The picture is still clear, simple: Voters need IDs

Georgians possessed of common sense are scratching their heads today in utter amazement that it took so long for sanity to prevail on the requirement that potential voters establish their identities at the polls.

The decision Thursday by U.S. District Court Judge Harold Murphy of Rome brings “closure” to one of the goofiest legal tantrums witnessed since the no-underlying-crime Scooter Libby case. In the voter ID case, complaining organizations scoured the state, searching high and low from the tidewaters of Glenn to the outskirts of Chattanooga, for a single victim aggrieved by the requirement to produce valid photo identification. A single victim. One. One from among 5,079,588 registered voters in Georgia. They could not.

“Although plaintiffs claim to know of people who claim that they lack photo ID, plaintiffs have failed to identify those individuals,” wrote Murphy in his order upholding the law. “The failure to identify those individuals ‘is particularly acute’ in light of plaintiffs’ contention that a large number of Georgia voters lack acceptable photo ID.”

Had they existed, surely the League of Women Voters of Georgia, Common Cause, the NAACP and the organizations of black elected officials and clergy could have produced one in two years of searching. And they didn’t. Oh, they’ll continue to try and will eventually produce a “victim,” but search as they did, it’s telling that despite the hype and rhetoric and the predictions of doom, the facts in evidence amounted to nothing. No harm. No foul.

There are two lessons here. One is that voter ID was never so much about establishing identification at the polls as it was about the shift in power under the Gold Dome. Democratic activists and their media allies kept insisting that Republicans had some sinister motive and that the real problem the Legislature should be addressing was absentee ballot fraud.

Quoting from an Indiana case where the League of Women Voters had also challenged voter identification law, unsuccessfully, Murphy noted that “the legislature has wide latitude in determining the problems it wishes to address and the manner in which it desires to address them.”

The Legislature is free — hallelujah the acknowledgment — to assess voter fraud and attack it in whatever order it sees fit, “addressing itself to the phase of the problem which seems most acute to the legislative mind,” a quote from an 8-0 decision by the Earl Warren court in 1955. “The legislature may select one phase of one field and apply a remedy there, neglecting others.”

That’s the heart of the matter and the key to understanding the bloviated complaints that have been bandied about for the past two years.

The plain fact is that power shifted, and the heel-diggers refused to acknowledge that the likes of state Sen. Cecil Staton (R-Macon) and state Rep. Barry Fleming (R-Harlem) were driving the train on voter fraud, not the old crew. That’s painful for some partisan interest groups to acknowledge and they sought, unsuccessfully, to use state and federal courts to roll back the clock.

Murphy wisely deferred, finding as well that “the photo ID requirement is rationally related” to the state’s interest in further preventing fraudulent voting.

For the state, it was a blow-out. Secretary of State Karen Handel has gone to great lengths to inform potential voters of the photo ID requirement, sending out 250,000 letters, buying hundreds of radio spots, setting up a hotline and Web site, and training election officials and poll workers in the 23 counties with elections on Sept. 18. “We don’t ever want to be in a place where a citizen who is legitimately eligible to cast a vote is not able to do it,” she said. Photo IDs are free and readily available in every county.

Comes now the second lesson of this protracted and overblown political snit. The lesson is that any change conservatives or Republicans might bring requires a legislative strategy, a public relations strategy, and a team of skilled and dedicated lawyers determined to fight in the Legislature, in the media and in the courts.

Accused of using photo ID as a subterfuge to keep blacks from voting, a baseless and absurd allegation — it would have been easy to back down and to abandon efforts to write a voter ID law — state leaders stuck by their beliefs.

And now they have won on all counts.

Illegal Mexicans should have to show a Frito ID in order to vote. Then everything will be perfect.

I just realized, that most photographers are incompetent, and with photo ID’s, Georgia will be a red-eye state forever.

I charge Wooten with blogger fraud. I had to look up bloviated and couldn’t find it in my Oxford Pocket Dictionary, (nor in my Oxbow Incident Pocket Fisherman Dictionary). I think we need phoney ID’s to prevent further blogger fraud and keep people from using words that aint even in the Oxford Pocket Dictionary and Thesaurus, (nor in the Oxbow Incid……I know, you get the bit.)

