Hillary, if gone, will be back

Is Hillary married? Just asking.

In many ways, it was a strange speech from Hillary. For one, there was no acknowledgment that any man in her life might be anywhere that mattered. Bill sat, looking proud and almost tearful. She began her speech by saying that “I am honored to be here tonight” Then she identified the special distinctions she represented: ” A proud mother. A proud Democrat. A proud American. And a proud supporter of Barack Obama.”

No “Proud Wife and Mother.”

No “Proud Wife.” Or “Former First Lady.”

It’s true that unmarried women are drawn to the Democratic Party. For many, government is the supporting husband — if not directly, then in providing the back-up financial security that marriage once represented.

But maybe I read too much into her intentional omission. Maybe she just didn’t want to risk sharing the spotlight.

As a viewer, I expected an adoring crowd of Hillary supporters. There were some of those, yes. But many of them had the look of bystanders watching a potential suicide bomber. They weren’t quite sure where this spectacle was going. Me neither.

Much of it sounded like her acceptance speech or her first State of the Union. An example was her laundry list of things to do in the White House. In the following paragraph of her text, strike “he’ll” and substitute “I’ll” and in the last sentence strike the phrase “watch Barack Obama.” The paragraph:

“He’ll transform our energy agenda by creating millions of green jobs and building a new, clean energy future. He’ll make sure that middle class families get the tax relief they deserve. And I can’t wait to watch Barack Obama sign a health care plan into law that covers every single American.”

Yes, she couldn’t have been vice president. She is the dominant personality in the Obama-Hillary duo. She would have overshadowed him at every turn. His successes would have been because he implemented her programs, his failures because he didn’t. Joe Biden may be a windbag, but his fulsome rhetoric is not threatening to his potential boss.

Did she drive any Hillary supporters to the ticket? My sense is no, or at least none of those not already inclined to support the ticket, no matter what. The lady, if gone, will be back.

Jim,

It will be interesting to see your comments of the speeches at the Republican Convention and whether or not you’ll be so quick to pick up on the minutia or will you comment on the big picture of the speeches.

Hillary said it all: “Obama cannot win.” She needs his loss for her to have a 2012 run. Does anyone really believe she wants him to win -in spite of all her apparent support?

Good morning all. I forgot to tune in the convention since the Braves were playing. Understand Bill speaks tonight; I’ll probably forget to tune in again, since the Braves are playing. Instant jbmlaw analysis: Hillary’s speech did no harm to Obama, and ultimately all of her supporters, excluding the Operation: Chaos voters, will support Obama. Thus looks like a 50-50 race again. Michigan is the big one this year.

It’s all polling, Jim. For many gay women like myself, Hilllary is an object of romantic fantasy. She takes advantage of that by not interrupting our daydreams with talk of Bill. Hope you understand better now.

Wooten…There are two notations in this drivel that merit comment. First…”But maybe I read too much into her intentional omission.” Indeed you did! Being a Proud Wife, Mother, and former First lady, were outside of the purpose of the message for the occasion. Your mention reminds me of what my deceased Aunt used to say, “I know those kind of people…they just want to have something to say.”

Second…”Did she drive any Hillary supporters to the ticket? My sense is no, or at least none of those not already inclined to support the ticket, no matter what.” The same is true for those right wingers within the party, who, like McCain, are trying to use Hillary for their own agenda.

Everything Hillary did and said was to pave the way for her 2nd attempt in 2012. If Obama fails it’ll be his fault, if he wins it’ll be credited to Hillary - she’s in a no-lose situation and is only doing what she’s being told to do to preserve her own future in politics and to step up to the plate 2 1/2 years after this election and declare herself as running for nomination yet again. She knows full well that next time around the democrats wouldn’t dare not vote her in. Her behaviour during the nomination campaign accounts almost entirely for the position Obama finds himself in - with all the negativity that is going on in the US, the democrats should have walked this election. But will Hillary accept what she’s done - no more than she would accept she’d lost the nomination months before she gave up.

Just as I suspected Obama’s falling behind in the latest Gallup poll after nominating Biden as his running mate. It’s bad enough having one arrogant person on the ticket - but, having THE most arrogant person in Washington as your VP nomination has probably sunk their ship.

