Two-fer candidates? No thanks.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
One marriage “partnership” I’ll never get accustomed to is that the spouse of an elected official should have any decision-making policy role whatsoever. Rudy Giuliani, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, found it necessary to clarify comments suggesting that his wife would play a significant role in his administration.
In an interview Thursday with Barbara Walters, Giuliani said he would be receptive to having his wife, Judith Nathan Giuliani, attend Cabinet meetings on issues in which she had an interest. “If she wanted to” and “if they were relevant to something she’s interested in,” said Giuliani, “I mean that would be something that I’d be very, very comfortable with.” The comment produced a flood of HillaryCare two-fer President memories. Not good. He later clarified his remarks.
“Obviously, she will not be a Cabinet member or attend most Cabinet meetings — if any. But she will pursue a campaign to educate Americans on preventing illness and promoting overall health.” His wife was a nurse.
In general, it was not a good week for Giuliani, whose support in a USA Today- Gallup Poll taken March 23-25 revealed a drop of 13 percentage points among Republicans and Independents to 31 percent from a March 2-4 poll. Of course the news for Gov. Mitt Romney was worse, as he dropped from 8 to 3. The gainer was former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson (R-Tenn), who registered at 12 percent. This is the first time he was included.
Giuliani certainly appeals. His leadership after 9/11 and his ability to manage New York City spenders make him a candidate to be taken seriously. The six marriages — three for him, three for his wife — are a problem, since one of the issues the next President needs to confront is the unacceptably high rate rate of births to unmarrieds and the decline of traditional two-parent families.
As for the wife in the Cabinet meetings, we do live in an era of two-career households. And since intelligent people are inclined to marry intelligent people, the temptation to elect a two-fer is always there. But the spouse is a position where his or her influence over policy matters cannot be precisely gauged or effectively challenged. I didn’t want a two-fer with Hillary, don’t want it with Bill and don’t want it with Judith. One on the ballot. One in the office.

Regarding Guliani and Judy Nathan, a few points need to be clarified.
I certainly don’t want an unelected First Lady setting policy, but what the Guiliani’s were talking about is nothing like Hillary’s takeover of Domestic policy, where she had her fingerprints on everything.
Here is the interview transcript for the full context:
WALTERS: How much involvement will your wife have in your campaign?
MR. GIULIANI: As much as she wants.
WALTERS: Will your wife be involved in policy decisions?
MR. GIULIANI: To the extent she wants to be. I couldn’t have a better advisor.
WALTERS: Will you sit in on policy meetings?
MRS. GIULIANI: Again, if she asks me to, yes. And, certainly, in the areas of health care.
WALTERS: If and when you are president, will Mrs. Giuliani sit in on cabinet meetings?
MR. GIULIANI: If she wanted to. If they were relevant to something she was interested in, that would be something that I would be very, very comfortable with.
Barbara Walters began it as a discussion of his CAMPAIGN and POLICY meetings and switched it midstream to CABINET meetings. Mrs. Guiliani’s response was to being a CAMPAIGN advisor.
That is a distinction with a difference.
Secondly, “non-traditional marriages” translates to gay marriages or “swinging” marriages not marriages that end in divorce.
Third, there is a huge difference between people having multiple children by multiple sperm donors out of wedlock and the Guilianis’ respective marriages and divorces.

Here’s one General that the Cowards will never quote:
Despite prior leadership mistakes in managing the conflict, our troops in Iraq, coalition partners and Iraqi security forces are showing they can get this job done. Congress must support our soldiers and Marines by giving them the wherewithal to carry the battle to the enemy. Don’t compel our troops to raise the white flag to al Qaeda and the insurgents because of political posturing and defeatist legislation. The bottom line can be summed up in four words: Progress is being made. Now is the time for America and its allies to demonstrate true grit and drive on. James A. Lyons Jr., U.S. Navy retired admiral, was commander in chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, senior U.S. military representative to the United Nations, and deputy chief of naval operations, where he was principal adviser on all Joint Chiefs of Staff matters.
The closer we get to success in Iraq the harder the libs will fight against Bush.
If you don’t believe me, just look and see how a couple of big car bombings in Baghdad sent the Congressional pinkos on a two week vacation.

According to the Tyndall Report, which tracks this sort of thing, during the week of March 12-16, the three network evening newscasts spent a total of 45 minutes on the prosecutors story, with the war in Iraq placing second at 16 minutes. “World News with Charles Gibson” logged 13 of those 45 minutes on the prosecutors. By contrast, in 1993, Attorney General Janet Reno’s wholesale firing of U.S. attorneys appointed by George H.W. Bush was a non-story on the ABC evening news—literally a non-story, according to records kept by the Vanderbilt University Television News Archive, as in zero coverage. Some who voted last week for a fixed deadline to withdraw US troops from Iraq had previously warned that any such deadline would be disastrous. Senator Hillary Clinton, for example, said in 2005: “I don’t believe it’s smart to set a date for withdrawal. I don’t think you should ever telegraph your intentions to the enemy so they can await you.” The enemy hasn’t changed since 2005. Nor have the stakes in this war, nor the courage and commitment of the American troops fighting it. What has changed is control of Congress, and the air is heavy with the smell of irresolution.