Well, when I finished my beer run yesterday I got home and saw a picture of that Osama terrist on TV. I done what any good Republican would do. Kind of shivered and looked around to see if he was nearby and said I was ready to give up every freedom I have to be safe and made out a nice check to the Republican Party. You never know when the guy will leave his cave and come right here to the USA to attack us. That’s what Sister Dusty says and I beleive her. He probly wants my 42 inch HDTV for his cave.

Anyway, glad to see Those People won’t be able to use power bills and such to prove they are who they say they are at the polls. Little by little we are getting back to the way things was in the 1940s. As they should be. It won’t make no diffrence to me. I’ll just switch to absentee voting in order to vote twicet, oncet up in Rome where I use to live and once down here. They don’t check ID for absentee voting because mostly us good white Christian conservatives vote absentee and Those People don’t because they don’t go nowhere.

Anyway, I outsmarted this Handel woman. Trying to trick us to send out letters and then waiting for some to come back undelivered and try to strike people from the voting rolls. I get my cousin to pick up any mail for me in Rome where I use to live. So this Handel woman won’t be cutting my name from the Rome voting list. I figure my vote is worth twicet any vote from one of Those People anyway.

Course, the missus always uses absentee voting. That way I can be sure she votes the Right way. I fill out her ballot myself.

Well, I’m all nervous about my Dawgs. That Spurrier guy is awful sneaky and I would hate to see South Carolina win. It would bind me up for days. Us Dawg fans is all over the state. If you look at the picture of the stands on TV you will see about 89,000 rednecks and maybe a 1,000 students. And missing teeth all over the place, just like a NASCAR crowd. It’s for sure schooling don’t have a lot to do with being a Dawg fan or going there neither.

Anyway, the 42 inch TV is all warmed up and I have my pork rinds and plenty of PBR for the day. Joe Bill and Jim Earl will be coming over shortly. The games start at 11 and don’t end till midnight or so. Tell Sister Dusty to go easy on the sauce and maybe she can stay awake long enough to watch them all.

And another thing….if one political party can stay in power by voter fraud and not get caught, then they DESERVE to be in power.

Voter fraud is one of those things you hope is not true, because if it is, then you have to challenge every single one of your tenets of faith.

It’s why social revolution will never get off the ground in the USA. WE just want a tall cold one at 6pm and watch Katie Courek try to hide all that facial hair from 1080p.

I am curious why the state spent so much of my taxpayer money on this case when no one has been able to prove any voter fraud under the old 17 forms of ID law? I fail to see why the state has not improved the security of the absentee process when that issue was brought up. I can fax my county voters office request the ballot and never have to show as much as a utility bill (old system) to prove who I am. I am not saying it’s that big of a deal to have to show the photo ID, but what does upset me is how much the state spent on this issue when the fraud that they were trying to prevent hasn’t been shown to occur.

Any measure taken by all the states in the Union to prevent voter fraud should be encouraged. We have one of the most important elections in the past 100 years coming up and we need to make sure the Clintons are kept in check.

I’ve been so amused by the postings by DebbieDoClinton and GoldieBrick yesterday about ‘the stolen election’ in Florida. The only wrong doings there was by AlGore to steal the election by disqualifying the most important voters in that election - our military who protect our freedoms. The hatred of our military by the Left is disgusting and borders on treason at times.

The entire photo ID issue is yet another demagogic ploy to stir up the rednecks in this state by allowing them to believe there is massive voting fraud. Wooten knows that, and yet he shamelessly exploits the issue.

Wooten likes to boast about the lack of a verifiable instance in which photo ID would disenfranchise anybody. Well, can anyone mention one instance of improper voting in this state in recent years? Nationally—except, of course, for the sainted Ann Coulter, who demonstrably voted in the wrong district in 2006 in Florida? I thought not.

In all my life, I can’t recall one time during which I wasn’t required to show ID at the polls—and in Roswell, it was always photo ID. Has anyone else gone to the polls and voted without showing ID? I seriously doubt it.

