Genarlow gambled and lost

State Sen. Eric Johnson (R-Savannah) the top ranking member of the Georgia State Senate nailed it Monday in reacting to the decision handed down in the Genarlow Wilson child molestation case. “The Georgia Supreme Court already ruled on the constitutionality of some of this,” he said of the decision by Monroe County Superior Court Judge Thomas H. Wilson that the sentence imposed in Douglas County was grossly disproportionate and violated the state constitution. The judge changed Wilson’s felony to a misdemeanor and ordered him freed. Said Johnson, the president pro tem of the State Senate: “I think this was another…[judge] enjoying his 15 minutes of fame.

Georgia’s Attorney General Thurbert Baker is right, too, and it’s a mark of the man’s courage that he elected not to take the easy way out. “The law in Georgia is clear that while a habeas court may grant habeas relief, there is absolutely no authority for a habeas court to reduce or modify the judgment of the trial court,” said Baker.

The Wilson case has gotten so absurd that activist Joseph Lowery urged Baker to drop the appeal — or resign — and to set this “political prisoner” free. It would have been awfully easy for Baker to capitulate to such pressure. But it would have been wrong. The Legislature acted and intentionally chose not to revisit more than 90 cases like or similar to Wilson’s.

What’s more, there’s the matter of the four other males at the same party who agreed to plead guilty to aggravated child molestation involving the same 15-year-old girl and sexual battery of the dazed 17-year-old. A fifth male also pleaded guilty to false imprisonment.

Wilson chose to run the table, rejecting a plea bargain, while gambling that he could beat the rap. He didn’t. Even as late as last weekend, Wilson was offered a plea deal that would have accomplished his stated objectives and he turned it down, according to the attorney general. The deal would let Wilson plead as a first-offender “which would mean he would not have a criminal record nor would be subject to registering on the sex offender registry once his sentence has been completed,” said Baker. It would have been a shorter sentece and might have set him free based on time served. Wilson and his lawyer rejected it.

Bad judgment. Bad advice. Repeatedly. Justice is not about just this “political prisoner,” as Lowery calls him. It’s about the 90-plus others without public relations machines, or the five others who accepted plea bargains. Wilson was determined to set himself apart from the law so that he’d be right and the law, the prosecutor, trial court and legislature would all be wrong. He appears to have found a 15-minutes-of-fame judge who is willing to go along. The judge’s ruling was a shocker; its reversal won’t be.

Nice cherry pick Jim,

If you’ll recall, the jury found those boys innocent of all charges brought by the “dazed 17 year old”.

So that’s a nice effort on your part to portray her as a victim, but she’s not….she was a willing participant. A jury of shocked and disturbed Georgians said so.

Neither is the 15 year old, who didn’t want any part of this.

So who’s the victim here Jim?

What crime was committed?

And who cares if there are 90 other similar cases out there. Is the Georgia General Assembly too busy to convey justice? Is it just too big of a headache for them to ensure that citizens of Georgia are treated equally and fairly under the law?

Too bad they’re spending all their time squabbling among themselves to address real issues.

Too bad all those Republicans haven’t fixed Georgia yet.

As I said yesterday, imploring the president to pardon Scooter while taking this stance against a then-17 year old kid who made a mistake really shows one’s true colors.

As a former teacher, I can see hundreds of my students, white, black, purple or polka-dotted in this situation.

Is there a word from the Lord this morning?

Can Americans imagine what the boy’s sexual proclivities will be from this point forward? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you are part of the problem my friends.

The authorities should know if one incarcerates any seventeen year old boy for having unlawful consensual sex with a fifteen year old girl, his mental and sexual development will most likely be perverted. The pleasure of sex and the pain of prison will become psychologically interwoven, sadism.