No principles, no backbone, no firmly held beliefs with this horror show, even the Cowards at MoveOn have more spine then she does.
No, her whole purpose is to fit as many voters as possible into her mouth, telling them lies, stabbing them in the back, abandoning their soldiers, what ever it takes to get that X next to her name.
And the libs love her, what scumbags they really are.

The Pentagon says it must have Bush’s proposed $100 billion supplemental military appropriations bill by mid-April to fund combat operations in Iraq. Having attached the withdrawal timetables that will compel a Bush veto of the supplemental legislation, Congress is now on its Easter recess. There won’t be any Easter recess in Iraq, of course, where America’s young soldiers and Marines are risking their lives each day and counting on their government to provide the support they need to prevail and survive. What the Democrats have done leaves only days to accomplish the following. Negotiate a compromise with the White House or, failing that, reconcile the differing House and Senate versions, send Bush legislation he is certain to veto, hold override votes and, when the president’s veto is sustained, pass a new military supplemental that Bush can accept. This near impossibility makes a mockery of the Democrats’ platitudes about how “we all support our troops.”
So much for Pelosi’s “new direction” in Congress, it’s off to the ski resorts in their jet fuel hogging jumbo jets.
After 4 never ending non stop years of whining about Republicans not giving the troops armor, not giving the troops equipment, it took the libs a whole 2 months to not give the troops the armor and equipment they need.
So what was the 4 years of whining about, a vote drive maybe?
That’s what these perverts are all about, vote getting, it’s their whole reason for living.
And nothing, including America, will stand in the way of a few new voters in their camp.

The hometown newspaper, eating that as-s up:
The U.S. Senate passed a war-funding bill last week. According to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., this will “change the course in Iraq” by giving our troops “an effective, successful strategy for victory in Iraq.” Why, just reading that you’d think that Sen. Reid is giving American soldiers a green light to kick some major butt in Baghdad. You’d be wrong. What Harry is really saying is that “victory” means hightailing it out of Iraq. In that regard, Harry Reid’s deliberately evasive position on Iraq wears extremely thin. When the war began, Harry was gung-ho and voted so.- Las Vegas Review Journal

Good morning all. I’m not that wild about Rudy – although I do see him as the next president – and I know nothing about his wife. I share Jim’s distaste for policy-advisor spouses. There are a million symbolic jobs for the spouse of the chief executive, and the symbolic things matter. The two-fer was not unique to the Clinton administration – Edith Galt Wilson, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosalind Carter, and Nancy Reagan were often criticized for the influence they wielded. Of course, those spouses were people of obviously-good character, and Hillary will not have that selling point in a campaign. Michael Medved recently wrote an essay pondering what Hillary could do about the “Bill problem,” discovering six or seven potential solutions (one of which is permanent!)
On the positive front, I am delighted to see the surprising groundswell for one particular undeclared candidate, jbmlaw’s candidate of choice – restores my faith in the judgment of the American electorate.

Markus@4:41 Hate to burst your bubble, I know how hard it is when reality intrudes on what you believe, but if you want someone to blame for why there is no drilling off of the Florida coast, try W’s little brother, Jeb (the competent son of George and Barbara). It seems all of those property owners, with water front property in Florida are also NIMBYs. They also tend to write large checks to politicians (probably a few of them are even rangers for W). Personally, I have no problem with drilling in ANWR, provided they also drill off the Florida coast.

Guiliani did a good job after 9/11 when the usual suspect went AWOL when his country needed him most. I don’t know if i can even use a pronoun to mention it. Remember Vietnam folks and the National guard. AWOL!!
I think there Guiliani did a good job to re-assure the nation and bring calm. The man who was supposed to do it was burning jet fuel, circling all over America, with a tail under his behind and frightened contotion showing on its brow! But being married six times(between them) and trying to have the wife-for-now crash the Cabinet meetings would be too much(if he ever gets there) With their record, I am sure other orgy partners from the past would be invited to come as well. And that does not bode well for America. Does love, devotion, commitment and loyalty mean the same thing to Guiliani and partners as it means to everybody else in America….anybody who is not Guiliani or Gingrich?!!!! Clinton is a womanizer, we know that. But Guiliani is Hugh Hefner many times over. The guy drops and changes over women faster than most filthy Republicans change their underwear!!!!
