First woman could be conservative. Yes!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Pinch me. Yes! Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, will be on the ticket.
She’s got it all. She’s a strong fiscal conservative, a champion of transparency and accountability in government, a leader capable of leading the charge on a sane and practical energy policy that involves drilling where experts believe there’s oil. She is, too, a strong pro-life believer who is unquestionably true to her convictions. She and her husband knew that their child would be born with Down syndrome — and they did not choose to end his life by abortion.
This is a gutsy call on John McCain’s part. She has no more credibility on national security and foreign policy issues than does Barack Obama. But we are talking here about the under-card. As vice preident, she’ll have an opportunity for seasoning.
The prospect that the first woman in the White House will be a conservative is a hallelujah moment. Yes!

Great pick. Dems cannot talk about expierence, OBama doesn’t have much either, agewise Biden isn’t that much younger and length in Senate, both McCain & Biden have over 30 years, plus she is a woman something the Dems didn’t nominate. The real change comes from McCain.

But she has no experience—the very same complaint about Obama. McCain is old and could easily die in office. And you want this Shania Twain look-alike in charge? How in the world can good conservatives support this off-the-wall gamble? This is the chick you want standing up to Putin?

She’s also an active NRA member (and enjoys hunting and fishing, so I’m told)and was the point guard on her high school basketball team when they won the State Championship. Well rounded lady, and not to hard on the eyes if I do say so myself. Interesting choice… But Biden is a seasoned speaker and debater, she’s have her hands full when it comes to that. We’ll have to see how this one pans out. With McCain’s age this choice is a little more important than Obama’s was. Can’t wait for debates to start.

She will further mobilize McCain’s base, and further alienate those of us that never would have voted for him anyway. The fence sitters will have to decide on their own energy concerns and if they want her running the country after McCain dies in office.

The problem that potential McCain voters will have to consider is: What are the chances Palin actually ends up having to take over? If he wins, McCain will be the oldest new president ever elected, and his past health problems are well documented. The chance that Palin will end up sitting in the Big Chair at some point during a potential McCain presidency is not insignificant, and that alone severely cuts into McCain’s ability to slam Obama for his lack of experience.
Even from an unabashed liberal’s perspective, she’s hardly the worst person out there, but it seems like McCain is banking on there being a lot more angry PUMAs out there than there really are.

This shows McCains ability to be a leader. To take on an understudy and groom her to become a strong contributor to the country. She is an inspired pick, a REAL person who is about as far from the Washington elite and East Coast intellectual snobs as is possible. She has lived a real life and shown what leadership is all about. Let’s see how she does in the campaign in dealing with the pressures, but I see a new bright star that can outshine Obama. The REAL question is will the liberal media give her the easy time of it like they have Obama???

Well, looks like me and Joe Bill and Jim Earl are going to have to switch to Bob Barr. With all the politicans out there to pick from, old man McCain has to pick a young cookie-baker that ain’t even finished having kids.
Most of us know old man McCain is liable to croak in a couple years. And this female would take over before his carcass is hauled out of the White House. She would get ate alive. The old men in Congress would tell her to go get a plate of cookies and a pitcher of milk while they worked things out.
I’m so disgusted.

Hmmm…I don’t think this choice will have any impact at all on McCain’s success. One the front of trying to get undecided Hillary voters I believe focusing solely on gender is a mistake. Undecided Hillary voters are either poor folks who liked Bill Clinton or feminist folks who want a woman in office. For the first group you can’t replace Hillary with just anyone…they want Hillary. For the second group they’re a bit more educated and might take the idea that McCain thinks he can win over their vote with a pro-life conservative woman as an insult.
Lastly, poor thing is going to drown in the VP debates against Biden. She has only 2 years of state experience and absolutly no national experience. Obama has 7 years of state experience and 4 years of national.
I just don’t think this pick will hurt or help McCain.

