection from unlawful search and seizure. The right to a speedy trial and a jury of your peers.
I think you need to emigrate to Cuba, Russia or Venezuala.

Dear Goldie @ 8:50, I have determined that my short-hand answer to your original thought was inadequate. The road of the law, on invasion of privacy, has a couple of meaningful signposts. The first asks, “Is there a reasonable expectation of privacy?” One who knowingly and willfully parades naked on a public beach cannot claim an expectation of privacy when the pictures show up on the internet. One who shares a secret with a friend on a telephone has an expectation of privacy, save the trust invested in the friend. One who writes free thoughts into a file on a private computer has a reasonable expectation of privacy.
The second signpost asks, “Is there a reasonable countervailing public interest that overcomes an expectation of privacy?” A telephone call between New York City and a rural area in Afghanistan may have an expectation of privacy on both ends, but due to the war against Islamist terrorism, and the government’s specific obligation to protect American lives, there is a countervailing public interest. The public “right to know” is a reasonable countervailing public interest, but only to the extent that public policy is directly affected. The results of Mrs. Palin’s last PAP smear would not be within the public interest.
Real world application of the jbmlaw standards: I think, for example, Joe Biden’s history of aneurysms is within the scope of matters where Mr. Biden would have a reasonable expectation of privacy, and same is not within the “countervailing public interest” exception. If Mr. Biden, for whatever reason, chooses to submit that private matter into the public arena for discussion, I do not challenge commentary as “immoral” on either side thereafter, although I certainly think there would continues to be theoretical commentary I would call “inappropriate.”
Further, where there is an expectation of privacy, even when there is countervailing public interest, the government may not use the “improperly” discovered information in a criminal prosecution. The government’s “use” authority is limited to the preservation of innocent life.

I think Jim spends his weekends writing this cr@p and then just poops one out each day. Every post continues to be the repugnants trying to convince themselves over and over agian, the desperation is palpable. Have you repugnants, and Jim, not looked around? No one cares about Palin anymore, her 5 minutes of fame are gone, and so is any thought McSame had for a lead in the polls. The American people are not as dumb as the repugnants think, and now that everyone has had a chance to see what Palin is all about(or lack there of), we know she will selfdestruct, as she is. The attention is on McSame and his flip-flopping, lies. And there is no worry there either. So Jim, Dusty, and Ragnar, continue to tell yourselves whatever you have to in order to look at yourselves in the mirror. We don’t mind, we know better.

Not so fast, Jason @ 10:34. The statute conveys an authority to the courts to compel disclosure of a public record. The statute does not permit a thief to steal records. You affirm that Mrs. Palin violated the law. When did the court issue an order compelling disclosure? Or are you merely lying like a leftist?
Dear Liz @ 10:38, of course email is private, it always has been and always will be so long as a “password” is necessary for access. A user has a reasonable expectation of privacy unless disabused of the expectation (e.g., a company advises employees that “emails are monitored.”)

Hacking into email? I smell a high-tech Watergate. Email is inherently insecure, this is why George Bush doesn’t communicate by email and it shouldn’t matter if John McCain does either.
Just the same, the zealot miscreants who are responsible should go to jail AND I want to know who they were working for… Obama’s ‘plumbers’? Every election Obama’s been involved in has had some incident where scandals or disqualifications led to his being largely unopposed. Same old tricks?

That’s your Republicans idea of LESS GOVERNMENT!!
Will they bail me out if I have to file bankruptcy? Doubt it, don’t want the government intruding now do we.
LESS government help for the WORKING CLASS, MORE help for the RICH.
Us regular folks are screwed when a Republican gets in office. Anyone notice how McCain’s commercials are aimed at the rich? How’s that you ask? He says Obama will raise taxes, well yeah, on the rich, not on us regular working class folks like you and me. So when McCain’s ad says Obama will raise taxes on us, McCain IS TALKING TO THE RICH CROWD.

“The statute does not permit a thief to steal records.” I never said it did. No doubt, the hacker acted illegally.
“You affirm that Mrs. Palin violated the law. When did the court issue an order compelling disclosure?” Until recently, no one, including the courts, knew these e-mail accounts existed, aside from those corresponding with Palin. Consequently, the information transmitted through these accounts—which we now know pertained to government business—was inaccessible to the public, a violation of the Alaska Public Records Act.

Dear Jason @ 11:21, you persist in misreading the law. The law does not prohibit use of unconventional record transmission or peculiar methods generally – it merely permits a court to compel production. You affirm that Mrs. Palin “violated” the Alaska Public Records Act, and she plainly did not. You cannot cite anything she has done that violates the law, yet you persist in calling her a “violator.” Rather like citing for a law prohibiting a car from going 100 mph merely because you own a car that can go that fast. Until you actually violate the law, you cannot be branded a violator.

The GOP’s claim that it was Democrats who orchestrated the break-in into Palin’s e-mail account is just more proof of how out of touch the right is. It’s common knowledge among most people that hackers do what they do simply to prove they can. They don’t care one bit about the politics behind it. Hackers saw reports about Palin using personal e-mail for government business (highly unethical behavior) and decided to see if they could get to her account. They didn’t care who she was, just that they’d get attention if they succeeded.
I particularly love the claim that Democrats have been desperately trying to dig up dirt about Palin. Truth is, there’s so much of it that they haven’t had to do a thing but sit back and wait for it to surface on its own. The desperation is the GOP trying to cover up the dirt, or cloud the issue with specious claims about “sexism.” Nothing is more sexist than assuming women will support a candidate simply because she’s a woman, with no regard to her actual views on the issutes.

I wouldn’t put it past the Republicans to hack into her account and blame it on the Democrats or the media. We have already seen numerous occasions where the truth had nothing to do with the speeches given by the Republicans. All this false talk of Obama raising middle class taxes when economists agree that his plan helps more families than McCain’s.
But the more important question is, “Why is the governor of Alaska using a yahoo account for official business?” Are you kidding me? What kind of message about national security does that send if someone can hack a government official’s email like they did Paris Hilton’s phone?

We don’t, but that doesn’t diminish the fact that Palin did. How do we know other presidents haven’t had sex with interns? Should we have just ignored what Clinton did, since he was the only one who got caught?
“So do you advocate that the private email accounts of all the candidates be opened to public review?”
No, because public officials are expected not to conduct government business through their private accounts, and until proven otherwise, like with Palin, we have no reason to believe they are.

Some of you here have apparently tried and convicted Mrs. Palin, without a trial and without evidence.Perhaps you might want to reconsider. If,somewhere in the future it is proven that Mrs. Palin was in fact, doing government business through a private email account for the purpose of hiding facts from the public then the public will deal with it.Let’s wait until we get the facts.

the hackers were probably worried if Sarah Quayle Palin was a terrorist, so they needed to check her e-mail, don’t you care about America? what are you for the terrorists? how do we know for sure that she isn’t working for Al Qaeda unless someone illegally violates her right to privacy? anybody that doens’t want all of her e-mails illegally checked must be working with Osama Bin Laden and isn’t a patriot! see how the BS works? kinda silly isn’t it? I don’t think what happened to her was right, but neither do I think that spying on Americans is right either, especially when most of the spying has been done on people just because they dissent and don’t automatically and blindly fall in line like they are ‘supposed to’. or we could use the other GOP BS that’s been used to spy on Americans: “if she doesn’t have anything to hide than she won’t mind people reviewing her e-mails, that is, if she’s not a terrorist”. doesn’t really sound silly now that the shoe is on the other foot?
