Hillary; a coy Lewis; quitting time

  • Based on exit polls, Hillary Clinton is a shoo-in for president —- in a nation of 74-year-olds with a sixth-grade education. Otherwise, this campaign’s dying. Ohio and Texas on March 4 could be the final gasp —- though she’s leading in both now.

  • Republicans who want to pass the buck pretend that on tax increases they’re just giving the people a voice by running them out as proposed constitutional amendments. Yet that same line of thinking doesn’t apply to, say, the proposed Human Life Amendment debated in the House this week or to Sunday liquor sales or to any of the other hot-button questions of the day. I’m not suggesting that they should, merely that legislators are playing a game with voters on taxes. They should vote now the way you’d vote in November. Be honest.

  • Accidents on interstates through Atlanta will now be handled by the Georgia State Patrol and not Atlanta police. That should, in fact, be the policy statewide: The state patrol polices interstates; locals police city and county roads. Every law that gives law enforcement officers a financial incentive to write tickets, or place red-light cameras, should be changed to remove financial incentives from enforcement.

  • Dang. Some laws are just not necessary. State Sen. Judson Hill (R-Marietta) introduces a bill to keep state pension fund managers from investing in Iran or Sudan. It’s called the “No Georgia Dollars to Terrorists Bill.” No public pension fund manager in Georgia knowingly invests in terrorists. For my part, I’d rather they spend their time and my tax dollars investigating returns.

  • State Rep. Sharon Beasley-Teague (D-Red Oak) in one day drove from Fairburn to Albany (173 miles, three hours) to Waycross (114 miles, two hours), to Savannah (129 miles, two hours), to Athens (257 miles, four hours), to Dillard (81 miles, 1 1/2 hours) to Fairburn (134 miles, 2 1/2 hours), putting her behind the wheel —- no food or bathroom breaks —- for 15 hours. Beasley-Teague may claim the one-day record, but the fiscal-year record goes to former State Sen. Roscoe Dean of Jesup, who made 254 round-trips between Jesup and Atlanta in 1974, when he drove a total of 72,696 miles on official business. Dean, first elected at age 28, and a candidate for governor in 1982, eventually wound up in prison —- though the charges stemming from his travel resulted in a hung jury.

  • Since we’re being honest, I’ve got to tell you that it’s despicable to use the names or images of dead soldiers who are somebody else’s sons or daughters to make political statements about the war —- as a couple on West Paces Ferry Road does. Parents, spouses and even siblings can express their grief as they please —- and I’ll not say a word.

  • The world breathlessly awaits: WWJD. What will John do? Lewis, that is. Congressman, Atlanta. Hillary or Obama? Anybody care? His support for Hillary didn’t do much for her in the Georgia primary.

  • Elected officials should not create charitable foundations or take a management interest in somebody else’s, as Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle has done with the charity that’s now called “Presence With a Purpose.” The risk is that contributions will come from those who have a policy interest in the elected official’s decisions. And of course, as we’ve seen with Atlanta’s once-promising councilman Lamar Willis, the operation of them can be a major embarrassment.

  • So 35,000 government-issued trailers occupied by Katrina evacuees may be dangerous because of formaldehyde? And what of those occupied by purchasers who’ve been using them for years? The feds didn’t check those —- presumably because the paying customers weren’t complaining or demanding upgrades.

  • A charter bus operator pulled into a convenience store parking lot in Corsicana, Texas, and abandoned her load of 40 former prisoners. Reason? It was 4 p.m., and that’s her quitting time. I would express outrage, but it’s approaching 6 p.m. and that’s my quitting ti

How about using the destroyed face of someone else’s soldier son or daughter “to score political points” in a Presidential debate, Jim? Is that off limits too? What if using that face brings a tear to one’s eye; is it OK under that circumstance?

Good morning, Jim

We know that the Georgia General Assembly has reached its level of total incompetence when valuable legislative time is wasted on the question of whether or not to issue a prestige automobile tag honoring the Florida gators!

Hell, most of legislating is like a tailgate party anyway.

While I wouldn’t count her out just yet, Hillary is looking weaker and weaker. Of course, The New York Times may be able to come up with a story about Barack Obama having an affair with his kindergarten teacher. That should put her back on top!

For all you folks who think that tax reform is going to happen…either here in Georgia or nationally…I have news for you. It is! We are all going to pay more!

It is a great life, if you don’t weaken.

Don’t re-elect anyone.

Take a ride down I-75 toward the border on the weekend. You’ll see half, or more, of the local sheriff’s department out looking to increase their county’s income.

Regarding the bus driver - state and federal safety laws cap the number of hours the driver can be behind the wheel. I have been stuck on buses and light rails more times than I care to think about when the driver had to stop because they hit that magic number. If they drive after that time, not only can they lose their jobs, they can be arrested. I wonder if Mr. Wooten has the same problem if he works beyond 6:00.

Funny, Mr. Wooten doesn’t seem to mind when politicians use 9/11 to score points.