The entire photo ID nonsense is a non-issue, designed to stir up the ignorant rednecks who populate this state. It is being promoted by those whose hold on power is becoming tenuous, as we see foreign policy disaster upon disaster and as the house of cards that constitutes the national economy begins to implode. In such times, it is necessary to stir up the Republican base.

My concern is absentee voting, where there is no ID requirement, either before or after the vote is mailed—not even an assurance that the voter is allowed to complete a ballot without the oversight of an abusive spouse. There isn’t even a requirement that the applicant for an absentee ballot be required to demonstrate a need to vote absentee. But, of course, since most absentee voters are white Republicans, you won’t be hearing a peep from the state legislature about that issue.

Move on. The photo ID law won’t make one bit of difference in the voting in this state. It exists purely as an effort by the power-hungry to prey upon the ignorance and bigotry in this state. We will hear the usual bleating from jbmlaw, Van, TFTT, Dusty, @@, RCH, and other special pleaders about how necessary the law is, but even they know it won’t make any difference. The truth is that they lack the integrity to acknowledge the nature of this law and its raison d’etre. Such is the nature of modern Republicanism.

This wonderful, long overdue law has exposed for all the world to see just what vile LIARS and RACEBAITERS blacks and their pandering liberal vote buying pimps are!!

Wooten is far too polite and reasonable in his factual unassailable criticism, but obviously he cannot be as blunt as needs be. After all this is the despicably multi-culti Urinal which rarely if ever criticises blacks - despite the huge unremitting levels of black murders/rapes/robberies/drug crime/shootings etc featured daily in the Urinal.

Blacks are the true racebaiters and racists of the 21st century. Just look at the shameless lies and racist filth emanating from the sullen, smug racial spoils crowd. Whites have long since moved on from the days of segregation and oppression, blacks still use that long ago - two generations and counting - ever more distant history for shrill selfish gimme gimme racist quotas and vile racial advantage. Even worse blacks despicably still use it to sullenly justify their own (collective) massive social, economic and staggering educational failings!!!

Now we have ubiquitous hippety hop thuggery, drive by shootings, vicious black gangbanging criminality - who ‘invented’ urban gangbanging? why the murderous black thugs who gave us the bloods and crips. We also have embittered racist lunacy puked up as “acting white” to justify worse than utterly abysmal black educational performance, shrill professional racebaiters who use race to shakedown companies, colleges, and orgs with money aided and abetted by guilt ridden pandering liberal scum - and worst of all for all of us - a 70% black b astard rate which is perpetuated by the sluttish behaviour of countless ignorant lascivious young black women gleefully having sex with countless equally ignorant black men whose notion of fatherhood is literally limited to “I aint wearin’ no rubber girl”!!!

Blacks have (nationally) frequently commited electoral fraud and blatantly lied about non-existent voter harassment. The worst single example recently being in FL 2000.

This is a fabulous law which protects all of us and ensures that some solid id is needed to exercise that most precious of citizens right - the right to vote.

WE ARE ALL DEEPLY INDEBTED TO THE GEORGIA GOP FOR DOGGEDLY SEEING THIS THROUGH TO THE BITTER RACEBAITING END!!!

WELL DONE CHAPS!!

Hooray! The brave and newly empowered “leaders” of Georgia have passed one of the single most important pieces of legislation since the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution. And I’m not sure if the courage to address the issue of abolishing slavery was even on par with this!

As his first act, our once corpulent governor used his political flab-muscle to address that enormous problem regarding the flag and helped get it changed back to reflect the real “tolerance” that will always exist here. (I liked the previous place mat version personally). And now his boys solve this voting problem that never existed!

That’s what I call Georgia wisdom and statesmanship at its finest!

No wonder Mr. Wooten’s chest is so puffed up and he is so elated. It’s the honor and the principle which comes first, you see.

And it is very encouraging to note that the Peach State Republicans are making such effective use of the limited time and resources available to them.

Why waste it on meaningful governance based on REAL priorities? But when we have virtually NO problems like this state does though, I can understand why that comes second, especially when they’ve not be able to run the show for over a century.

No wonder. Keep up this “leadership” and it may be another century too.

New definition of Democrat talking points: Osama’s latest rant.

