Hi Jim, The gerrymandering of congressional districts to provide for racially proportional representation in Congress has made crossover primary voting mandatory to insure that all the constituents in a district have adequate representation. I don’t live in District Four, but if I did, realizing that in the election my conservative Republican vote would have little or no meaning, I would want to be able to choose in the primary the Democratic candidate that represented the lesser of two (or three) evils for me. The candidates, knowing this, would have to vow to represent all of the constituents rather than just those they feel are in their pockets.

I live in Newt Ginrich’s old district. I voted for the first time in my life in ‘04. So I had to register for the first time in my life. (jury duty challenged).

When I got in line to vote on that cool november day, had to wait for 45 minutes. I almost gave up 23 times, but some fat lady behind me kept staring me down, like she would really let me have it if I didn’t do my patriotic duty. (sorry, dear)

I finally got to the volunteer who asked me my name, and then rifled through the index cards to find me….and couldn’t. So she huddled with a supervisor who kept looking at me during their discussion. (sizing up a liberal democrat, no doubt)

Finally, she got a form and filled it out with my orally-recited data, and I moved on to the next volunteer who gave me my ballot plug-in.

Strangely, he fumbled with it. He had some hand-held thingie that he used to activate my ballot plug-in, but it didn’t work right. So he grabbed my plug-in, and ducked below the desk and fiddled with the activator, maybe replacing a battery or some other such insert, and then reappeared and completed the activation and handed me my ballot plug-in.

I stood there, expressionless, and looked deeply into his eyes. The tension in the air was the fallout from all the Diebold fraud hysteria. He squirmed at first, but then his countenance grew impatient and threatening. He actually turned and face-signaled a security guy standing behind him near the door, who immediately caught my eye with an urgent look.

I slowly leaned toward the ballot boxes and turned and walked the ten feet to vote. I used to be a mime, so my “voter walking against the facsist wind, trapped in a republican box” act really irked them.

I looked back at those two clowns ten times.

What did they do? How did they know I was a democrat, except that I was a new register, who was not in the index file, and who needed a special form.

This district is all republican all the time. They support the war so much that the yellow ribbons around the trees are from dog territorial disputes. Now THAT’S republican.

Very suspicious. Very, VERY suspicious.

Cynthia McKinney, I would like to volunteer to go with you to Cobb County and confront those volunteers who obviously neutered my ballot with all the fumbling and rifling and mugging. I promise to protect you from all the dogs, including the ones on leashes.

Mr. Wooten, I could not agree with you more. Middle class blacks have moved beyond the “Thems that got it don’t deserve your vote” argument put forth by Cynthia. How has she been able to accomplish this injustice for so long? She made sure that her constituents never got it.

McKinney has thrived on her uselessness. Middle class blacks are smarter than her. But still she persists in her ignorance & exploitation. That’s indication enough that she’s stuck on stupid. Now it’s the responsibility of middle class blacks to save the remaining followers of the McKinney types in politics from the intellectual exploitation. I wish them every success.

Jim; I live in Georgia but not the 4th District. McKinney served noone and nothing. As a state, we’re all the better for her defeat.

She, Al, Jessee and all the other blame the White Man crowd, have done more to ruin the lives of their fellow blacks than the white man could ever have.

Cynthia Tucker, Al Sharpton and Jessee Jackson are getting rich off the backs of Blacks. Sad!

Also, she and Bookman are continuing to run the AJC in the ground. As they continue to publish their hate for American, the circulation continues to drop! In a way, I am glad that less and less people are reading the AJC. I haven’t bought an issue in over 2 years!

That was a nice bedtime story Political Snakeskin. Yeah we know, electronic voting machines are why Republicans win every time. You call others “clowns” and you claim you used to be a mime? Boy, talk about the jackal calling the jackass stubborn. Here’s an idea PF: if you don’t like being around so many “warmonger” Republicans, why don’t you move to Decatur or somewhere else ITP? That way you can drive around with your “No W” sticker and that cute little rainbow sticker in the middle of your back window with pride.