THE Captain agrees with Jim and Glenn that people should not be allowed to talk about dead or injured soldiers in a way that reminds us of the cost of war. That way lies sentiment, which leads to compassion, which leads inexorably to opposition to Our Leader’s Permanent War on Terror, wich of course only encourages the evil doers to take advantage of the current lapse in the warrantless wiretapping program. In fact, THE Captain expected all of us to be dead by now, what with the gaping hole in our national security created by denying the telcos immunity for their illegal actions. Anyway, we should only speak of soldiers, living or dead, in terms that highlight their noble sacrfice and glorious cause. Anything else is treasonous. The obvious exception is for still living soldiers who disagree with We of True Belief; these traitors should expect to see their names dragged through the mud. It is the Right Thing to do.

As to Jim’s admonition against elected officials forming non-profit organizations, THE Captain agrees. However, this prohibition should not extend to the wives of elected officials, such as the lovely Cindy McCain. The poor woman had her needs, and we would not want her trolling the streets for prescription drugs in the manner of the Godly Rush. Laura Bush has set a standard for the modern First Lady who has become dependent on Mother’s Little Helper. Cindy McCain need only follow her lead.

THE Captain apologizes for the brevity and paucity of today’s offering, but He is rather shagged out after His masterful summation of yesterday’s McCain kerfuffle. Kind of like Jim, apparently.

Once again the double standard of the Repukes and most especially of John (He who has destroyed five navy jets and killed 138 American sailors, mostly in practice, mostly) McCain. According to the Repukes, political fund raising should be restricted for Democrats, but not for rich, fat cat Repukes who support the jet-destroying John McCancer Face. The fat cat repuke money is in the 527 exempt organizations that McCancer Face will use to smear the Democrats. Democrats should make no agreements with Repukes, rather we should make this election a War of Political Extermination, driving ALL repukes from office via the ballot box. Make it so…

Well, I’m 100% with Wooten.

We don’t need to see people using pictures of dead soldiers to make their point. We need to keep hiding the bodies, the way we do when they come back in the middle of the night on planes. Don’t let the librul press make pictures of the caskets sliding down a ramp. Just talk about how brave our soldiers are and Patriotic and how we are at war with the towel-heads and need to support My President in his war. Just kind of be like Sister Dusty. Call everybody that don’t agree with the war a Trader that wants us to lose and give up our Freedom and then go shopping or maybe looking at somebody elses pee or blood.

Anyway, the missus watched the debate last night. I had my back turned and earplugs in, like I always do when people are on I don’t agree with. The missus says the debate was a kind of stand-off. I figure we lose no matter which Democrat canadate wins, so I’m forced to support this librul McCain just to Save My Country. That is, unless they come up with proof he was doing You Know What with that lobby woman. Its pretty hard to beleive, seeing that he can barely make it to a podium and looks like a nursing home inmate. My buddy Jim Earl says if McCain had of tryed something with that lobby woman it would of been a case of Assault with a Dead Weapon.

Anyhow, old Rush took up for McCain yesterday and Rush is never wrong so that’s good enough for me. If there had of been something on McCain, Fox News would of told me, because all the rest of the channels ain’t Fair and Balanced. I don’t turn my back or use earplugs when it comes to Fox News.

Well, I got beer to stock bars up with for the weekend, and I don’t see nothing else intrusting in Wootens column. Have a good weekend everybody.

As the article made clear, the couple on West Paces Ferry asked for and received the permission of the soldier’s family before posting his picture. It also was clear that the picture made the protest personal, the shared loss of that young man real. The power of that tiny sting of the family’s grief, just the faint wake of regret as drivers zip past that face, changed people’s attitudes towards the couple’s protest and made viewers think about what we have demanded and received from our troops in harm’s way. Mr. Wooten calls sharing that emotional response “despicable” for all but “parents, spouses and even siblings”, preferring that the dead remain faceless, nameless and unmourned by the rest of us the better to subvert questions as to why they died.

When I read Mr. Wooten’s opinion, all I could think of was John Donne’s Meditation 17: “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”

Being out of ear shot does not mean that the bell isn’t tolling.

After watching Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama last night in the Austin Texas debates, it is evident that there is not a candidate worthy of my vote. John McCain is out of the question. I’m not going to vote for a war monger, period. Maybe I will write in Ron Paul.

I don’t know whether you all have noticed it or not. It is amazing how the Negroes are preoccupied with the candidacy of Barack Obama. Collectively, the Negroes in America do not have a pot to p** in. What groups of people have collectively among themselves, banks, farms, industries, corporations, businesses, major institutions of higher learning, determines the amount of respect, freedom, and security in the real world. It has nothing to do with who is the President of the United States.

The Negroes are powerless. They look to other groups of people to service their basic needs, food, clothing, shelter, education, employment, etc. The price for allowing other groups to assume this sacred rite is lack of honor, dignity, respect, love, freedom and security.

This suggests in no uncertain terms that Negroes have resigned themselves to the position of volunteer slaves in the United States of America.