“People of America: the world is following your news in regards to your invasion of Iraq, for people have recently come to know that, after several years of tragedies of this war, the vast majority of you want it stopped. Thus, you elected the Democratic Party for this purpose, but the Democrats haven’t made a move worth mentioning. On the contrary, they continue to agree to the spending of tens of billions to continue the killing and war there.”

It’s all just a bumper sticker. Or as The Shrill says, “if we have another terrorist attack, it will be a boost for Republicans.” It can NOT get any more pathetic for a political party to win than THAT.

There is no liberal media bias. If anything, it’s all CONSERVATIVE leaning. After all, it’s owned by the Jews! Among major findings:

  • The networks offered nearly twice as much coverage of the Democrats. More than half of all campaign segments (284, or 55%) focused on the Democratic contest, compared with just 152 (29%) devoted to the Republicans. The remaining stories either offered roughly equal discussion of both parties or did not focus on the major parties.

  • All three Democratic frontrunners received more attention than any of the top Republican candidates, with New York Senator Hillary Clinton receiving the most coverage of all.

  • Undeclared liberal candidates such as former Vice President Al Gore and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg received more network TV attention than many of the declared Republican candidates.

  • The network morning shows doled out nearly three times as much airtime (4 hours, 35 minutes) to interviews with the various Democratic campaigns. In contrast, the Republicans received just 1 hour and 44 minutes of interview airtime.

  • In their interviews with the candidates, the network hosts emphasized a liberal agenda. Of the substantive questions that could be categorized as reflecting a political agenda, more than two-thirds (69%) of the questions to Democrats reflected a liberal premise, and more than four-fifths (82%) of the questions to Republicans came from the same perspective.

  • The top Democratic candidates received much more favorable coverage than their GOP counterparts, with Senator Clinton cast as “unbeatable” and Illinois Senator Barack Obama tagged as a “rock star.” The most prominent Republican, Arizona Senator John McCain, was portrayed as a loser because of his support for staying the course in Iraq.

  • Not once did network reporters describe Senator Clinton and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards as “liberal,” while ABC only once labeled Obama as “liberal.” Yet the networks showed no hesitation in attaching the “liberal” label to Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani, who was so branded 12 times.

Paul is an isolationist. His philosophy will never fly in a global world. Too many strategic interests and power hungry leaders. We’ve gotta watch our backs while putting up a good front.

Once Iraq is turned over to the Iraqis, I think countries all over the world are gonna take a breather to cuddle up at home. Every country will reevaluate. We’ll be taking that time to beef up our military. If the Democrats win, we’ll be sitting ducks cause they’ll be looking to cut military spending like they’ve always done in the past.

Andy of man names, no matter how much you cuss and bang your head against the wall like a spoiled child, the sky is blue, not red.

And WOW! That op-ed piece was certainly more compelling that the information I provided like this.

Hagel strongly opposes:

  • abortion

  • hiring more women and minorities

  • same sex domestic partner benefits

  • more federal funding for health coverage

  • repealing tax cuts on the wealthy

  • Patriot Act harms civil liberties

  • stricter limits on political campaign funds

  • replacing coal and oil with alternatives

He strongly favors:

  • Teacher led prayer in schools

  • Privatizing Social Security

  • Parents choosing school vouchers

  • The death penalty

  • mandatory three strikes sentencing laws

  • Absolute right to gun ownership

  • Expanding the armed forces

  • Allowing churches to provide welfare services

Sure looks like a closet liberal to me!

So even a blind uber-extremist like yourself, when, and only when it is shoved in your face, can see that Hagel voted with his party on practically every major issue save one - the occupation of Iraq.

“I’ve chosen this path because conservative Nebraskans deserve a leader who will support and defend the principles and values of the Republican Party,” Bruning said in a statement. “I am disappointed we have not received that leadership from Chuck Hagel.” - Jon Bruning, Nebraska senate candidate for Hagel’s place.

Bite me, AmVet, AGAIN:

Hagel is Democrat Choice for VP

John Edwards calls Hagel “a good choice.” Joe Biden says “I would pick Chuck Hagel.”