Cynthis McKinney’s blaming of her loss on Republicans crossing over is laughable, but to be expected. If memory serves me correctly, it was the Democrats who initially drew up the idea of intra-political voting to keep out strong Republican candidates. When it backfires on them of course, they pitch a fit. Come to think of it, I can’t ever remember a time when liberal democrats DIDN’T pitch a fit over something. I’d hate to be that miserable. Sheesh. Of course Muhammadette McKinney pitches a fit over everything these days. When someone confronts her because they don’t recognize her, she flails those arms like Aunt Esther. Allah willing you’ll be out of the way of those things.

In any event, it’s heartwarming to know that the successful, independent, and self-prided black community is beginning to rise up and break the chains of economic slavery brought on by the plantation of liberal democrat policies.

As a 15-year resident of Atlanta who has lived in just about every part of the metro area imaginable, I have witnessed a lot of changes. One of these changes has seen the black middle and upper class move out into the suburbs buying bigger and bigger homes and nicer cars. They are experiencing the REAL American dream and not sitting back waiting on Jesse’s reparations check. Of course, there are jealous ones out there who are deficient in the self-pride and indepedence departments. That ilk just sits back poormouthing these people, calling them “sellouts” and saying assinine things like “well they are working twice as hard as the white man to get where they are.” That’s a liberal democrat crock. I’ve seen black success in “whitie world” up close and VERY personal. Amazing what one can accomplish when they ignore things like “studying in school is acting white” or “working hard is acting white.”

There will always be a need for politicians, clergy, whistleblowers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, and women and men of all professions (even journalists with op/ed columns) to speak “truth to power.” Power still corrupts (look at the Republicans these days. Small government, anyone? I didn’t think so).

McKinney, however, stopped speaking “truth to power” a long time ago and started speaking “crazy nutcase to power.” That’s ineffective, and that’s why I voted against her.

They take electronic voting machines home before the elections. You can buy the electronic components on EBay. You can easily open the machines and they can be hacked to change the results. There is no paper trail.

Well said JHT. I stopped subscribing to the AJC soon after Election 2000. Somebody help me out here if I’m wrong. I remember back in the good old days of less traffic and sprawl, that we had two papers: the Atlanta Journal, which was left of center and issued in the AM, and the Atlanta Constitution, which was right of center and issued in the PM. Once the two converged, the paper remained left of center. I was able to tolerate it because I could get other viewpoints from the then-booming internet.

Then something happened to the AJC after the Election of 2000 and the rabid anti-Republican tone that paper has, from the @Issue section to the front page which blares New York Slimes reprint. I experimented for a while in keeping up with how many Republican-bashing things they printed in all sections vs. anti-Democrat. It was something like 75% anti-Republilcan, and 25% anti-Democrat.

But like the internet boom initially, the blogs are now turning into the latest media outlet. The liberal media hates that of course. Why not since the latest casualties of leftist media lies and slander like CBS’s forged Bush documents and Reutuer’s doctored Lebanon photos. The days of Americans being spoon fed three TV channels of media outlet liberal garbage without countering opinions are over, thank God.

The problem is not the trash voting machines - it’s the trash that votes. Just as a for instance, Georgia has the highest high school dropout rate in the nation.

The votes are accurately counted. Georgia is proof that a democracy is only as good as the people that vote… garbage in, garbage out.

Ever wonder why the AJC is such a trash paper - something so slimy Murdoch wouldn’t even touch? Look at the potential audience - you’re writing a newspaper for Georgians, for southerners - people that have a congenital inability to learn and read, and a cultural hatred toward education and learning. 40% of the 18 year-olds in the state couldn’t graduate from GEORGIA high school.

It’s not so much that these yahoos don’t read, it’s more that they can’t. Look at how successful hate radio is here. All the big words in the paper make their little heads hurt, so they listen to lynch mob radio.

Oh, I almost forgot. Speaking of the rising middle and upper-class black folks, there was a great Peanuts comic on Thursday, July 27. I believe the original year was 1959 for this, but it’s hard to read in such small print. It could be 1969 originally. This is a CLASSIC example of the thinking of liberal democrats and how they perceive people who work harder or are more successful than they are (they usually goes hand in hand).