Gloria,
First of all (not being insulting at all)..its ‘Barak’ not Barach.
2nd, I believe the only reason you will support him is because the GOP is now Solidly! Solidly! Pro-Life!
3rd, Obama is the most radical, left wing politician ever! Ever! Its sad that such an historic moment belongs to man that trumps a person’s right to life.
4th, MLK was a staunch supporter of civil rights for all…the minorities, the poor, the weakest of our society who have been forgotten by our government. Its sad that we have a major presidential candidate that goes against all the MLK stood for.
Last, Obama is against the weakest of our society. If a baby is born alive during an abortion, he does not support laws protecting that life that has entered this world. He would make it criminal for a doctor to nuture that life. Show me how you treat the weakest of our society and you’ll know where you really stand. Americans have these rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But with Obama…its life only if you are not a “punishment” baby born into this world. Those were his words not mine…a baby is a “punishment”. Disgusting but not surprising when it comes to this politician…he is not a “new” candidate..he is more of the same rhetoric and sad support of the death of countless innocent babies.
A question or two to end this:
What are Obama’s ideas Gloria? Bet you don’t know more than one.
How will God respond to those who keep silent about the heinous crime of abortion? What will be our excuse for allowing the death of His own children.
God: “Before I formed you in the womb….I knew you!”

For those of you in fear of something - fear that McCain is too old, or Obama is inexperienced - stop living in fear. I’m neither a McCain or Obama supporter and believe that this choice for VP by McCain simply levels the playing field. You have one fairly green (inexperienced) political individual on each team. So what. If you want to fear something - fear this - if elected - Obama will change America like no other person could or has EVER. Yet, that change does not look very promising from where I sit as a baby boomer. In fact - it looks rather frightening. In 8 more years - Obama may have made a good VP with Hilary as President…right now he’s not a good choice for America. McCain at least has seen the best of both worlds - from the side of freedom and the side that has no door knobs….that experience alone trumps Obama any day of the week and twice on Sunday….As an independent - I truly have but one choice…and it ain’t Barrack Hussein Obama….

This is a risky move on McCain’s part but I guess he and his handlers know what they’re doing. The campaign will need to kick into high gear getting her familiarized with America. I imagine the media and most of the country will be underwhelmed at this point. I’d have chosen Texas senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson if they were set on a woman.

Sorry to burst your bubbles but this just looks desperate. As for stopping the bounce in mid-air, I don’t know how much bounce there was going to be but if you actually think this choice is a game changer then you show yourself as a partisan hack more than a political observer.
In regards to her conservative credentials, did anyone ever really believe that McCain was in trouble of not getting the conservative vote? I realize Barr is an option but I seriously doubt anyone considering Barr would be swayed to change their mind by offering them a woman whose only governmental experience is City Council and Mayor in an Alaskan Town of 8,000 followed by one and one-half years as Governor of one of the least populated states in the country (47th if you are wondering.)
And remember this very important fact: elections, particularly this one, are won in the middle. This choice moves McCain further away from those voters than ever.
The assertion that this keeps the Democrats from being able to make her total lack of governmental experience an issue shows you’ve been listening to too much Fox News. It actually will have an inverse impact and take away one of the real avenues of attack the GOP had in this election.
Extremely poor choice and one that smacks of desperation and gimmickry.

This is an unusual choice. I thought that if McCain was going to go the route of chosing a female to be his running mate, he would choose Condelezza Rice; that is if experience was going to be a focal point with Barack Obama.
To the one who are mentioning that the Democrats did not chose a woman (Hilary Clinton), remember that the Dems are the first major party to have chosen a woman(Geraldine Ferraro) for their presidential ticket in 1988, and we saw how that turned out.
I believe that this is not the best choice because the old conservative regime (old white-haired men) are not going for it. Condelezza, maybe. Sarah, I don’t think so.
This is my opinion and I am sticking to it.

This pro death ticket is going to get hammered at the polls with the Catholic Bishops across the country boldly informing their flock that it is against the moral law to vote for anyone that supports it. Further, Biden is Catholic and he will be constantly reminded that due to his abominable pro abortion beliefs that he should not present himself for communion!

Are you kidding me? If this were a man, we’d be outraged that McSame would challenge our intellect and put up someone with these RAZOR THIN credentials as VP. IF THIS WERE A MAN, WE’D BE CALLING THIS PICK IRRESPONSIBLE AND RECKLESS. McSame is using a woman for political purposes (can we say quota?).
This woman was governor (for 2 years) of a state with 680,000 people. I’d be willing to bet the state is less populous than Obama’s district in Illinois that he represented as a State Senator for 8 years.
She has absolutely ZERO foreign policy experience and hell ZERO national experience. In the words of McSame, she is “DANGEROUSLY UNPREPARED TO LEAD THIS NATION”. Given McSame’s age and medical history, its quite likely that she will take over, especially if he runs for a 2nd term and wins.
Let’s be serious here. Hillary’s supporters and the women in this country AREN’T STUPID! They supported Hillary, not because she was a woman, but because she had a compelling record and life story that made me support her at one point (I’m a male).
What non-sense? I have faith that the American people won’t fall for the OKIE DOKE!
WHAT WOULD WE BE SAYING IF A MAN HAD THESE CREDENTIALS?