What most of us know as general sexual activity between man and woman has been taken away from Genarlow Wilson and others by adults. His normal mental and sexual development has been hijacked by what appears to be adults who hate America and her institutions. Consequently, these hateful people cowardly seek to condition the average American to distrust all institutions by using the letter of the law at every opportunity. They seek to create as much institutional confusion as possible in their effort to enslave the average American.

By the way, agent provocateurs have persuaded some Americans to believe its Genarlow Wilson’s fault. They will say he didn’t take responsibility. All of this happened because of the choices he made. What he did is against the law. He did not know the secret, the law of attraction. He has caused his own demise.

This case speaks volumes to the internal issues of adults rather than to a sentence in the life of Genarlow Wilson.

It’s been known since time immemorial. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high and low places.

In the words of our children, “it’s real yall.”

Dementia Jim: Because of G. Wilson’s plight AND appeal, an antiquated, outdated, law was brought to light, (regular sex with a minor gets you a fine, oral gets you time), and the law that was eventually struck down by Georgia lawmakers as too “loop holish” for teenagers (which was initially concoted to stop Sexual Predators of children; not jack & jill sex acts between two consenting individuals), was eventually rewritten and made more pertinent to the relevance of each situation.

His appeal brought this about; yet you sit there at your little keyboard typing the most ridiculous, asinine CRAP known to man; it’s amazing!! You call yourself a JOURNALIST??? Why not call your self what you really are…. a Republican Hack Writer psuedo intelligent Elitist.

Normally I don’t comment on your blog. Its simply too asinine. But regarding G. Wilson you have simply lost your mind. Regardless of what MAN’S LAW says, or T. Baker does to support it, MAN’S LAW is FLAWED!!

The situation G. Wilson is in could have happened to any teenager engaging in consentual teenage sex. But the stickler is geniune sexual predators generally receive a lighter sentence. Wilson just stood up for what he believes in … his own innocence. For those of you all who believes he should rot in jail must be apart of the 40 year old virgin crew, or your own sex lives are so screwed up that you can’t help but be anal.

Finally, to Charles … What the hell are you talking about?!

Oh, boo hoo hoo for this jock.

Jim is right, he was offered plea deals (including one over the weekend which would most likely freed him now) and he turned them down. Most likely because he’s listening to all these enabling mushheads who are telling him “Genarlow, you didn’t do anything wrong, you poor victim!”. Like the lot of you.

I call BS. There were 5 males involved, most who had been in trouble with the law before. The prosecutor saw something on the tape that disturbed him enough to bring charges. The jury felt he deserved some punishment, even if they don’t think it’s 10 years worth. The girl was 15, which calls into question if she was able to consent.

No, this dummy shouldn’t have gotten 10 years, but he did something wrong, and his inability to admit that is what’s keeping his a## in jail. Let him sit there. UGA and the NFL don’t need another football player that badly. And society doesn’t need another black male athlete who thinks they are to be given a free pass like the one most of you want to give.

This is one more instance where justice is not equal and politicians cause more problems than they solve.

If GA politicians were not pandering so hard for votes, then the law which was unnecessary to begin with would never have been passed.

We have too many laws which are selectively enforced ONLY for political purposes (to get DA’s elected for higher office). This whole event was obviously a travesty of justce from the very beginning.

Plea bargains are horribly misused and in many cases, the financial condition of the accused is more relevant for plea bargains than what they really did.

The justice system is heavily weighted against the poor and under educated, and the prisons they end up in only worsens their condition.

This systematic wealth-based justice is horribly broken and is used as a means of intimidation and oppression by selfish prosecutors who want to get elected for being tough on crime.

How in the world can we fix this?

The Genarlow issue is one that we can ALL agree on. The state rep. who WROTE THE BILL has acknowledged that he never meant it to apply to cases such as Genarlow’s.

Of course, as soon as the Georgia courts are done bumbling their way through this, Genarlow will have a federal habeas claim that (in my humble opinion) will almost certainly be granted. For now, the focus of the sane should be on getting the Atty Gen to agree to bond pending appeal.