Amusingly enough unhinged foreskin is still busy drooling about pretty much nothing in its increasingly bewildered state. Admitting its only voted since 04 kind of perfectly sums up this sad desperately unfunny weirdo. And it shows the level of its involvment with and committment to the political process very nicely. Perhaps unhinged foreskin is one of the lazier or indifferent blacks that apparently were unable to process simple enough voting instructions before the advent of electronic voting alluded to above. Certainly judging from its stream of witless posts that would hardly be surprising. The only “fascist wind” here seems to come from its constant cyber flatulence. As a complete stranger (and new immigrant) to the voting process I had no problems “learning” to vote.

Clearly in the past there were many completely unthinking blacks gleefully voting for the racist McKinney. Happily much cleverer, more astute, more educated black folks have now replaced the nastiest and dimmest anti-semite in congress.

Watching McKinney blame everyone but itself for its richly deserved defeat is priceless - the gift that keeps giving. The rules of the game are exactly the same for every politico in GA. Come January McKinney will hopefully gracelessly fade into the shrill shrinking afrocentric anti-white background of black politics. And will delight folks of all races by continuing to highlight its utter irrelevance on all issues, thereby completely trashing its already seemingly pretty forlorn hopes of a second comeback.

As black folks increasingly reject the corrosive snake oil racial spoils agenda they will doubtless reap the benefits that most other folks do everday and which at the very least for a generation or so now have always been there for any one in the black community who decided to avail themselves of such opportunity.

I have three black neighbors who vote the conservative ticket nationally and that speaks well of their intelligence. I’m looking forward to when their numbers increase.

I have a black neighbor who is a staunch Republican. Politics is all he talks about. He refuses to vote for any candidate who is a Democrat. I’ve pointed out to him that when all you’ve got running on the local level are Democrats, you still need to vote. “It’s the lesser of two evils argument,” I told him.

His response was that he would never vote for the evil within the Democratic Party under any circumstances. “You’re a man of principle I told him but your decision not to vote could leave our county with a crappy Democrat.” His response “There’s no other kind of Democrat. They’re all crappy.” The guy makes me laugh about politics which is a rarity these days.

I’ll work on him because I know he’s smart, just stubborn.

Good morning, all.

First comments to Markus, since he and I generally share ideology. You still miss something by not subscribing to the papers. I receive the print versions of WSJ, AJC, and our local Gwinnett paper. I read the WSJ cover to cover - even though the news side of the paper is as leftist as the AJC - simply because it remains a comparatively honest source of information. I subscribe to the Gwinnett paper simply because I like to encourage local enterprises, and they consciously try to steer a middle course politically. As to AJC, I understand your disenchantment with the editorial side of the paper, the graceful Mr. Wooten notwithstanding. But there is so much more to the paper - an interesting and readable sports section, several good comics, entertaining coverage of the arts. Admittedly all of that is available free online; but if you never pay, free stuff goes away.

I wanted to address PF’s nutty 8:30 story and Getalife’s paranoid 9:16 post, but GHT’s rational 9:24 post preempted my clever explanation - I’ll save it for another day.

On the subject, I once had the privilege of working as counsel for a minority enterprise. My observations of the character of the people there mirrored Jim’s essay, and the rejection of a loon like Ms. McKinney is wholly unsurprising to me. I believe my co-workers at that business craved respect commensurate with their efforts and education; I do not doubt that they found the congresswoman’s demeanor inconsistent with their desires.

Actually I buy the AJC Sunday paper, and have read everything by Monday evening. I used to subscribe to the WSJ, but I just got sick and tired of having paper after paper magazine after magazine clutter my house and the recycle container. I have laptops and PCs out the wazoo, and every TV has internet access. I pay-subscribe to a lot of online media like the WSJ for $80/yr.. that’s a lot cheaper than $100 annually for clutter. Speaking of the WSJ, a while back there was a story done on media bias, and the WSJ came in left of center. Liberals couldn’t believe it.. tells you how much they read it.

As long as internet advertisers pay the bux, free online stuff will not go away.

