DEL.ICIO.USA ‘hit job’ on McCain?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The story rumored to be in the works throughout the latter stages of the Republican presidential campaign — that John McCain had an improper relationship with a female lobbyist about the time he ran for President in 2000 — popped into the open Wednesday. It’s published today in The New York Times. McCain’s lawyer, Robert Bennett, insists it’s “shameless” and “entirely unsourced” and a “real hit job.” McCain at a press conference today said “it’s not true.”
Here are a few of the first paragraphs to give you the flavor of the story:
“A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
“When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s client, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
“Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship. But to his advisers, even the appearance of a close bond with a lobbyist whose clients often had business before the Senate committee Mr. McCain led threatened the story of redemption and rectitude that defined his political identity.”
The story then goes on to revive the Keating Five savings and loan scandal and suggests that McCain had not been true to the ethical standard he set for himself and the image he cultivated “as the scourge of special interests, a crusader for stricter ethics and campaign finance rules, a man of honor chastened by a brush with shame.”
It’s impossible, based on the Times account, to know whether there was anything improper in McCain’s relationship with the lobbyist.
The problem is that two men — a powerful public official and a lobbyist — can have an “intimate” converstion in a restaurant and the assumption is that it’s about legislation. It may be improper, but the immediate assumption is not that it’s romantic. If the lobbyist is female, and especially one who’s attractive, the first reaction is otherwise — that it’s personal.
Evangelist Billy Graham had a policy throughout his ministry that he would always have an aide or another person present when he was in a car or room with a woman other than his wife. That’s not a practical policy for a political figure, especially since it disadvantages the access of a female lobbyist to a male power figure or, in the case of a Nancy Pelosi, the male lobbyist.
But certainly a political figure who repeatedly engages in behavior that seems too familiar and that invites on-lookers to question its propriety, should heed the warnings — and return to the Billy Graham rule. Or, failing that, if his conduct begins to disminish respect for the public office he holds, he should step down.
A hit job? I’d not be particularly concerned about The Times story yet. It was bound to come out. Better now than later.

Well, I might of knowed. The librul Democrats have took out after McCain like my old coon dog tracks a scent after he picks one up. I ain’t seen such a news ruckus since the Rev. Jim Bob Buice got caught with that nekkid boy. Here’s a godly Republican, even if he is a little too librul, and he’s being accused of doing You Know What with this lobby woman. And if you look at a picture of the woman you almost feel sorry for him, not being able to do no better than that. But my buddy Jim Earl says even old and ugly women need some love, otherwise people like Sister Dusty would just feel spurned and lonely.
I reckon next they will put McCain in the Hall of Republican Hero Studs, along with the godly Sen. Vitter, the godly Wide Stance Craig, and the godly Rep. Foley. Its got to the point you can’t even take your zipper down without somebody making out like you are some kind of prevert. From now on, I won’t even unzip to go to the bathroom. My friend Joe Bill says leastwise this news takes peoples minds off of the Keating Five thing. Anyway, it sure is sorry news to greet the godly Rep. Ney when he gets out of prison today.
Anyhow, Clinton done it first so turnabout is fair play. Godly Republicans need You Know What too. I guess most of them are so excited when they read about what librul Democrats have did that they can’t help theirselfs. You spend most of your time reading reports about what goes on in librul Democrats bedrooms and trying to put a stop to it that it eats at you, and after a while you take out after some woman or man or boy. Anyway, I would vote for the Republican if I seen a picture of him in bed with a sheep before I would vote for a librul Democrat.
I can’t hardly even think of this old withered man in a motel room, fumbling and trying to do You Know What with this woman. But its hard for me not to think about it and it kind of ruins my day.

You have no standing whatever to adjudicate this topic under the masthead of the AJC, because you, your fellow editors, your ombudsman too stupid to call herself that, and the AJC’s legal staff did nothing about the AJC’s repeated publication of defamatory lies stating that Rudy Giuliani repeatedly and feloniously lobbied for interests inimical to the commonweal.
The AJC is missing the biggest story in a long time, which is Wal-Mart’s unveiling of in-house medical clinics—-a story that blows the whole premise of Sunday’s Op-Ed spread out of the water.