(My own lust for football likely contributes to the skewed sense of values we, as a society, impart to athletes, too.) The jock delusions of superiority and expectations of special treatment do them no good in the long run, nor the people around them. This is an issue worth addressing in the schools and sports programs, I believe!

The main issue here is that the law is unequally applied. If you’re not going to throw all the kids who do this in jail, then this one has served enough time already! It might not be too late for him to transform this lesson into some humility and respect for others; the young man deserves a chance — the same chance all the others walking around free are getting.

Genarlow KNEW he could be thrown in jail for his behavior, was stupid enough to TAPE IT, and then was even STUPIDER to gamble on the idea that he might not get prosecuted and serve JAIL time for having sex with JAILBAIT.

As has been said, he has been offered NUMEROUS bargains that would let him accomplish his stated goals: no jail time and no sex offender registry. He has turned them ALL down.

I say lock him up for LIFE for being so dang STUPID. It is already apparent that he WILL be back in jail after he is released. In his case, it isn’t IF but WHEN. After all, if we let him slide, it just teaches him that he can get away with breaking the law and having VIDEOTAPED PROOF that he broke the law.

Nobody else would treat Genarlow like he was responsible for his actions, including his mommy, panting football recruiters, and now Al Sharpton.

As Jim points out, Genarlow decided to stick to his “I ain’t done nothin’ wrong, you ain’t charging me with s&%t, Mr. Man” stance. This forced the DA into either letting Genarlow go out there and land his privileged penis anywhere he deemed okay, or charging him under another law that had harsh penalties.

According to Mr. Wooten and State Senator Johnson, if the judge makes a decision they agree with, then he’s couragous. Sit on your arse (thanks, Englishman) whine about injustice, and criticize those who do work hard & raise their families right and you’ll receive little compassion.

The most startling comment is that 15 year old girls can’t consent to have sex. Then how can they consent to not have sex? Young women are at the height of fertility between the ages of 15 and 19 years of age. Unlike ours, this is child bearing age in many different cultures. I don’t see why Gennarlow’s in jail for 10 years for receiving a sex act that a 15 year old girl of sound mind consentually gave him. I’d like to know what she’s doing now.

The cruelest punishment is to tell him in the morning that he’s leaving and then tell him in the afternoon that he’s staying. That’s cruel and unusual punishment.

By RJ

I admire Genarlow Wilson for not taking a plea. He never claimed that that he didn’t do what he’s was accused of doing; he knows he broke the law. Wilson is fighting, however, because the law he broke is unjust. If he accepted a plea, then the others that are in prison for the same “crime” are unlikely to get the justice they deserve (for cruel and unusual punishment).

The prosecutor and others accuse Wilson of wanting to be a martyr — as if that’s a bad thing. I agree that he’s acting as a martyr. For that, I applaud him. Its martyrs like him that bring about needed change for the benefit of the rest of us.

“Thug” is the new term for “thug”. It applies also to young white men who get into altercations with strippers in their frat house. What a creepy bunch they are. Having 29 arrests qualifies one for thug status. I suggest y’all leave the race card to Al Sharpton, he’s a lot better at using it in a case where the defendant and the victim are both black. As well as the Attorney General who is currently “oppressing” Genarlow.

I’d be more inclined to say—-from reading some posts elsewhere, “ho” is the new term for “n%&$r”. It’s certainly been applied with great gusto to the African-American 15 year old.

Heaven FORBID if they don’t want to “admit” guilt when they feel that there is none; it’s better to “admit” to something that you didn’t do in order to make you proud parents of the Confederacy feel better about yourself.

Oh, Debbie, let’s put Genarlow in charge of deciding what’s right and wrong. Great plan. God forbid he should think the law applies to him. His buddies all realized that point, which is why they pled to the charges they were offered. Genarlow decided he was better than everyone else.

Good morning all,

Kudos to JW for finally acknowledging the story.