It is a constant barrage of snide complaints about our elected president, our voting system, our country, our protections, with obnoxious name-calling of anyone who disagrees with them. It is an organized effort to discredit the president and conservatives, not by votes but innuendo. Democrats don’t seem to notice that they are taking the country down with their efforts.

TFTT, I have a non-joke theory on Susan. All that follows is conjecture. Susan is an attorney. She is one of those attorney’s who hides evidence - such as her professional creditials - until there is an opportunity to spring a game of “Gotcha.” Nothing evil about that, that is just the way some guys do business. Her posts suggest a trained mind, skilled as cross-examination. I sincerely suspect she has a great sense of humor (although nothing she has posted ever suggested that), just from the way she writes.

the AJC - with perhaps the exception of the obvious likes of the Detroit paper is the biggest, or at least one of the biggest “black”, and decidedly multi cultural newspapers in the US. Which explains why its circulation is in free fall.

WSB TV seems to be a “black” station too at least in terms of its news coverage.

Thanks for the welcome jbmlaw. I just dropped in for a short post. I agree with you. There are reasonable leftists. They’re the ones who didn’t vote for McKinney.

I visit only a smattering of blogsites. I enjoy reading political discussions. I visit a very insightful blog where questions can be posed and individuals will post answers to questions. The reason I prefer it is because responses never, and I do mean never refer to Bush, Democrats or Republicans. It simply offers insightful views on possible solutions to today’s complex problems.

GHT seems to be filled with a reflux of hatred. In my exposure to the sites I visit, that hatred seems to flow freely from the left and a little less from the right. I’m just guessing that you may be on the left, so I’m sorry if that offends you.

Maybe I’ll drop back by during the week.

TFTT, one thing I really like about the WSJ is the editorial page. They have a Reaganesque-Libertarian approach to the world - Robert Bartlett was probably a significant influence in my political maturation. WSJ editorial pages never had a good thing to say about the Argentine attack; that war conclusively proved Maggie’s character to US conservatives, and is why she remains revered today.

Also, if you do not read the free opinion journal “Best of the Web” every day, you are missing out. Taranto has a sense of humor even better than yours (which is about as high praise as I can offer.)

Dusty, Americans with good leadership can get through difficult situations. The Yugoslavia war was flawless. Republican leadership if you remember were saying a bunch of horrible things about that war only one month into it. “No exit srategey,” “too much money” “can’t just bomb your enemy to death”, and much more, Lott and Delay had a lot to say.

But America shined bright. We ignored them! Not a single death, and our democracy was intact! Free speech and all! Leadership! In fact even after those comments by Delay and Lott, we allowed them to stay in power. (They self-destructed on other issues)

jmb … I do sometimes read the WSJ , although not everyday. I read the (UK) Telegraph and Times online everyday. For overseas news coverage they’re unbeatable. Even Zirqawi read the Telegraph before he sadly very suddenly died. No registration needed for most of these two papers. I usually read WSJ stories linked on Drudge. John Fund is the one I usually look for - Peggy Noonan often gets a bit pompous and is quite patronising on camera, rather like Paula Zahn. I’ll look for Taranto in future … cheers again for the kind words.

I am a typical conservative in that I have struggled all my life with sexual identity issues. The only way my abusive father showed affection toward me was by beating me black and blue and then raping me anally and then crying about it afterward saying I’m sorry I’m sorry. He’d buy me a comic book or a baseball glove and tell me not to tell my mother, and we’d have some quality father-son time. I’m sure most of you cons can relate, it does a number on you. Like most of you I experimented over the years - men, teenage boys, animals (hard to do in NY and San Francissy - I’m a little jealous of you country folk), etc.

But let me tell you though, heterosexuality is the way to go, at least publicly.