No white President, Hillary Clinton or John McCain, or mongrel, Barack Obama can alter any ethnic group’s voluntary chosen condition.

While THE Captain appreciates the solid and sober opinions of truth (not to be confused with the ranting nutter from jolly ole England), He wishes to take a stand on one issue that will no doubt draw vitriol and contumely upon THE Captain’s perfectly developed head. No matter. THE Captain is a fearless Keyboard Kommando, and boldly rushes forth where angels fear to tread.

THE Captain is not a Libertarian, or as His friends on the golf course so amusingly jibe, an “Idiotarian”. THE Captain is a Godly True Belief Conservative, and He is proud to say so. People who call themselves Libertarian are really just Conservatives who are either i) pathetic atheistofascists or ii) people who are ashamed to align themselves with Our Leader, the Glorious George Maximus Bush. Well, THE Captain says to the first group, “You can go straight to he11, and when Satan is probing your rectum with his spiky dongle while you float in a lake of everlasting fire and torment, you will be sorry you ever doubted the existence of a loving and merciful God who was forced to send you to hell for your disbelief.

To the second group, THE Captain says, “Come on in, the water is fine.” We who embrace George Maximus are conservatives who know that the sole purpose of government is to “conserve” the wealth that those of us who already have, um, have, and intend to keep, even if that means borrowing billions of dollars from China to wage a Permanent War on Brown People. Calling yourself a Libertarian is just a chicken-sh!t way of pretending you are not One of Us. Kind of like liberals pretending that they are not all Islamo-loving communistic homos.

THE Captain certainly does not wish to alienate a stalwart ally who serves up abuse to the liberal sodomites, even if said allies do have the demostrably low intellect of writers like truth and Lydia’s Dad. However, gentlemen, it does not take intelligence to decalre oneself a Proud Common Sense Conservative. Quite the contrary. Jim Wooten is interesting this morning. But first, there’s Grandpa RedNeck muttering around @9:37

He’s so old he makes John McCain look like a youngster. Missus RedNeck has to run a warm iron over RedNeck every morning to get the wrinkles out. And load a beer truck?!! He’s hardly able to pick up a golf ball.

But old RedNeck is really proud of Grandson Sonny Zell, who’s 25 years old and still in grammar school. Just a family tradition.

Grandpa RedNeck may be related to the expatriot Captain Freefall. Both of them picture themselves as liberal undercover agents (who never served in the military) and both use the same material. If only they were not so obvious. Libs love them anyway, lies and all.

Back to Wooten later.

Sadly once again the election will come down to a choice of the lesser of two evils.
I have many opinions regarding the candidates - mainly though I would like to know that they mean what they say and that they will do what they are promising. However, the reality of this is simply - it will not happen.

The debate provided the voters the chance to see what is truly happening. On candidate is being straight forward and transparent and the other is changing tactics, slogans, stratiges, personnel, surrogates, and now super delegates. The one facit of all of this is destiny! We often forget that some things in life are going to happen and we have to some times sit back and watch what unfolds, not knowning why or the reason but just being a part of history. There are so many countless examples of that type of occurence, but think about Tiger Woods. His arrival on the scene and his level of greatness has affected the whole world almost overnight, transforming opinions and attitude about work ethic, intelligence, proficientcy, smarts, and cool under fire. Barak Obama exibits these strong characteristics and is being moved by a stream of destiny that can not be stopped. We will see history and the resputation of this nation restored to stature, commitment, accomplishment, inclusion, compassion, strength, leadership, a cohesivve society in harmony in this republic. Even though there may be tornados waiting, the sun will come out tomorrow when the storm has passed.

Here comes Dusty again with her indefensible slander that THE Captain and the Inbred Convert are one in the same. And while saying “Dusty is wrong” is about as remarkable as saying “salt is salty”, THE Captain must defend his reputation against such an unseemly simile.

THE Captain admires the Yahoo Redneck’s attempts at posting coherently in support of Our Leader and his Inerrancy. That a man of such obviously decimated intellect (though not as degraded as, say, The truth or Lydia’s Dad or Realist) would make the effort to post when he clearly lacks even a passing familiarity with the English language is to be commended, though ultimately, alas, to be ignored.

For while the Knuckledragger from the trailer park has his heart in the right place, he presents an inaccurate picture of True Believers as a gaggle of ill-bred, unwashed sister-f^ckers. Nothing could be farther from the truth, and while I was unable to reach Dusty’s brother for a denial, I feel sure he never dallied in that pasture. And THE Captain is an only child, thank you very much.

So, while the Redneck’s daughter may also be his sister, and thus his grandchild Sonny Zell also his nephew, he is a reliable vote for Common Sense candidates. If only he would have the decency to be quiet about it. His atrocious spelling, unproper grammar, and general slack-jawed yokelism disturbs my beautiful mind.

My father, husband and son all served in the military, two in wartime. Our family was fortunate in having no fatalities.

But if we had and someone came wanting to post a picture of my loved ones to protest a war in which we were fighting for the USA, I would think I was talking to a bunch supporting our enemies.