Strategy wise, this plays into the Obama campaign’s hands. The reason Republicans were so successful in 2000 and 2004 was because they were able to dictate the talking points. Faith, national security, terrorism, etc., were the talking points Republicans were comfortable with, and they forced the Democrats to talk on their terms. In politics, you always want your side to set the agenda.
In contrast, picking Palin is a defensive move. It says that the McCain campaign is willing to talk “change,” a subject that Obama clearly owns and rode to victory over Clinton.
McCain had been steadily gaining in the polls by hammering home the point that, rightly or wrongly, experience and proven leadership trumps a celebrity with a speech. It was forcing Obama to become defensive.
But the McCain campaign can’t talk on their terms anymore. Not with this pick.
Two more items.
Remember Harriet Myers? Her paper-thin resume meant she was practically laughed out of a Supreme Court nomination. This could be a similar case.
Palin isn’t from a swing state.
Short-term buzz will be positive. But it may come at the expense of long-term strategy.

Wake up America…if you think last nights “show” is any indication of leadership you are sadly mistaken. If you were wowed by a gathering in a football stadium and fireworks only goes to show you cannot underestimate the ignorance of America. Siting Palin’s “inexperience” as compared to Obama’s will be detrimental to the Dems rhetoric…we’re talking about a VP…not the POTUS. A great and bold choice by McCain…lets see if the GOP has a resounding answer to America’s economic situation and I sure hope its not the same as the Dem’s hopefull shpeal “Yes we can”….oh really?… with what and who’s money and HOW are you gonna do it Obama?

Again - while the conservative base loves the pick, back in the real world where the moderate decides the election - this choice is terrifying.
Are you seriously telling me that you think Cobb County Commission Chair Sam Olens is ready to be Vice-President?? Well look it up - that is roughly the number of people Ms. Palin has governed for 2 YEARS!!!
McCain could have picked Charlie Crist; Tom Ridge; Kay Bailey Hutchinson; Tim Pawlenty; - ANY of them would have been a better pick and EMINENTLY more qualified.
McCain has spent 4 months questioning Obama’s experience and judgment. In the words of SNL’s only funny skit - REALLY???

Obama in 2008. Well, what a stunt. Yes, this is a stunt. Surely we are not supposed to believe that Mccain made this choice on his own. I say he had no other choice. The republicans are desperate. How double minded can McCain be? His main point has been that Obama does not have any experience. Who is Palin? Where is her experience? Mccain picks someone no one really knows. You former Hillary supporters are crazy to support this rhetoric. I hope you can see through this scheme. This woman is not ready to lead our county as a VP choice. Our best choice of haivng a woman in the White House was Hillary. To side with McCain just because he picked a woman is absurd. There are many men who didn’t want a woman in the white house anyway. I think conservative white men are not ready for it. I think alot of them will abandon this sinking ship. Personally, I think this is GREAT for the OBAMA camp!!!!!! mcCain thanks gor helping to get Obama in the White House.

So, a 43 year old woman who opposes abortion, gets pregnant and has genetic testing done. Why did she bother with the testing? If something other than Down Syndrome had show up, would she have terminated the pregnancy? We probably will never know. What kind of family values advocate would leave a six-month-old baby to go on the campaign trail? Is she going to drag this baby all over the country? Surely she’s a good enough mother that she’s breastfeeding to give him all the advantages and protections from illness that breastfeeding is proven to have.

As for her being able to stand up to other world leaders? Have you looked at her eyes? This woman is got a fire raging inside her - not someone to be taken lightly as far as I can see. I think she’ll be able to hold her own amongst the others on the world stage if it comes to that.

Absolutely a GREAT VEEP Pick McCain has made in selecting Gov Sarah Palin!! Palin is tough; very intelligent; is a conservative with COMMON SENSE; a MOM with one child with a disability; a son who enlisted in the US Army; and is young with a LONG future! Know that there are some Democrats at this moment scratching their heads and asking, “Why didn’t Obama pick Hillary???” Think the Democrats have — again — OUTSMARTED THEMSELVES!!
(Wonder if Obama will bring up a ‘no experience’ argument?? HOPE HE DOES!)
PS: Sen Biden, start practicing your debating skills. You will need them …. and more!!!!