The NY Times has been investigating these allegations for years and has reportedly been holding back the report because of “lack of information” since December of 2007. Matt Drudge has reported this same story in the past and John McCain has said in press conference, he will address the issue at the appropriate time. It appears this is another cynical ploy by Karl Rove and his band of criminals to discredit someone they have not anointed. I do hope that this story is found to be without merit. I want the Repubs to be at “full strength” in November. When this hip-kicking is administered, there should be no excuses for the drubbing they will take. News report indicates that 15% of the Repubs will not stand for re-election, and counting. Those that will stand before the voters will have a difficult time having a electoral percentage equal to the public approval of Dubya. Is that number 19% and falling?

I am trying to confirm this, but apparently the Huck women were unavailable as they were advised by the elders to remain inside during last night’s eclipse, lest they become spontaneously pregnant.

Congressional approval ratings are low because of the Republicans.
Latest Gallup poll (Feb 18) says 55% of all Americans plan on voting for a Democrat vs 41% for Republicans in the fall election. These numbers are higher for the Dems than they were before the 2006 election.

Actually, the first thought in my mind was that the Republicans did indeed “make up sordid stories about their own candidate” — again.
Remember, it was the Republican Party that submarined Senator McCain’s 2000 campaign with a last minute fabricated smear about his alleged paternity of an illegitimate biracial child. It was done to clear the way for their preferred candidate, who was significantly dumber, less experienced, less well-known and therefore more dependent and easier to manipulatex by Party seniors.
It occurs to me that the Republican establishment is in an analogous situation today. With Mitt Romney formalizing his withdrawal, their choice is between a strong experienced Senator with a record of, and reason for, being difficult to control, and a Governor with no national experience who needs Party support and who appeals to the “base” currently inveighing against the presumptive nominee. With Senator Obama’s nomination looking more and more likely, the Republicans may well calculate that the experience and relative moderate positions emphasized in a McCain/Clinton race could be exchanged for an appeal to the farther fringes of the opposing bases that would characterize an Obama/Huckabee contest. Karl Rove’s effective cultivation of grassroots organization, so far superior to that of the Democrats, would allow the Party to distance itself from Senator McCain’s bipartisan positions that have so completely consumed the right wing ranters and potentially deliver another malleable and dependent President.
Remember, too, that the New York Times endorsed Senator McCain in the state primary, writing a very complimentary editorial on his strengths as a candidate and chief executive. And the article published today never accuses him of having an affair, but rather of imprudence in permitting the appearance of impropriety.

In 2000, for no apparent reason, he takes a younger version of Cindy McCain with him everywhere he goes while, yet again, sending letters to regulatory agencies seeking favoritism for this lobbyist’s client (Paxson).