What about Andrew Youngs recent outburst? It will be interesting to see what the repercussions of his racist remarks will be. Of course there will be the standard insincere apologies, but let’s look deeper. Young states, “I think they’ve ripped off our communities enough. First it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now it’s Arabs; very few black people own these stores.” First of all it is sad that very few black people own stores in their own neighborhoods. I wonder how immigrants who barely speak our language, manage in a few years to open these “Mom and Pop” stores? Oh, I know, Hard work and determination. Because “Mom and Pop” work together. Because “Mom and Pop” are not content to sit around cashing welfare checks and having countless fatherless children. The reason many of these marginalized groups have served the black community is because that was where the opportunity was and because other groups considered these areas to be too dangerous to run a business in. The Black community is lucky any business owner would risk his investment [ and life ] locating there. Andrew Young should be ashamed and should stop blaming other groups for the plight of Black Americans

This individual that we’ve been dealing with for a while now off and on is probably using some IP spoofing software if different IP addresses are showing up constantly. Myself and at least one other regular here recognizes this pattern from message boards of many years ago.

This individual carries on conversations with him/herself when the blogs are slow, like apparently what happened yesterday afternoon.

This individual will pose as a conservative and say nasty hateful things in an attempt to throw conservatives into a negative light.

This individual will also post hate-filled vitriol in an attempt to stir up anger from conservatives. Fortunately for the most part, nobody has bit.

We are dealing with someone who is emotionally unstable, someone who is obsessed with the thought that conservatives are out there saying anything negative about the left, and is just determined to drag this board down to nothing but insults in the hopes that it will be taken down. This individual is at war with conservatives and is doing everything to shut down the voice of conservatives, including blogs.

This is in no way an inflammatory post against this individual meant to start something. My recommendation for everyone here is to just completely ignore this multiple-ID’d person, as hard as it is. By now hopefully most have learned to recognize the pattern of this individual. After all the ID stealing lately, there was a reason I said a week or so ago to “get to know your fellow blogger.” I knew this latest fiasco was coming. I’ve seen it before.

The haggish deranged obsessive Bush hater Sheehan is really starting to lose it. Now she and her unkempt rabble are literally stalking American heroes like Karl Rove.

From Austin Texas … 20/8/06 One woman was arrested during a scuffle with police after Sheehan and the anti-war demonstrators rushed toward the closed doors and kept chanting loudly after the guests went into the dinner.

Hopefully they’ll be back to their much ignored utterly irrelvant food fast which virtually no one in real America gives a flying toss about!!

Rove was speaking at an Associated Republicans of Texas dinner, where ticket prices started at $200 per person and raised an estimated $250,000. He was not in the Renaissance Austin Hotel lobby during the reception.

“I want him arrested. He planned the war that killed my son,” Sheehan, referring to Rove, told the officers guarding the door.

The funniest moment however occured as one of the unkempt screeching peacenick rabble was thrown out: “Pat, did you get her check before she left?” Rove quipped to the GOP group’s executive director, Pat Robbins, as the crowd of 300 laughed, the newspaper reported.

“I don’t question the patriotism of our critics. Many are hardworking public servants who are doing the best they can. Some of them are people looking for a free meal,” Rove said, drawing more laughs.

If nothing else this pathetic incident proves that Rove has an excellent sense of humour.

TFTT is a common troll type found on every single chat room I’ve ever visited. Every post is a hack of someone else’s post, or a link to something. Not one original thought, you do not have to read another word from TFTT, you already know exactly what he’s going to blog: Some threat, some bitter acrimony about nothing, some bragging about how he manipulated someone and knew they’d fall for it cause he’s some sort of superior blogger and then throw in some party line, and voila: timefortheturd.

Good morning all. A matter not exactly on topic, but I am surprised that nobody mentions the interesting candidacy of Harold Ford, Jr. in adjacent Tennessee. (Disclaimer, I was subpoenaed as a fact-witness in his father’s criminal trial 15 years ago. I am not conscious of any animus, but I disclose to allow the reader to judge.)

Ford Jr. is not nearly as leftist as the rest of his family; those of you who use a left-right political scale would find him somewhere around Lieberman, and mod-con on mostly the same issues. I begin to believe the Democrats could be saved by black moderates - people who disassociate from the moonbats, and otherwise present the black middle-class image Jim covers in his essay.

Question for the leftists: how do you view Harold Jr, if you view him at all?