Don’t tell me about “rights”. I have them too. But I don’t use them to undermine this country in some kind of antiwar protest aka non-support of the American military.

Senor Wooten is perfectly correct to have a little smirk/snigger at this arrogant pompous tw@t’s ludicrous leftist arrogance.

Why don’t lewis and his ilk actually meaningfully intervene in black run areas where typical sullen black racist corruption and arrogant indolent systematic incompetence - e.g. Clayton County and the City of Atlanta’s self serving budgetary greed have led to entirely predicktable problems for ordinary folks very poorly served by grasping blacks on the make politically.

Its freaking hiLLarious to see the new haughty snotty coretta scott king klone Mrs cocaine sniffer Obama Osama having to desperately backtrack on her implicitly racebaiting bile about NOT being proud of her country. This sullen cow is goint to cost Obama Osama Hussein more than a few votes come November.

The awkward, cold hard facts that the witless manic leftist scum who support this far left surrender monkey seem deleriously oblivious too is that the folks in the USA ALWAYS electorally spit in the face of far left liberal scum who run for the White House. To Charles…

While I think HOW you’ve written your comment is a bit harsh, I understand your overall point and agree to an extent.

I am a black woman (28)college educated in Atlanta. I own two homes, drive an 08 passat, am raising my son without his father or gvmt assistance ever…I worked two jobs to support him until I was financially able to quit one. If I didn’t have it my parents helped willingly so I didn’t have to use gvmnt help. I’ve had a blessed like and will continue to have one I have been truly disappointed in those of my race who have jumped on the Obama bandwagon for no other reason than he’s black….

For YEARS my race especially those of my age or younger have been classified as lazy, uneducated, not willing to stand for anything, looking for handouts, etc….And many did little to nothing to proove others wrong. (Of course there were and are the exceptions, myself and others I know as an example).

NOW my race and age group want to go to the polls in mass numbers…for what??? Why??? b/c there’s a black man running for office???? Please…That’s crap. Yes, support a black man who’s qualified and be able to give a reason other than “why not, b/c he’s black or we want change”. I expect all of them who ran out in mass numbers to support Obama to continue supporting their blacks trying to advance in their LOCAL arenas. Run for student government positions. Sit on committes in your corporate offices to make a name for yourself. ( I did all of these things and continue to do so today)….Otherwise, blacks as a whole are no more than what Charles has indicated…..

This will be a real test for many….

The Post Office sent a letter yesterday to all postal patrons saying “Identiy theft is a serious crime.” I agree with them, even on blogs.

If you thieves of any kind are not criminals, you certainly are cowards. Losers!

The story behind Presence with a Purpose isn’t so much about the potential for graft. The story is the arrogant power grab by Casey Cagle. The woman that started the charity in 2003 apparently made a big mistake in approaching Cagle for a donation. Cagle got completely carried away with it and has claimed the organization as his own.

Per Cagle’s website - “I launched my charity of choice Presence with a Purpose May 19th, 2007 at the Gwinnett Convention Center.”

Reading the whole story will make you sick.

THE Captain commends The truth for the kind of decisive lack of subtlety in thought that makes Our Nation repsected around the world. No shades of grey here, just Common Sense.

And the liberalism=communism tagline. Priceless. There is no way to answer such a charge, as its off-the-charts lunacy will leave the average fact-based liberal sputtering. Bravo.

But THE Captain thought The truth equates liberalism with fascism. Somewhere, there is a disconnect. THE Captain prays that this disconnect does not describe the hinges on the truth’s mind, but fears the worst. Such a senseless waste of human life.

THE Captain had wished that today would not require so much heavy lifting. Mr Wooten’s column gave hope that it would be quiet here today, as nothing he wrote seemed capable of moving the EEG needle even a scoche. But despite the lack of pulse in Jim’s column, such respite it is not to be, and THE Captain is forced to rise to the defense of decency yet again.

THE Captain was well disturbed to hear of the indictment of the Godly McCain co-chair Rick Renzi. Why, no sooner has Bob Ney been released from prison than the out-of-control liberal Justice Department begins its railroading of yet another True Beleiever. Truly, this crusade is Worse Than Waco.

Well, THE Captain saw news of this on several news outlets, and verily, He was sinking into despiar, until He had an inspiration. THE Captain hurried to the web sites of the NY Times and CBS, and sure enough, there was the news of Righteous Renzi’s indictment. And since it appeared on those two anti-American stinkypot liar liar websites, THE Captain was relieved of any obligation to believe a word of it. Because if the NY Communist Zion Times says anything bad about True Believers, we can rest assured that it is part of the Islamofascistoliberlesbian conspiracy to turn our nation over to gays, darkies, women, hispanics, and that entire 75% of the nation that is not Christian White Male, and ergo, destined to control Our Nation. It is in the Declaration of Independence. You can look it up.

Now, if the GOP could somehow avoid the taint of scandal for a few minutes, THE Captain feels the need for a little nap. Defending freedom is no small task.