We’ll survive a McCain Presidency. We don’t need an uber-Liberal running the White House and allow Pelosi/Reid to destroy this country.

Hillary kept Bill around after the Lewinsky affair to better her chances for nomination after Bush. Boy, has that backfired. Bill has become the baggage that she did not need and the single reason why she is not the VP nominee. She would be better off if she had dumped him then. She’s a good politician (contradiction in terms) but she sure screwed up this time.

Jim, when I get through raising my child (the masterpiece of my life) I am going to earn three times more than you or any man and I have never and will never take a dime of welfare. My grandmother’s husband died in WWII and she never did- she raised three boys on her own so don’t tell me about single mothers! I want to hear about lazy, irresponsible men! I dont care for Obama but I will say this for him: He didn’t get off the plane in Atlanta to greet utility lobbyists as Mc Cain did! Our party has plenty of problems and I suggest you concentrate on discouraging the Bush-style corruption that plagues us and is going to put Obama in office. You are a poor judge of character, Obama is a strong man- Hillary could never overpower him. Look what the man has done in the last 6 months! You just made millions of successful women cringe and wonder if they should align themselves with such bigotry!

DANGEROUS DEMAGOGUERETTE

A demagogue is defined as “someone who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions and prejudices of the people”. I already have a multitude of reasons why I would never vote for Hillary Clinton including her stance on the rights of unborn children, her disdain for the U.S. military and her socialist touch on every program or policy she proposes. However, if for no other reason, her unbridled demogoguery at the end of the 2000 Presidential election showed me just how far she would go in a disingenuous and even dangerous effort to gain popular support.

President Bush lost the popular vote but won the electoral vote and thus the election; the U.S. Supreme Court solidifying his victory with a narrow 5 to 4 ruling. Then Mrs. Clinton, a Yale Law School graduate who knew better, angrily insinuated to the American masses that Vice President Gore had been robbed of the election since he won the popular vote. She even stated that one of her first acts as a U.S. Senator would be to propose legislation eliminating the electoral college (she thankfully failed in that attempt). I guess she felt she possessed more wisdom than James Madison and our other founding fathers.

Unfortunately, the great majority of American voters are totally ignorant of the purpose of the electoral college and the incredible history of how this country was founded. Hillary used this sad ignorance to appeal to the public’s fears and to incite them during a time of Constitutional crisis when Florida’s electoral votes were still in doubt and the rule of law and calm needed to be promoted. She knew full well the electoral college was instituted to protect the influence of the smaller states, that those states would never have signed the Constitution without it and that it prevents one region of the country from dominating others in being able to choose a President. It forces a Presidential candidate to appeal to the nation as a whole as opposed to just densely populated areas. In effect, it attempts to bring us together as a nation rather than dividing us as a direct popular vote would.

This is the United STATES of America not the United PEOPLE of America; it is thankfully a constitutional republic and not a pure reactionary democracy and there’s a big difference. Our present “electoral system” allowing the States to have a proper and constitutional role in electing a President mitigates demagoguery. Hillary’s desire for a “popular vote” system would allow demagoguery to thrive. She showed me her true colors back then in her blatant effort to do anything in a quest for power and that reveals the naked soul of a dangerous demagoguerette.

Good Grief, Jim….

You can’t tout the advantages of a McCain Presidency (or even the appearance of one). You can only promote Hillary in hopes that folks will feel sorry for her and vote for McCain.

Weak, weak, weak. Please come again. You should get a spot on Fix News, Jim. They’re floundering and looking quite silly as well. She lost and like a good party follower, she throws her support behind Obama. Let’s give the man an opportunity to lead the country. We gave Dubya that same opportunity, despite the GOP’s theft of it 2000 and Kerry’s swiftboating in ‘04. Look at us now….

I suppose I neglected to address Jim’s implicit argument – if, hypothetically, Obama wins this year, will Hillary challenge in 2012?