Debbie, Aquagirl’s perspective may be a bit stereotypical, but she’s probably looking at things from a unfortunately not-too-uncommon point of reference. Girls and women are exploited on a daily basis, and Georgia certainly is no exception to that.

Personally, I think the guys at Duke are thugs, too, without regard to their blond-haired, square-jawed, Country Club of the South lineage.

If you’re looking for someone who uses those terms as euphemisims for racial epithets, you know Andy/TFTT/Lying/Verminous/Scum/whatever is your man. He/She/It loves to use “black,” “thug” and “snigger” whenever it wants to address any matter associated with race - which is pretty much daily.

Back on point. Nobody said Wilson was a saint. But he was a kid who got caught in a system through the perversion of a law that wasn’t intended to target lascivious teens, but child molesters.

Thurbert Baker, sudden hero of the Right, claims to respect the finding of a habeas court but does not respect it’s holding.

We can debate legal technicalities all day, but this case, and the 100 or so cases like it that form the “floodgate issue” that Baker’s losing sleep over, are predicated on tortured interpretations of poorly reasoned/written laws. That’s the larger problem here.

AquaGirl: Maybe you’ve forgotten, but Wilson didn’t plead innocent to morals, he pleaded innocent to the charge of sexually molesting the 15 yo girl. The tape showed that she intiated the sex act against him. Maybe SHE should be the one in jail and not him. What amazes me in all this is that even the backwards, tobacco spitting GEORGIA CONGRESS revised the law because it was unfair to teenagers caught in similiar situations; yet you sit there and say, with an apparent straight face; that Wilson’s sentence is OK, even though it has already been deemed CRUEL by the Legislature. • OF COURSE NOT. I was being sarcastic!!Geesh!!!*

Then I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt on jailing her for “initiating” the sex act. Otherwise, you are one horrific sicko.

You do seem to be arguing that since the girl participated without being forced, that nothing is wrong with the situation. I disagree. 15 is too young to be able to distinguish the motives or consequences of such an act. You argue that Genarlow should be excused because he’s too young to control himself or understand, but the younger girl shouldn’t? Do what?

Listen: Once again, this law was not applied to a boyfriend/girlfriend situation. This was a 15 year old invited to party with the pristine Genarlow and his band of Merry Men, who had at least 46 arrests between them. All of them were older. And if Genarlow didn’t know anything about the law, all he had to do was ask his criminal-justice experienced buddies. Since one was charged with statuatory rape of a 12 year old, they knew all about age of consent.

Now, doesn’t that make you think a little bit about why the DA would go after Genarlow when he just wanted to act like he was a dumb 17 year old? He wasn’t. He was acting in concert with very serious criminal types, and taping his behavior—that’s not horny guy behavior, that’s creepy and makes you think he’s past the hormone-charged young guy thing.

I don’t think his sentence is fair. But I don’t think he’s entitled to say “I didn’t know” and escape all legal consequences for his actions. He tried to do that, and like Jim says…he gambled and lost. It’s his fault he’s in jail for such a disproportionate time. He was offered a more sensible…and appropriate…deal.

  • King George,Alma,Ground Control*, If you look at the trend of the conversation, it was strictly about immigration reform. It is at that point Alma made her statement. You would think it was in that light she was addressing me. But I forget thinking is not one of your best attributes. Boy your right, throwing slurs requires no thought. What fun!

GOD RCH! Do you really think that just because you are present here on this blog that every comment revolves around you? OK AquaGirl here’s a brief scenario of how justice can be perverted. January 2005; my 16 year old nephew and my then 12 year old step son visited me for the holidays. The nephew meets this attractive girl at the movies; they talk on the phone, make kissing noises, etc. and make plans to hang out a couple of times a week. I spoke to the girl on the phone; she sounded sensible and I approved their going out for the upcoming weekend.