LINCOLN—-Last night’s Democratic presidential debate - the first debate officially sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee - saw Chuck Hagel emerge as the top Vice Presidential pick of two of the party’s most liberal candidates, John Edwards and Joe Biden.

“Chuck Hagel’s strident attacks on President Bush, his vote in favor of a strict deadline for withdrawing troops from Iraq, and his support for giving amnesty to 12 million or more illegal immigrants has made the senator well-qualified to become a Vice Presidential pick of two of the Democrats most liberal presidential candidates,” said Jordan McGrain, campaign manager for the Jon Bruning campaign. “Obviously Hagel is no longer a standard-bearer for conservative Republicans.”

When asked by a questioner “If you had to pick any Republican member of Congress or Republican governor to be your running mate, who would it be?” Senator Joe Biden responded by saying “I would pick Chuck Hagel.” John Edwards concurred, saying “I think Chuck Hagel is a good choice.”

The Democratic presidential debate was hosted by YouTube.com and CNN, and was held in Charleston, South Carolina on the campus of The Citadel.

Wooten’s “bloggership” must be waning; he’s back to race baiting. The repuglicans do that so well.

Oh well, wanted to see if Jeff was on because I had that info for him; but he’s not and the subject has changed. So you really wanna know the “truth” about this so-called “Illegal Voting” that’s going on in America, please read below. It’s very enlightening:

The Fraudulent Fraud Squad The incredible, disappearing American Center for Voting Rights.

The American Center for Voting Rights, a group that has literally just disappeared as an organization, and for which it seems no replacement group will rise up. With no notice and little comment, ACVR—the only prominent nongovernmental organization claiming that voter fraud is a major problem, a problem warranting strict rules such as voter-ID laws—simply stopped appearing at government panels and conferences. Its Web domain name has suddenly expired, its reports are all gone (except where they have been preserved by its opponents), and its general counsel, Mark “Thor” Hearne, has cleansed his résumé of affiliation with the group. Hearne won’t speak to the press about ACVR’s demise. No other group has taken up the “voter fraud” mantra.

The death of ACVR says a lot about the Republican strategy of raising voter fraud as a crisis in American elections. Presidential adviser Karl Rove and his allies, who have been ghostbusting illusory dead and fictional voters since the contested 2000 election, apparently mounted a two-pronged attack. One part of that attack, at the heart of the current Justice Department scandals, involved getting the DoJ and various U.S. attorneys in battleground states to vigorously prosecute cases of voter fraud. That prong has failed. After exhaustive effort, the Department of Justice discovered virtually no polling-place voter fraud, and its efforts to fire the U.S. attorneys in battleground states who did not push the voter-fraud line enough has backfired. Even if Attorney General Gonzales declines to resign his position, his reputation has been irreparably damaged.

And typically you are so dumb that you bring up one of the other huge issues of our time - illegal immigration. And yet again, Hagel sided with the President on illegals earning citizenship.

Mhy point EXACTLY. How many Conservatives have you heard about that have been PLEASED with Bush’s immigration policy? ‘Nuff said.

Nice spin on the topic about Hagel being a RINO, however. No comment on Democrats liking him, eh? Didn’t think so.

No comment about my correlation with Lieberman and you liberals either? Didn’t think so. I’ll match wits with you all day, sport.

Nope, no Dem voter fraud. Reverse logic, this was actually Republicans trying to make Dems look bad:

[A] careful review of the facts shows that in 2004, paid Democrat operatives were far more involved in voter intimidation and suppression efforts than their Republican counterparts. Examples include:

  • Paid Democrat operatives charged with slashing tires of 25 Republican get-out-the-vote vans in Milwaukee on the morning of Election Day.

  • Misleading telephone calls made by Democrat operatives targeting Republican voters in Ohio with the wrong date for the election and faulty polling place information.

  • Intimidating and deceiving mailings and telephone calls paid for by the DNC threatening Republican volunteers in Florida with legal action.

  • Union-coordinated intimidation and violence campaign targeting Republican campaign offices and volunteers resulting in a broken arm for a GOP volunteer in Florida.