John Sidney McCain III entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1954. Young McCain wanted to become an admiral. He planned to be the “first son and grandson of four star admirals” to achieve such a distinction. But that was not to be. McCain III possessed none of the innate character and discipline traits that helped mold his father and grandfather into great military leaders.
His father, John S. “Junior” McCain, and grandfather, John S. McCain, Sr., were famous four-star Admirals in the U.S. Navy. His father commanded U.S. forces in Europe before becoming commander of American forces fighting in Vietnam. His grandfather commanded naval aviation at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Both men became highly influential in U.S. Navy operations.
At the Academy, aside being known as a “rowdy, raunchy, underachiever” who resented authority, Cadet McCain became infamous as a leader among his fellow midshipmen for organizing “off-Yard activities” and hard drinking parties. Robert Timberg wrote in his book, The Nightingale’s Song, that “being on liberty with John McCain was like being in a train wreck.”
McCain’s grades were “marginal.” He drew so many demerits for breaking curfew and other discipline issues that he graduated fifth from the bottom of the class of 1958. Despite his low “class standing,” and no doubt because of the influence of his family of famous Admirals, McCain was leap-frogged ahead of more qualified applicants and granted a coveted slot to be trained as a navy pilot.
Good Party Animal - Bad Pilot:
He spent the next two and a half years as a “naval aviator in training” at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas, flying A-1 Skyraiders.
While a pilot trainee, McCain continued to party hard. He drove a Corvette and dated an exotic dancer named “Marie the Flame of Florida.” Timberg wrote that McCain “learned to fly at Pensacola, though his performance was below par, at best good enough to get by. He liked flying, but didn’t love it.”
McCain Lost Five Military Aircraft
McCain, the “below par” pilot, eventually lost 5 military aircraft, the first during a training flight in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while trying to land. The Navy ignored the crash and graduated McCain in 1960.
While deployed in the Mediterranean, the hard partying McCain lost a second aircraft. Timberg described the crash: “Flying too low over the Iberian Peninsula, he took out some power lines which led to a spate of newspaper stories in which he was predictably identified as the son of an admiral.”
Unscathed, McCain returned to Pensacola Station where he was promoted to flight instructor for Naval Air Station Meridian in Mississippi. The airfield at Meridian, McCain Field, was named in honor of McCain’s grandfather.
In 1964 McCain became involved with Carol Shepp, a model from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he had met at Annapolis. They were married in Philadelphia on July 3, 1965.
Flight instructor McCain lost a third aircraft while flying a Navy trainer solo to Philadelphia for an Army-Navy football game. Timberg wrote that McCain radioed, “I’ve got a flameout” before ejecting at one thousand feet. McCain parachuted onto a beach moments before his plane slammed into a clump of trees.
The Navy dismissed the crash as “unavoidable” and assigned McCain to the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in December 1966, which was patrolling the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. In Spring 1967, the Forrestal was assigned to join the Operation Rolling Thunder bombing campaign against North Vietnam.
McCain lost his fourth plane on board the Forrestal on July 29, 1967 when a rocket inadvertently slammed into his bomb laden jet. McCain escaped, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors. McCain was transferred from the badly damaged Forrestal to the USS Oriskany. Shortly afterwards, on Oct. 26, 1967, he was shot down and captured by the Vietnamese.
Post-POW Years: Political Ambition and a New, Young, Rich Wife
Upon his release from North Vietnam and return to the United States in 1973, McCain reunited with his wife, Carol, who had been permanently crippled in a car accident while he was a POW.
Still yearning to become an admiral, McCain enrolled in the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. and underwent physical therapy in order to fly again. The Navy excused his permanent disabilities and reinstated him to flight status, effectively positioning him for promotion.
Timberg described McCain’s advancement: “in the fall of 1974, McCain was transferred to Jacksonville as the executive officer of Replacement Air Group 174, the long-sought flying billet at last a reality. A few months later, he assumed command of the RAG, which trained pilots and crews for carrier deployments. The assignment was controversial, some calling it favoritism, a sop to the famous son of a famous father and grandfather, since he had not first commanded a squadron, the usual career path.”
While Executive Officer and later as Squadron Commander McCain used his authority to arrange frequent flights that allowed him to carouse with subordinates and “engage in extra-marital affairs.”
This was a clear violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice rules against adultery and fraternization with subordinates. But, as with all his other past behaviors, McCain was never penalized; instead he always got away with his transgressions.
Timberg wrote, “Off duty, usually on routine cross-country flights to Yuma and El Centro, John started carousing and running around with women. To make matters worse, some of the women with whom he was linked by rumor were subordinates … At the time the rumors were so widespread that, true or not, they became part of McCain’s persona, impossible not to take note of.”
In early 1977, Admiral Jim Holloway, Chief of Naval Operations promoted McCain to captain and transferred him from his command position “to Washington as the number-two man in the Navy’s Senate liaison office. McCain was promptly given total control of the office. It wasn’t long before the “fun loving and irreverent” McCain had turned the liaison office into a “late-afternoon gathering spot where senators and staffers, usually from the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, would drop in for a drink and the chance to unwind.”
In 1979, while attending a military reception in Hawaii, McCain met and fell in love with Cindy Lou Hensley, 17 years his junior, who was the daughter of James W. Hensley, a wealthy Anheuser-Busch distributor from Phoenix, Arizona. McCain filed for and obtained an uncontested divorce from his wife in Florida on April 2, 1980 and promptly married Cindy on May 17, 1980.
He resigned from the Navy in 1981 and went to work for his father-in-law in Phoenix; where he used the opportunity to make powerful and wealthy friends in Arizona including banker Charles Keating and Duke Tully, the editor-in-chief of the Arizona Republic. Keating was later convicted of fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy and Tully was disgraced for concocting a phony military record of combat in Korea and Vietnam including medals for heroism.
McCain ran for Arizona’s First Congressional District in 1982. McCain won the congressional seat. In 1987 McCain was elected to the Senate.

We are spending more than $38 Million dollars PER MINUTE in Iraq. What are we getting for our money? Once again the New York Slimes shows why it has reduced itself from a credible and objective journalistic outlet during the past 25 years to nothing more than a grocery store isle can of expired SPAM worthy of no more space than the back alley dumpster. (It really started going down during Reagan’s tenure – Joe Klein & Time DNC Co. apparently never got over the nationwide Carter beat down).

