Disgusting use of pork

President Bush, speaking of the shameless Democrats and a few Republicans who sent the Senate a porked-up troop funding bill with a surrender timetable on Iraq:

“They set rigid restrictions that would require an army of lawyers to interpret. They set an arbitrary date for withdrawal with no regard for conditions on the ground. And they tacked on billions in pet projects that have nothing to do with winning the war on terror. This bill has too much pork, too many conditions and an artificial timetable for withdrawal. As I’ve made clear for weeks I will veto it if it comes to my desk.”

The two Georgia House members who would have been defeated in 2008 had they voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi — Jim Marshall of Macon and John Barrow of Savannah — voted no. U.S. Reps. David Scott of Atlanta and Sanford Bishop of Columbus — voted yes. Both were once thought to be moderates, but Scott has moved to the left, recognizing that he’s most vulnerable to a primary challenge in a safe Democratic district that runs around the west side of Atlanta.

Bishop, likewise, is more vulnerable from the left than the right, even though his Southwest Georgia district is largely rural and it’s conservative on defense and security issues. But it’s one, too, that’s heavily agricultural. Bishop, who refers to himself as “the peanut congressman,” was among those who put $74 million into the Iraq funding bill to cover storage fees for peanut growers. Shameful. Paying farmers to sell out the country at war by consenting to the imposition of a pull-out timetable is a disgusting use of political pork.

U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Atlanta, a bellwether of the party’s anti-war fringe, voted against the bill because he wants the troops out of Iraq yesterday. The left so overplays its hand. With Lewis and Pelosi in the lead, it will again on Iraq.

Since a veto is guaranteed, does it really matter what else they tack onto the bill? This is simply an “on-record” position paper for everyone in Congress, nothing more.

Well, Wooten is dead right again. I can understand putting in a few billion for Halliburton, which they didn’t do. We need to make sure Halliburton gets a good profit and besides they give lots of dough to Republicans. But don’t put in money for peanut farmers here in our own country. We need to outsource that stuff and put the farmers to work at McDonalds or Wendys. It’s the American way. Besides, farmers don’t drink lots of beer and they don’t keep me in business.

I hope everybody missed me this weekend. Me and my buddy Jim Earl was out catching snakes for the services down at the Church of Holiness. We caught a couple but Jim Earl let them go. Said if they bit Sister Dusty they would die from the bitterness in her soul, and besides they were good snakes that don’t desserve it. I had to agree.

I hope TFTT is out of rehab and doing good. One day he will say something nice about somebody and won’t that be a suprise. I guess Markus is back to truck driving today so we are safe from him till next Saturday. He must spit all over his screen when he writes.

Well, the Baptists cleaned out all the bars on my run so I got to get hopping. I sure got a full truck today.

Good morning, Jim and others.

The more I observe the President and the Congress, the more I am reminded of a group of seventh graders playing get’che, get’che, got’che.

As for pork, your wants and needs are pork; mine are, of course, necessities!

The solution is term limitations people!

Deprive the politicians of life-time tenure and the lobbyests, while they will still be around, will not have time to court the favors of the swine-keepers.

Two terms at max and then relegation to Cincinnatus status for life. Hell, even George Washington, as good as he was, left after eight years.

Jim is absolutely correct about how reprehensible it is for any of our Congressional representatives, Democratic or Republican, to sell votes for pork. It’s also just as reprehensible for us to cast our ballots for the person most likely to bring home the bacon or for the person with the most money — raised from contributors who benefited from such pork. Step one to changing such behavior in Congress is to change such behavior among ourselves. Step two is to enact clean elections via publicly funded campaigns.

With regard to Jim’s mentioning of the “anti-war fringe”, he is still struggling with the fact that it’s his views that make up the lunatic fringe — not those of us who realize that we blew it with Iraq.

Jim doesn’t care, it’s easier to accuse the Democrats of “moving to the left” than it is to point out that they’re representing the majority viewpoint. Sounds better too, kinda like saying someone “flip-flopped(tm).”

It’d probably shock many people on the forum to see that more people wouldn’t vote for Newt than wouldn’t vote for Hillary. It’s that well-known liberal bias of reality.

I am just curious why W the incompetent is still using emergency appropriations and contingency funds to pay for his little boondoggle in Iraq. You would think after four years, he would have put it in the budget and took care of it with everything else. Of course, by doing that, he would not have been able to brag about how much he lowered the budget deficit.

Hi Jim,

Why not just go to work for one of those right-wing consipiracy theory newsletters?

I appreciate your wanting to provide some kind of “conservative” perspective in the AJC, but there is no longer an anti-war fringe, and pork isn’t just for one party.

A sizeable (i.e., it’s not even close) majority of people in this country are not in favor of the war, and we all know that all politicans will grab as much pork as they can, when they can, regardless of party.

You’re on the fringe buddy. Keep blaming the Democrats for being just like the Republicans…that’s some keen insight for the good folks of Atlanta.

Oh, and Jim, can you read us the bed-time story about how the Libertarian think tank convinced us to build tunnels under Atlanta for traffic again? I love that one.

When the Captain saw today’s headline, a shiver ran down his spine. Was it possible that Mr Wooten had fallen prey to the siren song of pornography?

Yes, I know for many of you Godly Right Thinkers out there, this will come as something of a shock, but A Disgusting Use of Pork is one of the top selling triple XXX rated flesh flicks of the past five years. Alongside such other horrible titles as Stuffed Sirloins and Bacon in Hams, these meat-themed spectacles are as shocking as they are insulting to the legitimate meat-packers of our great nation.