  • Vote fraud and voter registration fraud were significant problems in at least a dozen states around the county. Vote fraud is a reality in America that occurred not only in large battleground states like Wisconsin but in places like Alabama and Kentucky. The record indicates that in 2004, voter registration fraud was mainly the work of so-called “nonpartisan” groups such as Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and NAACP National Voter Fund.

Examples include:

  • Joint task force in Wisconsin found “clear evidence of fraud in the Nov. 2 election in Milwaukee,” including more than 200 felon voters, more than 100 double voters and thousands more ballots cast than voters recorded as having voted in the city.

  • NAACP National Voter Fund worker in Ohio paid crack cocaine in exchange for a large number of fraudulent voter registration cards in names of Dick Tracy, Mary Poppins and other fictional characters.

  • Former ACORN worker said there was “a lot of fraud committed” by group in Florida, as ACORN workers submitted thousands of fraudulent registrations in a dozen states across the country, resulting in a statewide investigation of the group in Florida and multiple indictments and convictions of ACORN/Project Vote workers for voter registration fraud in several states.

GGOB: Yet to be seen how that turns out. Georgia law makers next agenda. Pass confederate holiday. Pass confederate studies in public schools. Cut state healhcare funding. Take over Hartsfield-Jackson airport

I think you’re missing some things, Here’s the additional agenda:

Make “Divine Design” mandatory in public schools; then watch Georgia fall from 49th in Sciences and Math to 11111,1111,1111 and that’s behind third world war torn countries like Darfur.

Make it mandatory that the student body take “Say No to Sex” classes; then watch the birth rate go up.

Make any type of birth control for unmarried people, (condoms included), against the law; watch STDs, AIDS, and infidelity go WAY up — also the birth rate will go up along with the poverty rate. Oh the incidents of men hitting on other men at Hartsfield-Jackson will go WAY up — no chance of unwanted pregnancies there.

Change the name from Hartsfield-Jackson; back to Hartsfield.

The big switch in party allegiance occurred in the south (Governor Sonny Perdue is a good example), with southern white males.

Also the big shift came when the Democrats started reaching out to minorities, (around the time of JFK).

Some famous (or infamous) past democrats:

Reagan, Trent Lott, Strom Thurmond, Elizabeth Dole.

The southern white male was the most anti-civil rights group of the 50s and 60’s — when the democrats started reaching out to minorities, the Southern white male splintered off from the democrats to at first start their own party, (Dixiecrats), then, Nixon had the brilliant idea to use the race issue to bring them towards the Republican party.

Hence, the “perception” that the Repuglican party is filled with ignorant, angry white males.

How many voters in GA have been charged and convicted of voter fraud in the last 10 years? It does not seem to be a problem that requires immediate and substantial action. Ask the question, how many military personnel who were overseas and voted absentee ballot were denied their constitutional right to cast a vote? How is it that Karl Rove and the Bush administration were not charged with voter couching in violation of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution? The GA law is a very callous attempt to deny many citizens the right to cast a vote. It sounds very similar to the old “poll tax” tactics of years past.

ZERO

Question, How many democrats were “purged” from the Florida roles by Florida Secretary of State Katerhine Harris. Answer 50,000

Funny thing though, in the review of her alleged “felons” listed as voters, 97% turned out NOT TO BE convicted felons — just democrats.

It would later be discovered that approximately 97% of the people removed from the list — and thus denied the right to vote in the election — were not felons at all. The majority of these voters were African-American, and as African-Americans predominantly vote Democratic, the situation suggested foul play. The thousands of votes affected by Choicepoint’s error were far in excess of the number of votes (537) by which George W. Bush won the state.

That’s why the repugs are “linked” with racism — are their tactics seem to be “racist”.

“Democrats, or some Republicans with a change of heart, must articulate — and Americans must demand — a program for ensuring that the middle class gets a bigger share of the economy’s spoils.”

Obviously the cases of voter fraud come from absentee ballots, and not from fake ID’s. This is simply another effort to knock down the votes of poor and black and elderly folk.

But that’s okay - the more the Republicans hunker down into the good ol’ boy party - trashing blacks, and hispanics, and gays, and poor children, and anyone who has the audacity to think for themselves - the more elections they will lose in the future.