Regarding “McCain’s refusal to take a confrontational stance versus Vietnam” on the issue of POWs and MIAs, Mr. Sampley must’ve been disappointed by the part of McCain’s and Kerry’s joint fact-finding visit to that country.
But then Sampley would be upset about the wrong part of that visit, the part in which McCain joined Kerry in saying that the the dispute over captured U.S. personnel had been settled to his satisfaction. The part in which McCain buried the hatchet with the Vietnamese, and honored their patriotism and valor during the war.
It must’ve been that part of the trip that upset Sampley, because presumably he was not upset by the part in which McCain, having said all that, acknowledged that he’d “always hate the Gooks”.
Whether McCain simply had lost his ball bearings on that occasion, was not reported.

The problem is that two men — a powerful public official and a lobbyist — can have an “intimate” converstion in a restaurant and the assumption is that it’s about legislation. Secret Service Details
YOU WILL FIND THE SECRET SERVICE VIEWS ON THE PERSONALITIES OF PAST PRESIDENTS TO BE QUITE INTERESTING.
For those who don’t know … Capt. Denny Keast flies for UAL and flew many SAM’s (Special Air Mission’s) for the White House.
I flew 4 Presidential support missions in the C-141 out of Dover AFB, DE.. Two for President Johnson and two for President Nixon.
Johnson was a first class jerk and on the two occasions I flew for him, if the Secret Service and their Liaison in the Pentagon hadn’t intervened, we would have had to stay on the airplane for hours while Johnson was off somewhere. Nixon never required that and the four (4) stops we made with him he was cordial to the Secret Service and to me and my crew.
When I lived in DC, we had a neighbor who was part of the secret service presidential detail for many years. His stories of Kennedy and Johnson were the same as those I heard from the guys who flew the presidents’ plane.
Yes, Kennedy did have Marilyn Monroe flown in for secret “dates,” and LBJ was a typical Texas “good ole boy” womanizer. Nixon, Bush 41, and Carter never cheated on their wives. Clinton cheated, but couldn’t match Kennedy or LBJ in style or variety.
The information below is accurate: The elder Bush and current president Bush make it a point to thank and take care of the air crews who fly them around. When the president flies, there are several planes that also go, one carries the armored limo, another the security detail, plus usually a press aircraft.
Both Bushes made it a point to stay home on holidays, so the Air Force and security people could have a day with their families.
Hillary Clinton was arrogant and orally abusive to her security detail. She forbade her daughter, Chelsea, from exchanging pleasantries with them. Sometimes Chelsea , miffed at her mother’s obvious conceit and mean spiritedness, ignored her demands and exchanged pleasantries regardless, but never in her mother’s presence. Chelsea really was a nice, kindhearted, and lovely young lady. The consensus opinion was that Chelsea loved her Mom but did not like her. Hillary Clinton was continuously rude and abrasive to those who were charged to protect her life. Her security detail dutifully did their job, as professionals should, but they all loathed her and wanted to be on a different detail.
Hillary Clinton was despised by the Secret Service as a whole. Former President Bill Clinton was much more amiable than his wife. Often the Secret Service would cringe at the verbal attacks Hillary would use against her husband. They were embarrassed for his sake by the manner and frequency in which she verbally insulted him, sometimes in the presence of the Secret Service, and sometimes behind closed doors. Even behind closed doors Hillary Clinton would scream and holler so loudly that everyone could hear what she was saying. Many felt sorry for President Clinton and most wondered why he tolerated it instead of just divorcing his “attack dog” wife. It was crystal clear that the Clintons neither liked nor respected each other and this was true long before the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Theirs was genuinely a “marriage of convenience. “