When it came time for the date, I finally got a chance to meet this girl and notice that she looks VERY mature for her age, which at the time I thought was probably the same as my nephew. I ask her how old she was, she told me TWENTY. I ask her if she knew my nephew was only SIXTEEN; she was shocked she said no. Needless to say that if anything were to have “went down” between my nephew and this girl of a sexual nature SHE would’ve been in big trouble; even though she had no idea, (my nephew who is a big 6’4 running back looks like he’s between 19 and 21 lied about his age), that my nephew was underage her life could’ve been ruined forever.

My sister-in-law would’ve screamed “Statuatory Rape” without even caring about the circumstances; and this girl could’ve been railroaded through the system because basically my nephew LIED.

Moral of this story: KIDS MAKE MISTAKES, sometimes they are LIED to by other kids around them; and sometimes they are AROUND people who they shouldn’t be around. It doesn’t make them permanenet deginerates NOR does it make them wanton sexual beings. It just makes them HUMAN. My sister-in-law, if she ever found out, would’ve made this into a “she took advantage of my boy” episode, when actually her boy took advantage of the girl.

Trying looking at something from the other side for once.

Aquagirl wrote, “…Genarlow and his band of Merry Men, who had at least 46 arrests between them.

First, this information is misleading since Genarlow Wilson had zero prior arrests. Second, our justice system isn’t supposed to send a person to jail or decide a punishment based on who his friends are. Third, even if the criminal records of Wilson’s friends was relevant (they’re not), listing the number of arrests is unfair and misleading (innocent black kids in poor neighborhoods are arrested all the time — without being convicted).

The facts about Wilson’s bad behavior that day are bad enough. We don’t need to mislead others with the false implication that he had prior arrests and that the arrests (not convictions) of others with him that day are somehow relevant to his conviction and punishment.

My question: when is David McDade going to charge the girl’s parents with neglect and child endangerment for allowing her to attend the party? McDade obviously doesn’t understand the spirit of the law vs the letter of the law. If her parents gave their innocent babe permission to be with, what was it someone said earlier, “black thugs,” then surely mommy and daddy have also broken the law by allowing Precious to be in the company of such depraved youth…er, grown men who are capable of committing such heinous acts with a promiscuou…er, sweet, angelic, child.

If her parents didn’t know that she was at the party, then surely they must be horrible parents for not knowing their child’s whereabouts. CALL DFACS NOW! This is gross negligence.

see just how sick and twisted homos and butch d ikes are

The Supreme Court has been asked to reverse rulings that found the terms “marriage,” “natural family,” and “union of a man and woman” can be punished as hate speech in government workplaces.

The Washington Times reports the phrases were in a flyer distributed by city employees in Oakland, California. The flyers were in response to a homosexual group that was allowed to post promotional material on the city’s e-mail system.

But a lesbian co-worker complained she felt “targeted” and “excluded” by the flyers — which the city ordered removed. The authors of the flyer sued, claiming discrimination, and lost.

The group representing the women who wrote the flyers says the rulings have silenced hundreds who simply wish to talk about marriage and family values.

and the award for the most self absorbed eco whacko nutter of the week goes to:

People feeling sad about the supposed impending demise of Europe’s largest glacier due to global warming can now get what is being called a “one-to-one beautiful and intimate moment” with the glacier.

Scottish artist Katie Paterson has set up a phone line over which you can hear the sounds of the icy waters that supposedly are absorbing the Vatnajokull glacier.

Paterson says she came up with the idea during a visit to Iceland — when she drank glacier water while suffering from fever-induced hallucinations — an act that made her feel part of the glacier. So she dropped a microphone into the lagoon and patched it into a phone line which you can call — and be advised international calling rates do apply.

Also — only one person at a time can get through — and that’s in order to preserve that intimacy with the glacier.