Using the innovative scenario of a slaughterhouse that includes male and female employees, these films provide vivid evidence as to why women should not be allowed in the workplace, especially in a place that is responsible for delivering food to our families and children. Why, after viewing these movies, the Captain was unable to enjoy his usual mealtime fare and had to survive on salad for a week until the vivid mental images subsided. Fortunately, a viewing of My Cucumber, My Friend repulsed me from vegetables, and I was able to resume my meat consumption with gusto.

Now, before anyone gets any wrong ideas about the Captain’s viewing habits, he wants to clarify…I watch these movies as part of my duties with Brent Bozell’s media analysis team. Someone needs to keep track of what the Islamoliberal-orgiasts are doing to undermine our nation’s moral fiber, and it falls to the Captain to watch these films so you don;t have to.

Finally after all these long years of smugly preening itself on ultral liberal TV the liberal hag Kouric actually gets SOMETHING right!!!

As KKKatie astutely suggested, the scumbag Edwards is blatantly and despicably using his wife’s now sadly incurable cancer to try and boost his failing pathetic campaign. They are indenial about her condition and he is putting his snigger smirk snigger “work” first!! Though for a vile unctuous failed senator who after tellingly couldn’t even electorally win his home state is now glibly, oilily and shamelessly attempting to woo the cut and run impoverished peasant vote with shameless empty I jus’ luv po folks rhetoric connivingly puked up in his alBOre sized energy guzzling mansion paid for from the spoils of trial lawyer ambulance chasing such pathetic political pandering probably is “work”.

Edwards is an irrelevant corrupt putrid joke who will NEVER be president. If nothing else we conservatives can enjoy watching this slimy far left turd getting more and more desperate as his weak campaign splutters and slowly dies - thankfully just like the odious leftist in ultra moderate GOP clothing McCain’s is going to.

Edward’s terminally ill wife deserves better than this but clearly won’t get it!!

Dusty, the polls indicate that the public is somewhat out in front of the Congressional Democrats on the war issue. What you fail to understand is that the 70% of the American public is not a “fringe”. It is you and other conservatives who advocate endless war, so long as you don’t have to pay for it or fight in it, who now constitute a fringe. What you also don’t understand is that it doesn’t matter whether the Democratic Party is in tune with Georgia voters, because it is in tune with the American public as a whole. We are more interested in giving force to the wishes of the American public than we are in catering to the whining of the shiftless, uneducated, freeloading losers who made Georgia the squalid hole that it is.

It is telling that Republicans have more compassion for Elizabeth Edwards than most Dumbocrats. TFTT only echoes the generous spirit exhibited by Mr Limbaugh when the Great White Whale of Conservatism exhorted the Edwardses to turn away from the “religion of politics” and embrace the gooey goodness of real religion.

Why, let’s just look at the cynicism that drips from the liberal mind with a quote from Mrs Edwards herself:

*”You know, you really have two choices here. I mean, either you push forward with the things that you were doing yesterday or you start dying. That seems to be your only two choices. If I had given up everything that my life was about – first of all, I’d let cancer win before it needed to. You know, maybe eventually it will win. But I’d let it win before I needed to.

And I’d just basically start dying. I don’t want to do that. I want to live. And I want to do the work that I want next year to look like last year and… and the year after that and the year after that. And the only way to do that is to say I’m going to keep on with my life.”*

This is exactly the kind of cynical, hate-filled nonsense one expects from the radical left. They do not deserve the generous compassion of TFTT (quote: “Edward’s terminally ill wife deserves better than this but clearly won’t get it!!”), but we Right Thinkers are just better and more Godly people than the liberal vermin (to borrow another compassionate term from TFTT).

You don’t give a snap about the troops or the war. You try to make defeat desirable.

You’re right, Dusty.

All of us Democrats hate each and every troop and we hope great harm comes to each and every one of them. We long for their defeat.

We also strongly back the inadaquate care they are receiving at Walter Reed. As a matter of fact, we cheer their shoddy treatment. The more red tape they have to endure, the better we feel.

We also are on a campaign to be sure the humvees they drive while on patrol have the least protective steel as possible. We thought Bush did a good job early in the war by sending our troops into battle without the proper body armour. But then he had to screw it up after he got some pressure from some wayward democrats who insisted they have better protection.

And those same wayward Democrats (how can they possibly call themselves REAL Democrats) are also raising a stink about the rotation of the troops. Seems as though they are upset because some troops are having to go back over and over again. Or their having their tours extended. How can a REAL Democrat be upset over that? The longer they stay over there, the more chance they have at getting maimed for life, or better yet, killed!

Now Dusty, do you see how ridiculous your 11:12 post sounds?

Ex-auto parts CEO charged with fraud

David Stockman, former Reagan budget director, misled Collins & Aikman investors, officials say.

March 26 2007: 11:58 AM EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) — U.S. prosecutors on Monday charged David Stockman, a former chief executive of Collins & Aikman Corp, and other former executives of fraud.

Stockman, a former Reagan administration budget director, and the other ex-Collins & Aikman (up $0.00 to $0.04, Charts) executives are accused of misleading the company’s investors to hide its true financial condition, according to the indictment brought by federal prosecutors in Manhattan.

Facing pressures to keep up the company’s financial performance, Stockman along with others “orchestrated a scheme … to defraud C&A’s investors, banks and creditors by manipulating C&A’s reported revenues and earnings,” according to the indictment.

Stockman’s attorney was not immediately available for comment.