Chelsea was much closer to her father than her mother, even after the Lewinsky scandal, which hurt her gravely. Bill Clinton did in fact have charisma and occasionally would smile at or shake hands with his security detail. Still, he always displayed an obvious air of superiority towards them.
His security detail uniformly believed him to be disingenuous and false and that he did nothing without a motive that in some way would enhance his image and political career. He was polite, but not kind. They did not particularly like him and nobody trusted him.
Al Gore was the male version of Hillary Clinton. They were friendlier toward each other than either of them were towards former President Clinton. They were not intimate, so please don’t read that in. They were very close in a political way. Tipper Gore was generally nice and pleasant. She initially liked Hillary but soon after the election she had her “pegged” and no longer liked her or associated with her except for events that were politically obligatory.
Al Gore was far more left wing than Bill Clinton . Al Gore resented Bill Clinton and thought he was too “centrist.” He despised all Republicans. His hatred was bitter and this was long before he announced for the Presidency. This hatred was something that he and Hillary had in common. They often said as much, even in the presence of their security detail. Neither of them trusted Bill Clinton and, the Secret Service opined, neither of them even liked him. Bill Clinton did have some good qualities, whereas Al Gore and Hillary had none, in the view of their security details.
Gore, like Hillary, was very rude and arrogant toward his security detail. He was extremely unappreciative and would not hesitate to scold them in the presence of their peers for minor details over which they had no control. Gore also looked down on them, as they finally observed and learned with certainty on one occasion. He got angry at his offspring and pointed at his security detail and said, “Do you want to grow up and be like them?” Word of this insult by the former Vice-President quickly spread and he became as disliked by the Secret Service as Hillary. Most of them prayed Al Gore would not be elected President, and they really did have private celebrations in a few of their homes after President Bush won. This was not necessarily to celebrate President Bush’s election, but to celebrate Al Gore’s defeat. Everyone in the Secret Service wants to be on First Lady Laura Bush’s detail. Without exception, they concede that she is perhaps the nicest and most kind person they have ever had the privilege of serving. Where Hillary patently refused to allow her picture to be taken with her security detail, Laura Bush doesn’t even have to be asked, she offers. She doesn’t just shake their hand and say, “Thank you.” Very often, she will give members of her detail a kindhearted hug to express her appreciation. There is nothing false about her. This is her genuine nature. Her security detail considers her to be a “breath of fresh air.” They joke that comparing Laura Bush with Hillary Clinton is like comparing “Mother Teresa” with the “Wicked Witch of the North.”
Likewise, the Secret Service considers President Bush to be a gem of a man to work for. He always treats them with genuine respect and he always trusts and listens to their expert advice. They really like the Crawford, Texas detail. Every time the president goes to Crawford, he has a Bar-B-Q for his security detail and he helps serve their meals. He sits with them, eats with them, and talks with them.. He knows each of them by their first name and calls them by their first name as a show of affection. He always asks about their family, the names of which he always remembers. They believe that he is deeply and genuinely appreciative of their service. They could not like, love, or respect anyone more than President Bush. Most of them did not know they would feel this way, until they had an opportunity to work for him and learn that his manner was genuine and consistent. It has never changed since he began his Presidency. He always treats them with the utmost respect, kindness and compassion.
Please pass this on. It is important for Americans to have a true inside understanding of their President. And also the woman who is currently a candidate for president.