Someday some smart Republican - i know, that’s an oxymoron - will look back on this battle and realize it was really harmful to the party.

You really are insane.

Let me break this down in itty bitty little sentences so that even your oxygen deprived mind can get it.

There was no LAW on the florida books that said that Harris should delete 50K registered voters, all BLACK and all “perceived” to be democratic voters. NONE

The deletions were not even CROSS REFERENCED or Double CHECKED by another “indpendent” entity. If a democrat would’ve done something like that to a bunch of republicans, Hannity and Homeboy would’ve still been talking about it.

Basically what she did was hand the GOP a nomination on a silver platter.

Six Hundred military votes that weren’t counted compared to 48,500 that were not even ALLOWED to vote because Harris illegally had them expunged from the rolls, (without even notifying them of their expulsion).

To dumb it down even further here you go:

Harris 2000-, did bad thing. Bad, bad, bad. Harris 2000 made sure blacks couldn’t vote. Very, very bad. Harris 2000, cooked the election for Dumbya. Bad Harris. Bad. Bad. Bad.

Duh!

Photo ID would make it easier to tell if that’s really Osama Bin Laden!

He dyes his hair black. What does that mean? Anyone?

It means he’s not living in a cave. it means he’s out amoung the people, in disquise, with thick rimmed glasses, he probably looks a little like Borat, which means nobody could spot him, certainly not a drone.

It’s like Osama Bin Laden finally saw all of the episodes of “The Fugitive” and figured if David Janson can fool 80,000 cops for years and years with just one bottle of black hair dye, (the same bottle lasted all those episodes!), then he could do it too.

I still maintain that the generals in charge of capturing OBL are incompetent. I could go in and bring him out in two weeks with just a den of cubscouts armed with sling shots, but so far, the pentagon hasn’t answered my calls.

Moron Jim says: In the voter ID case, complaining organizations scoured the state, searching high and low from the tidewaters of Glenn to the outskirts of Chattanooga, for a single victim aggrieved by the requirement to produce valid photo identification. A single victim. One. One from among 5,079,588 registered voters in Georgia. They could not.

What Moron Jim didn’t tell you is that it’s not registered votes that are the real issue; it’s unregistered voters. It’s this group that the ill conceived racist voter ID law will prevent from voting. Unregistered voters tend to be from minority groups (blacks, Hispanics) and don’t have a drivers license or other state-issued photo id. They must now first get a photo id even before they can be registered. So this law is a very effective way to prevent unregistered voters from getting registered and at the same time preventing registered voters from exercising their constitutional rights.

Another thing that Moron Jim doesn’t tell is that this law as targeted at one group in particular; Hispanics. You see, the racists Republicans that now control Georgia politics see Hispanics as a threat to white male majority rule in Georgia. If they were allowed to vote in large numbers, they may be able to elect someone Hispanic instead of having to vote for a white Anglo male as their representative. Touting illegal immigrants as a scape goat for voter fraud was just an easy way to disguise their true racist agenda.

When you vote Republican, you vote against your own best interests.

As an investigator, I have seen many examples of voter fraud in Georgia, particularly in its small, rural communities. It will continue to exist because it had nothing to do with producing a picture ID. The problem of voter fraud in Georgia overwhelmingly takes the form of candidates paying poor voters to cast ballots for them, most often filling out absentee ballots for the registered voter. Requiring ID at the polls will not end voter fraud and will eliminate very little of it.

(CBS) “People of America,” he says, “lend me your ears.”

So says the most wanted man in the world, Osama bin Laden, appearing in a new videotape which has surfaced nearly six years after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

In it, he rails against Western corporations, neoconservatives, and Democrats in Congress, telling Americans they had voted for Democrats to stop the war, but in his words, the majority party hasn’t made a move worth mentioning.

CBS News consultant Michael Scheuer, a former CIA analyst and author of “Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terror” and “Through Our Enemies’ Eyes: Osama bin Laden, Radical Islam, and the Future of America” (Potomac), has been critical of the administration’s efforts to capture bin Laden, and says the newly-released video shows an al Qaeda leader taunting the U.S. for failing to catch him.