I just learned how The Captain earned his rank! He’s Captain of his junior high school debate team.

That’s why he’s given to potty humor and taunts about penis size and f* jokes. I know you are, Captain, but what am I?

And that’s why, far from taking offense when people use dead and gravely injured troops as capital for unctuous vote-buying, “Captain” himself exploits the fallen as mere insinuations that those who support the military’s efforts are afraid to confront the face of war. How’s that for pre-adolescent logic?

Glenn,

Those of us who support the war are more than capable of facing the realities of war. In fact, people like you and THE Captain revel in these outcomes. To take just one example, a Brave Soldier struggling to rebuild a life absent a limb or vital organ gives us visceral vicarious vainglory that truly makes life worth living.

It is those who oppose the war who are de facto unfit to grapple with the costs of war. For unlike brave keyboard warriors like ourselves, Glenn, these namby pamby traitors are given to inexplicable feelings of empathy and sorrow, and end up opposing a perfectly good war on shaky emotionalist grounds. If only they realized that we have to break eggs to get a freedom omelette, and that our troops are those eggs. And they’re good eggs, dammit, and THE Captain dares anyone to say otherwise. Because if one questions Our Leader, one is directly insulting our eggs.

So, keep the reality of war out of the mass media, where weakkneed sob sisters might get a glimpse. Not everyone has as strong a stomach for freedom as you and Dusty and THE Captain.

So until you are ready to decry the President and his cabal who took us into this war on pretense, who perpetuate it with no regard to cost vs. necessity, and who use it as a prop for their political propoganda, take your Hillary hate and suck on it. Dusty is unintentionally funny a lot of the time. I liked this gem:

“Don’t tell me about “rights”. I have them too. But I don’t use them to undermine this country in some kind of antiwar protest aka non-support of the American military.”

So, Dusty’s warped little mind, “rights” are okay—as long as you don’t use them in a way the government doesn’t like! Oh, that’s a knee-slapper right there. Whew!

With minds like this on the Republican side, I am SOOOOO glad to be a liberal! And even happier that our inevitable victory this fall is going to make this country great again—to Dusty’s dismay and outrage, of course.

The Debate Reviews Are In A few debate reviews below….our guy really did great tonight!

Obama won the debate. This was his best debate performance yet!

MSNBC (Jonathan Alter): Obama won.

Hotline – On Call: …Barack Obama wins the night — and the momentum in his direction continues.

Atlantic (Marc Ambinder): … The Debate Belongs To Obama LINK

TIME (Mark Halperin): Mark Halperin’s Grades: Obama B+, Clinton B

NBC (Chuck Todd) : …Obama set the tone LINK

CNN (Donna Brazile): …And look, Barack Obama tonight was exceptional- he was presidential, he was poised, he was calm. He had the poetry, but he also had the prose. He put the substance ahead of, you know, perhaps some of the rhetorical flourishes that he’s capable of giving. He was good; so, you can’t deny him that.

CNN (Gloria Borger): …Tonight, you saw Barack Obama as a very credible commander in chief.

Politico (Ben Smith): Obama has come prepared to talk about substance, and offers detailed personal anecdotes, not more abstract oration, for most of his opening statement, before pivoting to the question of who can unify the country to get it done. LINK

CNN (David Gergen): … Barack Obama is dramatically better as a debater than he was a few months ago. I thought he was excellent.

I Refuse to Buy into the Obama Hype (now a supporter) by Grassroots Mom

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 05:13:32 PM PST

From: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/20/201332/807/36/458633

….

I went to the Library of Congress Website. The FACTS of what each did in the Senate last year sure surprised me. I’m sure they will surprise you, too. Whether you love or hate Hillary, you will be surprised. Whether you think Obama is the second coming of JFK or an inexperienced lightweight, you will surprised. Go check out the Library of Congress Website. After spending some time there, it will be clear that there is really only one candidate who is ready to be the next president, even better than Gore. If you don’t want to spend an hour or two doing research, then I’ll tell you what I discovered on the jump.

I looked up Obama and looked up Clinton. I looked at the bills that they both authored and introduced. Anyone who has been around politics, and is honest, realizes that there are a lot of reasons why a Senator votes one way or another on bills or misses votes. However an examination of the bills that each of these Senators cared enough about to author and introduce revealed much to me: what they care about, what their priorities are, how they tackle problems. And the list of co-sponsors showed something about how they lead, inspire and work with others. Finally, looking at which bills actually passed is pretty indicative of how effective each would be at getting things done.

Before I get into the nitty gritty, let’s all be honest here. It is damn hard to get anything through Congress these days. And Obama and Clinton care about the same issues and have obviously worked together on a lot of legislation, whatever Sen. Clinton’s campaign may imply. She is a frequent co-sponsor on his bills, and he on hers. They are both completely competent senators.

I started with Sen. Clinton.