I’ve watched Harold Ford, Jr. in interviews and have to say, I was impressed with how he presented himself and avoided implementing the usual partisan attacks.

His voting record on two issues concerned me. He opposed reauthorization of The Patriot Act. That, in my opinion, is irresponsible in lite of the threat we now face.

He also opposed the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court stating that Alito supported the expansion of executive authority and government intrusion at the expense of personal freedoms. I’ve seen no evidence of intrusion and that argument has yet to be proven, but I guess we’ll soon find out. I’m assuming the recent ruling on the wiretapping issue will go before the Supreme court.

Liberal judges have controlled the Supreme Court rulings for too long. I’m pleased that a balance has finally been established through recent appointments.

I’ll end my viewpoint on a positive note in favor of Ford.

Ford drew criticism last year for helping pass the bankruptcy bill, which I was in favor of. Promoting individual responsibility is a plus.

He supports extending the tax cuts on dividends & capital gains. Put that one in the positive column because it benefits citizens who invest, while improving the overall economy through investments.

His stance on the illegal immigration issue is a tough one. I’m in favor of that as well.

I like his views on domestic policy, but I’m uncomfortable right now with his views on foreign policy. There are a couple of other issues that he has voted on. I’m flexible on those issues, so no need to address them.

All that being said, the fact that Maxine Waters who I cannot tolerate, had this to say about Ford:

“There will be those black elected officials who decide they need to be more conservative so they can attract more white voters who happen to be more conservative, and they are willing to do whatever it takes. It’s going to place them in terrible conflict and they are going to have to figure out how to deal with that at some point.”

If Maxine thinks Ford gets in the way of the conflict her liberalism promotes, I’ve gotta like the guy. He’s moderate in my opinion. Something the Democrats need. Problem is, there aren’t enough like him in their party.

The mindless war on Iraq, which is not even remotely conscrued as a “war on terror” has only resulted in empowering IRAN. We’ve spent half a trillion dollars, thousands of US troop lives, with many thousands more maimed for life, and lost the respect of the entire world to hand Iraq to Iraan like a wonderful Christmas present.

Now, hopefully you don’t need any further illumination of what I just said. Debate, if you choose to call it that, the wonderful accomplishments of the attack on Iraq and tell men how isolating America has served any sane purpose.

But across the spectrum of the African-American diaspora the political and social goals are pretty much the same: For every black person to be represented and treated fairly. That is true for the black liberal and the black conservative.

Take Cynthia McKinney, for instance. I voted for Hank Johnson. I do not like or agree with many stances that Cynthia took while in office. But I respect Cynthia. And many black people respect her because she was the first African-American female to go to Congress from Georgia. That means she fought and won over considerable odds.

The problem, to me, is not conservatism or liberalism. There have been conservatives and liberals in the black community for as long as their has been lower, middle, and higher incomes in the black community.

But the biggest problems are within the Democratic and Republican parties. Most black conservatives and moderates are not members of either party.

Perhaps we as moderates can hook up with the black conservatives and start our own party. In other words, perhaps we need a party that represents the moderates of America, because it certainly looks like neither party is interested in our vote.

Having been weaned on conservative Northern sheets, such as those owned by the Quayles, I find AJC refreshing.

Why do they even read it and blog here if they are so upset? I certainly left behind the rightist ragsheets without ado and will greatfully not look back. They must love to hate.

You people that still support this administration and/or iraq war are so unbelievably ignorant. The saddest thing about your ignorance is that you feel the people running the show have some sort of loyalty to you. THEY DON’T GIVE A F*** ABOUT YOU!! If you notice, the only people benefitting in any way from this war are the corporations with the contracts (no-bid, for the most part). Halliburton, Carlyle, Exxon, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, etc. are making BBBillions of free dollars from this (still-undeclared) war. The government doesn’t make any money from these corporations because they are in the process of getting permanent tax cuts, meaning they pay no taxes. Taxes stil have to be paid, so the people have to take up the slack. Instead of wasting your time bickering from the safety of your home online, why don’t you dumb-f*** do some research and find out who you’re really defending—IT AIN’T YOU..