If Obama implements even a small portion of the declared democrat agenda, the economy will be dismally failing in four years (you can see how it has performed with nothing more than minimum wage and mandatory ethanol in lieu of gasoline – think of those results multiplied. E.g., no drilling, no nukes, gut national defense. No reductions in domestic spending, indeed likely increases in the numbers of bureaucrats and other nonworking recipients of government subsidies.)

If Obama wages foreign policy along the lines suggested by his response to the Georgian invasion, there will be many more of those.

If Obama appoints more of the Kelo- and child-rapist-style judges, Americans will be in open rebellion against their supreme court, much as was the case in the late 1960s.

I forecast conditions ripe for an internal challenge, much like the 1976 republican primary season or the 1980 democrat primary season. She’ll be back.

This column sounds like a pitiful attempt to salvage some kind of silver lining for Republicans. Face it. This year, you are going to lose the White House. The only branch of the federal government you’ll have left is the Supreme Court.

The Republicans handed the Congress and the White House to the Dems because they failed to be responsible leaders. And failed miserably.

Well, I watched Hillary’s speech. She is one of the best political speakers of this decade. She can deliver a fiery speech without a misstep and without a teleprompter (or so it seemed). There was a bit of drivel, those tearjerk stories that could have been deleted, but the delivery was almost impeccable. That said, I WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR HER.

She has an over powering drive to make a socialist America with citizens as orphans of the government. Her health plan is already in her files. She will be around a long time, ready to lay socialism on the line. She has now committed herself to pushing the wishy washy Obama to promote socialism.

As to her lack of husbandly attention, she is the symbol of female independence. Bill Clinton was the stair step to her ambitions. She overlooked his marital transgressions with her future in mind. Now she hardly needs him. Why mention him?

So watch out politicos. The fox is waiting outside the chicken house and the unwary will be eaten. Hillary is waiting!!

I am a lifelong Democrat and a Senator Clinton supporter. I will NOT vote for Senator Obama in November. He was ‘chosen’ by Howard Dean years ago to be the nominee. The primaries were sculpted according to Dean’s script. I will write in for Senator Clinton or vote for Ralph Nader. Obama is an empty suit and a dirty Chicago politican. Dear ATL @ 9:30, I think you are partially right in your analysis. The Supreme Court is not yet conservative, viz Kelo and the child-rapists cases. The leftist majorities in those cases disprove your argument. I think you paint with a brush too broad in your analysis of the Congress from 1994-2006; I would bifurcate the analysis.

By anyone’s measures, the Republican stewardship under Mr. Newt’s leadership was a great success – the economy sprang to life from the dead democrat leadership days. After Mr. Newt left, the Republicans degenerated into democrat-style big spending (Agriculture and Education the most noteworthy wastes, and perhaps Homeland Security although the latter arguably staunched further terrorist attacks in the US) and democrat-style trade management (steel tariffs were an excellent example of corporate welfare). I think the Republican initiative to punish our Mexican guest workers contributed mightily to their eviction by the American people, for frivolousness.

I support the Democratic party because that party has done more to help women achieve their independence than the Republican party, and they continue to fight for the rights of women. Note some of the comments made by Hillary in her speech last night. Reread it if you need to refresh your feeble memory.

If the Republican party ever got over being the old white’s man’s and the religious nutjob’s party, I might consider joining. But I doubt that will happen in my lifetime. I firmly believe the Republican party is in for a decline. Younger voters don’t relate to it because the party platform continues to be mired in yesterday’s ideas. Kind of like Mrs. Godzilla at 10:30 looking over get over its’ shoulder in Denver to police the PUMAS

Dusty, No one is an island we are all interdependent on one and other so blanket clauses like free as a bird are a bit much.

I think the difference is really where our tax money goes into the village.

Do we provide transportation, security, grants, loans, tax breaks, and legal aid for companies to prosper and hire citizens; or do we provide the same directly to the citizens to become educated commodities for the companies to use?

Answer, “neither.” The “provision” is a federal jobs program. The only goal the government can accomplish is the transfer of money from those who earn it to those who sell services to the government.

From the sour look on Michelle Obama’s face most of the speech, it looked like she thought much the same.