I’m not a Hillary Hater, but I certainly didn’t like her much either. I didn’t like her DLC history; her votes on Iraq, Iran or the bankruptcy bill; her characterization of the years she spent as First Lady as “executive experience.” Hillary Clinton is no Eleanor Roosevelt. Perhaps more like Lady Bird Johnson. Hillary claims to have brought us SCHIP (with a little help from Ted Kennedy). Lady Bird brought us Head Start as well as cleaner, nicer highways. Anyone 40 or older probably remembers when the nation’s highways were basically disgusting garbage dumps lined with billboards. But no one thinks Lady Bird should have been president. Might as well argue for Barbara Bush because of her efforts on family literacy, or Nancy Reagan and the War on Drugs.

Hillary Clinton does have a solid record in the Senate, however.

I came away from my research really knowing a lot more about what is important to Hillary in her heart: kids and their well being. My research changed my feeling about her significantly. About 40% of her bills dealt with health care and/or kids. As a mom with small kids, I like her passion for children’s issues. But curiously, her big bill to deliver health care to every child, the one she lauds on her website, S.895 : “A bill to amend titles XIX and XXI of the Social Security Act to ensure that every child in the United States has access to affordable, quality health insurance coverage, and for other purposes” had not a single co-sponsor. Not one, according to the Library of Congress. Why is that? Is it a bad bill? Or is she not able to recruit support for her signature issue? Or did she just submit it simply to put in the hopper, so to speak, so she could claim she was working on it. I honestly don’t know the answer, but I find it curious and suspicious that not even Ted Kennedy co-sponsored it. Its sister bill in the house, H.R. 1535, introduced by John Dingell has 42 co-sponsors. It’s just weird. I honestly don’t know what to make of it.

S.895 was major. But most of her other bills are much smaller in scale and scope — more targeted and more careful.

For example, she introduced one bill that offered tax credits for building owners who clean up lead paint. Which is a very good thing. And Obama is a co-sponsor. “S.1793 : A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide a tax credit for property owners who remove lead-based paint hazards.”

Obama’s anti-lead bill (S. 1306) directed the Consumer Product Safety Commission to classify certain children’s products containing lead as banned hazardous substances. He had another bill prohibitting the interstate transport of children’s products containing lead. (S.2132) And Hillary co-sponsored each of these.

In other words, they both care about protecting children from lead.

The difference is in the scope and the approach.

Barack Obama’s Plan to Protect Social Security

Obama is committed to ensuring Social Security is solvent and viable for the American people, now and in the future. Obama will be honest with the American people about the long-term solvency of Social Security and the ways we can address the shortfall. Obama will protect Social Security benefits for current and future beneficiaries alike. And he does not believe it is necessary or fair to hardworking seniors to raise the retirement age. Obama is strongly opposed to privatizing Social Security.

Obama believes that the first place to look for ways to strengthen Social Security is the payroll tax system. Currently, the Social Security payroll tax applies to only the first $97,500 a worker makes. Obama supports increasing the maximum amount of earnings covered by Social Security and he will work with Congress and the American people to choose a payroll tax reform package that will keep Social Security solvent for at least the next half century.

Strengthen Retirement Savings Reform Corporate Bankruptcy Laws to Protect Workers and Retirees: Current bankruptcy laws protect banks before workers. Obama will protect pensions by putting promises to workers higher on the list of debts that companies cannot shed; ensuring that the bankruptcy courts do not demand more sacrifice from workers than executives; telling companies that they cannot issue executive bonuses while cutting worker pensions; increasing the amount of unpaid wages and benefits workers can claim in court; and limiting the circumstances under which retiree benefits can be reduced. Require Full Disclosure of Company Pension Investments: Obama will ensure that all employees who have company pensions receive detailed annual disclosures about their pension fund’s investments. This will provide retirees important resources to make their pension fund more secure. Eliminate Income Taxes for Seniors Making Less Than $50,000: Obama will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This will provide an immediate tax cut averaging $1,400 to 7 million seniors and relieve millions from the burden of filing tax returns. Create Automatic Workplace Pensions: Obama’s retirement security plan will automatically enroll workers in a workplace pension plan. Under his plan, employers who do not currently offer a retirement plan, will be required to enroll their employees in a direct-deposit IRA account that is compatible to existing direct-deposit payroll systems. Employees may opt-out if they choose. Experts estimate that this program will increase the savings participation rate for low and middle-income workers from its current 15 percent level to around 80 percent. Expand Retirement Savings Incentives for Working Families: Obama will ensure savings incentives are fair to all workers by creating a generous savings match for low and middle-income Americans. His plan will match 50 percent of the first $1,000 of savings for families that earn less than $75,000. The savings match will be automatically deposited into designated personal accounts. Over 80 percent of these savings incentives will go to new savers. Prevent Age Discrimination: Obama will fight job discrimination for aging employees by strengthening the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and empowering the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to prevent all forms of discrimination. Affordable Health Care Provide Cheaper Prescription Drugs: Our seniors pay the highest prices in the world for brand-name drugs. To lower drug costs, Obama will allow the federal government to negotiate for lower drug prices for the Medicare program, just as it does to lower prices for our veterans. He also supports allowing seniors to import safe prescription drugs from overseas, and will prevent pharmaceutical companies from blocking cheap and safe generic drugs from the market. Protect and Strengthen Medicare: Obama is committed to the long-term strength of the Medicare program. He will reduce waste in the Medicare system, including eliminating subsidies to the private insurance Medicare Advantage program, and tackle fundamental health care reform to improve the quality and efficiency of our healthcare system. Obama supports closing the “doughnut hole” in the Medicare Part D prescription drug program. Provide Transparency to Medicare Prescription Drug Plans: Many seniors are enrolled in Medicare prescription drug plans that are actually more expensive for them than other available plans. Obama will require companies to send Medicare beneficiaries a full list of the drugs and fees they paid the previous year to help seniors determine which plans can better reduce their out-of-pocket costs and improve their health. Strengthen Long-Term Care Options: As president, Obama will work to give seniors choices about their care, consistent with their needs, and not biased towards institutional care. He will work to reform the financing of long term care to protect seniors and families. He will work to improve the quality of elder care, including by training more nurses and health care workers. Protect and Honor Seniors Ensure Heating Assistance: Obama will increase funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) which helps low-income citizens — many of them seniors — pay their winter heating and summer cooling bills. Support Senior Volunteer Efforts: Retired Americans have a wide range of skills and knowledge to contribute to local and national public service efforts. Obama will engage more interested seniors into public service opportunities by expanding and improving programs like Senior Corps to connect seniors with quality volunteer opportunities.