Susie, Your story is neat, but keep in mind the age of consent is 16, so your nephew could have put it to a 30 year old and she wouldn’t have been guilty of anything (legally). Thanks, Aquagirl for taking my point to it’s logical extreme and twisting the argument. If a 15 year old girl willingly participates in a sexual act with a 17 year old boy then she is capable of having sex with the boy. I am not saying that it is right and a good idea, I am only saying that it means that the boy should NOT be doing 10 years for his role in it. Conversely, if, for example the savvy 15 year old girl had a friend that decided it would be better to stay home on New Years Eve and not participate in a drunken orgy, then what do you say about that 15 year old girl’s ability to judge right from wrong?

SusieHomeMaker—stick to baking cookies instead of arguing. If this was to have “gone down” in Georgia, the age of consent is 16. Your sister-in-law could have screamed until her lips fell off and nobody could have charged the woman for nailing jailbait. Kids lie, duh. Maybe you should try looking at this from the point of view of the 15 year-old’s parents. Having a bunch of 17 year old hoodlums (God, I’m running out of synonyms for “thug”) rent a room and tape group sex with your underage daughter would motivate most parents to want punishment. And it’s deserved.

But it is interesting how parents will make their kids out to be poor little sweetums who are being picked on. See; Genarlow’s mama, who would have been better off investing her time in slapping her child upside the head for running with thieves and having (at best) group sex.

Do kids lie about their age? Yep. But if you get caught having sex with a minor, on tape (again, creepy enough to get any prosecutor to press charges) then you better be ready to accept some measure of legal hammering.

Ashley, I deliberately mentioned the 46 arrests after the “Band of Merry Men” to indicate that they had arrest records, not Genarlow. Why do you think that his friend’s records don’t have any relevance? Yes, such things are not introduced in court, but prosecutors use such factors all the time to decide who gets charged with what.

When the cops burst into a crackhouse, and you’re there with your 5 friends who have lenghthy drug records, arguing “the dope wasn’t mine” isn’t going over well. Did it ever occur to you that Genarlow was hanging out with lowlife child molesters because he’s a lowlife child molester? Gee whiz!

Prosecutorial judgement can, and should be applied to individual cases. Someone has to make those decisions. The prosecutor saw the tape. You didn’t. He’s in charge. You’re not. Thank God. Genarlow rots, unable to rut with 15 year old girls.

Aquagirl,

Contrary to your assertion, I am in charge (along with you and all other voters). I get to vote for Attorney General, Georgia Supreme Court Justices and those that represent me in the General Assembly. I also can e-mail such representatives between elections to let them know how I feel. And as one who is in charge, I can also express my opinion on blogs such as this.

In fact, I recently learned that my representative in the House (who happens to agree with you on this issue) is extremely vulnerable for the next election. I can assure you that I’ll do my part to defeat him, in part, to replace him with a legislator who would modify the law in order to release Wilson and the dozens of other innocents ensnared by this silly legal loophole.

RCH is more transparent than stupid. RCH has already told us that he is a headhunter for a firm that trades in IT professionals from abroad. RCH tells us that he is opposed to the Immigration bill in the Senate because of his irrational fears that it will burden the US Treasury. I suspect that RCH’s motivations are more selfish. RCH knows that if the point system based on skills and education proposed in the bill is adopted that it will have a couple of detrimental effects to him. Asian workers will no longer be able to bring their extended families over. And, under the point system a professional from anywhere in the world could qualify for a work Visa without necessarily having a job before they get here. Companies like RCH’s will be cut out of the headhunting business. Plus, there is no guarantee that the professional degree obtained offshore will equip the individual with the skills necessary for a high-tech job here in the US. People like RCH are happy with the status quo and are more interested in expanding the current employment-based visa program. They couldn’t give a rat’s a$$ about the border, homeland security, the treasury or 12 million John Doe’s in this country. It’s all about RCH.

