Who deserves a statue at the state Capitol?

Statues at the Gold Dome

Among my modern-day political heroes, or in this case heroines, a special place is reserved for Margaret Thatcher.

The British Parliament last week unveiled a bronze statue of her in the member’s lobby of Parliament’s Palace of Westminster. She stands in the finest of company, facing the late Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and they were Britain’s two most important figures of the last century. Thatcher served as prime minister from 1979 to 1990.

The statue, the Associated Press reports, “shows her in a typical lively and swashbuckling posture, as though she is addressing the House of Commons, with her right arm outstretched.” (Thatcher’s words to George Bush, the father, after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990 are appropriate today to the son: “Don’t go wobbly on me, George.”)

Great leader, Mrs. Thatcher, who is now 81. If ever a likeness should be unveiled to the living, she’s a deserving honoree.

The honor prompts a question: In Georgia, who living or dead is deserving of a monument on the Capitol grounds? The House has passed a resolution suggesting former Governor and U.S. Sen. Zell Miller. While I’m a great fan of Zell as U.S. senator, I have a problem erecting a monument to a governor who invited Georgians to engage in behavior that could be harmful to them and their families, as gambling is. Every message from government should be to encourage citizens to behave responsibly and to act in their family’s best interest.

So who would warrant space on the Capitol grounds? Martin Luther King Jr., though he never served in public office, should be there. So, too, should U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. I’d put the late U.S. Rep. Carl Vinson , who served in Congress more than 50 years, there too. And I’d probably get rid of some, moving them to the state history museum that I hope will someday exist.

Is Zell deserving of granite or bronze? Is anybody in the last 100 years who’s not already there: Richard Russell, the Talmadges, Jimmy Carter and Ellis Arnall?

Race and the Obama candidacy

During one of last week’s discussions about the presidential candidates, the conversation turned to Barack Obama, the first-term U.S. senator from Illinois, whose candidacy causes most of the camp-with-the-Democrats media to gush with the adoration of “American Idol” groupies. If we don’t very promptly anoint him president, it’s a sign of America’s lingering racism.

On the Right, meanwhile, he’s seen as a definition-lacking celebrity. Commentator Ann Coulter, who can turn a phrase, refers to him as “Jonathan Livingston Obama” and opined that “his speeches are a run-on string of embarrassing, sophomoric Hallmark bromides.”

In the Thinking Right discussion, a contributor who posts as rarringt offered insightful commentary on Obama and race. Here’s the relevant part of rarringt’s post:

“As an African-American, I don’t sense a whole lot of concern in our community about Obama being ‘black enough.’ As you well know, it’s not a function of melanin content. ‘Blackness,’ for lack of a better word, is about being able to relate to various common threads in our culture, having an understanding of our accomplishments and challenges, and exemplifying a willingness to work to leave things better than the way we found them.

“It’s not meant to be some obtuse, mysterious thing. Obama, and the vast majority of other people of color, fit well into that description, thus taking the question (as far as we are concerned) off the table.

“Besides, as a practical matter Obama’s not a stupid man, and won’t fall into that same ‘where do his real priorities lie’ trap WASPs tried to set for a Catholic JFK.

“The real question, of course, is how white America feels about his ethnicity, and to what extent that will affect the choices of moderate America. I think they’ll like what they see. The dems have a very strong field this election, and there’s a sense of, given current affairs, this election is the most critical in the last 3 or 4 presidential cycles.”

Obama has been careful not to make his success or failure a referendum on race in America and in politics. Is it?

According to a Gallup poll conducted last month, 43 percent of Americans rate the economy as good to excellent, while 57 percent view economic conditions as fair to poor.

I don’t know how much more Cynthia can slant this, never mind that fair to poor is not “bad” to begin with, but keep in mind that 50% of Americans, which is how many pinkos we have, bitc-h about everything, good or bad.

57% fair to poor is pretty much saying that the economy is gangbusters, which would be the true interpretation.

But let’s play along with the fantasy of the Atlanta Constipation’s editorial board grand pooh bah and say that the economy really does suck and that people stand all day in the unemployment and soup lines.

What is the quickest way to get ahead in today’s society?

Rob a bank?

Rap Star?

No, no, it’s education.

And if you were to guess at which ideological group is most responsible for educating the children of America, keeping in mind that universities and colleges are included, would you choose the pinkos or the Cons?

You’re right! Our education system is crawling with liberals.

And what has happened to the cost of that education system over the last few years?

Part time college professors and their assistants making a quarter of a million dollars a year, for putting in what, maybe 4 months a year?