Don’t know if DeKalb Commisioner Elaine Boyer was following Cagle’s lead, but she also established a fake booster club at Lakeside High School in order to receive a donation she solicited from the Sembler Corporation to buy new cheerleading uniforms for her daughter’s squad. While Boyer claimed the club was a nonprofit, the Sec. of State’s office has no record that it was ever registered as such. Boyer conveniently ignored the fact that the DeKalb system was in negotiations with Sembler over selling school propery. Worse, she gave the finger to the taxpayers of DeKalb by soliciting and accepting the donation from Sembler, whose business she has voted on and would be voting on in the future. “Charity” to a government official means “get what you can while you can.”

Barack Obama’s Plan Enable All Americans to Serve to Meet the Nation’s Challenges Expand Corporation for National and Community Service:

Obama will expand AmeriCorps from 75,000 slots today to 250,000 and he will focus this expansion on addressing the great challenges facing the nation. He will establish a Classroom Corps to help teachers and students, with a priority placed on underserved schools; a Health Corps to improve public health outreach; a Clean Energy Corps to conduct weatherization and renewable energy projects; a Veterans Corps to assist veterans at hospitals, nursing homes and homeless shelters; and a Homeland Security Corps to help communities plan, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Engage Retiring Americans in Service on a Large Scale: Older Americans have a wide range of skills and knowledge to contribute. Obama will expand and improve programs that connect individuals over the age of 55 to quality volunteer opportunities. Expand the Peace Corps: Obama will double the Peace Corps to 16,000 by 2011. He will work with the leaders of other countries to build an international network of overseas volunteers so that Americans work side-by-side with volunteers from other countries. Show the World the Best Face of America: Obama will set up an America’s Voice Initiative to send Americans who are fluent speakers of local languages to expand our public diplomacy. He also will extend opportunities for older individuals such as teachers, engineers, and doctors to serve overseas. Integrate Service into Learning Expand Service-Learning in Our Nation’s Schools: Obama will set a goal that all middle and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year. He will develop national guidelines for service- learning and will give schools better tools both to develop programs and to document student experience. Green Job Corps: Obama will create an energy-focused youth jobs program to provide disadvantaged youth with service opportunities weatherizing buildings and getting practical experience in fast-growing career fields. Expand YouthBuild Program: Obama will expand the YouthBuild program, which gives disadvantaged young people the chance to complete their high school education, learn valuable skills and build affordable housing in their communities. He will grow the program so that 50,000 low-income young people a year a chance to learn construction job skills and complete high school. Require 100 Hours of Service in College: Obama will establish a new American Opportunity Tax Credit that worth $4,000 a year in exchange for 100 hours of public service a year. Promote College Serve-Study: Obama will ensure that at least 25 percent of College Work-Study funds are used to support public service opportunities instead of jobs in dining halls and libraries. Invest in the Nonprofit Sector Social Investment Fund Network: Obama will create a Social Investment Fund Network to use federal seed money to leverage private sector funding to improve local innovation, test the impact of new ideas and expand successful programs to scale. Social Entrepreneurship Agency for Nonprofits: Barack Obama will a create an agency within the Corporation for National and Community Service dedicated to building the capacity and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector.

Glenn is of course completly correct that the lapse of FISA created such a hole in our security profile that we have all been killed in our sleep by hordes of Islamofascists. However, the mainstream media refuses to report this fact, and thus we all still believe we are alive. THE Captain hates to bear bad news, but there it is.

