Waiting for John
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A dozen years ago, John McCain delivered what may go down as his best convention speech — that in support of U.S. Sen. Bob Dole. It was a speech where he expressed the Vietnam veteran’s appreciation to a those who had fought in World War II, the generation that saved the free world.
What to expect tonight? No repeat of last night is required. The country knows John McCain. Some Republicans love him; some are lukewarm. He is a maverick. But whatever your thoughts and feelings, he’s known. No mysteries of his life are out there to be explored.
We’re not being introduced to John McCain. We’re having a conversation with a man we know. The platform and the convention hall is being changed to reflect that. It’ll be a town hall.
If his speech hits a homer, fine. If not, no problem. We know John McCain.
His views and those of Barack Obama are radically different. You either prefer one or the other.
The race, really, is a referendum on whether Barack Obama is ready to lead this country in a world where bad guys want to kill us because of who we are and what we believe and represent to the world. It’s a referendum on whether we want the size and reach of government Obama and Biden represents
McCain should be upbeat and positive about the future. He’s likely not to get the audience Gov. Sarah Palin got Wednesday, but that’s no big deal. We know him — and we know how he will act in times of crisis and stress.

Hey Wooten— I believe the big mystery for McBush is why he decided to sell his soul to Dubya’s decomposing Party in order to win an election in November? What happened to your independent, reforming, “maverick” that everyone keeps talking about here on your blog? That’s so 8 years ago…
By selecting Palin as his running mate, McBush not only decided to go with a bad gimmick in an attempt to woo some Hillary supporters (and good luck with that — trying to gain their support by insulting them!), he also made his pact with the 30% Club, those religious zealots who control your Party today.

TW— Palin, the Commander in Chief… how scary can it get? She who has stated that our occupation of Iraq is “a task from God”. I wonder if McBush would have even considered her if it wasn’t for the fact that she is in possession of a v@gina. Apparently, that’s what has made the difference in his choice for “qualifications” of his veep.
Huckabee was a governor for even longer than Palin has served. Romney was a governor for even longer than Palin has served. Rudy was a mayor for even longer than Palin has served. Is it because none of them were “hockey moms”, or because they lack the essential sex organs to complete his ticket?
It’s a real mystery to me…

I’m going to clean this up. “Wonder Boy” will have women throwing themselves at him. How long will he be true to his knocked up girlfriend that, in 5 months, he has not had time to marry? At least he is not being duplicious and claiming to be family values and absentinence only.
The bloom is off the rose.
McCain has made a huge mistake. He has shot himself in the foot. Sorta fits, given his problems with keeping his plane in the air in the past.
Mr. McCain has NO CHANCE if he keeps this person as his VP. No matter how sketchy Obama’s plans are, no matter how inexperienced, Mr. McCain has HANDED him the Presidency.

I’m sure grampa will give a fine speech. Any chance he’ll trot his ex-wife out afterwards to show America what great family values he has…you know, like how Palin pimped her knocked up kid for the nation to gawk over?

Davo — I agree… McBush should really man-up tonight and bring out his ex-wife on stage to display in front of the nation and ask for everyone’s forgiveness for being the schmuck he is… how much honor and “character” does it take for a man to go behind his wife’s back and date a prom queen while still being married to the first wife?

Now Jim is saying we need a Republican to protect us ………”in a world where bad guys want to kill us because of who we are and what we believe and represent”
What do you represent JIM…….. attacking other countries for OIL……..AND letting the BAD GUYS go FREE…….. Bilking America and its folks?

What strikes me is that the “base” want to keep the status quo. Again, this is about making sure the profiters continue to gain and the poor and middle class remain loyal to staying in their place in society so that these “superior beings” can be happy. Surely, Mike Huckabee’s comment resonates loud and clear that basically Democrats are poor and waiting on the government to take care of them, that is why he became a Republican instead. Then John Mc has no less than 7 houses across time zones and at least hundreds of millions of dollars at his disposal. Then don’t forget the fact that he stated middle class is folks who have at least 5 millions bucks. WOW, and guess what mindset was represented in what we seen last night. That the ordinary steel working, community organizing, democratic touting poor and middle class person should do as they do, rob, steal or whatever to take advantage of a people who for all intents and purposes mistakenly continue to subscribe to the rhetoric. Which time and time (last 8 years) has been nothing more than a ploy to keep american families in the rut the country is experiencing as we all witness for ourselves. At least those who have less than 5 million dollars.

Peter, don’t forget the rights we have had taken by our “small government, personal responsibility” government in the last 8 years.
Follow the money. It’s all about the money, and the power it takes to get it.

Goldie, don’t forget this gem of a quote to his current lovely wife: “At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c—-!” In front of people. Yeah. Doesn’t deny it either; said he’d just had a long day.

The republicans had their chance to choose McCain eight years ago, instead, they gave the world W. While the time is probably too early for Obama, it is eight years too late for McCain.
Besides, I find it hard to believe anyone who has spent almost 25 years serving in the house and senate when they speak of “change”.