(CNN) — Barack Obama has won the Democrats Abroad Global Primary, according to the International Chair for the Democrats Abroad, Christine Marques.
Marques tells CNN the results of the week-long vote were:
Barack Obama – 65 percent, Hillary Clinton – 32 percent, with the rest of the candidates pulling in less than 1 percent of the vote each.
Democrats Abroad will send 22 delegates to the Democratic Convention, with half a vote each, carrying a total of 11 votes.
According to Democrats Abroad UK Chairman Bill Barnard, eight of the 22 will be superdelegates: two of those have said they will support Clinton, two have said they will support Obama, and four are undecided. Fourteen of the 22 will be pledged delegates.
Voting in the Democrats Abroad Global Primary began on Super Tuesday, February 5 and continued through February 12. Voting centers were set up in 33 countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong and new chapters in Istanbul, Ukraine, Russia and Indonesia — the highest number of voting centers in the primary’s history.
This was the first cycle that Democrats Abroad enabled those who live in countries without voting centers to vote by mail, fax or Internet.
Democrats Abroad will not release its membership numbers, but the largest communities of U.S. expatriates live in Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Sen. Barack Obama received the endorsement of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson on Thursday, at an event with Obama’s wife Michelle at Cleveland State.

So, Michelle Obama. What’s wrong with her?
Did Princeton mess her up? Did Harvard Law do? She comes out and makes a prepared statement, twice, establishing that she’s never been proud of her country as an adult. Until people embraced her husband’s candidacy. NOW, she says, she’s proud of her country for the first time.
Decent people across the country, people of various political views, were offended by the comments, and offended that the spouse of a leading candidate for the Presidency could spend her adult life ashamed of this country or at least in no way proud of it. The story set its own news cycle. People wanted her to explain what in hell she was thinking.
Finally she came out yesterday afternoon and clarified her statement by saying…what? That she is indeed proud of her country NOW. NOW she is proud of her country. She actually reaffirmed that she never has been proud of this country before NOW. And that the reason she is proud of this country just now is that the country has given her reason just now to be proud of her husband.
Again, what is wrong with this woman? Did she go into college with cognitive impairment and chips on both shoulders, or only come out that way? Did Princeton teach her anything? Did Harvard do so? Because if so, IT VERY CONSPICUOUSLY DOES NOT SHOW!
Princeton aside, this is another blow for Harvard, in what has been a rather bad slump under the leadership of an embarassingly weak and silly President. Message for Harvard: Clear your head of your silly postmod fog and SEND FOR CONDI!

Though even the Godly Rush is probably envious of her commanding a medical charity from which she could embezzle a steady supply of her drugs, and then get off scot free through the influence of her snator husband whose success she bankrolled in the first place. THE Captain stands with His heart over His hand and sings a Lee Greewood tune just thinking of such a stirring success story.
Well, that is enough for today. Sure, McCain is a make-beleive conservative, but if the GOP picks him, True Believers will line up in obedience to prevent the White House from falling into Democrat hands. One shudders to envision all that fine furniture wrapped in thick plastic slipcovers, portraits of Washington and Jefferson replaced with velvet renditions of Black Jesus and James Brown, and all that fatback and chitterling served on Nancy Reagan’s White House China. It is to shudder. And to think, it will all be prepared and served by bowing and scraping White Women who will be taken out back and given nightly thrashings before being forced to submit to the superhuman lust machine of Obamandingo.

THERE’S A STAIN ON McCAIN” How can McCain trot around as the champion of ethics and campaign finance visa vi the bill with his name on it, The McCain Feingold Act and then get caught trading his influence by writing letters to the FCC for Paxton Communications, to speed along there deliberations over his interests and at the same time accept free rides in the Paxton’s jet, $20,000 in campaign donations and the use of their lobbiest for whatever purposes he deemed interesting. With his track record for phillandering, cheating on his wife and w******* mongering while in the service, how can we ignore the lack of integrity he has displayed, at least. But for a second, let’s put asside what could easily be percieved as inappropriate behavior with a woman, 31 years his junior, including long flights alone on the Paxton jet, that might have included a senior membership in the mile high club and focus on the real issue.
As a Senator, Presidential candidate and author of the McCain/Feingold Act, which set the standard for Ethics and Campaign Finance, McCain should be held to at least the standard he passed into law!
By consorting with Paxton and their lobbiest to trade influence favors for cash, free air service and possibly personal service, McCain has caused a perception of being disigenuous, hypocritical and beyond inappropriate in his actions. For me, perceptions form attitudes and I come away thinking McCain is an * ARROGANT HYPOCRIT* who thinks he is above the law and can somehow escape his history of philandering, indiscretion and inappropriate conduct going all the way back to his days in the Navy, where he crashed at least four aircraft resulting in the deaths of over 100 US military.
His attorney Robert Bennett, the same guy to defend Clinton regarding the Monica incident says the NY Times is a liberal rag that is out to get McCain….but wait, the NY Times endorsed McCain?? Bennett and the McCain campaign said that McCain never met with Paxton, which was contradicted by Paxton in a later Washington Post article, when he said that he and his lobbiest met several times with McCain, leading up to his writing of two letters to the FCC, which were characterized as an “inappropriate interferrence” by the Director of the FCC.
And Bennett says after learing of Paston’s contradicting statement, ” so what’s the difference whether they met or they didn’t meet?” Well. there is a large difference Mr Bennett. Your client campaign and you have already said he didn’t meet, so this sounds like an attempt to explain away the truth about the closeness of the relationship, the timing of the letters, subsequent free jet rides with the lady lobbiest and the $20,000 campaign contributions…..was this an attempt to cover this up?
Another requirement of the Mc-Fien Act is to report potential conflicts and free gifts and services offered or accepted, say like the plane rides?? McCain somehow, mysteriously, forgot to report those jet rides with the lady lobbiest….is this another attempt at cover-up.
IMHO- John McCain thinks he is above the very standards he championed and installed as a broad plank in his campaign and is therefore subject to detailed scutiny and a squeaky clean record……but, we all now know that he has tried to lie, distort and obstruct the truth and the truth is he is an ARROGANT HIPOCRIT