In fact, the provisions of FISA and Protect America were so critically important that Our Leader, in an act of double jiu-jitsu brilliance, refused to accept an extension that would have allowed the provisions to continue. Say what you will about Our Leader, but he is Brave enough to accept the HORRIBLE DANGER created by letting FISA provisions lapse in order to ensure that our Noble Telecom companies are not attacked by hordes of trial lawyers.

As I said that day, no amount of Sorosis can reverse the public perception, planted by the GOP via TV ad buys and millions of mailers to constituents, that the House Democrats preferred to partay rather than to protect the People.

It seems that Charles is so full of flatulation his thought processes did not cross his synaptic gaps correctly. He blew that crap right out his ears! Secondly, Karl Rove is up to his usual tactics again. In this case, someone on the right is using the New York Tiems again, remember Pulitizer prize winning Judith Miller being used by Cheyney, to make the point the press is “liber” and can’t be trusted; “here, let us give you an example.” The New York Times knew this story did not have enough substance, even though John McCain had acknowledged the merits of the story by retaining Bob Bennet as counsel in December. John McCain denied the story to Matt Drudge last year and had a press conference stating the story had not validity relating to sexual misconduct. The question remains: did John McCain improperly give favors to the female lobbyist? We should not be tempted to take our focus off the fact the country is on the verge of a titanic financial implosion. We are spending $38 Million dollars each minute in Iraq, of which we have to borrow from China and other Asian countries; Dubya is still proposing tax cuts as a means to cure the economy; the past majority of the House and Senate - Repub controlled - spent money without any fiscal responsibility and is now trying to protray the Dems as wanting to raise taxes for political reasons. The next President is going to face enormous problems, but, the real work is going to be in the House and Senate. We must vote on those who will put our economic “house” in order. Without jobs with living wages, we all sink. Given the fact the Repubs are resigning and/or being indicted at a record pace, should not surprise anyone.

Wow. Late to the circle jerk today, seems like everyone is dried up already.

Jackie, Glenn is showing clear signs of Blog Derangement Syndrome. Prevelant symptoms: increasing incoherence; desperate attempts to conflate multiple posters into a single person (aka Dusty’s Dementia); and an inflated sense of personal merit, specifically as it relates to posts that begin with “I told you guys a long time ago that…”.

I especially like how he finds two posters who hate Bush and automatically assumes they must be the same guy. In Glenn’s overeducated but undernourished little brain, agreement on this widespread view indicates a single personage. Logic was not the boy’s strong suit, it seems.

I’d love to hang around, but there is a bottle of Patron Gran Platinum, a bag of fine Jamaican, and a bi-sexual couple from Tuscany that require my attentions. The man’s Johnson is bigger than Glenn’s ego, and his wife has more curves than J-Lo. Glad I did not spend my spooge here at the Wooten board today. Happy Friday.

Hillary has been totally unable to address anything during the debates except Hillary Care. Surely, Congressman Lewis remembers the debacle of 1994, and the resulting loss of the Congress to the Republicans! She sure didn’t learn anything!!

For all of the spin Hillary has given on ‘experience’, what are her specific policy plans for:

*Revamping public education to cause our kids to be competitive in a global environment in the future? We continue to fall behind competitive countries, especially in math and science. Our high school diploma graduate rates continue to fall, and many who do graduate have difficulty reading their diplomas!

*Specific plans to cause American enterprise to become more competitive in a global environment? What we seem to hear are threats against businesses, yet some claim they are going to bring back jobs — HOW??? (Her husband suggests that we should ‘slow down economic growth to protect the planet’!)

*Providing additional health care availability without throwing the baby out with the bath water… HOW? (really do not think that dictating from Washington is the answer or the right precedent to establish.) The following is not a solution! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4u5x9XAsAs&eurl=http://www.freemarketcure.com/brainsurgery.php

*Plans and policies to cause the US to become energy independent in 10 - 15 years (walking vice driving is not a solution!)?

*Revamping the US military to bring the strength of the forces back to the levels of 1990 — prior to the cuts of the mid 90’s — with heavier reliance on robotics and artificial intelligence?

  • What immediate steps will be taken to insure the sovereignty of the US and cease uncontrolled immigration of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS? A ‘non decision continues to cost the American taxpayer, while the politician only visualizes a future vote – BY DOING NOTHING!

*Cleaning up the obscene waste by the Federal government — especially earmarks by both parties?

*Fixing Social Security, MEDICARE and MEDICAID, including the hard decisions that future generations are either going to have to dig real deep, or some major modifications to the systems will have to be made?

Very hard to imagine that Saudi Arabia, China, Japan and other countries we borrow from today are going to continue to prop us up with loans if we do not subsequently clean up our own house; start managing at national level; and STOP making promises that we know cannot be kept much after being elected.

PS: Failed to ask one question for the Clintons: When will the issue of the intent of the XXII Amendment be surfaced in earnest, and what protections of the intent will be imposed if that candidate wins??