Scheuer spent years tracking al Qaeda as the head of the CIA’s bin Laden unit.

Discussing the video with CBS Saturday Early Show anchor Maggie Rodriguez, Scheuer said, “First of all, the setting is very relaxed, very comfortable. He is not in his camouflaged jacket. There’s no rifle. What he is trying to say is that he is under no pressure from the Americans. The Americans are failing in their effort to kill him, and in their effort to destroy al Qaeda.”

Of our progress in battling al Qaeda, Scheuer said, “It points directly to the fact that we failed utterly in Afghanistan to send enough either intelligence officers or military people.

“You know, we have about 30,000 troops there, and we’ve asked them to defeat the Taliban, keep President Karzai’s government in power, build a democracy, eradicate the opium industry - and in their spare time go after Osama bin Laden.”

The mere appearance of bin Laden, four years after the last new video recording and six years after the 9/11 attacks, “is the reminder of a failed policy.”

The tape’s script seems calculated to authenticate its currency by including pointed references to the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, both of whom took office earlier this year.

Informed sources tell CBS News they now believe he is holed up in a rugged no-man’s land in Northern Pakistan.

“Well, I think they’re blowing a little bit of smoke,” Scheuer said. “They have to say something now that he is back in the public eye, but if you look at the territory, it is impossible to find any single person up there, and we don’t have enough people to do it, and we respect Pakistan’s sovereignty. I guess they’re not going to go into Pakistan.”

Bin Laden makes mention of Scheuer’s writings, saying in the tape, “If you would like to get to know what some of the reasons for your losing your war against us, then read the book by Michael Scheuer.”

Scheuer said the referral makes the point that the former CIA analyst communicates what recent American presidents have not said about the nation’s war against Islamic fundamentalism.

“The war is motivated on the enemy’s side by the impact of our policies,” he said. “It’s not about democracy. It’s not about women’s rights. It’s not about freedom or elections. It has everything to do with the impact of our foreign policy in the Muslim world. It’s not to say that our policy is wrong, it’s simply to try to understand the motivation of your enemy.”

The Intel Center, an independent analysis group which has studied the tape, said that bin Laden makes no overt threat, no indication of an impending attack upon America or its citizens. Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff has also said there is no reason to push the panic button now.

But Scheuer is not convinced.

“The Intel Center is almost always right,” he said. “I think there’s an overwhelming threat in it. Bin laden, again, offered us a chance to convert to Islam, which is required in their religion before they attack us. So to say there’s no threat in this message is just 180 degrees incorrect.”

And the timing of the message, on the eve of the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, “is not a coincidence at all.”

“He is gloating. They think they’re winning, and I think they’re probably correct at the moment.”

Now al-Qaeda has done ticked off the women…

Al Qaeda’s north Africa wing said it was behind the two attacks, one of which was originally intended to target President Abdelaziz Bouteflika himself, according to an Internet statement on Saturday.

“Terrorists are not Muslims” and “The Algerian people reject terrorism and support President Abdelaziz Bouteflika”, chanted the crowd, made up mainly of women.

The statement said al Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb had masterminded Saturday’s suicide truck bombing at a coast guard barracks east of Algiers and an attack in the town of Batna less than 48 hours earlier.

“Violence is not the solution. Social and economic development is the best way to prevent youth from joining the terrorists,” said Fatima Rabia, one of the protesters gathered at an indoor stadium in central Algiers.

Osama’s black beard means he’s not living in caves anymore, he’s out in the population. He’s disquised, and with thick rimmed glasses he probably looks like Borat, which means nobody could spot him, not even a drone.

Osama must have finally seen every single episode of “The Fugitive”, where David Jansen avoided capture all those years by using one little bottle of black hair dye.

I doubt voter fraud has been a serious problem in any recent election, and Democratic charges about Republican motives for pushing voter ID are probably close to the mark. But I also doubt the ID requirement will have any significant (or even insignificant) effect on any upcoming election. It’s not like aquiring an ID requires a 300 mile trek behind a team of sled dogs through cannibal infested swamps(uphill - both ways, of course).

Just because there may have been sleazy political motivations on the part of some of those promoting voter ID doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad idea.