Debbie—-focus for a moment—-OLDER person is responsible for inappropriate conduct with YOUNGER person. Younger person is viewed as vulnerable. OLDER person is responsible. Not YOUNGER person. 17 year old does not molest 27 year old. So you’re serious about jailing the 15 year old instead of Genarlow after all…those youngsters are such tempting little hussies! Who can resist such a wanton kid!

Either you’re brain damaged, or you’re ignoring logic so you can whine about anyone else’s behavior but Genarlow’s. How very enabling of you. Nice try, but no cigar. Genarlow is still hangin’ onto his soap in the shower, despite all jock-sniffing to the contrary.

So like a pack of Pavlov’s rabid leftist dogs they puke up loads of nasty names, visceral personal crude abuse - often with a hypocritical queer/homo theme and then they racebait and distort what ever is posted on here. Or if they’re having a really bad tiny brain day they just anally and robotically blame Bush and the GOP.

These leftists are very sick hate America cowards who like a virulent cancer are destroying this great nation!!

Responding to Aquagirl’s post, in Ashley’s defense, she used the phrase “in part” when referring to her vote on the issue of Genarlow Wilson, I’m quite certain, to specifically express that she is concerned about other issues as well. AG seems to have missed that.

With regard to AG’s comment to the effect that we’re using the Constitution to “run the country” — while that is true (albeit poorly articulated), I don’t believe this truth contradicts the truth regarding one’s rigth to apply her [shared] authority in the voting booth.

Clearly, Ashley intends to use her authority to vote for those who would seek to rectify legislation that was out of compliance with Constitution — specifically legislation that doesn’t comply with the clause in the Eighth Amendment that reads “cruel and unusual punishments [shall not be] inflicted”. I join her in that effort.

Debbie, I consider reading fundamental. Reading every bit of teen sex smut to fuel a defense of a THUG isn’t really the way to spend reading time wisely. I read a couple of the basic articles which focus on Genarlow’s case. I’m also not currently reading any background on Paris Hilton’s case, or why WTC 7 collapsed. Just so ya know.

Again…you blame the 15 year old (go ahead, Debbie, call her a slut who ruined these poor boy’s lives) the DA, the DA’s kid, Thurbert Baker, Georgia Legislators….Oh, I’m sure George Bush, the Easter Bunny, and Texaco Oil Inc. have a share of the blame too.

Sweet little Genarlow just has no responsibility, even though it was his d*& in a 15 year old’s mouth. Turning down tender young flesh like that just can’t be considered by an All-American Football Hero. It’s part of his training regimen. Berry, I don’t agree that we should always blame the parents, or even society.

Back before there was hardcore rap (not ALL rap), children were engaging in these premarital sex acts. They’ve just gone aboveboard these days, blame them.

These children have a mind of their own REGARDLESS of what their parents may teach them (in some cases). I do blame media though for putting the ideas out there. They make it hard for parents to do their job when they keep lobbying to be allowed to put filth on our airwaves. All the channel blocks in the world can’t keep smut from all of our kids.

Self-confidence. The liberal(s) HATE that quality in an individual RCH. Their only recourse is to tell the source of their frustration, in this case you RCH, how stupid you are. A declaration on their behalf which can’t debate you on the issues.

On the immigration bill….

When liberals petitioned their Democratic Congress to stop the war, their party failed them miserably.

When conservatives along with some liberals petitioned the senate to stop the immigration bill, the Republican senators listened and responded.

Genarlow committed an illegal and immoral act, and wanted no punishment. Twerp.

By Georgia's legislators are criminals

June 12, 2007 4:41 PM | Link to this

That’s the basic fact regarding all of their “sex offender” legislation. Take a look at any of it. They have not and are not “protecting children”. They have in fact done the opposite with their legislation all the while retroactively and constantly violating the rights of Americans. The cost of their legislation will increase year after year and it will cost billions (yes, with a “b”). ALL experts have told them this but they are too arrogant and obstinate to care.