The Hil-da-beast will rise again. She is the only hope Dems have. The dream of Barack Hussein Obama is just that… a dream. A dream of a weak candidate that was bullied into being the Dems candidate only to be riddled with questions about his character, judgement, and affiliations. At least with the Hil-da-beast you know that 50% of the population hate her and 50% love her. Cant say that much for the dream team BHO/Biden. John McCain is the luckiest sob to have such weak opposition. In the Dem party unity wont happen because of the inherent nature of a liberal. To a liberal there is an I in team.

McCain gets my vote not by being my candidate of choice, but because he is the best of the worse. When the Hil-da-beast runs in 2012 lets hope a true conservative such as Jindal or Stanford is the candidate.

I guarantee you all that this will be the last two party presidential election if Obama loses. If Obama loses it will in fact be because HRC’s support was half hearted at best, and current Obama supporters will not hesitate to return the favor should she run in 2012. Thus the result will be another 8-12 years of Republican control. That’s the truth people.

The Democratic party will be no more as we know it. Mark my words.

Dusty, “You are such an authority,” pretty much covers it all. You go girl!

RD I think the commerce clause, the most abused, covers transportation and legal aid. Security as in common defense is the one true job of any government. Those two are equal for all citizens. The transfer of wealth is two-way. The GOP proposes tax cuts and grants to business, meaning I have to pay more personally. The DNC proposes tax cuts and grants to their causes and less fortunate citizens, meaning I have to pay more personally. I do not quibble the point of who is worse; I just understand that there are no politician’s that in Jesus’ view should be casting the first stone.

And for the Ron Paul backers, he lost it when he said he votes against pork but doesn’t have a problem with his district getting their fair share.

Why do liberals and Democrats like Hillary point to the audience and wave like they are actually acknowledging a real person or something? Just how stupid do they think we are? For those mindless sheeple in the audience sucking that up, the answer is pretty self explanatory.

Some 80,000 supporters will see Obama appear from between plywood columns painted off-white, reminiscent of Washington’s Capitol building or even the White House, to accept the party’s nomination for president.

That guy really believes he’s the Appointed One to be our next president, doesn’t he? Don’t bank on it Barack, your Biden pick just sent McCain ahead of you in the polls - and this is right smack in the middle of the DNC convention.

Typical Jim Wooten drivel. Hillary Clinton graduated an Ivy-league law school at the top of her class. She got elected Senator and has served with distinction. She narrowly missed becoming the first female candidate for President (of a major party, at least). And she gave a wonderful, powerful speech last night with the whole world watching. And to Jim Wooten, she’s suspect because she didn’t define herself as a “wife’ and “mother,” apparently the only 2 roles that are acceptable for women in his worldview. I think Jim wants to build a Bridge to the 18th Century.

Common Sense did you really say terrorism is played up? I was a soph. in college on 9/11/01 but that was not played up in any way. Some of you have such short memories. I strongly disagree with the job that Pres. Bush has done however there has been a democratic congress for the last 2 years, and check your facts and stats that time period is when things took a sharp decline downward. I think some of you forget how hard of a job and responsibility being President of the USA is. This is not an easy job that any of you could do, most the people on this blog are not fit to be president of their local high schools prom committee, including myself. Therfor whoever gets elected in my opinion is in for a long hard 4 years, and I do not think either will be re-elceted after 4 years.

If sure is fun watching Dimocrats continue to tear each other apart over Barack vs. Hillary. By the way, is this a convention to nominate Barack or to watch the Clintons talk about themselves?

As for Michelle Obama’s speech, she said she loves her country. Contrasted to what she said a few months ago about it, I’ll truly believe it after she says the same thing after her husband loses to McCain.

Anyone else get the feeling that about half the Dimwits at the convention are having serious issues with who they chose to be the presidential nominee? Oh wait, it was the (DNC) media that did that selecting.

Is around 240 days not enough time to kinda figure out how to read memos that state some people may crash planes into buildings?

So at what point WOULD you consider it long enough where the sitting president would be a little responsible? 1 year? 2 years? 6 years? If another attack happened today, would it still be Bill Clinton’s fault?