So, Sara, how does it feel to be played? Who are you? We know that you are a woman but you are no Hillary Clinton. Do you not know that you are just another one of John McCain’s gimmicks to get into the White House?
Just as Obama said, “I see” and so does all America. John McCain’s repeated words of Obama who McCain said is inexperienced and that America needs someone that is experienced and you have less experienced than Obama. I find this be very contradicting of John McCain, slithering like a snake to pick a woman as his vice president to get voters to vote for him.
This is another one of McCain’s untruthful tactics. If women vote for you, it will only be because you are a female, not as a woman running for vice president that is taken seriously. You are a quick fix, not a long-term fix!
Hillary was different and unique, we know her and love her, we know nothing about you and America does not have time to wait in getting to know you. The presidential election is just around the corner and John McCain has ran out of time. Furthermore, Alaska is Alaska not Washington, you may have proved yourself in Alaska but you are far from proving yourself to the American people of the United States.

I think we may be jumping the gun here. In a party that touts social conservatism and tries harder to get the evangelical vote than we do work on the fiscal policies that we are built on, giving a woman the nomination, who on top of her inequality deemed by God himself when he made her female, has no experience.
Alaska being only a little more difficult to run than sandy springs, with about as many residents…is hardly proving ground. But maybe this just isnt our year? McCain could keel over and die, and we have a woman in office? Not in my America. God Bless Us.

For the math challenged. Even if there are fewer than one million citizens to govern in Alaska it is a far cry more than the couple of dozen employees a senator has direct control over. Further, you cannot claim that Senator Obama has judgment in lieu of experience and then criticize Senator McCain’s pick. The lady is not a go along, get along machine made hack. She has stood up to the prejudices of her party, based on the law, and the oil industry cronyism of her state to restore responsible governance to Lewis’ icebox.

Back when I coached little league, our team picked up a late signee, a cute little blonde girl, and in batting practice I discovered she could hit the ball as hard as any of the little boys on my team. So for her first game I batted her clean up. Her first at bat she grounded weakly to the pitcher. Her second at bat she was called out on strikes. Her third at bat, she came up with the bases loaded, time expired, we were down by two, only one out. The opposing coach waved his outfield to come in, to play at the edge of the grass. My girl lined the first pitch to the fence, so hard it rang the advertising sign there, emptying the bases. She glided into third, the hero(ine) for the night. I just listened to Palin speak on Limbaugh, and I got the same feeling.

The Republican party has become a laughing stock of fools. The Palin pick was one of political desperation by a party TOTALLY out of touch with the average American. After berating Obama on the experience issue, Bush McSame picks someone younger than Obama who is one heart attack or stroke away from being president! So tell me Wooten, since you and your ilk have played up the “experience” card how you’re going to explain your hypocrisy away!!

Wow. We thought McCain and his advisors were out of touch with women. Now we know it. In an attempt to win women’s votes, he’s picked a former beauty queen with practically no experience, who wants to overturn Roe v. Wade. This proves how little his campaign understands about the women of this country, now. Give us a Rhodes Scholar with a real track record of accomplishments instead of insulting our intelligence yet again.

I love how people aren’t smart enough to come up with their own ideas. McCain definetely is not another Bush. This more-of-the-same stuff is stupid. I love how when Bill Clinton was contrasting McCain with Obama, he kept giving instances where Obama was “right” and McCain was “wrong.” What was his barometer to measure the “correctness” of Obama? The current line of action of the Bush administration! Apparently, Obama is more of the same!

How about that showboating Thursday night? Where to start. Oh, where to start.
Let’s start with the production itself. I have never seen such an overproduction in my life. If ever there were any doubts that the Obamanation is nothing but rock stardom, last night quells them all. A BIG backdrop with BIG fireworks in a BIG stadium with a BIG crowd. Rather ironic that these same group of people always complain about BIG oil, BIG business, BIG this, BIG that…
Tying in to the BIG production and rock stardom, did you notice how many people’s eyes were just glazed over in sheer awe? Well, those who’s eyes weren’t filled with tears anyway. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing last night. When the cameras panned in the audience close up, I couldn’t tell if I was looking at a bunch of religious fanatics like those who cry and pass out when the pastor gets too excited, or if I was watching a concert and a bunch of groupies’ reactions to their idol on stage – tears and glazed over eyes and all that.
But regarding The Chosen One himself, I’ll just bring out just but a few completely false and idiotic things he said that both made me laugh out loud and shout at the TV at the same time:
1) Him The Messiah said: “I’m not a