The main criminals are Jerry Keen, Eric Johnson, John Wiles, and David Ralston. They are bad for Georgia. In preparation for the 2008 election, as the next legislative session starts, they will resume their “sex offender” lies in hopes of your ignorant, blind support and vote. Don’t get your “facts” from politicians. Learn the truth and then get the criminals out of office.

Irrelevant vitriol aside, it seems to me that most posters on this blog can agree that Wilson broke the law as it existed at the time of the party. It also appears that posters agree that sexually active fifteen year olds are not in the state’s interest, but have existed for as long as there have been fifteen year olds. Posters’ attacks on the fifteen year old in question remind me of rapists’ courtroom tactic of blaming the victim, that smearing a victim’s morals, past behavior or clothing can or should turn a clear ‘no’ into something that could be understood as a ‘yes’, casting the aggressor as misunderstood. A defense attorney (or blogger) can impugn the morals of a victim of a sex crime all day long, but it is not relevant. Wilson was older, he had sex with a person who was not legally able to consent, and he therefore broke the law.

That said, the primary bone of contention seems to be the length of Wilson’s sentence. Given the high percentage of teenagers who are sexually active and the inequity of punishment for oral versus genital sex, it seems absolutely out of line to keep Wilson in prison for ten years. That point has been made to the Georgia Legislature, which agreed and which passed a law to address the situation in future cases. Legislators were pointedly asked to make the change retroactive to cover Wilson and the ninety-odd other Georgians in similar situations, and they considered and rejected the issue.

Wilson’s appeals, up until now, have failed because he did indeed commit the crime for which he was convicted and imprisoned. The success of his last appeal is due to the willingness of a judge to usurp power from a jury to the bench, in contradiction to Georgia’s constitution and past practice, and the Attorney General is right to contest the action. Regardless of how one feels about Wilson, there is no precedent or statute for a judge to change the nature of a crime for which someone has been acquitted and declare the actions of a jury null and void.

So where does this leave Wilson? In prison, serving out a disproportionate sentence on what appears to be extraordinarily bad advice from his counsel. What should be done? He should take the bargain offered by the DA and get out immediately. He will not have a criminal record, not have to register as a sex offender, and can get on with his life. His case has already brought the necessary attention to the legal inequity, and it has been redressed. I cannot understand why his attorney has not pressed him to accept, and fear that she may be more interested in crusading jurisprudence and her own career exposure in place of her client’s best interest. Wilson’s supporters should have drawn up a petition for pardon, be collecting signatures and get it in front of the governor while Wilson rebuilds his life.

He broke the law. He changed the law. He paid the price. Taxpayers have footed the bill for all of it. Wilson should use the sensible options available to him instead of holding out for unreasonable vindication of a crime he did indeed commit.

Wilson feels that he is an innocent man unlike the other 5 guys in this cases, let him fight for his belief…I feel as if no one in this case is getting any type of celebrity status from this case. The only reason why I see this case receiving alot of media attention is because here u have a young man who’s fighting for his innocence with outstanding evidence (a video tape), in which just about the whole GA legal system has saw…but still, he feels as if 10 year is way too much for a misdemeanor charge and I totally agree. Now the plea deals that he was given was not bad at all….but I don’t blame him for turning those down for fighting for his freedom either..People need to realize that the actions that happen in this case happens everyday. Majority of these young ladies in HS, who r active and having babies, u best believe the men who father these kids r 21 and over….So why aren’t they being sentence to 10 yrs +? I’m quite sure they realize videotaping the incident wasn’t a GREAT idea…but hell, when you’re in the mist of feeling high and drunk anything is possible, and people know of there actions in the spare of the moment. Especially when u can wake up the next day talking about it…So let this MAN GO!!!! If the victim mother is speaking out on the news and is stating that she feels as if G. Wilson is innocent herself, can her partake have some type of affect on his sentence too, so he can be release and venture off in life as her daughter is doing so in the NAVY!!!! The GA Corrections System is so messed up it isn’t even funny….