How about Ted Kennedy designing the legislation for “No Child Left Unmolested, er, Behind,” anybody want to go to bat over the success of that program?

How do you like getting played for the fool by this Queen Pinko, again?

These liberals can trash our education system, turning out a bunch of helpless, half wit Politically Correct idiots that can barely speak English, and then she harangues the Republicans for not giving them a job.

Like there’s some need in the workplace for a condom installer.

And she and her beloved league of pinkos charges you more and more every year to turn your kid into an ignorant, unemployable dolt, who thinks he should marry another man.

They do the Carbon Emissions Offset? What is that — a ’60s dance craze? No, it’s way hotter. I mean, cooler. All the movie stars are doing it. In fact, this year’s Oscar goodie-bag that all the nominees get included a year’s worth of carbon offsets. Totally free. So even the stars’ offsets are offset. No wonder that, when they’re off the set, they all do the offset. Look at Leonardo DiCaprio: He’s loaded with ‘em, and the chicks think he’s totally eco-cool. Tall and tan and young and lovely, the boy with carbon offsets goes walking and when he passes each one he passes goes aaaiiieeeeeeeee!

I regretfully must inform everybody that I will not be able to post again for a while. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to, it’s just that right now I have my nurse typing in these comments for me and this arrangement is rather tedious.

To be short, I went to my favorite pub last night to get a few pints of stout in, but the place was boarded up with a sign stating that it was closed due to health violations. Apparently one of the gay male dancer had become “involved” with the cook and some bodily fluids may have been released into the servings.

So I ventured in search of something new and came across a rather large establishment called Cowboys up in Kennesaw. I was quite drunk at this time so I thought nothing of the place, I just went inside sat down and ordered a drink.

I must have forgotten where I was at because I started running my mouth about rednekkks and hillbilly’s, you know, my normal way of talking down on you trash people. I think my big mistake was calling one of the women a rednekkk rape baitress.

I don’t remember much after that, some very nice looking boots that kept coming down on my head and lots of leather wear on the gentlemen that punched me in the mouth several hundred times.

Anyway, the hospital is a nice place, thankfully we don’t have universal health care yet so I was able to get admitted right away.

But seeing how my jaw is wired shut and I’m in traction, don’t expect to be hearing much from me in the near future.

Well, it was the missus birthday and she wanted to go to a real nice restaurant. So last night I took her to Golden Corral and she danged near cleaned out the steak and potatos. I would say she put down at least 10 lbs. and we got our moneys worth.

This morning Sister Dusty showed up at the Church of Holiness and bragged about how she was going to law school so she could make 400 bucks per hour. She will be able to run for office then seeing as how the lawyers is the only one that can figure out all the loopholes that allows them to steal the state blind and not get arrested.

I hate libruls so much I hope getalife and that crazy Harold is both out of booze today. Me, I just go out to my beer truck and kinda buy me another case on Sunday. Bunch of libruls, they come down here and try to ruin our good Southren way of life by changing the booze law. I don’t care what most people in Georgia say, we don’t hold with buying booze on Sunday and we got Sonny and Casey to make sure it don’t happen. The majority is fine, long as they go along with what us rednecks want. But if they don’t we got ways of making sure the majority don’t get their way.

Looks like Those People running Atlanta wound up killing a bunch of kids because they cant mark a exit right. We ain’t had a decent mayor there ever since Those People took over, and even the last White mayor Sam Massel was no great shakes because he was a librul. Now wanting to pass a sales tax so they can ride fancy street cars while the rest of us run over potholes big enough to swallow my beer truck. It won’t happen.

I see everbody is stealing everbody elses ID today. Well, if they try to steal mine it would be hard because I think like about 90 percent of the GA population and this is a redneck state. Glad to hear that phony librul redneck finally got beat up in that redneck bar. Serves him right. Bunch of libruls. Atlanta may be a city too busy to hate but I ain’t.

I guess Wooten will be back for his last month before they fire him at the AJC. You know the libruls won’t let a good conservative stay. We will then have to hear Cynthia Tucker spew her librul line all the time. Bunch of libruls.

So now the liberals would like us all to believe the conditions at Walter Reed occurred in the last 8 years. Did anyone look at the pictures? That is years and years of neglect you see. Do not lay all the blame on the administration or the Republican Congress.

Democrats have been in Washington and did nothing and showed no interest until they smelled blood in the water. Liberals scream, cry, b*** and moan then promise to act but eventually do nothing.

How is that first 100 day agenda coming? How about the “integrity back to Congress” plan? Oh, I remember now we have “Abscam” Murtha and “Icebox” William Jefferson in leadership positions for the party of integrity.
